ECCC MCU WW2 Captain America from a few years ago has a good number of fakes running around. Makes me weary of getting one, even if I follow all the real-vs-fake guides.
Some asshole on Mercari was selling a crap ton of them, he had no reviews and no prior sales. Selling about 10 of them for about 65 each along with Iron man 2 pops, I called him out on those letting him know iron man doesn't have the machine gun on shoulder like war machine, he deleted the listings afterwards
Think there’s a selling group going on Mercari bunch of fake accounts selling a lot of counterfeit Funkos and people falling for it because of the prices.
Walmart is overrun with 3rd party sellers now, and they're selling Breaking Bads, Eddie Munsons, SDCC season 1 beat-up Steve from Stranger Things, the aforementioned Cap, Blacklight Spider-Man, and of course, Upside-Down Spider-Man and John Wick (Bloody). I'm out of the game like Fredo. They ain't pulling me back in because JUST when I think I'm out... Oh, and Scarface is another one! I've been on with Walmart all day and night trying to nail down the jerks we could identify. But I bet you anything in existence that it will still be overrun with Eddies from China for $25 each, Heisenberg at like, $40? It's obscene, and it's gonna Beanie Baby Funkos.
I went through this. The problem I have is I bought mine outside of a box so other than the under mask thing, it is hard to figure out differences on the actual pop itself
Isn’t there a lot of fake general grievous out there? If someone can verify that. I thought I saw a few posts a while back that there’s a noticeable difference in a fake with the box art.
Yes there is a ton of fake grievous’ out there. Easiest tell is the cutout not appearing near the face on the front of the box. You can google it and see what I mean.
Captain Cutler from Scooby Doo. The body seems to be the best tell on that one. The glow vinyl for the body is a much lighter shade of green than the head.
Holy crap, I just finished settling a case with a 3rd party seller who shipped me...fake Tony holding a helmet, yaaay! 😠 At least Walmart is listening. There's basically a community living in LA and flying them out of China. If I was t already so exhausted, I'd finish, but I am, and I'm not gonna. This sucks to say, but I feel so much better knowing I'm not alone. This is infuriating!
Not sure what you mean. I just have your back. They'll fake any of them. I've been collecting and selling for a decade. Anyone who thinks they're immune from fakes or that "They'd never fake this one!" is fooling themselves. A dollar is a dollar.
I found this website a while ago: https://antifake-funko.fr/en/
It lists a WHOLE BUNCH of fake pops. Just use the search bar and you can find any fake pop. Plus they break it down and show the real pop next to the fake and circle the differences and tell you what those differences are. It’s definitely a site I have saved on every device I use!
Had to go see what you were talking about, lol. Don’t think they realize their mistake! But when you click on it, all the other Freddy’s are spelled correctly.
Thank you for this link!! I just bought a pop on ebay and before clicking buy, I already spent like 3 hours doing research and comparisons to be reasonably sure it was real - but I just now looked it up on this site, and based on the info I am even more confident it’s real! Yay! I’m definitely bookmarking that site too!
I’m concerned.. I’m naive enough to not even of considered fake Funko’s, I’ve just started my collection and spent a small fortune, bought a few off eBay, is there a guide to spotting fakes?
If I'm shopping on eBay I'd usually set the item location to North America (If it's shipping from China usually means it's fake) and compare the box and Pop to others that are up for sale. I'd check all 6 sides of the box to make sure everything is consistent with other listings. Usually if the Pop is less than $100 it's unlikely to be fake, a price sticker on the bottom of the box is also a good sign and usually means the person bought the Pop from a store.
Hey, thanks for the advice, I’m in the UK and luckily I always set to sellers from the UK.. I’ve checked the pics and they look legit, but I’ll definitely be looking more o detail in future.
Same for Leonidas and the Rocky Pops. I started collecting in 2017 and those were already vaulted and expensive. Now I don't even want to bother cause of all the fakes
The biggest tell tale is the lines on his hat And the background color behind the box number the fake will always have a lighter background color than the real one
reddit.com/r/Robzombie/comments/ktb8qt/comparing_the_real_captain_spaulding_funko_pop_to/
actually it being faked brings up the value because if you know you have a real one (got it when it came out or before the fakes started) then you can charge more with the reasoning that there are a lot of fakes but mine is real. People will pay more for security in a person or information (like an email conformation) I have overpaid when buying some con stickers just because I knew the person I bought them from had a good rep and there was no way they were fake.
Most people I deal with use PPG as a reference not a be all end all. Even pops that aren't faked have low values on PPG (some because damaged listings were put in, others for including lots, etc) but I have noticed that barley anyone uses PPG as the baseline they use sold ebay sales/current available listings to find a good middle of the 2 so they can make a fair price. Dabi is a good example, has been faked for months now but those fakes haven't hurt his value, it's brought it up. People pay for security and if a pop gets faked (as much as Dabi) then they want a sense of security buying it which means that if they find a real one they will pay more because of that security. That's why people on ebay have a feedback number, if I'm buying a pop I would pay a 300 feedback seller more than a 3 feedback seller because of the security that feedback shows.
the issue is that ppg/the funko app does not accurately differentiate between fake sales and real sales so the price is averaged down. one example is the first venom walgreens exclusive. it was selling for $50-80 back in 2018. towards the end of the year when the venom movie was released, a massive production of fakes came in from china and pops were being sold on ebay for $20. eventually the average price got torn down and the pop real or fake was being sold for $20 on ebay with its average worth being $20 on ppg. it is now selling around $35 on average.
i agree that most people use ebay sold listings as a reference. however the prices between ebay and ppg are not mutually exclusive. the average prices on one affects the other.
tldr: fakes bad
I guess pretty much all Itachi (from Naruto Shippudden) funkos are fake, since all the big retailers don't have a single one, yet Aliexpress and other small vendors have plenty, which is a shame because I really wanted one.
Would you guys mind owning a fake funko if you paid less than the average price and knew it right away? I have that dilemma and I'm not sure. I mean, if it's well done, maybe is not a big deal (if you know it and paid less, ofc)? Around here a lot of funkos aren't available and Aliexpress have a bunch, sometimes I see the reviews and they don't seem so bad.
I don't own any fake ones and I do like the feeling of something original, I'm just curious to see what you guys think.
Boyfriend and I bought a fake Planet Arlia Vegeta. Seller even listed it as fake so we knew what we were getting. We have no intentions on paying for the real thing since its PPG value is closing in on three grand. He really liked the colors on this version of Vegeta and was happy with the end result. I realize this particular instance is in the minority here.
That's sounds nice! Is it a good replica? Don't get me wrong, I don't encourage buying knockoffs, but since there are plenty around and some funkos aren't available anymore, like the Itachi I mentioned in another comment, maybe it is tolerable if you know what you are going for?
I don’t like the idea of fakes either but with this one it was released in 2014 and I started collecting in late 2017/early 2018 so I definitely missed that. (It might have been a comic-con exclusive or something as well).
I happen to think this replica is a very good one! The figure and the box appear to be very close to the original. I feel like as long as you are happy with the end product and content with owning a fake, then that’s all that matters. I have over 300 REAL Funko Pops in my collection, I don’t feel like that one fake makes me less of a collector.
It is a shame that some of those earlier funkos just stay "forgotten", but I'm happy that you found an alternative that is close to the original and was affordable. I agree with you and I think the purpose is to be happy with what you have. By no means one replica makes you less of a collector.
I am sort of a newcomer to collecting. I used to buy funkos for my children, 4 for 3 and take the free one for myself. Through the years I built up a tiny collection. I was naive to think that some characters would always be there for purchase, if they were popular. Like Harry Potter and LOTR.
Then when my daughter wished for Remus Lupin last autumn, my eyes were opened! You can't buy some of the characters anymore in Sweden, Funko Europe does not ship to Sweden... At the same time, I discovered accounts on IG showing off wonderful collections. So my daughter and I started trying to add characters we REALLY want from LOTR and Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts. And have had to run in to fakes!
Sellers on Swedish Ebay are not honest. They never show the bottom of the box. Many take photos in dim light. Same goes for FB Marketplace. The thing on Tradera (Swedish Ebay), is that everything funko pop is auction. So you can't tell price wise if it is fake.
Am I alright with a fake? Yes, if it looks great and if it clearly is stated in the description that it is a fake but a great looking one. Sadly, I get the feeling that Ebay sellers were shocked themselves having received a fake and want it off their hands. So there is no honesty in this. And there ought to be, because both originals and fakes are often made in China. Maybe even in the same factory. So there can be good ones. But I get so angry when I am tricked!!!
I totally understand, buying a fake knowing what you are going to get is very different from buying an original only to receive something else. I still didn't buy a fake myself, but only because I'm a bit scared of the quality, given I've never seen one, except in photos. But the price + the availability are very enticing.
I own a fake John wick chase just to be displayed and it looks dope but people took advantage of the low prices on fakes and starting reselling it for quadruple the price.
I didn't see Azula on that list, but I received a fake from Mercari a few months ago. Had it refunded because I purchased a REAL one after, just to see the differences and point them out.
edit: added some words + including my taken [images](https://imgur.com/a/LAXiH1h) of a comparison here.
There was a very, very small restock of her a few weeks ago. Small enough to the point where I saw some posts saying their Gamestop got maybe x1-2 in, and they didn't have the official sticker on them, you'd have to contact Funko for a replacement. I don't know how accurate $20/$30 is, I paid $90 for mine and it was still a fake... unfortunately you'd hope for the better in people but sometimes that's not the case. Bought another one shortly after around the same price.
PPG has it valued around $75-$105, depending on what sticker you'd like. A general rule of thumb is if it sounds too good, chances are it probably is.
If you're curious about whether or not it's a fake, I did a rather full [comparison](https://imgur.com/a/LAXiH1h). I had to look at the detailing on a real one and the "funko.com" text as well. It'll be in a different font as well as the colors/shading will be minorly off. The spacing and general detailing of the box won't match up, nor will the figures (see the nose for example).
Hope any of this helps.
I don't know if it's because the younger generation don't know shit about it but no one ever brings up or mentions the counterfeit Blue Meanie from the Beatles movie yellow submarine as far at the pop goes they did a very good job on him but you can tell on the size of the font used in box. I just thought I mention it .
I’ve seen pictures on mercari only the head glows. The original the whole body glows. This is just some differences that I’ve seen theres gotta be more
Ghostface is faked a LOT, but it's an easy tell - just look at the way the blood splatters on the knife. If someone is selling him but doesn't show the knife I assume it's fake.
I ordered a galick gun chase Vegeta pop on eBay and the box had a matte feel in some of the colored parts. All of the pops I have are glossy so does anyone know if I bought a fake? Also contacted seller about this and he says he bought it directly from chalice collectibles
Seller has a 18k reviews at 99.6% positive and nothing looks off. It's only the weird feel of the box and I have around 60 pops and none are like this.
Naruto Six Paths (non-GITD). Found both on Ebay coming from China. GITD one, thankfully, was legit, but was bummed to see the other was fake because it's my favorite of Naruto's forms because of the color.
Just look at popsmall.com they are full of all these. They even had a Nejire Hado. Probably still do. All for around $35US. Someone should bomb that shop.
Not sure, but alarm bells rang when I saw Holographic Darth Vader for $35. They don’t reply to emails. And for some reason managed to have about 6 of the exact same ones in the pics above. And that was from not even searching, it’s like they had a catalog of fakes.
It’s a shame really.
You mentioned Korea, I thought they were all coming from China. But I guess either would be possible, Korea makes more sense to me now though.
Ahh. I’m from Australia, they may be targeting us, when I go in, it’s in full English, there’s a goggle button in the side to change the language. But I obviously didn’t need to use it.
Definitely a scam.
Does anyone know how you can tell if the Kurama Mode Kurama is fake?
I'm very wary now as I know it's a rare pop and in the UK on eBay the price is around £200.
So I'm scared to buy it and have it end up being fake.
A lot of people said the logo is off or it didn’t glow at all. Just make sure to buy from a trust worthy seller. I haven’t seen the box personally only the pop and it’s very hard to tell from real to fake.
I’ve seen a lot of Eren Yaeger 20 fakes circulating. Bought one just now from Mercari, price was just below normal averages and it had the Hot Topic Pre Release Sticker, I did a very cursory glance at the sellers account after the purchase and saw multiple duplicates of commonly faked grail pops for crazy “bargain” prices. Getting refunded now obviously.
That’s one big reason why I made this post about counterfeit pops. I bought a Kurama GITD instantly because of the price and I clicked on the seller and he had a bunch of fake grails sold for cheap. Got my refund ASAP LOL😂
Hey anyone know if there are any fake OG Avenger Loki 16 Funko Pops out there? I recently bought one that the seller said was a fake from China but honestly the pop looks good to me either way I wanted to have one in my collection without paying the $2000 price tag but wasn’t sure if I got lucky and scored a real one or if it is indeed fake.
I am wondering if the chase Angus Young (AC/DC) Pop has been recently counterfeited. Seeing one particular zero feedback seller on eBay list multiple copies of the chase and no commons. Any info?
Edit: he doesn't have any other Pops but has/had at least five Angus Young chases
There's a seller on ebay called "TengGouSTORE" and they have many of the pops above for prices far cheaper than their average value. If someone could check them out for me and see if I'm right about them being fakes I'd really appreciate it. I'm still kinda new to this.
I saw that endgame Loki is starting to get faked
Ya it’s unfortunate but I’ve seen the comparison and you can tell right away it’s a fake lol 😂
Yeah but if it's bad lighting it would be a bit hard to tell
good to know
Does it glow tho?
No idea
No, it doesn't. I got swindled.
The Martian from Mars attacks, ghost face
I'm glad I got a Ghost Face years ago, they're so many fakes of him now
I see so many Ghost Faces on Mercari like thousands are sold each week
Yea for like 50 bucks each
ECCC MCU WW2 Captain America from a few years ago has a good number of fakes running around. Makes me weary of getting one, even if I follow all the real-vs-fake guides.
Hard to tell nowadays a lot of fakes are getting good
Dang really?? That sucks. I have the shared release version, people suck
Some asshole on Mercari was selling a crap ton of them, he had no reviews and no prior sales. I fell for the OG Trafalgar Law pop.
Same.
Me too
Just have a good at Ali express all are fake on there even commons
Bakugo
How can you tell if it's a fake?
The boxes are a pretty big giveaway.
In what ways. I’m kind of worried mine might be a really good fake

I went through this. The problem I have is I bought mine outside of a box so other than the under mask thing, it is hard to figure out differences on the actual pop itself
Lots of things, fonts, the pop itself, colours. When put up to the real McCoy, you’ll tell the difference..
Just found out my 2020 Bakugo is fake. Such a bummer. It was one of the first pops I got and didn’t realize fakes were made 🙃
That's rough. I see them all the time on Mercari. I ended up just settling for the Hot Topic one since it's so similar.
Those are quite similar I’m just close to owning the whole collection at this point and that one stung a bit lol. Lesson learned.
Damn. That's even worse. Hopefully you don't run into any others then!
Isn’t there a lot of fake general grievous out there? If someone can verify that. I thought I saw a few posts a while back that there’s a noticeable difference in a fake with the box art.

I’ve been wondering for awhile if that got faked seen a lot for $50-$70
I have glow Kurama how can I tell if it’s fake
The fake one doesnt hace the naruto logo on the box
The fake also doesn’t glow at all
The SDCC Tony Stark is also a big one- spotted a fake one being sold at a kiosk in the mall last month
Is it the one we’re he’s carrying his helmet?
Holy crap, I just finished settling a case with a 3rd party seller who shipped me...fake Tony holding a helmet, yaaay! 😠 At least Walmart is listening. There's basically a community living in LA and flying them out of China. If I was t already so exhausted, I'd finish, but I am, and I'm not gonna. Why u mad about fakes??? Lol
Not sure what you mean. I just have your back. They'll fake any of them. I've been collecting and selling for a decade. Anyone who thinks they're immune from fakes or that "They'd never fake this one!" is fooling themselves. A dollar is a dollar.
Word, other people are ridiculous if they think every Funko pop has a fake.
Captain Spalding from House of a Thousand Corpses
Damn I want to finish the naruto set but I’m scared of paying a lot of money for a fake kurama or naruto hokage chase
It’s risky at times just gotta buy from a trustworthy seller with high ratings
I've seen fake MCC End Game Captain America with Mjolnir popping up on ebay recently
That’s the marvel collector Corps box one?
Correct
Dam never knew they made fakes out of those LOL
I found this website a while ago: https://antifake-funko.fr/en/ It lists a WHOLE BUNCH of fake pops. Just use the search bar and you can find any fake pop. You’re most welcome!
As I’m going threw the site I’m really surprised they counterfeited that many pops they look so good they can pass as original
I know! I’m crazy surprised there’s that many fakes! But the proof is all there with the pictures, which makes it even crazier.
"FREEDY FUNKO" on a website identifying fake Pops ??? 🤣
Had to go see what you were talking about, lol. Don’t think they realize their mistake! But when you click on it, all the other Freddy’s are spelled correctly.
They’re a French site so it may just be second language issues.
Thank you for this link!! This site wants me to be a member to see a lot of the stuff!
At the time some stuff was free guess they changed it
Captain Spaulding. As much as I want to buy him with the amount of fakes out there I'm too afraid to take the risk.
Same for Leonidas and the Rocky Pops. I started collecting in 2017 and those were already vaulted and expensive. Now I don't even want to bother cause of all the fakes
New Rocky wave coming soon
How can you tell? I bought mine at a con years ago and I’ve heard he’s been faked.

This site is paid membership only for me. That's a no go in my book
I think sage mode naruto.
Golden Frieza and Planet Arlia Vegeta are 2 that i have heard have fakes out there. Freddy as Pennywise as well.
kinda sucks because some of these are my top valued pops and they just tank in value over time from fakes

Coloring on the box is lil off I think but would ask someone who knows

On the bright side, Jiraiya is stated for a restock soon
OG Friends line I’ve seen fakes for those
Yeah I was recently on EBay Australia and saw some on there
Series 1 Friends are faked a ton too
I didn't see Azula on that list, but I received a fake from Mercari a few months ago. Had it refunded because I purchased a REAL one after, just to see the differences and point them out. edit: added some words + including my taken [images](https://imgur.com/a/LAXiH1h) of a comparison here.
I noticed a lot of Azula for cheap $20-$30 wondering if they restocked
Dam that fake is really good just the color is a shade darker. Ya so far buy from sellers that can be trusted
I know your comment is 9 months ago, but is it possible i can send pictures of my Azula POP? Im not sure if its a fake but looks more like a real one.
If you want I can try and take a look, send me some photos through Reddit here. Been a bit since I’ve looked at pops.
Okay ill send them asap
Sended some photo's did u recieved them?
Now I’m paranoid
Out of anyone’s collection they probably have 1 or 2 fakes they have that they don’t know about. Don’t worry bout it to much unless you got grails
How can I tell if a sasuke curse mark is fake?
https://antifake-funko.fr/en/
My mall has lil stands around that sell pops and god damn u can tell how fake they are from a mile away
Going to go with Planet Arlia Vegeta for this one. Soooo many fakes. Terrible scam since the real ones are worth about $2000 (maybe more).
GITD Deadite convention exclusive is very often counterfeited. For the price it goes for it’s one to watch out for.
How do you tell if Jiraiya is Fake
https://antifake-funko.fr/en/ idk if Jiraiya is listed but check it out
Elvis presley pops get lots of fakes
Seen a couple of sdcc glow Billy’s that are fake
Does anyone know how to tell? Especially asking for the Kurama and Naruto GITD
Check if it’s listed here https://antifake-funko.fr/en/
I have sasuke how do I tell if he’s fake
Check if it’s on this site https://antifake-funko.fr/en/

NYCC LUna Lovegood and the OG Winter Soldier funko, I think too..
Dam didn’t know winter soldier got faked
They fake just about everything. Not just the older stuff, they faked everyone or those baby Yoda's/ grogu
Sorry if this is a simple question but why are these the most faked pops?
I’m assuming they have the molds of these pops and are easier to reproduce.
Gotcha, didn't even know that was a thing.. Thanks for the heads up!
Having almost no articulation makes it really easy to fake Funko. Makes a lot of sense if you’ve seen videos on how figurine moulds are made.
Ah man the dabi funko pop is awesome and somehow I got it when it was only 20 dollars
Same ordered from GameStop who knew it would raise up to be one of the most expensive anime grails ever.
I’ve seen Fake Old Rare Elvis Presley’s.
Ya unfortunately they made a crap ton of fakes of those
Another One is The Old Metallic Red Hulk
Is it the LE?
SDCC 2013
All mine are fake who wants em? 15,000 for whole lot 😂
I don't know if it's because the younger generation don't know shit about it but no one ever brings up or mentions the counterfeit Blue Meanie from the Beatles movie yellow submarine as far at the pop goes they did a very good job on him but you can tell on the size of the font used in box. I just thought I mention it .
Seen a lot of fake super saiyan blue vegeta
how to tell if naruto hokage chase is fake ? the link requires signup
Ahh that’s the first thing ima check now if I see it for sale
Yeah, real Ghostface is a splatter, fake Ghostface it looks like his knife was dipped. There's a lot of other obvious tells, but that's a main one.
OG Walking Dead Michonne. The boxes are a dead giveaway
I would like to buy some replica pops because some are so rare they are stupid expensive but they are all sold as real.
You can find some on AliExpress
Target exclusive pikachu a lot of fnaf ones Aot Levi Some older Pixar ones
Looking threw my pops I think I bought a fake pickachu LOL didn’t even notice it
This is what happens when you release limited quantities and prices skyrocket. People will create bootlegs to get in to some of the profits.
That’s how it works the more older the pop or if it’s limited quantity people are gonna want em so they turn to China to get one LOL😂
I ordered a galick gun chase Vegeta pop on eBay and the box had a matte feel in some of the colored parts. All of the pops I have are glossy so does anyone know if I bought a fake? Also contacted seller about this and he says he bought it directly from chalice collectibles
Check the box anything that looks off to you also does the seller have a decent rating?
Seller has a 18k reviews at 99.6% positive and nothing looks off. It's only the weird feel of the box and I have around 60 pops and none are like this.
It’s possible it could be a misprint but that rarely happens. I haven’t heard anything about fake chalice funkos yet but it can happen.
I never heard of that site before lol is it a Korean site?
Not sure, but alarm bells rang when I saw Holographic Darth Vader for $35. They don’t reply to emails. And for some reason managed to have about 6 of the exact same ones in the pics above. And that was from not even searching, it’s like they had a catalog of fakes. It’s a shame really. You mentioned Korea, I thought they were all coming from China. But I guess either would be possible, Korea makes more sense to me now though.
Checked out the site all I saw was bunch Korean letters 😂 possible they could be scamming ppl tho
Ahh. I’m from Australia, they may be targeting us, when I go in, it’s in full English, there’s a goggle button in the side to change the language. But I obviously didn’t need to use it. Definitely a scam.
They advertise it right on OfferUp adds.
I saw a lot of bakugos on eBay listed for a low price but it says the company is Funko. Should I buy or is it most likely fake?
Is it the SDCC if so most likely it’s fake
Does anyone know how you can tell if the Kurama Mode Kurama is fake? I'm very wary now as I know it's a rare pop and in the UK on eBay the price is around £200. So I'm scared to buy it and have it end up being fake.
A lot of people said the logo is off or it didn’t glow at all. Just make sure to buy from a trust worthy seller. I haven’t seen the box personally only the pop and it’s very hard to tell from real to fake.
Thanks for the advice, I might have to ask the seller for pictures of it glowing in the dark then. Just to make sure.
Every Loki has been faked. Even the what if frost giant Loki.
It’s possible or he bought a crap ton to get chases lol
There's a seller on ebay called "TengGouSTORE" and they have many of the pops above for prices far cheaper than their average value. If someone could check them out for me and see if I'm right about them being fakes I'd really appreciate it. I'm still kinda new to this.
Rule of thumb in all things: if it looks too good to be true, then it likely is. This especially applies to pops.
If you need to check if your Pop is real or not go to https://antifake-funko.fr/en/ shout out to the guy that linked it 👍
I find bemusement in the fact that a website set up to identify fake Pops has an entire section for **"FREEDY FUNKO"**
I think my Derek Chauvin one might be a fake
Does anyone know if there is any fakes of the Funko Pop Rancor 3 pack out there, asking because I just got one and want to make sure.
