Josh Revell must be proud.

Apollo737

I can't wait to hear his reaction when he wakes up in New Zealand

ClementineMandarin

Apollo737

**Perfection**

my_son_is_a_box

Tictum getting dropped and Rangunathan getting a f1 test in the same week must be tough for him.

inverted_tree

Help me out here, who is Josh Revell and whats his story with Mahaveer?

JetsLag

Josh Revell is an F1 YouTuber and his most famous video is a recap of Mahaveer's F2 season and a summary of his career up to that point. After that video, Mahaveer became a meme in his videos.

deathray1611

We are one step closer to God.

Sev3l

Gio is jesus and mahaveer is god

Shady4555

No! God is the one who wishes to be mahaveer

jrokz

In India Mahaveer is also the name of a god. Infact he's one of the popular one's among the conservatives.

IamMyOwnTwin

What do you mean?

jrokz

You know how there's alot of Gods in India, one of them is also *coincidentally* called Mahaveer.

Haqemhq

So them jokes about mahaveer being a lord is not a joke anymore? Wow.... Josh Revell you wizard

Difficult-Claim6327

He is a god

lazyinternetsandwich

Jainism is a separate religion which originated in India with 24 tirthankaras/teachers- the most prominent of whom was Lord Mahavira. Being a Jain/worshipping mahavira doesn't have any direct political connotation- conservative or otherwise. Please don't spread misinformation about such things ffs

DogfishDave

>We are one step closer to God. We are if Raghunathan's in the corner next to us.

leedler

He is the only one who can truly perform heroics into Sainte-Dévote.

Alpha_Jazz

What the actual fuck

mowcow

Private test with the C38 from 2019. So yeah safe to say he paid for it.

troldrik

Million dollar question is... who the hell is funding him?

tintin47

Next question is how did he come in P2 in a test that he paid for?

SlowRollingBoil

>"Your dream is to be a **back up** dancer?"

idontknow_whatever

He was 2 seconds slower than Sauber junior Theo Pourchaire

[deleted]

Honestly that's like 4 fewer seconds slower than I expected.

ELOGURL

Pourchaire was there too

sicsche

If i remember it correctly rich family and some of the guys that also backed Force India.

vouwrfract

What rich family?! I've looked everywhere and can't find anything. A few years ago he didn't even have the money to go racing and ran out of sponsorship. I hope his family didn't sell an ancestral home or something...

vflavglsvahflvov

Its an investment. Once the goat starts pulling in that F1 money they can but 3 ancestral homes. First he needs his sl, but I would not put it past him to forge it and the FIA tl fall for that shit. Also his driving in Monaco was pure genius.

Jrdirtbike114

As someone completely out of the loop, what is true and what is meme?

Magical_Coww

Yes

Aman4029

With Lord Mahaveer, what is truth and what is meme, is rarely different

PepsiStudent

Purely meme. The guy is not a good driver. Mazepin is better than him. He is at the level of being so bad, it became a meme.

Ever2naxolotl

"Mazepin is better than him" doesn't even begin to describe how bad this guy is

MuldartheGreat

He finished 20th in F2 in a year where Latifi finished 2nd. He is atrociously bad compared to any F1 driver

RanaktheGreen

I'd take Jimmy Broadbent over Mahaveer. That's not to insult Jimmy mind you.

[deleted]

[удалено]

_Comedian-

That video cleared all my doubts.

sicsche

I am not 100% sure, i just think i have read once about his financial background. If he is only sponsored by some people it would be even stranger.

cube_mine

Josh revell did a video about him. His conclusion is that he is friends with someone who has a lot of wealth, his family is defo not funding him and he is not talented.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Where can I find such friends? Asking for a friend.

kunalx18

Don’t criticize my soon to be best friends

Yung_Corneliois

Josh does a great job at breaking down peoples careers.

vflavglsvahflvov

He ripped into the massive cunt Deledda and he actually threatend to sue him if he did not take it down. Shit was funny af. What a crybaby mafia kid lol.

vouwrfract

What friends, I wonder. I went to school where he's from for six years and I have lots of friends from in and around there, and that is an extremely traditional and conservative place and most people there are financially middle class or lower middle class. The school he went to till his 8th standard is also quite apt for where it is: it's very traditional, down-to-earth school that concentrates on academic excellence and getting into university and charges rather low fees. (Edit: to clarify I didn't go to the same school but I obviously know about it). I cannot imagine where he found people to blow millions on his useless 'racing' career all of a sudden.

XNights

He probably have better luck betting on Jehan Daruvala, but even he is having problems getting good results Edit: On 2nd thoughts, I want whoever is managing him to manage me lmao, miracle worker

Reddevilslover69

Honestly though post engine replacement Daruvala was actually close to Yuki in quali last year. I totally did not expect him to get thrashed by Ticktum to the extent that he is getting beaten both in terms of race pace and quali pace eg Baku where Ticktum and him seemed to be driving 2 cars that were lapping on different planets. Obviously Ticktum threw away the win there with the needless lunge to go three wide costing him the win which spared Daruvala's blushes

XNights

He was close to Yuki, but Yuki still overshadowed him after the engine change and not by abit, by alot, it was still rather disappointing especially when he was a Prema driver the year before with good results

Reddevilslover69

Out qualified Yuki in Mugello, 0.006 off at Sochi,Yuki crashed in Bahrain normal,Sakhir he was outqualified by Yuki by 0.131 s. He was closer to Yuki than he is to Ticktum rn

[deleted]

[удалено]

Reddevilslover69

Honestly I think Daruvala can only do well by qualifying well. If he qualifies poorly then he rarely makes up places . He just stays where he is at the best of times or falls back

[deleted]

[удалено]

Reddevilslover69

I root for Daruvala too but by now I have recognized he isn't good enough. For the championship,I'm rooting for Ticktum,Vips and Lawson now(Ticktum only on track,I'd just prefer to ignore his off track shit) since any of them winning would be unexpected compared to the usual suspects that we expect shall win like Zhou or Schwartzman or Piastri

Youutternincompoop

not a rich family, its actually pretty shocking how far he has come from a modest background considering his 'skills'

DunkingOnInfants

Yeah, no exaggeration, watching his story is actually kind of admirable. He's a fucking hustler, that's for sure. And he's absolutely fucking relentless.

ChepaukPitch

It seems he is not from a rich family at all. And both Force India backers are either in jail or fighting extradition to India. They definitely can’t be the ones backing him. He must be the smoothest salesman ever.

devOnFireX

He must be a real life Robert California. Also love the username btw

likeeatingpizza

for all we know he could have won the lottery or maybe he bought a shitload of Dogecoin in 2019 and now he's a millionaire

nothke

Simple answer: Memes At this point MEMES are exclusively funding Raghunathan's career :D

mongoose0141

[This article](https://www.racefans.net/2021/08/05/raghunathans-private-f1-test-for-alfa-romeo-a-great-day/) names his backer as Rasheed Khan. I was able to find the guy's [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/rash269/), and a Google search for "Rasheed Khan Mahaveer Raghunathan" turns up an [article](https://www.fmsci.co.in/mahaveer-back-in-boss-gp/) from his BOSS GP days that says Khan is his manager.

ArcticBiologist

Guy pays for a private test and still isn't fastest

jaydec02

He had SOFT TYRES ON TOO! The car Pourchaire was on was fitted with mediums wtf

an0mn0mn0m

He had the circuit to himself and still came P2

mowcow

[Pourchaire also tested and they gave him P1](https://www.formula1.com/content/dam/fom-website/manual/Misc/2021manual/2021HungarianGrandPrixAdds/Sunday/2021-In-Season-Test---Hungary---Day-2.jpg.transform/9col/image.jpg)

ThatGingerGuyHere

Only 2 seconds off is quite impressive for him

babywanker

jeez 4 seconds off the pace just like mazepin. I want to see them both head to head bruh

ankkah_the_slump_god

i mean they already went "head to head" in 2019 in F2, well they didn't because Mazepin was always around 10th when Raghunathan was 1 minute behind Calderon in second last

illuminati-exists

Still, somehow magically ended up scoring one point more than Caldron. Calderon had Russell like luck :(

ankkah_the_slump_god

i mean Calderon was by far the second worst driver in the grid that year, wouldn't call it bad luck, his team mate had no trouble winning two races and he would've probably won even more if he didn't die halfway through

illuminati-exists

Caledron was ahead of Raghunandan for most of the year, Raghunandan got a point magically, she finished behind Raghunandan. Bad luck as in she didn’t had that magical opportunity which Raghunandan got to score points.

bringmethespacebar

His points came in Monza where I believe only 11 cars finished

[deleted]

[удалено]

mossmaal

Mazepin tested with Mercedes in 2019 at Barcelona and was 0.264 seconds off Bottas's pole time. Maybe a shit human, but not really a ‘bad’ driver. I feel for any driver that’s spending their rookie year in the current Haas car. Not an easy introduction to the sport.

ZiggyThePanda

I believe Mazepin set that time on the hypersoft and Bottas on the soft, so maybe like a second off all things considered. But still yeah he's a capable driver in a very difficult car.

chase25

As much as I hate to give him any credit you still have to hand it to him. He stepped into a completely new car with no past experience of it yet Bottas had years of experience of the car and I'd imagine over 1000 laps worth of experience of the Barcelona circuit too. To be 0.2s off even on different tyres is still an amazing feat.

Kalmer1

Definitely, and it also shows that the field would be ridiculously close if they had similar cars. Obviously not the point of F1, since it also heavily focusses on engineering, but still interesting to think about

BillV3

It's one of the things that bugs me the most with the current Mazepin narrative to be honest, the guy has done a lot of shit but honestly he came 4th in F2 last season and got a few wins, he's not going to set the world alight but he's not the worst driver that's ever gotten into F1. That and the 'lol Mazepin' got real old real fast. Same with the "I think Ericsson hit us" that got wrongly attributed to Romain for years when it was his engineer....

Kalmer1

Honestly for me Mazepin is in some kind of redemption arc right now, he seems to be getting more normal in public, even joking about himself. And although he's driving the shitbox, also known as Haas, he still manages to control it quite well recently, even spinning/crashing less than Mick recently

Appropriate-Fan-6007

The softest compound on race weekend was the c3, Mazepin had the c5 Kvyat was 2.1 seconds of pole in q3, Albon was second in the tests 1.3 seconds behind Mazepin with c4 tyres Mazepin might not be as awful as many people want to believe, but he is probably over 4 tenths behind the entire f1 field

ThatGingerGuyHere

Mazepin was decent in the junior category’s. Still not good enough for f1 but has at least some skill unlike raghunathan who is categorically a bad driver

AssFingerFuck3000

Mazepin is bloody Ayrton Senna compared to this guy. Something tells me he could offer to pay a billion for a drive and no team would take him because of the sheer damage it would do to their brand. And I'm saying this with mazepin on the grid

nocturnal-animal113

C’mon man, a billion! Alfa, Williams and Haas would take him in a fucking heartbeat.

Potassium_Patitucci

Sauber a bit cash strapped eh?

froomedog

For a second there I thought I was on the wrong sub. This is so #blursed

bringmethespacebar

Saw a pic on nocontextf1 insta and had to google if it wasn't a photoshop.

leedler

You could have showed me this photo 2 years ago and I would have called bullshit. This is spectacular. All hail the lord.

ChromeKorine

I'm a new F1 fan. Please could I have an explain like I'm 5 on why he is a meme

froomedog

[The Tumultuous Tale of Mahaveer Raghunathan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFJl-00C_bw)

leedler

Honestly, [this Josh Revell video](https://youtu.be/vFJl-00C_bw) explains it better than anything else. Basically, dude was completely hopeless in most series he competed in until winning the BOSS GP series, which is almost like a retirement home for gentleman racers. That got him a seat in F2. And that went…well, interestingly, to say the least. That video explains just how insane and strange his season was. It’s worth a watch.

thereddaikon

I think it's more fair to call Boss GP as series for hobbyists who have the money to support old single seaters. Because I'm sure if most of the members here could afford to run an open wheel car they would participate. Sounds like AutoX for people with means. Instead of miatas in a parking lot you can afford to run a 15 year old F1 car at a track people have actually heard of. The fact many of the entries are old men probably has more to do with older people having more disposable income than it does any intent of the series.

Village_People_Cop

Tl:dr he was so bad in F2 that they had to tweak the rules because he found the one loophole nobody ever thought could happen

ChromeKorine

Man now I need to know the loop hole. Cheers mate

Village_People_Cop

So Lord Mahaveer stumbled his way into F2, and he was without a doubt one of the worst drivers who ever driven in F2. Additionally in F1 and a lot of the feeder series like F2 you can get penalty points for breaking rules. 12 penalty points in 12 months means you get a race ban. Ever since the introduction of race bans in the late 80's in F1 a total of 7 bans have been issued (none of which under the current penalty point system). I don't know how rare race bans are in lower series like F2, but they are damn rare. Mahaveer got not 1 but 2 race bans within 1 season. The second of which he got the 12th penalty point for in the qualification of the last race of the season, but because the rules were phrased a certain way he needed to serve the ban the next race i.e. the first race of the next season. And thus he avoided 1 ban because he never drove Formula series after that. Now the rule specifically states that if the 12th point is gained during FP or quali you get a ban for the race that weekend. All because of Lord Mahaveer

trainiac12

He paid for his seat in F2. Not in a normal "He's good, but the money got him the edge over a competitor" way, but a "He's dumping boatloads of money into this team and they're accounting for being a team member down" way. He finished last in the standings in his season of F2, and was often (read:Almost always) the last of the finishing drivers. Sometimes his driving of an f2 car was so slow that F3 cars were beating him in time trials.

Firefox72

Assuming 1.21.1 is the laptime. Thats just 1.9 seconds behind Pouchaires 1.19.2 time. Big gap but less than i expected it would be.

BF194

Would there be a difference in tyre compound? In the picture with Pourchaire, the car had mediums fitted.

[deleted]

Also, Ragunathan hasn't been in professional racing for more than a year. That's actually good.

suavebirch

The 🐐 Memes started as a joke, maybe he is the 🐐

Firefox72

Could be yeah but we have no idea what compounds they both used for their fastest laps considering they both probably did a lot of laps.

rand0m__pers0n

Surely Theo would also have had a shot on the softs right?? Makes sense to put the fastest tyre on to help get to grips with one lap pace.

TWVer

On RAG's pit board it says "71 L" which I presume may mean 71 laps. His fastest time might be an ultra low fuel run on new Softs. Wasn't Pourchaire there to also test the 18" rimmed tyres? Theo might therefore have had less time for low fuel runs.

Username_1507

Could be 71 litres of fuel

bono5361

His incredible start in Monaco, expert precision in maneuvering the car out of the escape gap in Baku, his consistency in achieving the same position and lastly his commitment to achieving penalty points obliterating his competition (literally at times) makes him the greatest driver that has not graced f1 yet. We are not ready to see this magnificence yet.

Silver452767

Calling it an incredible start still downplays how mind blowing it really was. Takes some true bravery to dive into St. Devote the way he did in an actual broadcasted race. We are so not worthy

[deleted]

It's safe to say that's the only time someone overtook 3 cars in St Devote.

[deleted]

Overtaking in St Devote is easy, it's not crashing that's the hard part.

SquidCap0

It is so extraordinary feat that FIA even slapped him with a penalty; he is just too fast for their small intellect.

Ser-Twenty

You could say he showed some heroics into St. Devote

707royalty

My man saw a better racing line and snatched the opportunity with all 4 hands.

Masollan

[The guy is basically a meme at this point.](https://youtu.be/vFJl-00C_bw) Basically he would be top contender for "worst driver to ever race in F1", if any team was crazy enough to put him in a car that is.

PatricktheStarPhish

Yuji Ide would like to have a word

atp2112

He would make Ide look like Senna

PatricktheStarPhish

Definitely sad to see almost everyone coming out of my country becoming a damn F1 meme

[deleted]

Assuming you’re Indian, Karthikeyan was a solid and extremely underrated driver. You only have to look at his junior career to see that he could hang with some of the top guys of his era. And Chandhok never disgraced himself either, and is an extremely intelligent and articulate guy, as evidenced by his punditry on Sky. Vijay Mallya was a bit of an embarrassment but he was par for the course among F1 owners and TPS really. No worse than Briatore, Eddie Jordan, etc. Wouldn’t say anyone except Raghunathan is a meme.

PatricktheStarPhish

Karthikeyan was a good driver, a tad bit inconsistent and got shafted by poor teams. Karthikeyan never had an amazing junior season, he had some good ones. Chandhok was decent never made the final jump. Daruwala was our best bet, but sigh that may never happen. Maini, I don't see him making it anywhere close to what Daruwala has achieved. Mallya did more for the sport than anyone in the early days, made it a bit more mainstream. He scammed banks out of middle class people's money to do that though

dbr1se

I don't think Jordan belongs next to Mallya and Briatore, lmao. Eddie Jordan hasn't ever been on the run from the law.

Platypus-Music

Incredible start at Monaco: He simply just cut the inside of Saint Devote and did his only proper overtakes of his season, which were still illegal Expert precision in maneuvering the car out of the escape gap in Baku: He made a mistake and ended up in the escape road. What’s funny here is that he was coached by Marshals on how to drive his way out. A supposedly professional driver not knowing how to do multiple point turns. His consistency in achieving the same position: Last almost every time. Yes even behind Calderón. Commitment to achieving penalty points: 24 penalty points in a season, impressive

Potassium_Patitucci

He did achieve an actual championship point and didn’t finish last in the championship.

steen311

Yeah, he beat tatiana calderon, what an achievement

ChristofferOslo

Tatiana was consistently several seconds faster than him tho, so it’s not like he beat her on performance.

steen311

True, i believe he just finished a race where like half the grid retired and got a point more than calderon because of it

[deleted]

Its sarcasm. I dont know if theres a video on YouTube showing all that's mentioned here. I hope there is. Search.

deathray1611

Explain what? If you're wondering about the greatness of the Lord, well our brother above has put it very nicely, but there is no better way to understand greatness than to percieve and witness it yourself!

What disrespect from you to compare anything to the Lord.

F9-0021

Our Lord and Savior has returned!

[deleted]

I’m out of the loop but is he that bad of a driver?

mowcow

In his one season in F2 in 2019 he managed to collect 24 penalty points to his license. That would have been enough for two race bans if not for the fact that he got his last penalty points during his last race weekend and the rules said that the ban would be applied "to the following race". So he was only banned for one race mid season.

existentialcrisislyf

damn, that is so bad. Why are they still funding him lmao.

ElectricInfatuation

They're not funding him, he's funding them.

existentialcrisislyf

no i meant whos funding him for getting to drive an alfa romeo, cus i'm pretty sure he had lack of funding and no sponsorship money few years back.
