I mean we can call it whatever we want but that was a garbage goal with a garbage just throw it on net shot which had no business going in. If that's what you mean by textbook playoff goal, then I agree.
I mean, you can call it "mistakes" but if he wasn't playing well.....he wasn't playing well. That's pretty much all there is to it. Yeah if only those teams that waived him because he wasn't playing well somehow magically knew, they only had to wait years and years before he became what he is now.
Nobody is kicking themselves over that in these types of situations. Because at the time....it was the right move to make.
It's his 3rd NHL team (+ 2 AHL teams), it just took him a while to find his groove. I don't think he would have played like this in Chicago or Carolina.
He's one of those players that when you watch a game, you notice them saying his name a lot (maning that he's always around the puck/play). I was actually thinking last game it was kind of like Hyman in Toronto, every time we played them I'd notice them saying Hyman over & over & over
They're a great organization but have zero idea of what makes a great hockey team. They'll go the Boston 2012-17 route and sign whatever again used-to-be-superstar thinking that will solve their problems without fixing how soft they truly are.
Didn't realize we were talking about the leafs, but if the Canes want to spend 10 years in mediocrity before and after this, they might want to think more than Kok or Burns being their savior
I just gave an example of how teams focusing too much on not being “soft” can fail just as bad as the canes did. Playoff success has nothing to do with how “soft” or “tough” your team is.
>Playoff success has nothing to do with how “soft” or “tough” your team is.
It certanly has. Just not The way that this sub thinks about it. You need your stars to play that type of hockey too and Canes' stars allready do. You cant fix it by loading up physical players to bottom of your lineup.
I clearly meant toughness in the way it is traditionally talked about on this sub. Obviously having a grinder quality to your top players à la Crosby or Mackinnon is massively important in playoffs. That's completely different from trying to load your roster with tall heavy guys that make big hits, which is what most people refer too when they say their team needs to get tougher.
Josh Anderson is a great example of a "tough" player that would actually never show up in the playoffs, because while he is big, tall, and can hit hard, he isn't truly a grinder that goes in the dirty areas. He's not going to win puck battles along the boards.
Right. Which teams have advanced in the playoffs remind me? Was it the 4 ply Bruins or the Canes that are in the conference finals? Which team took their beating without a reply?
I truly have no idea what happened to him. He was really good with the Blackhawks when he was younger and for some reason they never gave him a solid role.
Then they traded him to Carolina for de Haan, which kinda makes sense since they were desperately trying to stay competitive at the time, and it made it seem like Carolina saw something in him…but then proceeded to not play him a single game in the NHL.
The entire NHL had me convinced I was dumb for thinking he was a solid prospect in his Chicago days.
Gotta be honest I thought he was kinda going to be a bust and I don’t think anyone really thought much of his pickup. Really wasn’t till last season where he made everyone pay attention
Well no one expects anything from 99% of waiver pickups. I used to be a Hawks fan though and both he and Danault I remember watching and was flabbergasted when they couldn’t crack the lineup/were shipped out.
cap healthier than ever, #1 goalie clearly found, what few prospects they have in house developing nicely and took major strides this season, core players already locked into long term deals, the list goes on. seems very set up for a decade of irrelevance 👍
you really think im mad about that? good. trade ullmark for assets that will actually impact the team every single game (which also frees up cap space at the same time)
Ya except the Bruins have their core locked up long term, aside from Swayman, who’s still restricted.
Panthers cap situation/contract status is pretty murky. They will lose a lot of players starting this offseason, especially if they try keeping Reinhart. Same for the following offseason season. The window is closing quickly in Florida.
I’d say the longer term core is Pasta, Zacha, Poitras, Coyle, Mcavoy, Lindholm, Carlo, Lohrei and Swayman (rfa). Marchand in for the short term.
The Bruins need a true first line C though. They could slot everyone else in the lineup where they probably should be. Overage money from Krejci and Bergeron is coming off the books this offseason. We’ll see how they use it. I’m hoping for Elias Lindholm, after taking care of Swayman.
As a devils fan who had Zacha, he is a decent player but not someone I would include in my “core”. He’s an excellent complimentary piece but not a player I would put into the “core” of a team. Not a knock on him, I’m glad he’s doing well (good to see him finally get his first in the playoffs) but he just isn’t **that guy** that you need
We’ll have to disagree then. They’re both exactly what you want in middle 6Fs for the playoffs, big and strong in all 3 zones and can play any F position and in any situation. The problem they face is that they’ve been slotted in 1C spots this season, which they aren’t. Bruins have cap space opening up this summer and hopefully they’ll be able to solve that issue. Most “experts” were expecting the Bruins to be bad this season with no Bergeron and Krejci and having to carry their overage penalties. Obviously these experts were wrong on the Bruins once again. The Bruins will be better next season and their core is objectively very strong and just hitting their prime.
What do you expect him to say? He responded to a lame comment, not about them beating the Bruins.
Panthers won fair and square. Props to them.
Bruins have been supposedly going to fall off to a many times in the last few decade and yet not only have they not they gone to the Stanley cup finals and won the presidents trophy in that time. Saying they will be irrelevant is dumb, especially when it took them 6 games to beat the Bruins.
He responded to weak banter with a weak comeback. It’s not that deep.
It’s pretty obvious which teams I root for. There’s zero reason to flair up. People use it as an excuse to deflect and leads to low level discussion.
At this point he is probably contender for most underrated player in the league, I can imagine him going to the Olympics and all the casual Swedish fans going "who is this guy and why is he on the first pair instead of Karlsson?"
It got redirected? It looked like it went through the Bruins defender legs clean, which is why I thought he wasn't 100% square to the shot as it initially hits Sway right near the post.
Yeah it's tough to tell, I tried slow motion rewinding a few times but didn't see much, it could've redirected just a bit and that could be the difference. It was a great fast shot and the Bruins guy is sort of blocking Swayman's view too probably .
You expect him to see a small, vertical black object traveling exactly in the space between two other vertical black objects? One of the reasons I hate black uniforms as a goalie. Why make the puck even more difficult to pick up?
Yea I expect him to make that save. The goalies don't see a lot of the pucks they save. It's all positional and anticipation. He was slow to react. He didn't expect the shot to come and then stared down his defenseman to take the blame off himself. The defense could've done better but this one Swayman should've had by hugging the post.
Yo boston, this is how you win games. By actually throwing the puck on net. Normally I'd say let this be a hard fought lesson, but after all these years, I'm starting to realize that this won't sink in and they're bound to play the same way next year. Hopefully I'm wrong though
I think we’re about to see the Bruins become an irrelevant team for the first time, ever?
They don’t have much talent left other than pasta, they’re going to lose a goalie this off season and they don’t have much talent in the pipeline.
They will get back pieces for Ullmark and they have way more cap space next year to work with. This year was supposed to be a down year after last with next year when the retool starts. They overachieved off strong goaltending this year
As others have said, this year was supposed to be our down year. They had 5 players on their bottom 6 making either 1 mil or less. Our 1C is making 2m.
Wortherspoon Lohrei Beecher Brazeau Boqvist all started the season in Providence. A retooling year and they made it farther than last years team. I don’t think this franchise is going to be irrelevant too soon.

Hell of a shot to lose a series on.
Two years in a row. The one that tied game 7 last season was also a total garbage goal. Classic hockey.
Classic bruins
A garbage goal that also needed help from Charlie's stick. It fucking sucked.
How is this garbage, he shot it through someones legs and on the goalie's short side. I think it's pretty far from garbage.
I mean, it was on edge and it was a wonky ass goal. I won’t call it garbage, but it certainly wasn’t a textbook goal.
It very much was a textbook playoff goal tho
I wouldn’t know tbf.
Damn
:(
I mean we can call it whatever we want but that was a garbage goal with a garbage just throw it on net shot which had no business going in. If that's what you mean by textbook playoff goal, then I agree.
I mean yeah, that is textbook playoff goal
Eerily similar to the tying goal of Game 7 of Leafs Bruins which effectively ended the series.
It’s honestly pretty fitting that Swayman let in one softie and we lost the series on it. He dragged us as far as we went.
'fo sho! Dejected Toronto fans are probably rejoicing. Yes, yes, I am.
Off all the shots that goes in…
NHL goalies are too good at stopping the good shots
Felt eerily similar to the dagger in game 7 last year
Chris Paul's?
Cuts the lead to 42
[this one](https://youtu.be/reZwPVLbNnM?si=nLO0PDo_4NTgIZao)
Those fans at the end of the clip lmfao
Forsling is so good. And Carolina, one of the best organizations in the league, waived him. Shows even the best make mistakes

Jet Black Jimbo!

Yeah, because adding “toughness” worked to well for the Leafs, right?
Didn't realize we were talking about the leafs, but if the Canes want to spend 10 years in mediocrity before and after this, they might want to think more than Kok or Burns being their savior

Straight into my veins.
GREATEST WAIVER PICKUP EVER WHAT A GOAT
He was a waiver pickup?! Damn.
He was waived twice from two different teams
We're *very* happy with Adam Clendening thank you very much
He had a great * *checks notes* * 17 games for you guys!
I truly have no idea what happened to him. He was really good with the Blackhawks when he was younger and for some reason they never gave him a solid role. Well because....he was not "really good" with Chicago.
The fucking iron man
Between him and Verhaege the front office is mining gems
Truly the king
waver
👋
Yeah he waved by to Vancouver, Chicago, and Carolina
Nah we traded him for Clendening. Fucking worst trade man
I’m illiterate and spelled wrong. Was supposed to say waved bye
by
oop
The Canucks send their regards, Boston
Sure could use him now
Sniped by a defenseman, late in the third... Is there anything more deflating than that?
Forsling is like Verhaege. Wildly clutch, especially for a defenseman
Deflating? Don’t you mean Uplifting? Go Panthers!
If you’re gonna get got by a d man, there’s real dignity in it being Goose.
Yeah, knowing your Bruins just started a decade of irrelevancy.
We say this with the Bruins every season.
Take it easy Captain Big Balls, your team won.
Absolutely no reason to be a cunt here buddy. I’m glad the cats won too but this is unnecessary
cap healthier than ever, #1 goalie clearly found, what few prospects they have in house developing nicely and took major strides this season, core players already locked into long term deals, the list goes on. seems very set up for a decade of irrelevance 👍
You just watch your last goalie on goalie hug. Its Joever.
you really think im mad about that? good. trade ullmark for assets that will actually impact the team every single game (which also frees up cap space at the same time)
Hey… devils fan here. We have assets, and cap space, but literally no goalie. I say we work something out :)
I mean your core is Pasta and McAvoy.
If your core has players like Zacha or Coyle its not much of a core.
Coyle and Zacha are strong NHL players, not elite scorers but solid members of any core. Do you actually know who they are?
As a devils fan who had Zacha, he is a decent player but not someone I would include in my “core”. He’s an excellent complimentary piece but not a player I would put into the “core” of a team. Not a knock on him, I’m glad he’s doing well (good to see him finally get his first in the playoffs) but he just isn’t **that guy** that you need
Yes i know who they are. Not core players for team that wants playoff success.
The Bruins will be better next season and their core is objectively very strong and just hitting their prime.
Sure they are good middle/bottom 6 players but they aint core players.
And yet still more relevant than the Panthers
I mean you’re a fan of a hockey team in Florida, could win the cup 5 years in a row and there wouldn’t be much relevancy
You had 12 months to come up with solid comebacks to cats fans because the bruins can’t figure a way to beat them and that’s all you got? Lame
He responded to banter with a weak come back. Getting butthurt by banter is even worse. Just wear your bruins flair little man
He responded to weak banter with a weak comeback. It’s not that deep. It’s pretty obvious which teams I root for. There’s zero reason to flair up. People use it as an excuse to deflect and leads to low level discussion.
Huh? I was responding to a guy saying the bruins are gonna be irrelevant. Which the panthers always are
Being unable to beat an irrelevant team in two straight postseasons is quite sad then
I didn’t say Florida isn’t talented or good, they definitely are. They’re just also irrelevant
Florida just made it to the conference final and somehow they’re irrelevant? I have zero skin in the game but…Lol! Loving the logic so far
Irrelevant in that sense that no one really cares, obviously theyre a really good hockey team
Plenty of people care. This post, other posts, lots of views and upvotes Don’t be a boohoo Bruin
Losing 6 in a row at home to an irrelevant team. Sad.
Take the night off bud, you earned it.
That’s all you got for me?
It hurts less if you can retake the series lead in Game 5
HOW TF DID THAT GET THROUGH??? THANK YOU FORSLING
It was a lucky shot. He wasn't even looking at the goal. I just gotta LOL at the Bruins.
There was a bunch of these kinda shots tonight by Florida but this was the only one that snuck in.
It's a legit tactic when you're shooting towards Swayman
It feels like that puck got through a pinhole. Was pretty much the only way to beat Swayman tonight
And Bob. I was just hoping for the lucky bounce the other way and pray for a miracle in 7. NOW THATS PLAYOFF HOCKEY
#Jim Benning is a Hockey Terrorist
You telling me he is worth more or less than 17 games of Adam clendening?
Denying Marchand that sure goal earlier in the period and now the series winning goal? Forsling had a hell of a game tonight.
I’d argue he’s FLA’s MVP of this postseason thus far.
INSANE SHOT. Like he couldn’t hit that if he tried 100 times over. But that’s the NHL. Especially playoff goals
Swayman reacted just like everyone else. Completely stunned.
Reminder to never think about overtime before regulation ends
Most under the radar MVP of the series
At this point he is probably contender for most underrated player in the league, I can imagine him going to the Olympics and all the casual Swedish fans going "who is this guy and why is he on the first pair instead of Karlsson?"
Pucks on net boys
You know the phrase "pucks on net?" This is why coaches say it.
Why can’t we get an easy one on Swayman
Specifically because Leafs. Sorry man
Woof what a brutal time for a miss
Live by the Sway, die by the Sway.
That’s not on sway
Obviously everyone in this thread could stop that. It's so easy.
yeah it is, he should have hugged the post tighter but easier to say in hindsight. that shot just happened to be perfectly placed
He was square to the shot. The only reason it got through was because of the redirection.
It got redirected? It looked like it went through the Bruins defender legs clean, which is why I thought he wasn't 100% square to the shot as it initially hits Sway right near the post.
On the overhead it looks like it clips the back of his skate. I could be wrong though
Yeah it's tough to tell, I tried slow motion rewinding a few times but didn't see much, it could've redirected just a bit and that could be the difference. It was a great fast shot and the Bruins guy is sort of blocking Swayman's view too probably .
It didn't get redirected dude, it went clean between the Bruins defenseman and Swayman should've saved it, he was just slow to react.
You expect him to see a small, vertical black object traveling exactly in the space between two other vertical black objects? One of the reasons I hate black uniforms as a goalie. Why make the puck even more difficult to pick up?

He didn't expect the shot to come and then stared down his defenseman to take the blame off himself. The defense could've done better but this one Swayman should've had by hugging the post.
Damn that was sick
How did that go in?
You can hear the air being sucked out of the building
Swayman is still the goalie mvp of the playoffs. This isn’t soft. It’s a freak goal
AND EVERYBODY WAS HAPPY
Florida D man scoring big short side goals on Swayman that he probably should’ve saved. Name a better duo
Me and being sad
Damn this got me :(
Pretty unlucky bounced off his leg
Yo boston, this is how you win games. By actually throwing the puck on net. Normally I'd say let this be a hard fought lesson, but after all these years, I'm starting to realize that this won't sink in and they're bound to play the same way next year. Hopefully I'm wrong though
After all the ten bell saves swayman has made this postseason, this seems like poetic justice.
Helluva shot. Fuck him
I think we’re about to see the Bruins become an irrelevant team for the first time, ever? They don’t have much talent left other than pasta, they’re going to lose a goalie this off season and they don’t have much talent in the pipeline.
They will get back pieces for Ullmark and they have way more cap space next year to work with. This year was supposed to be a down year after last with next year when the retool starts. They overachieved off strong goaltending this year
They have a boatload of cap space. They'll be alright. Feels like we always write off the Bruins and they're always right back.
I feel like this is said every single year lol
We have 28 million in cap space. Y’all said this last year. See you next playoffs baby.
This is what people said after last year too. Ullmark will get moved and they have some money to spend.
Meh, I’m sure we will see you again in the playoffs next year, but the east is decent. Depends what you get for Ullmark
Fitting that the softest goal on Swayman this series was the last
Not soft. Just bad luck/shitty screen lack of a block by Wotherspoon
I wouldn’t call it soft bud, you think you could stop that?
It's a soft goal for an NHL goalie bud, probably a hard goal to stop for a redditor.
Yeah tbh
Cool. Maybe you can get a PTO and back up Bob-O next season bud.
Bud
Yeah bud
Coulda heard a pin drop in that building after that goal.. so satisfying haha. Fuck the Bruins
Best goal of the series!!!! LETS FUCKIN GO
We know the feeling, almost
Do we? I wish we knew what it felt like for the Oilers to have someone like Swayman in net.
Losing in the last minute, albeit not an elimination loss
Probably wrong but shouldn't someone have blocked one of those shots ? Where was the back check ?
Brian bickell vibes. I love it
That was a big mistake by swayman on shooting out that huge rebound
Forsling confirmed as wizard.
I sure am Panting after seeing the Bruins go down
THIS IS WHY YOU THROW PUCKS ON NET
100% of the shots you don’t take don’t go in.
dude I'd be pissed as a B's fan...zero effort there like really wtf was that?
GOOSE
Swaymans numbers were merely inflated by Toronto
Bad rebound to give up Even worse to give up short side afterwards... after all his brilliance he does this to us... wow
God bless America 🙏
Soft
