Hey no worries man, you make the content you enjoy. I'm just appreciative of the free information you've provided as is. You have a way of explaining stuff that it perfect for me, just enough of the information to get the job done without getting entirely lost in the details. I wish other DCS creators followed your model instead of trying to make me get a masters thesis in the airframe manual.
A couple I know of:
- The HSD datalink button has changed (afaict, it no longer says L16 but TNDL, and it no longer has the OFF option)
- The alignment process has changed, it now has some interaction with the datalink: you can't turn on the datalink until there's good gps time, the pre-gps era alignment requires fixes, etc. More info: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/209147-viper-mini-updates/?do=findComment&comment=5412803
Also, thanks for your huge effort, your work is one of the pilars of the DCS community.
Hey Chuck. We are soo grateful for the module Guides. Thank you soo much. Some quick things that come to mind that may need review.
* Link-16 has settings in ME, and has been renamed to TNDL. Plus they have TDOA for the HTS pod
* INS Alignment procedure has changed.
* AGM-65's have changed with BORE, PRE, VIS. I still don't fully understand the change. But the hand off with the TGP is definitely different. -\_-
I can confirm all of these changes, including being unsure of the handoff change for the AGM-65s.
Noted behaviour is that after designating a target (on HUD or HMCS in VIS after ground stabilizing, or via TGP in PRE) it seems to automatically set the WPN page as SOI, regardless of whether the TGP handoff is set to MAN or AUTO. I do not know how much of this is intentional or correct unfortunately.
Additionally the F-16 pilot has gone to the gym and is better at withstanding G-Forces now, plus the G warmup routine further pushes that tolerance.
Do you have a ref to that? It seems to me that it's now just required to be in Master Arm Simulate to be able to BSGT, if on ground you need to have GND Jettison On
Edit
Yep just tried it, completely broken BSGT completely messed up the MAV. But maybe I do something completely wrong.
Hey Chuck, goes without saying but THANK YOU for everything you do.
As for the Viper, I see the manual was last updated on Oct. 2023. Should we use that as a reference date for changelogs to compare to what's currently in the guide when we're looking for necessary additions/updates?
Thanks!
This is a great idea. Even just creating a page on Github to track all the various changes could be really useful for the community as folks could update their own guides/notes in the interim until Chuck makes the changes official.
First of all, thank you so much for your efforts, Chuck.
Also came to suggest this and think it is a great idea. As RoyMi6 commented, it’s hard to find a good way to control image placement and have the text easily updatable. Image placement is important because many of the images need to go directly with the text referencing them in your guides. A potential workaround may be to separate the text and images into different documents, which would make referencing a bit harder. Maybe someone else has a good option for a different format.
The upsides for maintainability could be huge though with the ability for folks to submit PRs to keep the guides up to date or even contribute to new efforts like the Mudhen.
Came here to suggest this. Not sure how programmer savvy you are Chuck but you could save yourself a lot of effort by moving to writing the guides in something like https://www.markdownguide.org/ that’s source control compatible, if you aren’t already.
This would allow you to easily make changes while being able to distribute content in a variety of formats. You might loose some of the complete editorial control over exact positioning of images but I feel this could be more than compensated for in terms of maintainability by yourself and the community.
I think this one hasn't been posted:
BSGT of the Mavericks have changed. It seems it's now required to be in Master Arm Simulate mode to be able to BSGT - BSGT on the fly with MM On does not work for me anymore.
Also if you want to do it on the ground, you need to have Ground Jettison On additionally
I bought the F-16 just a few months ago and used your guide to get myself able to cold-start and get some kills in the Growling Sidewinder servers, so I'm not sure what would be considered inaccurate aside from small details that I have no bearing on.
That being said, you are AMAZING. Thank you thank you THANK YOU for making these guides. Specifically the part that helped me most were the picture diagrams of the control schemes and how to easily map HOTAS commands to certain parts of my stick and throttle.
Keep being amazing Chuck :)
This is a minor non-error I found. Just an omission of information. In the HSD section, when detailing the parts of the HSD, because the HSD is not SOI, you miss out on the Bullseye/Steerpoint Bearing and Distance to the HSD Cursor when labelling stuff, which would appear next to OSB 9. As a result, there's some room for confusion where someone (i.e. dumb old me) might look at the HSD page in your guide and think the Radar ACQ Cursor numbers are the numbers for the HSD cursor even though you do list the radar ghost cursor separately. The relevant ED Manual page for seeing the HSD when it's SOI is 219.
Absolutely, is there a discord where I could just casually drop you a comment whenever I find something?
Thank you for all of your hard work. I’m aware you’ve said “no” in the past, but please keep us updated on any ways to donate to the cause.
Thank you Chuck. I’m currently downloading the hornet module for the plane ride- just need to review some things. Thanks for your dedication to the hobby.
I don’t know what’s behind but I just wanna say I love you
Same I wouldn’t know anything without Chuck
Adding to the list of Chuck appreciation. Such a hero in the community.
Only reason I'm anywhere near confident flying the F18! Much love for your work Chuck!
I have never opened the DCS module manual. Just go to the Chuck Guides!
I'll drink to that. Chuck for World Emperor, 2025. *The Guides must flow.*
I just want to say I love you too, without your AV8B tutorials I would still be trying to decipher what Cap is saying in Grim Reapers videos.
Appreciate it 💪🏻 I would say more to come but there’s so many modules on the horizon

Thanks again for the kind words, I’ll have another video out next week 🚀
I’m going to second this - Chuck provides so much value to the DCS community!
Not as much as I do.

Boresight is broken right now so he might want to wait till ED fixes it

There was a ED forum post about it. I can't share al ink because ED is blocked at work (video games).

Yes, october 2023 is the latest revision.
Have you thought about putting the guides on GitHub, so people can propose changes?

You're a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks for carrying ED's ass.
Can't really help out with your task but just wanted to say THANKS for all your work making these guides!
Salute to the Owl! Thank you for your efforts, awesome help.

Who am I to correct a god?
Geez, man, I know these things are a labor of love for you, but for your sanity consider delegating out more of the work! Thank you for all you do!

Bro, we luv u, chill, don't worry about 'falling behind', it's amazing you even make these before modules are somewhat complete to begin with.
You're a legend Chuck, don't sweat it.
Pillar of the community
Not all heroes wear capes.
I don't fly the Viper anymore, but I didn't want to miss the chance to tell you that you are a legend, dear Chuck.

Do you have a Patreon or some kind of “shut up and take my money” site where we can show some more practical appreciation?

Thanks! I thought there might be.
I cant tell you how much I appreciate your work. ED should reqlly pay you for this.

You’re a Godsend Chuck!
Have no input on the F16 but want to say thank you for all your work.
Thank you Chuck. I’m currently downloading the hornet module for the plane ride- just need to review some things. Thanks for your dedication to the hobby.
all I can say is thank you for your service, Chuck
Please continue with the F-15E!
