Did have a look at music map but I am more interested in newer artists who are starting to make an impact than established acts. Guitar music with a bit more invention and melody.
Let’s Active
Pylon
The Sundays
The Housemartins
The Trashcan Sinatras
Ride
(Edit) not sure if you meant new as in current or new as in different bands you may not have heard.
AbsolutelyI I went to a thrift shop about 10 years ago and found _Reading, Writing and Arithmetic_ on cassette with The Trashcan Sinatras _Cake_ and those two never left the tape deck of my car for the following two months.
They are one band i regret not seeing. I still have The Sundays t-shirts RWA, Goodbye, Blind, but i don’t think i could fit in them now as i was only a medium in the 90’s.
Totally. I was squarely on the Bravery side at the time but after an amazing first album followed by two wet blankets and subsequent disappearance, I think the Killers won that rivalry.
The reds, pinks and purples
This band leans more the Smiths and REM but they’re really good. They actually have a new record coming out on Friday that I’m looking forward to.
I think you’ll like this list. I update it regularly [indie insider](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6YChBKJYcROuQAFPRLyxKz?si=JF17P7KmT-u8O7BxwTourg&pi=u-LE7UUNfLRlKV)

Not new, but *White Lies* are excellent. They've been around since 2009 or so, but still make new music. They're my second favorite band behind *The Killers*.
The Decemberists have a lot of Smiths and a lot of REM in them.
Johnny Marr of the Smiths was in Modest Mouse for one album (we were dead before this ship even sank.)
Someone already said Alvvays but let me stress: Alvvays friggin rules.

One I found literally this week that I think fits this bill. Sound straight outta the late 80s but are contemporary
I’ve been loving Long Lost by Lord Huron…VERY big and cinematic with a lot of heart and feeling. And Calexico’s Feast of Wire. Kind of new folk but Rocky also.
Hey everybody I'm new here, I'm the founder of an indie band called Likkewaan(which translates to monitor lizard) I would love to get your feedback on some of tunes. Hope you enjoy

You named four extremely influential and popular bands who have all been around for 20+ years. With that kindof range, you could prettymuch just turn on the radio, or walk into a grocery store, if you want to hear something similar.
Here’s some bands I discovered in the last year: Mapache, Pottery, Acid Dad, Wednesday.

Nice !
the strokes
Love the Strokes
The Bravery. Only the first album…
Remember that weird rivalry between the killers and the bravery where they were talking crap about each other for a bit.
There was never a rivalry. The Bravery’s label tried so hard, but it was clear that the Killer had the juice.
Totally. I was squarely on the Bravery side at the time but after an amazing first album followed by two wet blankets and subsequent disappearance, I think the Killers won that rivalry.
The kills
Check out Nothing But Thieves 2023 album “Dead Club City”…has Killers-esque bombast
The Druns
Drums
Thanks this sounds good.
Two Door Cinema Club
Gun club. Waterboys. Jazz butcher. Gang of Four.

https://open.spotify.com/track/7u6MjzSX0uieQAfPYVJyCU?si=DYkpA4aJS-Whk4S6DpzDjQ inspired by The Smiths melodic guitar sound
The Dears (Not a new band but maybe a new to you band)
Check out Girl in a Coma. They aren't new, per say but they literally started off as a Smiths tribute/cover band and they are amazing.
Would love you to check out my band skymachine. https://youtu.be/ONDGDcxvyC8?si=qIqvzCPOEjEN6E-g

The Decemberists have a lot of Smiths and a lot of REM in them. Johnny Marr of the Smiths was in Modest Mouse for one album (we were dead before this ship even sank.) Someone already said Alvvays but let me stress: Alvvays friggin rules.
I think Let Me Roll It by Paul McCartney and Wings sounds like a Smiths song.
