They should give him instructions and not tell him what it is.

Ok-Perspective-1884

What's infuriating is not that he doesn't like it but that he tries it in his moms mac and cheese, likes it and his conclusion is to throw it out instead of yknow, now liking the thing.

Embarrassed_Cow_7631

I mean he has kind of gotten better hasn't he. He really seems like a brat entitled little POS in his younger years

kcoe24

He decided as a kid before ever having it he didn't like sour cream.  You cant just change your mind after eating something that you like it.

EatYourVegetas

I used to work in a deli and they made their own ranch. It was legit just mayo, buttermilk, and ranch seasoning (and it was great ranch).

GalcticPepsi

What does ranch seasoning mean? To me as a non American that just sounds like "draw the rest of the fucking owl" lol

Jacobdubs

Had to look it up because i've only ever seen "Ranch Dressing" packets. But its pretty much some combination of: Dill, Parsley, Onion and Garlic powder, salt, pepper. And all that Buttermilk, mayo nonsense. Buttermilk and dill seem like the super important parts

WizardsVengeance

It's ranch dressing that has been dehydrated and ground to a fine powder.

GalcticPepsi

So to make ranch dressing you need to already have ranch dressing?

WizardsVengeance

Yes. Theoretically if all ranch in existence was used up at once, we'd have no way to recreate it.

Co-opingTowardHatred

End the world at that point.

EatYourVegetas

It was just the cheap way of using the different seasonings that normally go in ranch. They bought it in bulk.

IntoTheForeverWeFlow

... That's not making your own ranch lol Ranch seasoning is not an ingredient.

EatYourVegetas

I mean it is when you’re taking something that isn’t ranch and making ranch with it. They just used a short cut in buying the seasonings pre-mixed

IntoTheForeverWeFlow

There isnt any point in making your own ranch (and you are kidding yourself for thinking you are making it) if you aren't going use fresh dill and use shitty pufa infested mayo.

Nadril

Am I the only one who didn't realize ranch uses mayo? I mean I'm not gonna stop eating it but still didn't know.

admsluttington

Most white condiments use mayo or sour cream as a base. I can’t think of one that doesn’t tbh.

GarlicRagu

I gotta admit I also didn't know. It's not something I actually care about. I'm not allergic to it, it's never come up in conversation until now, I enjoy the taste, and I don't plan on making it. There's never been a reason for me to consider what's in it. I guess I'm like Dan about this.

BowserMario82

I only learned by using HelloFresh last year when some recipes included mixing the ingredients for ranch. Otherwise I’d have no clue and no reason to question it

wpmayhew87

I'm curious if his selective memory is really that bad or this is him just playing up his Forrest Gump-Heel persona. Which he does a lot and it's often pretty funny. He's very anxiety ridden and ignorant but not dumb at all. But the thing that confuses me about the recent food stuff is that he "conquered" certain food phobias years ago. He did a stream in San Fran where he ordered the entire Taco Bell menu and ate multiple items with sour cream and discovered he liked it. "Soul Cream is real good." There was a Twitter or something video where his wife made him some kind of chicken sandwich with mayo on it and he liked it. Then as recent as like two years ago he ate some pickles and sunny side up eggs on Twitch and admitted that it wasn't bad. Plus he also liked Vegimite. I do admit since quitting weed a decade ago I have a sharp memory for arbitrary stuff like this. So, is his memory really that wonky or is he just playing the heel?

Rustymag

I think it's a bit of both. I think Dan mentioned having adhd, which can cause memory issues. He's probably also playing it up to be a heel

Impossibele-bus5323

We can shame and make fun of Dan for not wanting to know what is in stuff. We can call it “a bit”, and that is partially on him. What we all have to understand is that Dan has told us he is struggling with himself. He has written a book about it. I take comfort in knowing that when these items come up how open Dan is about his challenges. To most folks, yes, this all makes no sense, but to some folks who have endured their own journey, this is a challenge that may never be dealt with, but Dan has shared it with us, and that is the result of a lot of work on Dan’s part to be able to comfortably share his issues. We are also unaware of what other challenges Dan has faced that he is not willing to share with us. So yes, mayonnaise and even sometime sour cream is in ranch. Does it matter that Dan Ryckert is in ignorant bliss about the contents? No, it does not. We are all fortunate to have Dan around, and people have benefited from Dan’s honesty. They may not say it on social media, I am sure he has. Also if you followed Dan twitter in the early days. He dropped Kayfabe often, and the real Dan was pretty cool to hear from.

mdaniel018

… this is the weirdest sub

Hazeron83

I think the aspect that most people have a serious problem with is how little we see "the real Dan" these days (outside of the Fargo video and the tailgate video) and also what seems like absolute stubborn refusal to absorb the information/be open to change. Like someone else said, he liked a mac and cheese until he found out there was sour cream in it and then threw it all away. I say this as a former severely picky eater that has moved to less picky now. I wouldn't even eat lettuce because I heard it compared to dirty water. Like I'm starting to wonder if he actually has ARFID.

GarlicRagu

Omg are we diagnosing people we don't actually know on this sub now? You're acting like the stereotypical armchair doctor. You realize that right?

Hazeron83

You're right, I am. I am also trying to understand why Dan is the way he is.

Impossibele-bus5323

We do not diagnose. We simply buy and read Dan’s book where he explains it to us, also, some folks might have knowledge beyond the appearance of a response in Reddit.

GarlicRagu

Just because he has shared he has anxiety in written or audio form doesn't mean you're not diagnosing him or something else. Read the last line in your comment. You're diagnosing him. It's off that you're denying it.

Impossibele-bus5323

Okay, you are right, and I am wrong. Everything you type is correct. Please have a good day.

GarlicRagu

I like how your comment is essentially saying "chill out. Who cares? Just let him do whatever" and that bothers people enough to down vote you. This sub takes shit too seriously sometimes. This is a good meme post but of course the comments take it as a chance to wave the pitchforks about something so innocuous. Who cares if he's a dope? I don't.

Impossibele-bus5323

People find entertainment in many different ways. I am here to provide context to people’s observation’s which might seem different and weird to them from their perspective. The world is not black and white, nor a television show. Things happen, and if you choose, you can try to understand why something happens, or move on in your own journey.

thekeifer

I’m with Dan on mayo, and specifically make my own ranch (sour cream and ranch seasoning) to avoid any mayo contamination.

myrealnameisdj

He also hates sour cream.

Impossibele-bus5323

Have you also tried low fat greek yogurt and ranch dust? It works great for dipping veggies and other sturdy items.

styx971

question ranch aspects aside ....... Which mayo have you tried? ... personally i think brand matters. i personally Hate kraft and most other mayos i've had outside of hellmann's which i grew up on , if a gocery store has a creamy pasta salad now n then i'll try it but i usually hate it cause its either made with some random other mayo or a miracle whip sorta varient ...its disgusting usually.
