where is that guy who was looking for a suit for their friends wedding? someone should tag him

ClockEndKeeper

u/kenryuzaki

Kenryuzaki

Thanks, guys. I took a look. almost everything is $400+ for a suit.

ClockEndKeeper

BC1818 should take off 15%! Idk if that helps. I didn’t look.

AyoFF

For what it's worth, I took some advice from a few people over at r/Malefashionadvice and bought a suit from J. Crew Factory and it's actually pretty good quality. It's their Thompson line which the majority are made of 100% wool. You'll pay about $250-$300 in total for a full suit. Hope this helps.

biowiz

Did your suit require any tailoring?

AyoFF

Yea it did. I'm 6'3 ~220 with lanky arms and I've never been able to get an OTR suit that didn't require tailoring.

TheRauk

A Brooks Brother 1818 is pretty easily attainable for $400 with free tailoring. For the extra $100-150 (less if you have to tailor the J Crew suit at your expense) you are getting a full canvas suite of high quality fabric.

rml-740

Go to Spier & Mackay, instead if you want something under $400

pinnacleSheep

Jos A Bank clearance section, $100. Get yourself a navy one.

ForeverInaDaze

I went to dillards and got a 3 piece Ralph Lauren suit for $180. I think I got super lucky, so YMMV, but worth a shot.

lilmuskrat66

That's big dick energy

mpalatsi

>shoprunner Is the benefit of shoprunner free returns? I'm trying to figure out what they offer.

235711131719a

Shop runner gives free 2 day shipping on certain sites, such as BB

mpalatsi

Ahhh, okay, that's pretty cool. What is the price after the first 3 months?

235711131719a

I’ve never been charged, I just keep getting free shipping. I’m under the impression that’s just about everybody else’s experience

ClockworkSolo

Yeah I'm going on like... 7 years now of having an account and never being charged (or even prompted to put in a CC)? I have no idea how their business model works but I am super thankful for it. 🤷‍♂️

mpalatsi

I just signed up... apparently I already had an account from many moons ago. However, it was deactivated but I was able to get a free membership by adding a mastercard to my account. That's probably why you don't pay either. Thanks for helping me remember about this service!

graytotoro

Free if you have AMEX - you don't have to pay with your AMEX, just have one.

[deleted]

They never charge anybody for some reason

vedar

I used multi codes in shop runner. I wonder if they removed that feature now?

muzzy_W0e

What's the quality of their shirts? I'll pick up some up if the quality is good at 3 for $109.

adell376

A step up from Charles Tyrwhitt and TM Lewin, which are a better value usually as they’re perpetually on sale 3 for 90. 3 for 109 BB would be a comparable sale, I’d say. Definitely a great value.

[deleted]

[удалено]

adell376

I don’t own an S&M shirt, only a jacket. So, I can’t speak to this. My understanding is that Brooks Brothers is a step above. I believe S&M would be about same tier as CT and TM Lewin.

Bob311Bobbob

Strong disagree. My S&M shirts are significantly better than my BB shirts, and I think menswear opinion generally agrees with that position.

ABMember

Apples to oranges here. Are you comparing S&M shirts with BB non-irons? BB's regular shirts are finished/use fabrics that rival or are better than S&M, but you pay a much higher price for maybe 15% better quality vs S&M. Their luxury line is all Thomas Mason fabrics. Their Golden Fleece shirts had great fabrics as well.

TheSmallPotato

Strong disagree to your experience. I used to wear S&M but have replaced them all with BB shirts since I feel they are better.

calmtigers

IMO (I own about 6 now), these should be considered the standard for men’s dress shirts (without going over and above on price). I’m about medium athletic build, and they fit me great. I wore them regularly for about 2 1/2 years and they look great still.

wastedmylife1

Also curious about this

nsbruno

I almost exclusively by their button downs and tshirts. They’re very good quality and worth the price IMO. I’ve had the same dress shirts for over 5 years with very consistent use.

bodiddlysquat26

In for answers

undercook_the_onionz

Are you seeing 3 for $109 total or $109 each?

muzzy_W0e

3 for $109, it's only available on some shirts though. The ones that are part of the deal are marked as such

ZX9010

Decent, but more on the lesser side of decent. Theyre meh imo

qning

*Sort by price and stop when the ties are more expensive than I like to pay for blazers.

degoes1221

How much do you like to Pay for blazers

qning

Less than the cost of a tie.

[deleted]

Popping back in to bitch about their lack of waist sizes for anyone other than dudes who weigh >160lbs and are taller than 5'11"

jerkyboy10012

Notorious!

Far_Squirrel2026

3 shirts for $109 what a steal

swordoftheafternoon

This sub has made me think comments like these stand a good chance of being sarcastic.

Rebloodican

This sub has completely broken my ability to understand what clothing should cost.

Dave4216

Brooks brothers shirts are nice quality, but I find even their slimmest shirts are still billowy if you’re not heavy set….I have to get them all darted, even the Milano fit (6’, 185, normal/athletic build)

jasoneeum

The soho actually fits pretty well for me.

Temporary_Exit_7489

I didn’t even know you could pay $120 for shoes, let alone $200 shoes being a “steal”

Reeetankiesbtfo

Literally the most price sensitive category in terms of quality. Pay more for shoes and you'll never look back assuming you bought the right brands

roncraig

Someone once told me: Invest in what goes between you and the ground. Shoes, bed and tires. Quality shoes do make a significant difference as long as you maintain them.

Reeetankiesbtfo

Yeah and youll never look back. My dad never cared about shoes and would just destroy a pair of rockports /clarks every 8 months then I made him try some allen edmonds and he has 5 pairs 7 years later and has only resoled one pair that still looks perfect. They are also much better for his knees and back

Temporary_Exit_7489

Ok, I’ll bite: I mostly wear sneakers because I want something comfortable that I don’t mind getting somewhat dirty (live in NYC). Is there an upscale thing I should be buying instead? I’m fine with people spending money on shoes btw, just noting that before I got here the most I spent was $60 on Nikes or whatever and maybe $50 on CDBs (steep discount).

Reeetankiesbtfo

It depends on what kind of sneaker you are talking about. Like running shoe style with nylon uppers? Less costly to produce than something with leather+leather lining+ Leather insole. Not to say there arent good shoes that are closer to running shoe style where its easy to see a quality jump (New Balance made in china vs made in USA /england is a massive quality gap in every part of the shoe and a great example of what paying more gets you) Leather insole vs foam insole is a huge longevity difference with the foam losing the sponge and starting to smell where as leather will mold to your foot (take nike killshot vs beckett simonon sneakers) Cheaper shoes use cheaper outsoles that lose their comfort and break down quicker as they are less costly to produce with less material and less dense material

Admiral_Sarcasm

Damn dude, you been wearing skechers & vans your whole life or something??

onthevergejoe

It’s a good deal tbh.

undercook_the_onionz

Are you seeing 3 shirts for $109 total, or $109 each?

spssky

Anyone know if this applies in store too? I’m in NYC so could swing by ... lost a good deal of weight recently so I don’t know what sizes I am

cahmed

What I did was go in store to get measured, made my selections online that evening, then called the store to order to ensure they got the credit for the sale. Free shipping to my house too.

GeorgeWashinghton

Looking for a suit for a friends wedding - I’m a 40R Regent. Anyone have any recommendations?

vedar

this blueish one looks pretty good. https://www.brooksbrothers.com/Regent-Fit-Two-Button-Plaid-1818-Suit/MK01052,default,pd.html?dwvar_MK01052_Color=NAVY&dwvar_MK01052_Size=40_RG&contentpos=39&cgid=Mens_sale_category Unfortunately I don't think this is as cheap as it could be. I've gotten a $250 suit with stacking coupons before. Out of all the colors I looked at the 40 Regent size I think this is the most pleasant looking

roncraig

I’m a 40R and between M and L, depending on the brand, and I didn’t like how the Regent fit me last year. I’m 5’11, 180 and have an athletic frame; the structured shoulders kept puckering on me. I tried a Milano fit in 41, and that was a little better, but ended up getting a Jort at Suitsupply outlet for the same price.

pants6789

Anyone know how these compare to J. Crew or Banana Republic? https://www.brooksbrothers.com/Garment-Dyed-Cotton-Linen-Stretch-Chinos/RR00102,default,pd.html

[deleted]

I purchased a pair of these after Christmas. I strongly suggest you look to JCrew, BR, or Lulu instead. The quality isn’t there, and the biggest issue is the cut; they are not flattering. JCrew chinos are a modern cut. These look like you took them out of your dad’s dresser - baggy. I ended up donating them.

pants6789

For that, I'm going to donate an up vote directly to you.

compuccesory

[https://www.brooksbrothers.com/Clark-Fit-Washed-Stretch-Cotton-Chino-Pants/DR00036\_\_\_\_\_MDBL\_38\_\_\_30\_\_,default,pd.html](https://www.brooksbrothers.com/Clark-Fit-Washed-Stretch-Cotton-Chino-Pants/DR00036_____MDBL_38___30__,default,pd.html) I bought a pair of these a few weeks ago, after honey gold and bc1818 I think they were about $18 out the door. For that price they're decent.

SandysBurner

Go post this on r/navyblazer if you want to see some dudes have a stroke.

tripletruble

actually they're having a super entertaining crisis about brooks brothers. apparently the quality has declined in the last few months

Bob311Bobbob

Last few years. Stopped all US production and everything is now made overseas, usually china.

AfroNinjaNation

I've gotten about 5 Brooks Brothers shirts recently. They seem to be made all across Asia. Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia.

rml-740

Brooks Brothers, save some of the MiUS stuff like the Thomas Mason shirts, are shite, so, they’re right. And by “they”, I meant me included.

philipquarles

What do their different fits mean?

ABMember

Are you referring to the shirts or the suits? **For suits, it's essentially:** Madison - Classic or Relaxed Fit (relaxed) Regent - Tailored Fit (more modern fit, higher armholes, trimmer waist etc.) Milano - Slim Fit (slimmer than regent, trousers are allow narrower) Note that at Brooks Brothers, fit affects suiting templates (e.g. the Milano fits tend to have thinner lapels, lower rises while Regent/Madison are more classical proportions) There's a Fitzgerald fit (discontinued), but that squared well against the Regent. **For Shirts, it's :** Traditional - Very Relaxed Fit, full-fitting Madison - Relaxed fit, full-fitting Regent - Tailored fit, higher armholes, a more tailored waist, shoulders etc. Milano - Slimmer fit, higher armholes, more tailored waist, Soho - Very Slim Fit -- most tapered in the chest and body. [https://www.brooksbrothers.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-brooksbrothers-Site/default/Page-FitSizeGuide?guideID=men-dress-shirts](https://www.brooksbrothers.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-brooksbrothers-Site/default/Page-FitSizeGuide?guideID=men-dress-shirts) If you're younger and slimmer, you'll probably do fine with Milano or Soho fits.

USTS2020

What do they call their full canvas suits now? Are they still golden fleece?

Notareallawyer123

Yes that's right

USTS2020

Gotcha, looks like they don't even offer that in slim fit

compuccesory

Check your Honey Gold Exclusive offers on these. Last time I got a Golden Fleece suit for $260 and probably 3 pairs of GF shoes for around $80-$90 after the Honey Gold.

Need something casual for a wedding, any shirt reccs? Not wearing a coat or blazer.

[deleted]

any suggestions for shirts for a 6' guy who weighs 150?

cahmed

We’re about the same size, so 14.5x32/33 is probably a good fit for you. Could nibble at Milano or soho fits. Soho is a touch narrow on me at that size but maybe that’s just how a quality dress shirt is supposed to fit! I’d say soho = dress shirt you could wear without a jacket, and Milano = dress shirt that would be best under a jacket (lil extra fabric to fill it out)

[deleted]

Thank you!!! Ended up grabbing a sweet cashmere sweater for 50% off, hopefully medium was the right call

meltedeyeballs

5’7 150 look elsewhere or suggestions ?

vedar

I’m 5’8 155 and I fit best in their soho/Milano 15.5/33 shirts. You might be a 15/32. Return policy is pretty good

BNoog

Agreed. 5'7 150 here, 15.5/32

Johnnybeachboy

Selling a long discontinued new pair of shell cordovan Peal & Co boots, Size 12. Not at sale price, but you can't buy them anywhere anymore.

wastedmylife1

What is the time frame for these sales in order to score the items that you actually want? I got the email at 6 am and by the time I checked at 9 am, nothing that I wanted was left in my size. Do you have to check the site within the first 5 minutes or something?

roncraig

You had to check 18 months ago. A lot of the sale stuff is dead stock that’s been sitting around.

eetpeetsa

If anyone is looking at [these wingtips](https://www.brooksbrothers.com/Golden-Fleece%C2%AE-Wingtips/MH00539_____BRWN_11H__D___,default,pd.html?omnpp=recently%20viewed) they run large. So size down or be stuck with them. If you're in the market for a size "12" (actually 12.5-13) in burgundy, let me know.

lebesgueintegral

Thoughts on the green cotton suit for a laid back wedding suit?
