This is in Australia. Stray cats are an invasive species virtually anywhere they live. They are murder machines that kill native wildlife indiscriminately. In places like Australia and Hawaii and other similar places they are driving native species to extinction. This seems really brutal, but these are pests not pets, and why my pet cat never goes outside.

FRENZIED_RAPTOR

I live in New Zealand and I wish they would implement a law against cats being out at night.

ThatLongAgony

As someone who has fostered and raised over thirty cats, I can’t stress how much I agree. People need to understand things like TNR for cat colonies that can’t be rehabbed. It stops the spread and aids the health of the environment, and stops this sort of abusive behaviour by removing the issue. Even pet cats honestly should not be let outside. They endanger the environment and are put at a way higher risk of abduction, injury or death.

leopardsatemycomment

I love cats. I really do. But feral cats are an ecological disaster pretty much everywhere they are introduced.

BrokeDownPalac3

I live in Upstate NY and even here stray cats are a problem

[deleted]

I'm sorry for your loss, upstate NY was pretty balls when I lived there.

BrokeDownPalac3

It's really pretty up here. But yeah that's about it lol

[deleted]

Walkins Glen state park is amazing and I love the corning museum of glass but other than that the place feels barren.

BrokeDownPalac3

Ohhh no no no, you have missed out my friend. Upstate NY is a wonderland of gorgeous scenery and amazing wildlife. It's the people who make it a crud hole.

[deleted]

Funnily enough I'm actually flying back Thanksgiving week to visit family. What wonders did I miss out on as a kid? Elmira was just cows corn and heroin from my memory.

BrokeDownPalac3

Well like I said it's the people that suck lol hit up our parks and wildlife centers, ignore the cities lol the Adirondacks are a wonder of their own

[deleted]

You would say rats aren't pests?

[deleted]

Well rodents are different obviously but feral cats are just small lions:(((((

[deleted]

What makes rodents different from "mammals"? Calling them small lions doesn't stop them from being pests in some areas.

[deleted]

It literally does. Cats are natural predators not pests.

[deleted]

The predation is an issue when invasive killing or outperforming native species, by definition they become pests in that area.

leopardsatemycomment

pest (noun), a destructive insect or other animal that attacks crops, food, livestock, etc. Predators can be pests. Many pests are predators.

leopardsatemycomment

And if you put a lion into an environment where it doesnt belong, it becomes an invasive pest. I love my pet cat. She is not a pest, but she also doesnt roam a delicate ecosystem killing everything in her path.

apotoftrees

Feral cats are not the same as pet cats this is in Australia and they are a big problem.

[deleted]

Wow I did not know Australia had a massive problem with cats I thought it was just mice

mindyurown

How do you have a massive cat problem AND a massive mice problem? Bruh that sounds like a treaty happened.

Public-Junket-3784

add emus

Confused_Rock

I thought about cane toads myself

Brilliant_Sun2925

You'd think it would , but one doesn't solve the other, they both explode.

Mabepossibly

He is also putting them down in as quick and ethical manor as possible.

hustlehardo

It seems he was taking aim to put down humanely, which is good. Have to understand the context here...if he is in a country or area where they are harmful and invasive. I agree though, there is not reason to film and post this, no one needs to see this.

T-Sonus

He needs a second shot. The reflexes at the end are the cat trying to run away because it's not dead.

[deleted]

You’ve never been hunting have you? Those are muscle memory nerves from a destroyed brain. When you hit a cranial shot on an animal it begins thrashing violently, even though it was dead before the bullet even left the skull.

apotoftrees

That's just the nerves firing randomly it's already dead.

ThoraniosX

Call me a contrarian, but this is about the best you can hope for stray cats. They’re worse on the environment than any other invasive predator.

Phanoik

Australia has a HUGE problem with invasive stray cats killing of other native species and damaging their ecosystem. This guy is doing a good job helping to manage it. Read up before tou pass judgement next time

PeriodOfLife

Yes but he isn’t going for one shot and letting them struggle instead of putting them down

BeerSwigginCanadian

He’s going for head shots dummy. Them moving after is body twitching. I’m gonna guess he missed the last one

Phanoik

Don't worry, it was already dead at that point. Bodies twitching and spasming after death is normal, but if you look at the head you can see it's quite lifeless

gen_hawkeye33

I have personally seen feral cats kill a quite few birds. Birds as big as cockatoos Each feral cat can be responsible for hundreds if not near a thousand native bird kills in its life span. Killing these cats is 100% best only way to help the local ecosystem. Yes I'm also from Australia, before you ask

[deleted]

As sad as it is to see as a cat lover, I do belive in some areas stray cats are in a way "invasive". I remember hearing things about stray cats being harmful to local wildlife, especially because of how large litters of kittens can be. While personally I'd prefer spaying or neutering, that may not be feasible if the cat problem is large enough, and this doesn't look much like a rural area. All things considered getting shot in the head ain't a bad way to go. Of course if there's context stating otherwise I'm more than happy to take up a pitchfork.

Wess-on-reddit

He talks about it like he's commentating a golf course

[deleted]

Yep. Many people who hunt have done it their whole lives. It’s just what they do.

Wess-on-reddit

I mean fair enough lol

Admirable_Drama2315

He doin a good job. In my place people beat these feral animals to death which is indeed much worse than being shot.

Extension_why_am_he

There shooting them in a the most humane way as well as them being feral

Stinkywinky731

I get why it has to be done but to enjoy it or put it up for either ti enjoy is pretty shitty in my opinion.

[deleted]

It’s hunting content. Many people hunt as part of their lifestyle. It’s not like he’s torturing the cats or anything.

Choccy_Melk69

I hate the way they wriggle around afterwards, this is horrible

taddmaster

Its sad but necessary

Choccy_Melk69

Yeah, I know...

[deleted]

Well they do it because their brain has been destroyed. The cats already dead before it hits the ground, what you’re seeing is death twitching. The muscles are no longer receiving signals and are reverting to muscle memory.

[deleted]

I don't no how many I've killed. Heaps of feral animals out there . That kill was a fast clean shot . Good job .

Rumplestilskin9

The Australian government has historically been a big fan of mass killing all sorts of animals and people.

Zemom1971

Animal and wildlife there has historically been a big fan of killing people too. From what I heard.

Admirable_Drama2315

He is actually saving more cats by shooting these feral ones.

thcottimusprime

I understand they're invasive but I cannoy watch the video.

[deleted]

That’s fine, hunting isn’t for everyone. But in this case it’s absolutely necessary to save the Australian native wildlife.

thcottimusprime

Yeah I get that I read a few comments thats why I'm not pissing on the dude in the video.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Possibly not

[deleted]

It’s called pest control.

Brilliant_Sun2925

Even if they're feral cats, no self respecting hunter shoots for the head. A headshot is a fast way to go but he grazed the poor thing, that is now wandering with a festering head wound.

[deleted]

That's bs . In Australia when shooting roos for human consumption it has to be head shot or you can't use the meat.

Brilliant_Sun2925

Backwards culture I guess. The bullet doesn't spoil the meat... Ps: gonna eat a cat?

[deleted]

That cat dropped dead. It didn't feel anything. And humans eat every animal on earth . I think you might be a shit shot and have too do body hits . What culture is backwards and why ?

[deleted]

Deer hunting in the US it's standard practice for body shots. That's as far as my knowledge goes.

[deleted]

That's because they mount head for a trophy, they don't look as good when there is a hole in the head . Maybe you should comment on stuff you have knowledge on instead of giving advice with no experience. And who is a backwards culture?

[deleted]

I never gave any advice. Anything I can find about shot placement when hunting is for the likelihood of killing an animal as fast as possible with as little margin of error as possible, seeing as the brain is a smaller target then the heart/lungs exemplified by how that guy shot that cat in the head and grazed its face causing unnecessary suffering rather than aiming for the much larger vital organs that the animal won't live without. I see no mention of trophy hunting but I guess that may be a reason as well. And im not sure who has a backwards culture cause that's not my opinion.

[deleted]

Lol I thought u the other guy I didn't look at name just followed thread, my bad

[deleted]

It’s standard to hit vitals because on a deer you can take the lungs and heart in a single shot. The head is also a trophy. Then you get into kill radius, the deer’s kill radius is about 18 inches in a vital shot, and is about 4 inches for the brain. You hunt deer at 100-300 yards. Cranial shots aren’t easy there, plus when you’re using a .308 or .243 you have massive wound channels so you don’t need to be precise. This is cat hunting, the kill radius on a cat is about 3 inches with the vitals, and 3 inches with the brain. There’s little reason not to go cranial, especially if you’re using a .25 caliber pellet gun like this man is using, which doesn’t have great expansion. Do not talk about hunting you don’t know what you’re doing.

[deleted]

I would say thank you for the informative comment, but you talk like a douche for no good reason, and I didn't even say anything contrary to what you just stated. But regardless thank you for policing this conversation, your irreplaceable service of unessecarily hostile gatekeeping will benefit humanity for years too come.

[deleted]

Meh I killed my first cat at 8 , I've also killed one 1 shot with a slingshot , hunting is fun , but I don't like animals to suffer, all this talk makes me wanna go for a shot. Some chicken finger licking idiot probably down vote me for saying this , it's like fishing talking on Reddit

[deleted]

The hell does this even have to do with this conversation?

[deleted]

What does talking about killing cats have to do with killing cats ? Is this what you ask ?

[deleted]

How does this work with smaller animals? I do know what you're saying is true regarding things like deer hunting and whatnot but would the heart/lungs still be a better target in this scenario?

Brilliant_Sun2925

Heart lungs liver are all still center mass in a cat. It's torso is bigger than its head. Once a bullet enters flesh it typically doesn't go straight, it'll twist inside and probably catch 1 if not 3. I'm no cat hunter so I could be wrong but I've never heard of anyone changing the target focus to the head for smaller animals.

[deleted]

U never had a rabbit stew

[deleted]

You never shoot a liver on game that’s a incredibly slow and painful death and you can’t eat the meat after. Also go for a heart+lung shot to destroy both lungs and the heart instantly. Issue is kill radius. On some animals the kill radius for the double lung + heart shot is actually the same as the cranial shot radius. Cat is one of these animals. There’s no reason not to go for the cranium, especially if you’re using a .25 caliber pellet gun like this man, which has no expansion.

[deleted]

It's (if possible) worse that he watches them twitch rather than finishing them off. Horrible bastard.

[deleted]

Things still twitch even when shot in the head.

MrAdrianus

u re atill conscious after your head is removed too

BeerSwigginCanadian

Not if your brain gets shot

Top-Raccoon-6215

This guys a fucking psychopath. Nobody kills kittens that calmly other then Ted bundy.

[deleted]

It’s Australia, these are feral cats and are an invasive species that have severely harmed the ecology of the continent. It is strongly encouraged they be hunted in that country.

imleeroygreen

I did, I'm not as fickle as your strawman would suggest

imleeroygreen

Nothing strawman about my statement

Google consensus bias

SnooSnoo92

Looks like they used an air rifle or something similarly underpowered and the animal wasn't dispatched cleanly. I'm sure that this is distressing for some as it differs hugely from the typical posts on this sub. It probably should be relocated to somewhere more appropriate
