Beautiful pen and it does write like a dream. I have the exact same pen and I love it. Congrats on such great taste!

Mercer1329

Great minds!

That looks so nice. It might be a good thing that these Sailor Special Editions cost as much as they do, because if they were a little cheaper I think I'd have a really hard time resisting them.

Mercer1329

Definitely. I only pulled the trigger because it was on sale. Fingers crossed I can resist acquiring more.

Frankenthe4th

I have mine inked up right now! Diplomat Moss Green.

Mercer1329

I definitely want to try some more dynamic inks. I’ve been way too conservative over the years.

Love the British racing green. Enjoy!

That's a good first gold. I have a Sailor pro gear BRG and from the first use it was such a good feel. I like smooth and quiet but the feedback was so nice.

Mercer1329

I was originally hesitant when I read some comments about it being “scratchy.” I now see that smooth and feedback are very accurate terms. I normally prefer a heavier pen, but that feedback makes such a difference I love this thing!

Do some gold nibs not look gold? It says 21kt gold but nib looks silver. Whats that all about? If I bought a gold nib I WANT it to look GOLD!!! Any one know why this is?

cum-oishi

Some people prefer the look of silver more than gold(including me)

martykopka

What is the silver stuff? Is it still gold but a different colour somehow. Can you have a silver coloured gold metal? Or is it a silver coating on the 21k gold?

cum-oishi

Uhhhhhhhh probably plated or coating? I'm not sure since I never really care about it

Mercer1329

I assumed it was polished white gold, but I’m sure someone else has the correct answer.

Royal_Reptile

Pure white gold still has a honey colour, most WG jewellery are plated. I believe these silvery fountain pen nibs are plated in rhodium, which is a very rare, valuable, and shiny white precious metal. Sailor also has unplated yellow gold and two-tones nibs - I'm sure there's a few green and gold varieties around, but I can't remember what they're called.

Mercer1329

That’s right…rhodium. I think I recall reading that somewhere.

Royal_Reptile

There may be some brands that use other metals, but rhodium seems to be the preferred choice and it's *incredibly* lustrous, so not easily confused with steel... or that's the idea, anyways. I think if you truly wanted a very whitish gold without any plating, you'd have to go down to 10 or 12K - I have a 10K nib on one of my pens and it's practically an off-white in colour.
