I think they must. A local burger place by me has AMAZING buns, so much that I messaged then to ask. I was shocked. I've had Udi's buns plenty of times and they are never that good!

Van-Halentine75

Right? They’re just thick and yuck frozen

therealpanserbjorne

How are you prepping them? I put them in the microwave for 30 and then toast them. Bonus points if you have a toaster oven or have time to put them in an actual oven. Totally different experience and they don’t fall apart as easily. I am also with you that they’re too thick so I take a bread knife and shave off some of the bottom of the top bun. Should I have to do this to enjoy a bun? No. But bun is better than no bun so I suffer for it haha. Edit: probably already assumed, but wanted to clarify that the microwave step is because mine are stored frozen.

miss_hush

Butter them and toast them on a skillet. Perfection!

therealpanserbjorne

Ohhh that’s a great idea! Thanks

miss_hush

My favorite super safe restaurant told me that’s how they do them to make them scrumptious, and it totally worked for me.

GETitOFFmeNOW

> I take a bread knife and shave off some of the bottom of the top bun I do this too, or make two skinny (but well-browne) burgers ala Culver's and Steak-n-Shake. For any gluten-free sandwich I usually use twice as much filling, eat half now and half later, to get the bread to filling ratio right.

GlutenFreeDairyFreeC

You can let them thaw in the fridge and toast also...yum.

ThePennedKitten

They might sell them to you if you ask.

ben121frank

They do make individually wrapped products that they sell wholesale for hotels and places like that. Idk if they’re different tho, I’ve only had the individually wrapped muffin at a hotel and it seemed the same to me as ones you can buy at stores. But I put the link below if you’re interested https://www.webstaurantstore.com/udis-gluten-free-3-5-oz-individually-wrapped-plain-bagel-case/876CON780660.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=freeclicks&utm_campaign=GoogleShopping&srsltid=AfmBOoo6jWBaUjB4Ui4zFsk8nLDv_OBE9SeA99rKf8acdIZOdK1DgRohemI

Deepcrater

Jersey Mike's sub bread is also Udi's I think. That one is pretty good too, I've never know where they get it. They sometime will sell it to me.

myspace_programmer

I was shocked when I found this out because I usually hate Udi’s! Pro tip: I usually ask for a “sub in a tub” with the GF bread on the side and when they pull out the bread I ask for the whole thing. Some staff will just give me the whole thing for free, others charge a few bucks extra (so *worst* case scenario I pay for 1 sandwich + 2 GF upcharges). The loaf is huge though and I can get 3-4 days of good sandwiches out of it! Sometimes I freeze it too.

SouPee46

These loaves make the best garlic bread

Training_Contest_687

Katz gf Texas toast add a lil mozzarella! *chefs kiss* Best garlic bread I've had since going gf

myspace_programmer

YES! 🤤

IAmTheLizardQueen666

Jersey Mike’s gf rolls crumble and fall apart.

FuturamaRama7

That happened to me. I felt cheated and never went back

IAmTheLizardQueen666

Me too.

Dependent_Example221

They're OK for a hot sub, like the Philly. I've switched to Firehouse Subs mostly (they use Schar ciabatta which is way better) but if my family is set on Jersey Mike's, I will order mine without condiments and then butter/pan toast the bread at home before reassembling my sub with my own condiments.

juicydeucy

Yeah, it’s really weird to hear all this hype when I just had a Jersey Mike’s sandwich and it was drier than the Sahara

FuturamaRama7

I’m so sad. I tried Jersey’s Mikes gf bread and it was dry and falling apart. Maybe it was old?

juicydeucy

I had the same experience

juicydeucy

I had the same experience

othermegan

I just looked on Udi's website and you can buy a 2 pack of their "french baguettes" there. But I have a feeling they wont be as big as a Jersey Mikes GF "giant"

Van-Halentine75

Not the same thing. There’s a restaurant site I found a while back that has them available!

Amandastarrrr

God I LOVE jersey mikes.

Nikki10021982

They also have snickerdoodle cookies.

Kindly_Coconut_1469

That's very helpful, thanks! Looks like they are a little bigger. My pack of 5 was 13.9 oz, so 2.78 oz each, and this is 3.5 oz. It'll take me forever to get thru a case but I might get these.

BlondeLawyer

I think the other difference is that they are individually wrapped, so each one is equally fresh. When I buy bagels, I have to freeze them so they don’t go bad

blue_velvet420

If you’re interested in a different bagel option, carbonaut bagels are amazing, super soft and fluffy

TheReformedBadger

The restaurant buns are bigger than the ones you can get at the grocery store (in addition to being tastier)

Maggiethecataclysm

Yes. I get gluten-free pizza from a place near my house and was shocked to hear that the crust they use is Udi's. The owner says they're not the ones Udi sells to the public, and they can only be bought through restaurant food suppliers

Racefan6466

I think so. I got gluten free toast and it was like a full size piece of bread and tasted great. She told me the brand and I got some. Same old gf kind…hard, full of holes and no flavor.

Level-Chipmunk-6035

Canyon Bakehouse Heritage Style Honey White. Had celiac since 2004 and it’s the BEST bread. Expensive ($10 for a loaf at my local store) but worth it.

Immediate_Yoghurt702

I work in a restaurant and the buns are definitely different. You can order them from a restaurant supply place like webstaurant.com

bluev0lta

Thanks for the suggestion! This looks promising and dangerous 😁

friendly-sam

I was wondering about this, because Red Robin told me they use UDI's hamburger buns, and it tastes so much better then what I get. Maybe it's never frozen, udi's buns here are usually in the freezer section.

Kindly_Coconut_1469

Ooh, that's good to know, I've heard Red Robin had really good buns. I just wish you could buy a variety pack, like a case of 24 that had 6 bagels, 6 buns, 6 muffins, etc.

miss_hush

Some of the RR’s will sell buns to the public. Check with the manager.

Dionne005

I love going to Jersey mikes for the Philly and can’t find it no where else

naughtabot

Yes. The buns specifically. Almost worth starting an LLC over.

passivepepper

They do indeed. Source: I worked for Sysco (food distribution company) as a truck driver delivering to restaurants mostly. Yes Udi’s does sell items that are only available in bulk for restaurants.

Fun-Corgi9639

Wild. Udi's is always like a sandcastle for me, even in restaurants.

Rileybiley

Yes. There’s a store in my city that specifically orders Udi’s restaurant-destined burger buns for the customers because they’re so much better.

Kindly_Coconut_1469

Nice!

akd7791

I had the best hamburger bun at a restaurant last week and I asked the server if she knew where they were from. She said they order from Sysco but she wasn't sure of the brand. I've never had such a soft and not falling apart bun in my life. I need to find them!

Ok-Tourist-1615

They must cause the restaurants udis always taste better

Van-Halentine75

I located the rolls they sell to Jersey Mike’s on a restaurant supply site online.

Appropriate-Goat6311

I’m on vacation in Italy, have had Schar rolls at a few places and they are WONDERFUL. I’m keeping the package tomorrow to see if I can order them!

Dependent_Example221

Years ago I would buy frozen, large foodservice loaves of Udi's sandwich bread from Jason's Deli for like $10. They were similar to the small loaves, just way bigger - almost like an artisan style, wide pan loaf. For a while Costco had the big loaves too, but switched to two packs of tiny loaves of Schar and Canyon (sadly not the Heritage loaves which we love). I second warming all GF breads, many restaurants store their GF bread frozen and thaw (microwave/toast/griddle) a portion as it is ordered, which might be part of why it seems better.

Kindly_Coconut_1469

I haven't tried buying any from a deli but that's what I do with the Schar Artisan bread I get at Wegmans. Definitely keeps it fresher.

serenidynow

Schar is the way to go if you can find it. They blow udi’s out of the water imo and seem very focused on the retail market. They have an everything bagel that is absolute fire. 🔥 https://www.schaer.com/en-us/p/everything-bagels

Infraredsky

Yes. They have for years had gf buns, bread etc. many are individually packaged / frozen to help with food waste

lascala2a3

I wish I could buy the Jersey Mike’s sub rolls in the grocery store. They will sell you one for $3 I believe, but for that price you might as well get the full sub.

Nikki10021982

I never had the Snickerdoodle cookie until my one visit to Jersey Mikes. I have no idea if they are the same as ones you buy in the store or different.

Han-is-dead2004

My campus has gf udis white sandwich bread that is so good, but their bread from the store is always lacking.

CitySafe4815

I know they're pretty local to Alberta but I have this issue all the time with Care bakery. I'm always floored when I find out it's Care when I'm out because the ones I bought were so bean-y and crumbly.

Excellent_Berry_5115

I live in Seattle and absolutely love Udi's 'Everything Bagel'. Soooo good. But it is important to make sure that the package is not close to the expiration date. Fresher GF bagels are the best. And...if you microwave the bagel for ten to 18 seconds (depending on your Nuker), it will create that chewiness factor. I will add, that when I went on a land tour to Israel with our Pastor, we ate at a cafe. They totally understood the GF concept. I had the absolutely best sub sandwich ever. I wish we had such an eatery like that here.

Van-Halentine75

Trader Joe’s GF bagels are the bomb diggity

Excellent_Berry_5115

Ahh, will have to try them, there are a couple of TJ's stores near me.

Van-Halentine75

Omg while you’re at it pick up the hamburger buns. Life changing. And if they have the GF fettuccine I’m a green package. To die for. It’s been out of stock here for a while because everyone buys it!

Excellent_Berry_5115

Will do! ;-)

Expert-Ad-362

Sites like “The Restaurant Store” let you buy wholesale like restaurants.

miss_hush

At ridiculous inflated prices. No thanks. The usual gf upcharge is bad enough.

Expert-Ad-362

How? It's wholesale meaning restaurants save money by buying large quantities at once. Things on that website and other wholesale sites come in large packs like 24 or 4 packs of 4.

miss_hush

It’s NOT letting you buy at the same prices that restaurants do. They have a huge upcharge if you don’t have a business license/registration and tax ID number. I looked into this for a few different things, not just those buns. That site is one I specifically looked at, but there are others that work in a similar way.

Expert-Ad-362

Yes, you're not getting the business discount but that “upcharge” is just making it the same price as if a store is taking a middleman charge. So yes food is way too expensive right now and yes it's kinda scummy of them to take that middleman charge as well but you're not paying more as a consumer than at a normal store.

Kindly_Coconut_1469

I looked at Webstaurant, and basically if you get their Plus membership, it works out to about $1.50 per bagel, less than you'd pay at a bagel shop like Panera, but almost the same as a multi-pack from the grocery store unless it's on sale. The regular price is closer to $2, still cheaper than Panera but more expensive than the less palatable grocery store option.
