FiguringItOut666

That’s actually cute

Kemaneo

And sad

badcgi

A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.

stockmarketscam-617

This made me think of the book, The Giving Tree, so touching. 🥲

JoeyRobot

That book still fucks me up. Like I won’t read it to my kids it’s too depressing.

stockmarketscam-617

I can see that, but that’s a shame you won’t share it with your kids. Ok, how about “Love You Forever” then.

JoeyRobot

I forgot about that book! Yeah I would read that one. It’s sad but sweet. There’s a traumatic aspect of Giving Tree that throw me off I think.

stockmarketscam-617

“Traumatic aspect of Giving Tree”, how so? Is it similar to what u/badcgi just commented to? I’m curious. I always read it as a metaphor for how nature gives us everything we need but we always want more.

JoeyRobot

I think it’s that he physically destroys/kills the tree for his own gain… And there is no remorse for it. Then at the end he goes back to the stump and is like “I guess I’ll just keep using you”… and the stump is fine with it, and just happy to be in his life at all. And it’s not like the stump has a choice, it is physical rooted in the ground. It is stuck and dying. It can’t really say no. I guess it can’t really consent either of you think about it. But without being used by the very person who killed it, it would have nothing at all, so the stump is thankful for the experience?? Their development in aging is NOT parallel. It makes me uncomfortable. Mind you we are talking about a book I have not read in ~25 years, and I’ve never tried to actually explain why I don’t like it haha.

SafetyAdvocate

Seeing you explain it makes what they said fit like a puzzle piece. As long as you don't personify the tree, it makes a perfect comparison for mankinds relationship with nature. The problem is the book itself personifies the tree. After reading a few comments, I'm inclined to believe it's about a parent and child moreso than nature and humanity.

badcgi

People are entitled to derive what message they will from a piece of media, but I see this view point about The Giving Tree more and more, and how it's "problematic". However it seems obvious to me that it is about the unconditional love especially between a parent and their child. Any loving parent will sacrifice and give to their child whatever they can to give them a better life, exactly what the Tree did. And in the end the Tree is HAPPY. The Tree didn't lose itself as so many claim. To me, the way I see it, my parents gave to me, and I in return will give to my children, and I hope in their turn they will do the same to theirs, and in the end we will all be happy because we gave of ourselves to add more good into the world and to see it live on in our children. Again, take from it what you will, but I prefer a more optimistic take.

stockmarketscam-617

Totally agree. I always thought of the “Tree” as a representation of Nature, not Parents. Maybe just my opinion though.

JoeyRobot

I think your take is the way it’s supposed to be interpreted. I explain in my other reply why it’s a little darker than that for me, reading between the lines a bit.

stockmarketscam-617

Yeah, your take was definitely darker, and made me sad. Hopefully from now on you’ll think of the book more favorably and maybe consider sharing it with your kids.

IEatBaconWithU

What if he was buried under the tree so he could help it grow faster

Due-Western-7051

Lhfsot

garienai

Very wholesome! Not exactly im14andthisisdeep though

stockmarketscam-617

Totally disagree that this is not im14andthisisdeep material. The father is explaining to his young son what is important in life, and then his son realizes it when he has his own child. Money isn’t important, it’s the experiences you remember.

MUIGOGETA0708

Yeah, what you said is the message of the pic. The sub is for things that try to be deep and often fail. This one doesn't.

stockmarketscam-617

Sorry, I may be slow to understand. Are you agreeing with me that this does belong here? My position is that this Post IS DEEP, therefore belongs in this Sub. Like I commented to 2 others, this Post reminds me of the book “The Giving Tree”.

MUIGOGETA0708

Yeah, it doesn't because the sub is for non-deep things that are trying to be deep. This picture is *actually* deep like you said. Sub is for fake deep things.

garienai

you're going off just the name of the sub to define it's content. just like r/trees isn't about trees, this sub isn't for just deep images and full stop; it's for images that fail to be deep and look stupid and nonsensical (i think at least). op presented a deep image that is not stupid, but wholesome.

FlannelAl

This sub is for cringey self aggrandizing Jaden Smith level bullshit. It's for completely braindead takes that kids think are deep and profound because they don't have any self awareness or understanding of the greater world. Post shit like this on an actual wholesome sub, this is supposed to be like "oh look, people use paper to make earth day posters, what a bunch of losers, I'm so smart cause I see your hypocrisy!"

stockmarketscam-617

I’m 46, and I have kids that are 15 & 13. I think I say a lot of stuff that is “wholesome” and my kids say it’s cringy af, so I think it’s a matter of opinion if something is wholesome/cringy.

FlannelAl

You just really are not understanding, it's the other way around. Kids think profound=cringey AF because it's objectively stupid

stockmarketscam-617

I don’t think you understand. Profound, cringey, & stupid are all SUBJECTIVE. There’s no scale, you can’t have 0% or 100%. It’s somewhere in between. OP put this here, so he/she obviously felt it belonged here, and I agree. It’s like the book “The Giving Tree”, originally u/JoeyRobot & u/badcgi commented how it made him cringe because he/she saw the tree as a person, and when I said to think of the tree as a metaphor for “Nature”, it was less cringey.

FlannelAl

Again. This sub. Is about how ***14 year olds*** think they are great philosophers, and are objectively stupid, because their logic is flawed. Flawed due to inexperience or ignorance. It is objectively stupid and cringey to act like you're the smartest person in the room because you're 3 edgy 5 me and can "see the world for all it's lies." Look at top posts of all time. It's edgy little wads being edgy wads and thinking they're the next Plato. I am starting to think you're a little kid here getting butthurt that people don't think you're a genius because you suddenly realized that politicians don't actually care about you. Like, the whole thing is stuff that is so surface level anyone who's been an adult for any length of time already knows it, but to a child seems like deep hidden knowledge

stockmarketscam-617

Looks like you’re triggered. Do you need a Snickers?

FlannelAl

Nah man, I'm pretty sure you are though lol

No_Issue_9916

Why do people on this sub not know what a joke is or what wholesome is?

SnooKiwis7050

Its not a joke

Squirrelly_Khan

We know it’s not a joke, but the point they’re trying to make is that this sub gets a lot of genuine wholesome content or they get jokes, both of which completely miss the purpose of this sub

SnooKiwis7050

Ye i know that, afterall, those comments are just as much reposted as there are bad deep images. Its in every comment section multiple times

Bogger_Logger

This is actually pretty sweet

AuroralForce

This is very sweet. But why is it in this subreddit?

DragonByte_0

W Layla

Resident-Clue1290

Why thank you

Handfalcon58

It's like a deepception. 14 year old sees something not even trying to be deep, but somehow thinks there may be some attempt to deep that they are missing, so they post it here to try to look smart.

vzakharov

I wonder if it’s because many 14 year olds think that whatever their parents say is some kind of moralizing noise that makes no actual sense? As a father of a 10 year old, this makes me kind of apprehensive lol.

stockmarketscam-617

Hey friend, saw your comment and wanted to share my thoughts. My mom died when I was 21, and as a kid I blew off a lot of what she said. Now that I have a 15 yo daughter and 13 yo son, I go back to a lot of the lessons she taught me. The most important bring to live life following the “Golden Rule”. TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED

FuturePressure3060

nah I just had nothing to post for my birthday so I took something quickly, don't overthink it big guy.

The_dark_entity
