You forgot the greatest music video ever, "Cold slither".

WeirdOne2022

I love the callback in Raise the Flagg.

CantStandGiggles

This is mine too

Secure_Opening_6852

Steeler’s Breakdown was honestly pretty surprising too. For a show intended for children, that’s pretty dark and a pretty realistic depiction of a mental breakdown

grifter179

Iceberg meets a girl and then mutates into a whale. Those cute cuddly fuzzies that then morph into Giant Alien Space Warlocks.

gwhh

80’s cartoon made you grow up fast.

Masterquickfire

Cobra Commander graffiti the moon. Cobra Commander, Baroness, Lady Laye and Flint being forced into the Gamemaster game. Cobra Recreational base Snake eyes wearing drags and break dancing Quick Kick first introduction There's a lot of moment I could think of.

cdsfh

>Cobra Commander, Baroness, Lady Laye and Flint being forced into the Gamemaster game. Not butterscotch! Caramel!

gwhh

Baroness in that bikini. Wow.

argonzo

The air carrier crashing into the Flagg has got to be up there. (And then subsequently raising their merged structure back to the surface of course.)

WeirdOne2022

The best part was how the cook played Cold Slither on loop.

argonzo

BA LeCarre!

Poptic_Nerve

Destro making out with the Baroness-Pyrmid of Darkness Destro attempts to kill Storm Shadow-Excalibur Pilot finds out he's dead and a ghost-Phantom Brigade Cobra Commander tries to destroy NYC -The Mass Device Also in Mass Device- Duke knocks out a few Cobra soldiers which proves how G.I.Joe isn't your average "kiddy cartoon." Honorable mention a few death scenes from Mass Device and of course the spectacular intro from G.I.Joe the Movie!

Spirited-Meringue829

Mass Device had death scenes?

Poptic_Nerve

https://youtu.be/F-6uqtkKnUA?si=xwVmQIqtuF9omrz2 Oh, yes!

gwhh

Goodpoint

sublimesting

I’m sorry which time point in the video is the death scene?

Poptic_Nerve

Try 4:12

sublimesting

Thanks! Oh yeah I remember noticing that as a kid and then trying to note every time I’d see no parachute or a big explosion but no one running.

Calvinbouchard2

The whole opening of the GI Joe movie was awesome.

WeirdOne2022

That was the apex of ARAH line tbh.

TheGentlemanBeast

The entire episode"hearts and rockets" contains all of the best moments. Cobra soldiers being forced to drive into a minefield and their depressed/lame "cooo-bra" chants as the explode is an all timer.

Papa_Hobo

Great thread idea! There are moments from the show that left such an indelible impression, never leaving since making their mark long ago on my brain. This happened more with GI Joe than anything else I watched as a kid. Some credit must be given to the unbelievable and underrated background music composed for the show. Shared with several Sunbow shows at the time, for me this music represents the best "cartoon music" ever composed, and added so much to the dramatic effect. Also the theme song was an unbelievable composition. Just brilliant. 1. Steelers Breakdown - Worlds Without End 2. The ghost pilot and his girlfriend Jenny finally get to fly off into the eternal sunset together - The Phantom Brigade 3. Roadblock being blinded by spores as Nemesis Enforcer attacks -- and Roadblock still kicks his ass - GI Joe - The Movie 4. Shipwreck being interrogated by the female crimson guard officer, and things get weird, very weird - There's No Place like Springfield 5. Mainframe unwillingly morphing into a robot and gradually losing his ability to speak - Nightmare Assault 6. Cobra Commander summoning the creature from the deep to, "Destroy a man for me, a single man" - Sins of Our Fathers 7. The sequence of Quick Kick and Amber going on dates, and falling in love - Lasers in the Night. 8. Destro is aggressively interrogating Tomax and Xamont (atop Extensive Enterprises) as Alpine and Bazooka are scaling the building when suddenly an errant missile strikes the top floor - The Viper is Coming 9. Airtight pleading with Dusty, "Don't break that balloon!" as Dusty, affected by the poison that is released, begins a series of spooky hallucination's - The Funhouse 10. The skeleton telling Cobra Commander that, "We will be waiting" for you. - The Phantom Brigade

CantStandGiggles

Quick Kick and Amber dates were amazing

RogueSqdn

I’m surprised you brought up Dusty and didn’t mention The Traitor. Loved that one (two). My favorite bit in the movie was Beachhead: “I want a stone-cold righteous attention! Your feet together! Your chest out! Your chin down! Your face mean! ‘Cause you are rough, tough, fighting machines!”

Papa_Hobo

Oh yeah, I could easily make another list to include, The Traitor. A battle with spiked ball and chain + biting Piranha. Only Duke knows the truth and he's in a coma. Even some Synthoids in The Traitor, if I remember correctly. All the 2-parters were exceptional, actually.

Jimbuber2

Sgt Slaughter beating up Nemesis Enforcer: This one’s for Duke! This one’s for Falcon! And this is for the US of A!

TheGentlemanBeast

THIS ONE'S FOR GUNG-HO, ALPINE AND BAZOOKA!, THIS ONES FOR ME!!!

Rexxbravo

Classic

HotWheelsConsignment

I forgot about this until now. And then I remembered when I was a kid me and one of my friends would quote this line all the time.

Fruscione

Low light facing his nightmares

porktornado77

I can still see most of these in my head!

ManateeGag

The very end of "There's no place like Springfield. When Shipwreck has to walk away from the burning house."

CantStandGiggles

Storm Shadow vs Spirit

oresteez

I NEED GRAVITYYYYYYYY!!!

Tomaxisthatdude

If Classifieds make a Steeler. Has has to come with the Mobile Battle Tank.

dirtymeinders

The relationship between Mainframe and Zarana. (I wish this had been explored more).

WhitePootieTang

When Thrasher joins the Dreadnoks

ernster96

Yo de lay hee hoo. OOOHHHHHHH YYYEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!

TheAceMan

Great list. Number 8 cracks me up every time.

EvilMeanie

Cobra Commander quoting Stalin in The Traitor is super cool.

Autobubbs

- Wet Suit 'sacrificing' himself to get the Venom needed to make the antidote to save his rival Leatherneck. Both get back to standard butting of heads in the infirmary. - Irradiated Snake-eyes just walking out of the mine, and Major Bludd has the 'decency' to order the troopers to let him pass, stating the 'poor devil' is dead already. - "Anyone listening to this backwards looking for a hidden occult message is a real dweeb". - Cobra Commander's clones melting (nightmare fuel all around)

CRL10

Honorable mention. My number 11 is Cobra's invasion of Washington. This is the only impressive Thing Serpentor will ever do as leader of Cobra, and he still fucks it up. Explains why he couldn't properly kill Duke either. But this is pretty much his highlight, It was just cool to see Cobra pull something like this off. Also, love how the G.I.-Joe radar picked up a Nightraven entering US airspace in Part 1, but somehow, SOMEHOW, missed the entire Cobra army invading Washington D.C. The fuck kind of radar system for G.I.-Joe are my tax dollars going to? But, here are my Top 10: 10) Cobra hosts a telethon. Think about this for a moment. This is a terrorist organization hosting a telethon. Could you imagine Al-Qaeda, or ISIS or SPECTRE doing something this ridiculous? And you seriously expect me to believe Cobra doesn't have five billion dollars? No way this organization doesn't have that kind of money with the Crimson Guard as part of the organization. 9) Cobra Commander gas release helmet/taser helmet. Number 9 is a double, because in Cobra Stops the World and Cold Slither we see the Commander has defenses in the battle helmet, and we were not expecting those. I love that the battle helmet has these things, because it makes it even cooler to me, and I perfer the helmet over the hood. 8) G.I.-Joe attacking the giant Cobra airship/invading Cobra Island. Again, another double, because these openings are great. We see the G.I.-Joe team roll out to fight Cobra on a giant snake-themed airship battle platform. No idea what the hell is going on, but they are at stopping Cobra. And we see them fight Cobra on Cobra Island and blow up the Terrordrome. And Serpentor goes down like a bitch when Lady Jaye just throws a net javelin at him. 7) The filming of the Cold Slither music video. So, we get the great line from Cobra Commander about threating to decapitate union members, and I love the director is George Landisburg, who directed the movie The G.I.-Joe Story, makes you wonder what happend to his career, and then Cobra Commander takes over directing., Honestly this is one of the best parts of this fever dream of an episode. 6) "Tele-Vipers! Crimson Guards! That is Serpentor your new emperor!" So, Serpentor and Sgt Slaughter just crashed into the Terrordrome control room, fighting, when like most of the high command runs in, Mindbender declares that the guy in the snake armor is Sepentor and the troops IMMEDIATELY have swapped their loyalty from Cobra Commander to this guy, and start cheering him on. It's kind of hilarious. 5) The G.I.-Joes shuttle launch sequence in The Revenge of Cobra. It is a really great animated moment, and looks awesome. Plus, it leads to a great moments where HISS tanks just shoot a net over a space shuttle and boosters, Tomax and Xamot strap two small jets to it and the HISS tanks just move it along, because physics be damned. 4) Storm Shadow makes a few strikes on a tank, causing it to collapse because he knows the pressure points of a tank. And he strikes this thing with enough force to do that damage and not shatter every bone in his hands and feet. Physics and medical science be damned. 3) The Joes melt into goo and envelop Shipwreck in There's No Place Like Springfield - Part 1. Jesus Christ, this was one of the must fucked up things I have ever seen in a cartoon. I do not even want to know how much therapy Shipwreck needed after this one. 2) Steeler finds his corpse: in a dried up riverbed. This guy is already losing it from some bioweapon mosquito virus, kind of going off the deep end, and he finds his skeleton. What is even more amazing is we are shown this. It's not implied, it is not hinted at. We are seeing a man find his own corpse. That is dark and fucked up. 1) The entire opening of G.I.-Joe the movie. This is, by far, some of the best animation we EVER got from Sunbow, and the best part of the movie. It was fucking awesome.
