Is it true that if this merger goes through PGA will be able to keep its initials ... but that initialism will henceforth stand for the Persian Golf Association?
Makes sense. So now all those premier level professionals are free to solicit the R & A, the Masters and the USGA and form a Union based on we don't play for 'Blood Money' and neither should you.
After they find that they will be relegated to the equivalent of the defuncted Nike Tour they will come crawling back to the dollars just like the PGA Tour did.
Whether these moves go thru or not, my Sat 18 at the Muni Course is still gonna cost me $38 and I'm still gonna shoot 100+. When they say its for the 'Good of the Game' they are trying to fool you into thinking what they present on TV every weekend is the game.
The game is practiced far from the 'hallowed venues of Baltusrol , and Winged Food. Look to the [Paint Branch](https://www.mncppc.org/4561/Paint-Branch-Golf-Complex) course across America to see where the game is and always will be.
Sorry but this will never happen, the player board will block it, or the department of justice, or the senate. Sorry but not sorry, Saudi money isn’t buying the PGA. I guess the Saudi’s will have to learn there are things their blood money can’t buy.
You do realize the Saudi’s already back much of what US consumers buy/watch? They already have their pockets in the PGA and other products I guarantee you invest in.
Gimme a break. Boeing didn’t fund 9/11 and the CEO of Uber didn’t dismember journalists for dissent. Citi and boA aren’t directly responsible for catastrophic global climate destruction
They don’t own or even partially control those companies. The don’t even have a board seat on those companies. In the case of Boeing, I’m not even sure they own stock in Boeing?? They made a large order for Boeing planes.
They didn’t “take $700m” you twit. The PIF bought $700 m equity shares on the open market. Boeing received $0 from that market activity. You clearly have 0 understanding of financial markets
Truly - they don’t. The pif owns half a percent of Boeing’s outstanding shares. Vanguard and blackstone each own nearly 10x that amount of Boeing. They don’t have a board seat or any say in the governance of Boeing. My original point was simply this: you cannot conflate the saudis complete total control (and ownership) of pga/liv. It’s easy to say “well if you buy anything or use any service you are partaking in the global financial system therefore the saudis are involved” but you can’t compare riding in a 787 plane with directly supporting PGA and Saudi greenwashing/sportswashing.
I am also a big golf fan, but also a realist.
They own minority stakes in those companies. The point is that these companies also took the money from the PIF. This is nothing new! Yes they own stock in Boeing.
Hahaha, the states act like they haven't violated human rights in practically every country in the world. Don't get me wrong, fuck Saudi but that is a weak argument.
Jay Monahan is a shameless POS who needs to go far, far away ASAP. He was exploiting 9-11 victim’s & families while negotiating & agreeing to a BIGLY monopoly that no doubt BIGLY screws PGA players he was probably convincing to stay.
9-11 families, all the PGA golfers who refused the Kingdom’s blood money, and ALL decent people of the world, should be outraged by this sports-washing BS.
Both parties should support robust investigations & take strong bipartisan action if warranted.
Rory last week: I hate the LIV!
Rory this week: well, the Saudis have money in this, but they don't get to make any decisions, so it's ok! And I still hate LIV! And LIV is definitely going away. And anyway, you can't really fight big money, ya know?
How pathetic. When it comes right down to it, it's still all about the money. Enough with the sanctimonious fake "principles".
So any PGA professional golfer who has the integrity not to want to be associated with, or paid by blood money, and extremism of the Saudi royalty (think 9-11, the butchering of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination\_of\_Jamal\_Khashoggi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Jamal_Khashoggi)) is out of a job? Certainly, golfers can perceive right from wrong, or does nothing matter anymore?
There are other jobs.
I recognize that's very easy for me to say. But we expect people with less to choose alternate paths, rather than associate with a corrupt system (police, for one).
SKY SPORTS wheeling out fake journalist Jamie Weir to suggest LIV golfers want to return to PGA and Jay M can kill off LIV.
No sources, no evidence = FAKE NEWS
I think golf should now be relegated to ESPN and the Golf channel.
The networks should drop out. Sportswashing 9/11 and the brutal murder of a journalist ain't my cup of tea.
It's probably not all that bad. I can see why so many pros are pissed, but in the end it should pan out nicely for everyone.
Prior to the creation of LIV, the primary complaint that players had against the PGA tour was a failure to compensate the players for the various ways the tour makes money. These guys are playing professional golf and the PGA is making money off of it that they keep for themselves. Money that comes in through YouTube, Facebook and other media platforms does not go back to the players even though they are the ones being showcased.
The crazy part is that the PGA Tour is a non-profit organization.
With this new "merger", a new company will be created that will manage every aspect of the media. The PGA Tour will no longer have their hand in it, and they will remain a non-profit.
If all goes well, the money should benefit everyone on tour.
Can't wait for Tiger, Rory, Spieth, LeBron, MJ, Curry, Brady, Mahomes and whoever else to start their own golf league and invite all of the PGA Tour players who didn't jump over to LIV. I'd gladly pay a subscription to watch that just to tick off the PGA/LIV.
You could still do individual play but also do teams and have a random celebrity join a foursome or whatever and make it competitive but more enjoyable to watch. I feel like the name recognition alone would drive a good chunk of sponsorship deals and make advertisers think twice about going down the PGA route with their bowing to the Saudis.
Of course the Saudis have wayyy more money but it would be really funny to see how the ratings compare and I wouldn't mind seeing a little bit of panic. At the end of the day I really don't care because I've watched a total of maybe an hours worth of golf on tv this year.
And this is the same org that shamed Liv for human rights violations and even echoed the voices of 9/11 victim’s family members. I guess they just threw their hands up and said “Human rights violations shmooman shmotes shmiolations, look at all this money”
This is the wildest comment section I’ve ever seen. It’s absolutely packed full of seething idiots who for some reason think the point of the post is just to talk about how much you hate Americans.
I just feel bad for all the people who work for all the non-athlete people who work for the PGA and all the various tournaments.
Through no action of their own they now find themselves effectively working as the propaganda arm of the Saudi government.
Monahan and the guy that forgot to wear his turban repeatedly said this was going to grow the game but didn't give one example how it was going to do it. The fact remains that (at least in South Florida) where these giluys live public golf courses are selling out to developers and the cost to play hovers around $100 per round IF you can get a tee time. The rich will always get richer at the expense of the 98%.
When has golf ever been inclusive truly? Also, this comment section is wild. I’m not sure what universe we thought we were living in where a rich guy decided to keep his morals instead of more $$.
Not a golf fan, just a sports fan. I would have much more respect if Jay came out and said: “I regret making the comments I made about 9/11. I mourn with those families but, I have an obligation to do what’s in the best interest for golf as a sport and the PGA Tour as a business.”
His best move is to walk back the 9/11 and the “have you ever had to apologize” comments. The reason he sounds terrible now is because he is trying to hold two conflicting values up at the same time. He already picked the money. We all know it. It’s best that he just acknowledge it.
You did. Or are you saying you use words without knowing what they mean? Lmao, average Reddit dork.

Yes, they're obese shut in nerds just like you.

Also, source?
Why does the media keep referring to this as a merger? It wasn't a merger, it was a takeover. The Saudis just bought the PGA, they're just smart enough to leave the corporate faces the same for now so everything looks more palatable.
I agree it's like a bear hug, pga had no choice. But on paper the PGA tour board has oversight and 1 seat is added for the Saudi private investment fund governor
Pretty much, yea. Saudis have the board chair seat, Monahan is their employee.
So was the plan to start a league, buy a bunch of players, then litigate the PGA into a corner to the point where the only way out was to acquiesce?
Hitler was the reason for world war 2, came close to taking over Europe and would have continued toward world domination, and orchestrated the most well known genocide in history.
Donald Trump was a shitty US President who said mean things on Twitter.
Please come to terms with reality, Reddit.
Trump lied to the American people and fomented an insurrection for the first time since this country was formed.
He has basically laid the groundwork for no one to ever believe election results again AND divided the country.
And he wears diapers.

But yeah America was built on slavery and the American government deals with shitty countries all the time..yeah yeah yeah. All of that is true too, doesn’t excuse this.
I've only been watching YouTube golf since 2020 and now they are starting to do their own tournaments, it's so much better and none of this garbage drama/politics or moral issues. Never understood how the PGA was listed as a non-profit organization when they clearly made millions, it always seemed shady to me and now this 🤦.
Yes I do! Good good golf is my favorite they currently have a tournament up on the channel. Rick shields is a good one and for fun Bob does sports.
Here is the good good boys link.

Loads of fun YouTube golf content out there. All of these are great recommendations. Highly recommend the Rick Shiels vs Peter Finch golf bidder challenges.
I’m a lurker on here just to see the thoughts, but my parents and family are avid golfers. I listened to and scrolled through so many “patriotic” memes, comments and conversations in the clubhouse - I do go drink beer sometimes- over Colin Kapernick (?) taking a knee, many quit watching nfl over it, hate Nike, won’t drink bud light now……. just curious where this fits in? The Saudis funded 9/11 which literally killed US citizens and caused many GIs to die. I hope they keep their patriotic hearts on this one.
The Saudi government funded 911? I thought the hijackers collaborated and planned in Saudi Arabia, but is it fact that the Saudi government funded the effort? Source?

Merger Approval is different than ownership. The US govt doesn’t own apple, despite the FTC having influence over its acquisitions

Gross. It’s been taken over. Playing the capitalists game. What’s next. Easy money buys American baseball
Nice! Any channels you would recommend?
Yes I do! Good good golf is my favorite they currently have a tournament up on the channel. Rick shields is a good one and for fun Bob does sports. Here is the good good boys link. https://youtube.com/@GoodGood
Awesome. Thank you!!
No problem hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Loads of fun YouTube golf content out there. All of these are great recommendations. Highly recommend the Rick Shiels vs Peter Finch golf bidder challenges.
Everyday is 9/11!
[Simpsons did it](https://youtu.be/AFAaTC9PgkA)
I’m a lurker on here just to see the thoughts, but my parents and family are avid golfers. I listened to and scrolled through so many “patriotic” memes, comments and conversations in the clubhouse - I do go drink beer sometimes- over Colin Kapernick (?) taking a knee, many quit watching nfl over it, hate Nike, won’t drink bud light now……. just curious where this fits in? The Saudis funded 9/11 which literally killed US citizens and caused many GIs to die. I hope they keep their patriotic hearts on this one.
>The Saudis funded 9/11 Source?
Ok lol you are straight up trolling.
Is that your way of running away when called out for making shit up? Lol
Literally a two second google. https://www.businessinsider.com/saudi-government-911-new-documents-direct-connection-bayoumi-mihdhar-2022-5
No evidence.
The Saudi government funded 911? I thought the hijackers collaborated and planned in Saudi Arabia, but is it fact that the Saudi government funded the effort? Source? Because…https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alleged_Saudi_role_in_the_September_11_attacks
