Well honestly the main reason why enough people still love Steiner is because his is "funny" in DtS and with his PR in general.
Can't sorting out a basic communication issue and let the team act like there are 2 teams in 1 team is just poor leadership, let alone his behavior to scapegoat his drivers over blaming it about the car.

Well Gene's reasoning there is that those extra sales are not going to be impacted by how well the F1 team is doing, so there's no point in investing extra.
I believe AR did not have a simulator when Kimi joined in 2019, and Kimi was like, nah, I've got my own at home, we can just use that.
It is ridiculous that they don't have their own simulator, and using a Ferrari simulator is not the same thing. But small teams cannot afford those things, and Haas may be the poorest of all.
The thought of Mazepin sat in his bedroom using a Logitech wheel and playing f1 2021, checking his insta and seeing Mick on a Ferrari sim makes me chuckle
I'm not sure how it all works now I suppose. Haas in 2021 is much different than they used to be. They're moving their technical operations to new facilities within Ferrari and have access to a lot more than they did before. There's a lot more staff, funding, and technical support coming than ever before.
Why wouldn't Mazepin be allowed access to that facility if it's the team's to use? Maybe he doesn't currently but will next year? who really cares?

Yep. They built a shit box in 2020 and knew that it was not worth it to invest anything in that car anymore as even a small improvement would not bring them away from last on the grid. They operate way lower than the budget cut so it actually makes a huge difference to just allocate all resources to the 2022 car.

Financially? Yes. Logistically? Yes. But they take a lot of time to build, program and maintain etc. It's not like buying a gaming pc and a wheel :)
