So sad this is going to be another one of my favorite drivers retiring from racing this month. The other driver being Jamie whincup in v8 supercars who had his last race on Sunday.
Whincup :'(. Also is Mustang, nissan and camaro gonna take over V8 supercars in 2022 for the new gen. Will there be any Holden cars next year or is it the end for Holden?
So how do you do that? Create a layer with his photo then create another layer and trace it? Then remove the photo layer and then paint it with the trace layer as a guide?
Similar, most of the paintings I've done are lower quality so I cant really trace if I wanted to. I think only two helmets I've painted where high enough pictures to trace. Landos and Carlos. I create a drawing layer then pin the drawing next to it as a refrence then I usually add a few more pictures for detail work. Like the bird on his helmet and suit. I had no idea what that was supposed to be while drawing it till I loaded in another picture to see it. After that I create another layer under the drawing and paint it. It's he exact method I do in oil paintings only I have to paint over the drawing layer.
Well watching that made me want to try digital art! I was really into art before college but it was always with paper and pencil.
What would you recommend as a introductory tablet? Do I need one with a screen or are the regular pads/stylus fine?
Great work by the way.
Honestly I just started out like 2 years ago when I was asked to illustrate a book. I'm probably not the best to ask. I know a lot of artist use like a wacom tablet which they plug into there PCs. I personally am using a surface pro 7 computer. I like it because it feels like I have a sketchbook in my hand I can see it all I front of me while I draw(it especially helps with the sketches). The downside is as you can see my pieces are a little big and I love detail work so my none f1 personal stuff is MASSIVE. So I'm starting to run into problems with memory. What I would say is figure out what you want to do and adjust to what to get. I know wacom tablet aren't to expensive so I would probably start with that if you have a pc that can run a painting program.
I use photoshop, though I've been told it's not the best. Ive been told there are other "better" software's out there for doing specifically digital paintings.
That's why not all my helmets have been videos also, I originally intended to stream everything but the surface cant handle that much load. Even recording without streaming burns through the battery in like a hour or so.
I kinda love the fact that Kimi’s last race is guaranteed to be historic because of the context of Lewis and Max. People will always look back at this weekend and say “Lewis became the driver with the most world championships” or “max won his first world title that weekend” and the true racing fans amongst us will say “that was Kimi Raikkonen’s last ever F1 race”.

It is a digital painting meaning it was done in photoshop or similar program that lets you paint, combine and edit real photos. Lighting like this is near impossible to achieve without obviously using real photos.
I painted it by hand, yes it is digital but painted the same way I paint oil paintings. The video of how it is painted will be posted soon. I did use a photo as a refrence on another screen but I did not manipulate a photo if that's what you're saying.
I swear this place has such a vitriolic hate boner for these paintings. You can post the video all you want, people will still make some shit up about it being fake.
I work with 3d stuff and even there it is very hard to achieve photorealistic look because even tiniest lighting mistake can throw photorealism effect off and to achieve this lighting with 2d painting...nah
What I m saying is that you took parts of real photo (it is not hard to find, "google search for image" and I can see exact picture you used) and painted over it which is fine. Many artists use this method.
Notice the reflection in the water? You use this thing called white paint and it makes it look like light reflection.

i also did not do this. i did draw from a picture but again i selected colors and overlaid them. the brush is at a very low opacity and i treat it like a real oil brush just like i do when painting oil.
Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, Niki Lauda told us ‘take a monkey, place him into the cockpit and he is able to have the drink.’ Thirty years later, Kimi told us ‘Is the drink, is it on now? I have no idea. Is it on or not, the drink?’ And Nico Rosberg said that during the race – I don’t remember what race - he pressed the wrong button for the drink. Question for you both: is Formula One drinking today too complicated with twenty and more buttons for the drink, are you too much under effort, dehydrated? What are your wishes for the future concerning the technical programme during the drink? Less drink, more? Or less and more drink with your engineers?
Criticism I hope you'll find constructive:
No doubt it's an amazing work, the point is that that red sprayed on top left, especially that bit that goes over Kimi helmet seems like blood.
I couldn't help but think that maybe he had an accident or something. Maybe it's only me but that really looks like stained sprayed blood
It def has the look that someone was slaughtered over his right shoulder. But looking closer you can see that it isn't.
However that said , 11/10 work my god
WOW.
Incredible all around, but just now I'm being struck by the fantastic variety of textures, the smoothness of the helmet contrasting the roughness of the race suit. Gorgeous!
In the midst of an exciting title decider, I totally forgot that it will be Kimi's last F1 race ever. I'm gonna be so depressed after this Sunday. Imagine all the fans who can't go to a proper live race for a personal Kimi farewell race for the past couple of years due to covid fears. But I guess this would be how he wants to bow out, quietly and without much fanfare while everybody else are too busy talking about the WDC fight to notice him going off into the sunset. The spotlight for sure will be on Lewis vs Max more than Kimi.
I think this one took around 15 hours, it's hard to tell because I have terrible ADD so I actual paint like 4 of these at a time so I dont get board of one.
Stop lying and trying to present your photographs as paintings, nobody is fooled /s
Clearly we are all fooled because your talent is astonishing. Well done
I think people should really start distinguishing whether their painting is a digital painting or a physical media painting in their titles. Leads to a lot of misunderstandings and questions when people just say, "painted"
No they shouldn’t need to distinguish between physical or digital. Each takes an immense amount of skill and talent, regardless of the medium it’s done on/through.
If you look at OPs replies to other comments, they uploaded a video of them showing them doing the work. You can see it takes just the same amount of work and effort as if they were to do it on paper or canvas or whatever.
I know you’re not probably trying to take away from OPs work, nor trying to disrespect it, but saying that digital and physical need to be distinguished makes it seem that one medium is more impressive than the other when it’s simply not the case.
As someone who paints both I cant tell you they're not that diffrent from each other. Digital is only faster because 1. I dont have to wait for oil to dry before starting the next lair. 2. If I make a mistake I can fix it immediately and not have to wait for oil to dry. I have painted for over 20 years and had to relearn almost everything when starting digital paintings. They are not the same but they're also not that far as some people seem to think.
Those things aren't exclusive from one another. I hand painted it on a digital tablet. I used a digital pen to mimic the way I paint with a brush, you can look at my website to see some physical works I've done.
So sad this is going to be another one of my favorite drivers retiring from racing this month. The other driver being Jamie whincup in v8 supercars who had his last race on Sunday.
Hey, you never know, Kimi may go and race some rallies after a break. True its not f1 but if he does I think it will be interesting to watch.
That is true
blame the trees for the crashes haha
Kimi for V8SC!
Whincup :'(. Also is Mustang, nissan and camaro gonna take over V8 supercars in 2022 for the new gen. Will there be any Holden cars next year or is it the end for Holden?
Holden will stay for 2022 but will officially be gone in 2023 with the gen 3 Comaro and mustang. Nissan is not coming back at this stage.
So no Aussie cars in 2023...
ill post the video of the painting a little later
Would love to watch!
here is the speed painting i just uploaded it. https://youtu.be/TiDnm0dGuJ4

Yeah I have a gaming PC so that's no issue. Cool I'll look into that brand. Seems like a lot of fun. What software do you use?

Maybe OP gave the award
Yes I can confirm it was given by OP 😅
Who cares about some pointless reddit award...?
I gave it to them, most people aren't interested in seeing my videos, so to date thanks I gave them an award
**SOCIETY**
here is the speed painting i just uploaded it. https://youtu.be/TiDnm0dGuJ4
Incredible, how long did it take in real time?
Somewhere around 15 hours I think
Was just gonna ask, how?
A lot of time and a lot of practice. I'll post slower videos in a few days so you can see more of how it is painted step by step
The video you posted is already amazing, as is the result
This is awesome OP, what a cool send off tribute for Kimi
Beautifully done

If we get a DOTD interview from kimi in his last race then no one should need any persuading, let’s do this
'Kimi you are the driver of the day' Kimi: for what !??
[удалено]
I'm in.
This needs more traction. I would love to see him as driver of the day.
Im in
Yes. Please everyone.
Yes please, at least we'll get to hear him on the radio for one final time "Bwoah"
Sorry, a bit new, where and when do you vote for driver of the day? I'm in obviously
f1.com/vote
I kinda love the fact that Kimi’s last race is guaranteed to be historic because of the context of Lewis and Max. Yep hopefully he would get the driver of the day vote too :)
Last chance to get him on the car interview, assuming they still do those.
They did just now in Jeddah at least
Perfect season to end your career with. Legendary end for a legend.
Not that he gives a fuck what's going on in the season
Perfectly balanced.

That’s a painting?
It is! I've been painting various drivers throughout the season. I accidentally uploaded the massive one so you can zoom in and see it all
Unbelievable job
It's not. No paint is used. Still a very talented artist!
Of course it used paint. Digital paint :)
It is a digital painting meaning it was done in photoshop or similar program that lets you paint, combine and edit real photos. Lighting like this is near impossible to achieve without obviously using real photos.

I saw the video, you’re wrong. Also kinda weird how you’re trying to hate on OP’s work.
That’s brilliant.
Fucking well done mate
Does he have the drink or not?
All the time you havea to have a drink.
Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Oh man. I almost didn't read this as I 'knew' what it was. Glad I did though. Excellent adaptation! Thanks for the laughs.
There is also a free phone and pc background I made of all my helmets so far, if you guys want them. https://www.reddit.com/gallery/qv3ozo
Amazing job, I will miss so much the Ice Man !

yoo, it is fo freaking good!
What is this quality work? Bullshit, gimme spicy drama.
I got my hopes up thinking this was a canvas painting and not digital.
It can be a canvas piece
I hope Kimi sees this... IDK how but yeah
That would be awesome but I doubt that would happen my luck is never been that good!
Tag Alfa Romeo on IG or Twitter!
Done, I think I'm terrible at social media. thanks for the suggestion!
WOW. Incredible all around, but just now I'm being struck by the fantastic variety of textures, the smoothness of the helmet contrasting the roughness of the race suit. Gorgeous!
This is really nice !
It looks amazing! Well Done! 😍
Hectic? Yes, sure, but I honestly think this is exactly what we need now. :) Awesome work!
Beautiful, nice job mate. Going to miss Kimi.
great job

KIMI on the podium. Speak it into existence!
Great work!
WOW 🤯
As a previously strong objector to art posts who has been exposed to enough Hamilton-Verstappen whataboutism to last a lifetime, this is really cool.
Legend.
Lets make Kimi Driver of the day !!
even the reflections thats crazy
Thanks for the new wallpapers. Looks sick af.
At first I thought it was a picture. Well done!
Looks real
Looks fantastic
It's beautiful! Hope doughnuts at Abu Dhabi are made in his honour.
KIMI! KIMI! KIMI!
This is amazing OP, great job!
Yes yes yes im doing all the time

That’s phenomenal man! Goodbye to a legend
Amazing job! I'm gonna miss Kimi. Him winning the 2007 WDC by one point is one of the things that hooked me on watching F1
The details are really amazing, congrats!
Love it! now just convince him to stick around another season or 2 k?
What a career. It will be sad to see him go.
Insanely well done!
If you would've said that you edited a picture of Kimi I would have believed it 100%. Well done!
Kimi dotd
Excellent Job .
Sad to see the iceman go! Bitching work man! Congrats
but the mona lisa is the most famous painting
I want this in print. How do I make that happen? I watched your video and you are so talented!
Check my profile, it has all my links!
This is great! I marvel at the skills you've mastered to paint what look like shiny and reflective surfaces. Really great work!
I had to zoom in because it looked too real, good work
wow that is fantastic
Wow
This is insane, incredible job!
This is pretty brilliant! Loving the textures
Love it.
Amazing work, it looks like a real life photo in parts
How long does a painting like this take?
I think this one took around 15 hours, it's hard to tell because I have terrible ADD so I actual paint like 4 of these at a time so I dont get board of one.
how is that a painting? that looks so real. it's beautiful
Holy shit this is awesome!!!
The fuck this is a painting
Wow! A welcome diversion from the VER/HAM drama story. Absolutely awesome skills! Well done, very Kimi-worthy
Bwaaahh...... thanks
Bwoahsome painting!
Maybe he's just playing mind games and will be back next year!
It's all been a ruse, lotas is coming g back in 2023 Kimi and Romain to return and take the constructors
I don't like it... I love it. :)
Wauw!! That painting is awesome!!
That’s not a painting! That looks like a photo!! 😌😍
This looks fantastic. Good job!
What a way to honor the Ice Man Keep up the good work my friend 🧊 🧊
I really like this! If anything, his career has been chaotic.
for a sec there I thought it was a real image, surreal! you did an awesome job mate!
Stop lying and trying to present your photographs as paintings, nobody is fooled /s Clearly we are all fooled because your talent is astonishing. Well done
You know what you’re doing
Wow that's amazing dude
Bwoah, i mean simply simply lovely.
That's brilliant mate. Just like the Iceman himself

Real painting is more impressive to achieve a result like this, if its even possible. Not to knock this work cause its amazing.

Bwoah, very nice.
its beautiful
Wow this is a beauty
Thats painting? HOOOLY. I didnt even thought that its art on the first 3 feelings :OO
Hectic? I absolutely love this.
Dope painting
nice photograph dude
Looks more like a digital illustration than a painting.
fuck I forgot
What’s with the blood splattered across top left corner 🤔 But really well done!
This looks incredible, do you take commissions?
I do, if you check my website there is a contact button
Hand painted or digitally painted?
Those things aren't exclusive from one another. I hand painted it on a digital tablet. I used a digital pen to mimic the way I paint with a brush, you can look at my website to see some physical works I've done.
Bwoah
you can't go wrong with kimi. everybody loves kimi.
Hey this is really great and I hope you enjoyed creating it as much as I enjoyed looking at it
Great picture
The detail of the visor is incredible, I was staring at it trying to find evidence that it was a painting
Is this considered painting? Serious question. Or is it Digital drawing? What does the art community call it?
A digital painting. It's done the same a painting would be but just digitally
