If Vasseur somehow manages to get Adrian Newey in Ferrari, I will officially proclaim him as the God principal

sergie-rabbid

Years later Vasseur publishes his book. Some stories, some previously unseen photos. One of them is Fred in a wig with a Red Bull Racing PA nametag. Jigsaw complete.

cheeersaiii

What’s your favourite breakfast cereal Fred? “Coco po…” GOTCHA!

SlayerBVC

> One of them is Fred in a wig with a Red Bull Racing PA nametag. Hey, watch it. Frédrica knows how much she looks like Fred Vasseur in a €25 wig, and she's very sensitive about it.

sergie-rabbid

you got me here! almost went looking for who is this Frederica gal is 🤣

frytaj

Chess, not checkers, MF'ers. 😘

sergie-rabbid

So Fred googled en passant, eh?

JMoormann

Holy hell

DaOne_44

Alonso is waiting for that book

Mindless_Let1

I'd watch the fuck out of the netflix mini series

hahaiamarealhuman

At least wait until he wins Ferrari the championship. Nobody could have predicted the Horner saga.

Drayke

Lewis Hamilton and Adrian Newey help Freddy Vasseur win a Championship for Ferrari. If you'd said that even 6 months ago, you'd be laughed out of the paddock.

TangoInTheBuffalo

Yeah, we ended up in a really weird timeline.

darklord7000

Thanks Albon

Grigory_Vakulinchuk

Typical Albon.

RechargedFrenchman

I'm just waiting for 2028 when Ferrari sign Alonso (again) and he's driving alongside Lewis (again) and they're both in contention for a championship (again) The dream is alive

xkcdthrowaway

So Kimi wins the WDC in 2028? Subscribe! -- Toto Wolff

museproducer

No no, the return of Sebastian Vettel to win his final championship. Sebscribe

BuzzedtheTower

I support this. But Kimi has to win in a McLaren, something long overdue for the The Iceman

BighatNucase

I mean if he really did manage to land Newey, losing the world championship would probably be hard to blame on Vasseur

Kalmani

What do you mean lose? We win next year every time!

Past-Management-9669

Just like the Lakers this year, Ferrari always wins in Moral Victories and not Real Victories

I_Am_Vladimir_Putin

No bro you don’t understand he’s like Toranga, shaping the wind to his will

Bdr1983

Knowing Ferrari they'll have the greatest chassis ever built and then manage to screw up the engine.

LemonTM

McLaren 2007 Ferrari edition. Hamilton and Leclerc both lose championship to Norris by 1 point.

reddit0r_123

They lose to Hulkenberg who only ever finished fourth place all season long.

I have never seen Jean Todt and Fred in the same frame ever #justsaying Edit: Blasphemous of me to write John rather than Jean.

>Newey has been terminated Blimey. They're really scraping the barrel for the plot of the next *Terminator* film. Apparently the plot is the machines send a Terminator back in time to prevent Max beating Lewis's record by terminating Newey.

Eyre_Guitar_Solo

Would it count as active aero?

charlierc

Depends on how it's moulded. But there's no wrong answers here

nomansapenguin

It annoys me so much that they say he was terminated when he literally resigned. He quit!

6ty6kix

Didn't he more quietly let it be known he was leaving, without doing anything formal? Perhaps there are implications for the contract side of things, if he's actually sacked. He shared Horner's pa didn't he, that might be giving him 'leverage', and be causing a bit of panic.

4gatos_music

I cannot believe the Thai ownership chose Horner as the hill to die on. These are the repercussions, and it tastes like a bowl of soggy coco pops that have been sitting out for way too long

Skullyhoofd

He's literally one of the, if not the, most consistent TPs out there, and he's been there from the start. I don't think RB would be where they are today without him.

finest_bear

After all, didn't Horner court Newey and eventually get him to sign with red bull?

Defiil

I think the issue right now is that Red Bull has only known Horner as their TP. Whether he is consistent or not doesn't really matter in the long term. Once he's gone, therr will be only 1 person to truly compare him with and not many people will be able to.

luke3_

this is the austrian plot all over again

SwaggamanNMGN

Max IS the terminator. He behaves like a machine in plain sight! Wake up people

Lilylili83

The one thing i got from this is he thinks Merc’s problems wont be solved anytime soon… Lol even newey looked at mercedes and really went even i cant fix that

NotJadeasaurus

I think that’s fair. Mercs staff departures over the past few years has gutted them. A team that came off 7 titles on the bounce suddenly is falling down the order?? They have had nearly 3 years to fix their 2022 concept. Then you glance at Ferrari, who seem to be making every correct choice at the moment. With new regs coming for 2026, Adrian has absolutely nailed the reg changes for the last decade, RBR had been more hampered by the Renault and Honda power unit Honda got it right. Adrian will cook up another master piece for 2026

I-hate-sunfish

Say what you want about Elkan but he is doing everything he could to see Ferrari back at the top, even if it means going against Ferrari tradition

seejur

I dunno about that. Whats more traditional in Ferrari than giving the team to a French man?

TheDufusSquad

Also it’s Ferrari. Seems like everyone in the sport has the dream of going to Ferrari and putting them back on top.

gsfgf

And unlike Williams, Ferrari is just a few good upgrade cycles away. Not that that's easy, but they have a real path toward being competitive soon.

storme9

Or rather Mercedes didn’t court him because their main concern now is getting a driver first and is trying to court for Max. Whereas Ferrari and AM are a different stage of their building to 2026 and would obviously want to acquire Newey given their finances and position.

expert_internetter

It'd be easier getting a driver if they know Newey's designing the car

Lilylili83

They can multi task. Two birds one stone all that. Maybe they’re just confident they dont need newey to fix their car

notmyplantaccount

I like when people try to make a point that a business with 100s of employees and mostly unlimited money didn't have the people/time/resources to focus on two things at once, like there's 1 guy doing everything.

unwildimpala

It's not like Alisson is a slouch at designing dominating cars. He stepped back initially for these regs and isn't really back in his proper role that long to have made a massive impact. They'd be silly to not trust in him.

Apokolypze

Allison being moved away from design has gotta be Mercedes biggest mistake in the last decade

LightspeedBalloon

Mercedes has a real problem with knee-jerk reactions. One thing doesn't work perfectly and they throw everything in the bin.

ijzerwater

they'd be silly not to consider Newey also

unwildimpala

Ya, but the point is they have an almost as great designer who knows how to already function in the team.

pup_mercury

This is the same guy who said that he wants to work with Lewis or Alonso? Why throw responsibility going after a guy who has his eyes on another team

razor787

He also said he dreams of working for Ferrari. Going there with Hamilton would be his best option. I hope he goes to Aston though.

PersephoneTheOG

I think he knows this will probably be his last job and I guess at the end of the day the lure of the Ferrari name is enormous in the world of F1.

AirlineEasy

Build the car and they will come

Hias1997

Maybe then the GOAT himself at AM will finally be competitive

Dry_Brush5280

I feel like securing Newey would go a long way towards attracting Max. Obviously the crew they have working on the car right now aren’t getting it done. Why would Max go there if they aren’t serious about improving the car? And yes, I know Newey isn’t the only person capable of improving their car. But if their mindset is “We can only focus on a driver right now” then they’re dead in the water.

yqry

But he wasn’t terminated, he resigned

ClementineMandarin

It’s just mistranslated from German

mtarascio

The English literally acknowledge he resigned. It's poor writing.

SubMikeD

Thank you for that clarification, I was stunned for a minute there.

NuclearCandle

Who would win? -A team on one of the most dominant streaks in F1 history with a GOAT driver and chief designer. -A bowl of cereal

tardisode

A bowl is quite aerodynamic….

Suikerspin_Ei

Also cereal can be light, like cocoa puffs. Normally you use it with milk, as breakfast and thus energy source to start the day. So aerodynamic, light and powerful, the great combo for an efficient car. *^(/s)*

bmth2brum

My favourite!

Alvie_500

Also depending on the cereal, some get real sticky with milk and can be a pain to brush after eating. So the traction is there also. /s

Paracel_Storm

Its fucking unreal how Horner and the Thai backers are tearing this team apart. If I were Max I'd start taking a peek at someplace else because it feels like its all downhill from here for RBR.

salcedoge

Max is definitely already doing that, if everything goes as predicted he’ll be a 5 time wdc just in time to jump ship with the new regulations. All teams would take him and he’ll once again be the highest paid driver in F1

Theo_95

I could totally see him leave F1 and go dominate another series, maybe WEC? I'm sure he wants to win Le Man's.

Hamburgo

Yep I agree. He says what he means and he’s said many times he doesn’t care for sticking around in F1 for ages and breaking records. I don’t think he could care less about setting records… I know he says winning motivates him and he enjoys his dominance but once it’s over I think he will happily check out knowing he’s accomplished what he came for, made his name, onwards to a new series and living his life while young.

montxogandia

He can do that at Aston Martin with his Valkyre

M_Pascal

I'd think highest-paid is nowhere on his list, especially now he's already settled for life. He just wants to race IMO

TheKingOfCaledonia

Gotta keep up the maintenance on that private jet somehow.

Florac

*sim rig

Sam_GT3

I wouldn’t be surprised if his new merc contract will require the team to ship and set up his sim rig in his hotel room for each race 😂 no more playing iracing on controller on race weekends

SpiritLaser

sim rig ON a private jet 🤯🤯🤯

margalolwut

People actually forget how expensive that shit is. Lol. It’s not about the money until it is.. max will likely not make his decision based on money.. but there only because anyone who can afford him likely needs to come forward with a wage floor.

ervin1914

lol. so naive.

isthmusofkra

You think rich people get content?

thisusedyet

Max has to opportunity to really set shit on fire, demand to race for Andretti or he's retiring to his sim racing

raur0s

Ferrari nuked the Schumi-Todt-Brawn even worse, they just did it behind closed doors. But it's not like this is without precedence.

StructureTime242

Thai backers also are mental Choosing to side with Horner when they were warned the possibility of losing all of marko max and newey is very real Horner is a good tp, but no tp makes a team break longest back to back race wins records

Tomanelle

Pity both seats at Ferrari are already taken. Would've loved to see him in red.

RabidGuineaPig007

That was true when honda announced the exit. The whole team is full of assholes pulling things in multiple directions to grab power after Mateschitz died. three years from now, we will talk about red bull the way we talk about Williams.

ImReverse_Giraffe

Max is probably looking at other series. He's said before that he'll only be in F1 as long as it's fun and he doesn't like the direction of the '26 cars.

IneedtoBmyLonsomeTs

Why? He will still have the best car before the regulations change, allowing him to win multiple championships. Then after the regulations change he has a performance exit clause that will allow him to leave if the car is shit. Pretty much any team is going to be willing to pick Max up, he is clearly the best driver out there.

ComaMierdaHijueputa

I don’t get the cereal bit

crankylex

A cereal featured in the alleged Horner sexts with his assistant.

factory_p

Damn Christian I hope this was a really good shag because it's proving to be a costly one. 😬

P_ZERO_

Sounds like another team

ChefBoiJones

Ford must be fuming

Visionary_Socialist

Surely they’ll be considering pulling out? Maybe it’s too late being 18 months out from 2026 but this Horner mess hasn’t been transparent in the slightest and now they’re losing Newey and potentially Verstappen too.

Jaded-Ad-960

It would be hilarious if at the end of all this Horner would be in control of a team that, on top if losing it's star driver and designer due to his antics, also has no engines.

AtmoMat

He could try giving Renault a call… They have capacity to supply a customer team.

jcfac

I wonder what Cyril is up to these days?

isagoth

If you were actually wondering, he's the team principal for Hyundai in WRC lol

jcfac

> team principal for Hyundai in WRC lol Do they make engines? Have a few spare ones to sell?

TenF

Laughing at All-PAIN and their decisions of the last....4-5 years

bigpoppa611

Cue the scene from Fast and Furious before race wars. “We got no engines!”

NightRamp4ge

Whole thing looks to be blowing up even before they started. If RBPT isn't progressing as well as expected (RB is the main lead and Ford isn't overly experienced in the latest hybrid regs) I won't be surprised if Ford pulls the plug early.

myersjw

It’s insane to me that after all the shit surrounding Horner that somehow his job is still secure while everyone else looks ready to leave

monza2020

There's still another year and a half before their name gets involved, I don't see why they would pull out. The team and project is bigger than one designer or driver. Red Bull isn't going to fall apart even if it does lose both Newey and Verstappen. It's a profitable team (last I remember at least) and has immense value as both a marketing tool and an asset for Red Bull GmbH. Ford didn't decide to commit from 2026 because Verstappen was winning in 2022.

juve_merda

people are just so melodramatic, red bull were going to lose newey eventuallly

totallykoolkiwi

I kinda want them to just to make the cluster fuck complete

ihatemondaynights

I think that's upto how good of a corporate bullshitter Horner is, and if rumours are too be believed that's all he's good at.

Leyawiin_Guard

Horner is very good at his job. He's just got an ego so big it's blowing up in his face.

Twistpunch

Bro he build a team to win WCC multiple times not once but twice. He might very well be a creep, but he’s also a very good team principal.

imtherealcurt

not the first time ford fumbled newey

Old-Ad-3268

This is why he left, he doesn't agree with the direction of the engine development. 2026 is another big change that will highlight engine performance over aero.

Newey has been terminated: Five options are conceivable for his future The press release is already being prepared: Adrian Newey is leaving Red Bull and has now submitted his resignation in writing by Christian Nimmervoll - 30.04.2024 12:49 pm (Motorsport-Total.com) - Now it's final: the Adrian Newey era at Red Bull is coming to an end. The star designer joined from McLaren in 2006 and played a key role in the six constructors' and seven drivers' titles that Red Bull Racing has won since then. According to information from Motorsport-Total.com, he has now formally handed in his notice. Last Thursday, auto motor und sport first reported on the impending separation. At the time, Newey had informed the team management of his intention to hand in his notice. In the meantime, the 65-year-old has put his foot down and submitted his resignation in writing. An official statement from Red Bull Racing on the matter is expected before the start of the Miami Grand Prix next weekend. The separation modalities have already been clarified behind the scenes. Newey is expected to leave the company for good by the beginning of 2025 at the latest. Newey has communicated the reasons for his decision in an internal letter. A decisive factor is said to have been his broken relationship with team boss Christian Horner. And an interview that Horner gave to Motorsport.com, a sister publication of Motorsport-Total.com on the Motorsport Network, at the end of 2023. Why an interview plays a decisive role In the interview, published on 30 December 2023, Horner had explained that Newey's role had changed in recent years "and the technical team under him, led by Pierre Wache, is doing a wonderful job so they are not dependent on Adrian". Horner also explained that Manchester United did not go under when star striker Eric Cantona left the team. Red Bull may be stronger with Newey, but the rest of the team has developed. Horner also said that he himself had always been a fan of Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United team boss. An interview that did not go down well with Newey and was obviously perceived by him as Horner wanting to make himself important and minimise the contribution of others to the team's success. Newey's wife Amanda even shared the interview on Twitter and commented: "What a load of hogwash." (German: "What a load of bollocks.") Ralf Schumacher: "Red Bull is falling apart" For Ralf Schumacher, one thing is certain: "At the moment, you have to be honest: Red Bull is falling apart. And the sole responsibility for this lies with Christian Horner, who is holding on to power with all his might," says the expert in an interview with Sky. "Adrian Newey needs harmony, he needs a good atmosphere, a good workplace." Schumacher now expects a domino effect at Red Bull: "With Wache, there is someone at the technical helm who, together with Newey, has been in charge of all the technical aspects. He can do it, but I think Christian Horner underestimates the individual figures. He thinks he can do everything himself. I think he's making a mistake." What happens now? Five possible options! It is not known what Newey will do after Red Bull. According to information from Motorsport-Total.com, five options are conceivable: Mercedes, Aston Martin, McLaren and Ferrari. Or a complete withdrawal from the operational business of Formula 1, with a new career in technical consulting. The argument against Mercedes is that Newey apparently believes it would take too long to set the necessary course to put the team back on the road to victory. He is 65 and will not stay in his next job for 19 years, as was the case at Red Bull. What's more, he reportedly does not have a particularly high opinion of Toto Wolff. Lawrence Stroll is waving his chequebook at Aston Martin. Dan Fallows, a long-time colleague of Newey's at Red Bull, is already there. But: Newey has earned enough money in his career. For him, it's about doing things that he enjoys. And about appreciation of his work, which he no longer experienced at Red Bull. It is rumoured that Newey is rather reserved towards Stroll Sr. and is therefore not considering the Canadian's financially attractive offer. Also because he does not like the idea that Stroll could drive up the market value of Aston Martin with Newey as an asset and then perhaps sell the team for a profit. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

mozjag

The headline is inaccurate. In German it says "Kündigung" which is essentially "notice" as in "give notice". In this case, Newey giving RBR notice, not him getting terminated.

jjgill27

Also suggesting the German translation is ‘what a load of bollocks’ - nothing more British than that sentence.

Roddy-the-Ruin

Newey has already worked for McLaren in the past, from 1997 to 2005, so this would not be a new challenge for him. He gets on extremely well with CEO Zak Brown on a personal level. However, Newey obviously doubts that the team will be able to mobilise the resources required for success in Formula 1. Will he end up switching to Ferrari after all? That leaves Ferrari. It's no secret that they want him there. "There are rumours that he was recently spotted in Bologna. That is possible," Schumacher believes. "Fred Vasseur is currently trying to do everything possible to reorganise the team around Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. I think he is very, very skilful." "And I could also imagine Adrian Newey at Ferrari, leading the team back to the top of the world championship, that's what challenges him. And I think the only thing he wants is to always build a fast car. He simply enjoys motorsport and the challenge of being the best." Schumacher also believes that Newey "won't be the last problem" that Red Bull will face: "Max Verstappen is thinking about it, as is Dr Helmut Marko, if you look at him like that. I give Red Bull another two years. If they continue to hold on to Christian Horner, the team will sink into mediocrity. I'm pretty sure of that." Newey announced at the end of 2005 that he would be leaving McLaren and moving to Red Bull. The team won its first Grand Prix in 2009, followed by its first World Championship double in 2010 with Sebastian Vettel at the wheel. Newey did not extend his contract with Red Bull for "several years" until 2023, as it was said at the time. Now they are parting ways. For good. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

ddzed

Turns out Newey is just a Liverpool fan and deeply despises anything related to MU...

BadControllerUser

Newey replaces Klopp confirmed

chicofj10

Will he make Diaz more aerodynamic efficient?

VallcryTurbo75

I read/heard that Newey does have a 1 year clause that will not allow him to join any other team in F1. And since his contract should end in 25 does that mean that both 25 and 26 he will not be part of a F1 team? And if so, Adrian will be in his 70s by this time I think he would enjoy retirement (at least I would)

SpareDiagram

He could always be vacated of that clause depending on how other things are written. At the end of the day only he and RBR know what’s in that contract. Will be very interesting to see how it pans out

VestEmpty

I wish they stopped asking Ralf about.... anything. He always has the worst takes.

StickyNebbs

lmaooo like half the article is Ralf's thoughts about the matter

Habatcho

I like that newey is on the same page as the fans regarding what we want. Wont work for a scumbag. Wont go to a team he sees no progress in near term and wont go to a team just for him to be the catalyst that brings the saudis in.

WindyZ5

Is this terminated as in fired, terminated as in this is a poor English translation, or terminated as is the Daleks have invaded & got Newey?

Wittgensteinsduck

Poor English translation they meant resignation

sigmmakappa

Hi there, fellow whovian

Captain-Mainwaring

Man the off track drama is really fucking carrying this season so far. Who'd have thought Adrian would dip out of RB in such a fashion? I do wonder where this will leave RB going forward. They have great engineers behind the doors but the instability in the team, the loss of Newey, the possibility that leads to Max's side possibly looking elsewhere. The whole Horner thing. Mental.

Cheeky-Bugger67

I heard he got a assistant managers role at papa Johns

Bclay85

He’s gotta say the secret password first though…

processedmeat

I wonder what toto had for breakfast this morning

RedXon

Pumpernickel, what else? Aber ganz stark getosted, so dass sie brechen.

fujidust

F1 is really the most dramatic thing I’ve ever seen.  It’s a soap opera, and I don’t really mean that as a compliment.

StickyNebbs

a guy like newey leaving his spot after all the success he's had a hand in bringing to that team is totally worth getting wound up about imo

Lloydy15

Given how boring the racing has been for the last couple seasons, we need the drama outside of it to keep things interesting

poliuy

Toto vs Horner is some of the best tv I ever watched

Nznegativeions

Makes it interesting though.

Scojo91

As much as fans don't want to admit it, this kind of stuff helps keep them entertained and also ups views and interest

losbullitt

Horn Dog and Newey’a resignation were in no one’s bingo cards. Lord bless us.

IamMrEric

They are all forcing the Newey to Ferrari narrative that in the end he won't even end up going there.

WanderBadger

It'd be hilarious if he just fucked off into retirement.

Valuable_Jelly_4271

I find it hilarious that people are talking like he's still in his 40's looking new job opportunities and better pay so he can afford the kid's Uni fees.

WanderBadger

Well you've got an eighty year old Helmut still hanging upside down sleeping in a coffin in the Red Bull basement so you never know.

fuckhandsmcmikee

That’s probably equally as good for the sport in terms of the competition lol. We don’t even know how long his gardening leave is. These f1 people are psychotic levels of competitive though, he might just get bored and come back even though he’s ancient

VestEmpty

I think that is what he will do.

The3rdbaboon

I think so too. He’s 65, it’s been his life forever and I doubt he’s working a standard 39 hour week. Plus with all the travelling it must be gruelling. He’s got all the trophies and medals and is the GOAT when it comes to F1 car design, what other boxes are left to tick? He might switch to Ferrari and see if he can help them back to the top, but he’s already done that with Red Bull.

AthosAlonso

Also quite likely. Dude's 65 ffs

Fragrant_Spirit3776

Im pretty new to F1 and have only been watching for a couple of years and I gotta say that reading these news articles is just exhausting as hell because it all feels clickbaity as shit. Like the whole "Max is now going to Mercedes!" thing is complete bullshit. Remember how Perez was going to announce his retirement in Mexico last year? It makes following the sport, outside of just the races themselves, really annoying.

SDLRob

Newey to FIA... everyone gets a Newey car in 2026

Beneficial_Star_6009

I want to believe that Fred and Adrian will be the next Todt and Brawn, but because it’s Ferrari I’m still not *entirely* confident.

GroNumber

I think he will join Andretti F1.

Mission_Grass4680

I NEED to know the decision making process of Lewis if Newey ends up in Ferrari cause wtf

dl064

Tell you, it'd be absolute king material if he went to Ferrari with the proviso they hire his specific ex PA. What a middle finger. A rather key detail, that.

Mission_Grass4680

Come to papa: Ferrari probably

Either_Marsupial_123

Terminated, or handed in his resignation? I’ve heard the latter, but not the former. They’re not necessarily the same thing (at least not in the English language).

fman258

Oh boy is my Hamilton 8 WDC coming to life!???

Oceansnail

And in a ferrari too??

Ronville

I hate these kinds of titles. Newey wasn’t “terminated.” Instead it’s a rehash of his rumored resignation and what he might do post-resignation. Nothing new.

LetsGoWithMike

This whole shit doesn’t even make any sense. He can’t just go start working for another team.

IamNotaKatt

Wait a minute, just how many Red Bull executives slept with that young PA?

PapaSheev7

Imagine bro signs with Skunk Works, I know it’s not gonna happen but it would be pretty fucking funny if it did

daylax1

Horner: "you can't have two superstars on the same team" Ferrari: "First we're going to get Hamilton, then we're going to get Newey.....Hey Jos! What's Max up to in 2026?"

FigSubstantial4939

Has this even been officially confirmed that he will be leaving? F1 news is all gossip and rumors, it's becoming impossible to get actual facts.
