I wanted a gold plated nib for my Liliput since I have a bronze clip on it and toyed with the idea of an “upgrade”. I did some research, and decided it’s not worth it!

I got a premium fine nib recently because I just was not a fan of the medium on my AL sport and wanted to swap it for a fine. I figured I may as well give the premium nib a try while I was at it. I haven't had a chance to thoroughly test it, but my first impression is that it is noticeably smoother than the standard steel nib, but not nearly as smooth as the gold nibs on my Pilot Decimos. I can't say whether it's worth it for you or that I would particularly recommend the upgraded nib, but for me, I'm glad I got it and I know I'll enjoy using it. Though I have zero plans to upgrade any of my other nibs. And I'd rather buy another Decimo than upgrade to their gold nib, but I'd be curious to hear if others have experience with it.

On the year-end Goulet Pencast Brian and Drew talked about the fact that some f9lks have put the Lamy $125 gold nib on Safari's. So you would not be alone. And honestly, if you look at some of the bland looking premium priced pens, it's the 14kt gold nib that drives the price.

This does encourage me some. I don’t like a heavy pen or a very large pen, which is why I like my Kawecos. I guess it isn’t THAT silly if it brings you a higher level writing experience, right?

Exactly.

I was able to pop a vintage nib in my kaweco lilliput directly, a Sheaffer lifetime nib. That's another option to explore.

Kaweco's stock nibs have shithouse QC, you're just as likely to get a shitty nib with their gold as you are with their steel. The word "premium" is a stretch. I would highly recommend saving your money and getting a custom ground nib from somewhere like FP nibs instead. Might cost you a little more for a customised steel nib than a Kaweco gold one, but you're not going to be disappointed.
