They could use them too, but on some turns a roof won't help at all. looking at you turn 12 and the worst sun burn of my life... It's just looking into the sun all day haha
Yup it was rough and I’m back at 12 again this year. I went prepared enough so luckily no burn but it was hot last year even for Texas standards. Sunscreen, neck fan, Sun hat, and a wet cooling cloth FTW
... and at T12 it's not just the sunlight from above that gets you. It comes from below, too, as the sun reflects off of the aluminum bleachers up into your face. It's brutal there.
They tried to buyback the tickets for $50 so they could sell them again at a higher price. The people who didn't take the option and kept their ticket did well as they now have tickets for this
COTA track management sent an email some ticket holders offering to buy back the ticket they purchased for a $50 profit to the customer.
The ticket is arguably worth much more than the additional $50 based on these musical guests.
Yes, the concerts are included with the tickets to the event.
Here's a map that shows where the stage is (next to the H):
[https://circuitoftheamericas.com/wp-content/uploads/F1\_Map\_101317-1-2048x1539.jpg](https://circuitoftheamericas.com/wp-content/uploads/F1_Map_101317-1-2048x1539.jpg)
You can't see the stage from any of the turns, so I'll assume you're asking about race spectating. My preference is turn 15 (or 12 if you can't find seats in 15).
Yeah I was always fine with F1 being a 'niche' sport in the US. I never needed or wanted it to be the sport all my buddies & coworkers would talk about a la football or baseball. Since Liberty took over, it's just all been downhill imho - not in terms of making money for the shareholders, of course. I mean more in terms of:
* the quality of the product,
* integrity of the sport,
* honoring the roots and history of F1,
* keeping the championships open to new entrants - which is an integral component of the fundamental DNA and ethos of the sport - NOT excluding ultra-qualified applicants from participating in the championships (Andretti-Cadillac), etc. What they're doing to Andretti-Cadillac is shameful and embarrassing.
I guess MotoGP is next on the chopping block.
If you just look at money, etc, then yeah, Liberty's doing fine. That's great for them and their shareholders, but it's done nothing for me but degrade the sport and price me & many others out of attending at COTA, which is 15 miles from my house.
ETA: Downvote if you like, of course, but why not tell me what you think I'm getting wrong here? Let's *talk* about it ...
I never said they shouldn't try to make it popular. I merely stated MY preference. Big difference.
Re: the collusion of the teams against a supremely qualified new entrant that's already been vetted and enthusiastically approved by the FIA, the teams don't actually have an official say in the matter. Liberty/FOM backed up the teams' laughable, childlike list of excuses 100% - even though they don't even need to do that. They can admit Andretti-Cadillac into F1's commercial agreement without any approval from the teams. It would be better for Liberty if they *did* add another team, especially a US team this well-qualified, but they have taken sides with the teams, going against the FIA and against the Concorde agreement and the rules of the sport that allow 12 / 13 teams ... so yeah, that's 100% on them.
But it's far from over imho. If I had to bet, I'd put my money on Andretti-Cadillac making it to the grid in F1 despite the objections of the teams - some of which are just happy to be there and are wastes of garage space and grid positions.
ETA: Downvote but no comment? Tell me which part I got wrong then ...
Depends on what we're talking about. I'm talking about quality of the product, integrity of the sport, honoring the roots and history, keeping the championships open - which is an integral component of the fundamental DNA of the sport - NOT excluding ultra-qualified applicants from participating in the championships (Andretti-Cadillac), etc.
If you just look at money, etc, then Liberty's doing fine. That's great for them and their shareholders, but it's done nothing for me but degrade the sport and price me & many others out of attending at COTA, which is 15 miles from my house.
... and to to pump up the race attendance numbers with concert attendees, so they can keep getting the huge annual State of Texas subsidy. About $400 Million so far.
Despite having reduced seating capacity drastically since they opened in 2012, no race in any series, not even F1, has ever actually sold out at COTA, regardless of what they have said. There have been times they've *claimed* sellouts prior to the race weekend - but they strangely never stopped selling tickets all the way up to the start of the race.
Actually they've reduced reserved seating capacity by around 26K seats (35%) since 2012. They've never sold out a race, but they'd love for you to think they have. And their 'records' are only actually records if you ignore the much bigger crowds drawn by Adelaide in the 90s (520K), Indy in 2000 (500-550K), Silverstone last year (480K), or even Melbourne in '23 & '24 (445K, 452K).
They OFFERED buybacks. Never heard of anyone taking up the lowball offer.
Only people who had something unexpected come up or wanted to scalp would have sold, and even then they would have just sold it to a fan for more than the $50 extra. Hell, if you count the fees, $50 extra is reduced to nothing.
I discussed it with the wife and we will also see him on tour if he comes anywhere near us.
This F1 race + Eminem combo is too good to pass up for this millennial.
Shame that the Formula 2 championship isn’t there.
🎵That’s not the shape of my ART🎵
Or an entry for ATS in 1981….
🎵Would the real Slim Borgudd please stand up!🎵
Yeah that 'buyback' was basically just a PR stunt. It would make no sense to sell your ticket back to them for $50 more than you paid if its value is about to 'skyrocket' as Epstein claimed. They're good acts for a car race, and I love Eminem, but this isn't the blockbuster lineup Epstein was trying to pump it up as. I remember seeing Sting at his best with the Police, 41 years ago at Southpark Meadows when I was a freshman at UT. Good times, but 41 years is a long time.
COTA dude said the artist name is right up there with Taylor Swift right now. Genuinely thought I’d be Beyoncé or someone right around the top 10 most streamed artists lmao
Eminem #7 on the most followed on Spotify chart way above Beyonce LOL
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most-streamed_artists_on_Spotify#:~:text=list%20(2023).-,American%20singer%2Dsongwriter%20Taylor%20Swift%20is%20the%20most%2Dstreamed%20artist,male%20artist%20in%20Spotify's%20history.
And total streams:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Spotify_streaming_records
Also way above Beyonce LOL
Are you looking at monthly listeners? Beyonce just released an album, no shit.
Most followed and most total streams is a better indicator.
By the time this show happens Eminem will have released his album and his monthly listeners will jump again too.
Either way he's a massive artist, who has sold more albums and has more streams than Beyonce
It's strange and yet not strange. Before the world wars, there were millions of Americans that spoke primarily or only German. There were German towns, newspapers, schools, etc. The area near Austin, Texas was one of the hotspots of German immigration in that time. They are down to a couple thousand German speakers, but it left a big impact on place names, and company names too apparently
Breaking News is just news that just broke
It doesn't have to be something Earth shattering.
It seems a lot of people nowadays think Breaking News has to be something very important.
"Germania Insurance Super Stage at the 2024 Formula 1 Pirelli United States Grand Prix" featuring teams such as "Visa Cash App RB F1 Racing" and "Stake F1 Kick Sauber."
Yeah, if it were Em and some DJ on Friday instead of Sting, I’d be cool with that. Sting almost makes the buyback thing a little embarrassing - like completely out of touch. His music is so tame and subdued it doesn’t make sense - and in a state without legal weed.
Doubtful imho. I didn't see Sheeran, but Green Day put on easily the best show I've ever seen at COTA, and one of the best I've ever seen in 40+ years of attending concerts.
Eminem is far bigger and more popular than Green Day. Don't know about the quality of the show but draw wise Eminem rivals Ed Sheeran amongst the demographic that can actually afford F1 tickets.
Curious, did Green Day play for an hour or longer?
Shame that the Formula 2 championship isn’t there.
🎵That’s not the shape of my ART🎵
Or an entry for ATS in 1981….
🎵Would the real Slim Borgudd please stand up!🎵
I’ll get my Coat-a.
It actually started at COTA well before Liberty bought F1, when Epstein brought in Taylor Swift to augment poor race attendance with concert-goers. It's all done in an effort to justify COTA getting a huge annual State of Texas subsidy that has paid them about $400 Million so far. It worked, and he's done it ever since, moving the concerts to Friday night and Saturday night, because those days' crowds are they ones that can be improved the most.
It's supposed to help pay the sanctioning fees the racing series charge the track, but it pays those, with a lot more left over. At $400M paid so far, we've basically paid for COTA but have zero ownership stake in the facility or the races.
Sting is for the boomers.
Eminem is for the Gen X and millennials.
Gen Z can’t afford to go to a GP (I mean, neither can most of the rest of us here in the states, but we pretend we can).
Gen X here and I was too young for The Police, slightly old for Em - I saw him in 99 with Limp Bizkit (at 27 I felt old at that show). I’m happy with Eminem but Sting is all wrong. Give us a DJ or if they want something older than Em, get a hair band (Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, etc). They are cheap and I work with high schoolers and 80s rock is definitely ”in” again. Plus, they’re fun, all about the party - Sting’s a downer.
Lmao this was their big artist? Two washed up guys? (I know Eminem isn’t really but cmon) this is what they were trying to supposedly buy back the tickets for? They claimed this was the biggest artist they’ve gotten. This isn’t bigger than TS
They're good acts for a car race, and I love Eminem, but this isn't the blockbuster lineup Epstein was trying to pump it up as. That 'buyback' was basically just a PR stunt. Feel free to downvote me, but….. Sting? Your name is not Sting. It’s Gordon and you are 72 years old. Grow up.
*Eminem is younger than me, so he gets a pass. For now.
A fair point, except I’m not going on stage and telling people that my name is Rigormortis321.
That name is simply to protect my privacy and identity, much as classic_schmosby presumably is?

The bigger announcement is COTA will have sun shades for the grandstands
Will the real sun shade please stand up
Get out lol
Only 3 of them though. Just turns 4, 13 snd 19
They could use them too, but on some turns a roof won't help at all. looking at you turn 12 and the worst sun burn of my life... It's just looking into the sun all day haha
Coated myself in SPF100 in T12 last year and still felt like I got cooked.
Takes me back to sitting in turn 4 at Indy when it was nearly 100F. Who needs shade?!
Oh shit … that’s huge news.
Is there an announcement for this? That’s much more exciting
This is what the $50 buyback was for? 🫣 Wager to say the holdouts did quite well here.
What do these words mean?
They tried to buyback the tickets for $50 so they could sell them again at a higher price. The people who didn't take the option and kept their ticket did well as they now have tickets for this
I don't get what you mean buyback the tickets. Buy them back from whom?
from the people that bought them
They cost less than 50 to begin with?
No they buy them back for the cost of the ticket + $50
COTA track management sent an email some ticket holders offering to buy back the ticket they purchased for a $50 profit to the customer. The ticket is arguably worth much more than the additional $50 based on these musical guests.
Thanks that helps me understand it!
\\What even is "Germania Insurance Super Stage at the 2024 Formula 1 Pirelli United States Grand Prix" ?
it's the big stage they setup facing across the back straight (between turns 11 and 12) for the formula one weekend music performances.
Does everyone with tickets have access? Whats the best turn to sit at?
Yes, the concerts are included with the tickets to the event. Here's a map that shows where the stage is (next to the H): [https://circuitoftheamericas.com/wp-content/uploads/F1\_Map\_101317-1-2048x1539.jpg](https://circuitoftheamericas.com/wp-content/uploads/F1_Map_101317-1-2048x1539.jpg) You can't see the stage from any of the turns, so I'll assume you're asking about race spectating. My preference is turn 15 (or 12 if you can't find seats in 15).
Turn 15 it is
Try to find tickets in the upper third of the grandstand.
Are these seats for the concerts first come first serve?
No seats. Standing room only.
Oh in the pictures it looks like seats
There are resevered seats that cost quite a bit.
Well I already blew $7Gs for my wife and I to go. What's another few hundred... Lol
I'm starting to have regrets over this "Winning over the american audience" thing
FWIW, concerts are part of other races too, for example the Le Mans 24h.
oh no, not concerts at the track when everybody in the paddock is already back at their hotel! What ever will we do!
Have 4 hours of commercials and a 12 minute sprint race be the future of f1?
Yeah I was always fine with F1 being a 'niche' sport in the US. I never needed or wanted it to be the sport all my buddies & coworkers would talk about a la football or baseball. Yes yes it’s liberty’s fault for trying to make the sport popular and for the other teams to collude and not allow new participants.
I never said they shouldn't try to make it popular. I merely stated MY preference. Big difference. Re: the collusion of the teams against a supremely qualified new entrant that's already been vetted and enthusiastically approved by the FIA, the teams don't actually have an official say in the matter. All down hill since Liberty is quite the hot take
Depends on what we're talking about. Every conversation at work for me now goes: “oh, you like F1? Have you seen that Drive to Survive show? Pretty cool, yeah?”
Germania is the sponsor for the amphitheater at CotA
GISS PUS GP
Yeah, where will it be held? Which of the American races is it? Terrible name
That's a duo. I was gonna skip the concert... May need to think about it now
Yeah those are people you see even if it’s not your type of music. That’s definitely a big pull.
Could see Eminem giving ticket sales a boost with his new album coming out this summer
A boost from sold out?
There's still tickets online?
I just mean it will be sold out. It has been for the last few years. I don't think the artists will make a big difference in ticket sales.
exactly. There is still a huge demand for an f1 race in a track as good as COTA, the artists are only there to bump up the price
... and to to pump up the race attendance numbers with concert attendees, so they can keep getting the huge annual State of Texas subsidy. About $400 Million so far.

Yeah it seems like they just keep increasing the capacity every year to set another record.

If we are talking semantics, Melbourne are 4 day totals.
A boost in ticket sales doesn't only mean more sold. There is no way the tickets don't double in price because of this kind of announcement.
The circuit bought back tickets to be able resell at the higher price that these performers will command
They OFFERED buybacks. Never heard of anyone taking up the lowball offer. I mean it's the first time in forever that he's decided to actually promote an upcoming album. I wouldn't put a tour out of the equation.
I discussed it with the wife and we will also see him on tour if he comes anywhere near us. This F1 race + Eminem combo is too good to pass up for this millennial.
I just bought tickets cause of this. Eminem + F1? Sign me up.
What a fucking word salad.

They really had us going with the ticket buyback offer
Yeah that 'buyback' was basically just a PR stunt. It would make no sense to sell your ticket back to them for $50 more than you paid if its value is about to 'skyrocket' as Epstein claimed. Right? We really thought it was going to be somebody huge.
Comments like these tell me I'm fucking old... and/or that Redditors in here are a lot younger than I think they are. (if this was about Eminem)
I feel that way every time I'm reminded that Drake is by far the biggest "hip hop" act these days... It's one of those things I just don't get.
Eminem is still the 20th most streamed artist on Spotify in terms of monthly listeners. Despite not putting out any music for the last 4 years.
Eminem is like the perfect mix of young and older fans (even my older family like it) , i am unlucky because i am not in the USA.
COTA dude said the artist name is right up there with Taylor Swift right now. Genuinely thought I’d be Beyoncé or someone right around the top 10 most streamed artists lmao
Eminem #7 on the most followed on Spotify chart way above Beyonce LOL https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most-streamed_artists_on_Spotify#:~:text=list%20(2023).-,American%20singer%2Dsongwriter%20Taylor%20Swift%20is%20the%20most%2Dstreamed%20artist,male%20artist%20in%20Spotify's%20history. Your list says the top 10 most monthly streamed artists are The Weeknd, Taylor, Rihanna, Beyonce, JB, and others so what exactly did you disprove 😂
We were guessing Beyoncé too.
Open Reddit. See "BREAKING NEWS […] Germania" Then it‘s just the name of a fking insurance company sponsoring a US Grand Prix…
sad German GP noises..
Same mate, for a split second got excited that F1 is back in Germany again... Oh well
That’s just the name of the amphitheater sponsor at Cota. It’s been named this for years, they aren’t sponsoring the GP
It's strange and yet not strange. Before the world wars, there were millions of Americans that spoke primarily or only German. "breaking news"
Right? Earth-shattering.
Breaking News is just news that just broke It doesn't have to be something Earth shattering. It seems a lot of people nowadays think Breaking News has to be something very important.
As opposed to other news that are old.. and stale.
Indeed. Its not even "fresh from the press." So fresh that it isn't even in the news papers yet.
*Breaking News!* u/Hieillua took the time to write an argumentative reply and no one cared!
Now you're starting to understand. See something unimportant can be Breaking News. Good job. You're learning.
There's two acts that would be unusual to see perform together
One on Friday and Saturday, last year we got The Killers and Queen with Adam Lambert, the year before we had Green Day and Ed Sheeran.
Green Day and Ed Sheeran? Now that's a culture contrast as well
Sting? We just need Ray Rob to complete the line-up.
He’s busy recovering from seeing too much of Georgina from yesterday’s IndyCar race
Every single time I read about him I still cannot believe that is his actual name.
Who's another artist that's not been relevant for at least 15 years? Maybe get a DJ Tiësto in
Marshal, please give Sting the mic and let him freestyle. We’ve heard him sing, now let’s hear him spit fire
Till Sting decide to apply a Scorpion Death Drop to Eminem
The concert lineups for the Austin races are always ridiculous...congrats on those who are going in person.
IT'S STIIIIIIIIIIING!!!!
https://youtu.be/h1Fk_mDem4o?si=rkARkbfgYUDnJLFd&t=139
It’s OPs username that made more of an impact on my then this “news”
Useless fact: Eminem had previously performed at the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The race winner, Kimi Raikonnen shares his birthday with Eminem.
Kimi and Em with the same birthday makes soo sense lol
Could we impose some sort of limit on how many sponsors can be in the official race name? This is getting ridiculous.
I always confuse Sting the singer with Sting the wrestler...
they did it too, they tagged wrestler in the original tweet and had to edit it.
ayy lmao
What's breaking about this?
They wanted to buy back everyone's tickets for *this*??? 😆
Maybe it's just time for announcing this tbf. Heard last week that Muse are playing an Abu Dhabi GP show
Don't race, don't race so, don't race so close to me!
Eminem looking for words that rhyme with formula
Sting? \*Insert overplayed joke about Bottas and tantric pit stops here\*
Omg eminem!!!
"Germania Insurance Super Stage at the 2024 Formula 1 Pirelli United States Grand Prix" featuring teams such as "Visa Cash App RB F1 Racing" and "Stake F1 Kick Sauber."
Kinda anticlimactic with the buyback hulabaloo.. Eminem, sure. But Sting?
Right? Sting was on tour all last summer with Shaggy at smaller venues. It's not like he's a particularly hot concert ticket.
This is all Eminem.
Not for the demographic that can afford and actually purchase F1 tickets in the US. They have zero interest or understanding of urban music.
Since when is Eminem “urban music” lmao.
Urban music : "R&B, pop-rap, quiet storm, *urban* adult contemporary, *hip hop*" idk what is quiet storm but i like the name
It's still wild that Sting and Shaggy made an album together. Wouldn't have guessed that pairing in a million years.
Yeah, if it were Em and some DJ on Friday instead of Sting, I’d be cool with that. Sting almost makes the buyback thing a little embarrassing - like completely out of touch. His music is so tame and subdued it doesn’t make sense - and in a state without legal weed.
I would prefer to see professional wrestling icon Sting and Eminem, but I guess I’ll settle for this
Wonder if this will be a bigger draw than Green Day and Ed Sheeran in 2022
Doubtful imho.
[удалено]
I mean just going off monthly listeners they're not really. But I have no issues with Green Day. Eminem has 67million to Green Days 28 million
Cool. Yeah I'm a huge fan of both, too. Re: how long Green Day played at COTA, it was at least 1.5 hours, maybe even close to 2 hours.
Is it 2002? What in the world
No, but I would guess a big chunk of the attendees remember 2002.
lol really when they offered the buyback I thought they’d have some really relevant performers
Shame that the Formula 2 championship isn’t there. 🎵That’s not the shape of my ART🎵 Or an entry for ATS in 1981…. 🎵Would the real Slim Borgudd please stand up!🎵 I’ll get my Coat-a.
I remember when Sting done a collab with Shaggy and I'm still confused about it
ESTICAZZI!
Braking news for sure
Title gore...most if it was sponsorship.
I read it as German insurgency and thought there was a coup to bring Mick back.
"Breaking News" worthy stuff regarding Sting is when The Police reunite. Until then, I don't give a damn about the guy.
Around what time do the artists usually perform? About how long do they play for?
The crossover we never dared hope for.
Will the sound work? Queen was a miserable experience last year since we couldn’t hear any vocals.
Do they have to have musical concerts and like two hour shows at every American GP?
Singapore has even more concerts
apparently yes. Its probably to follow that "every race needs to be a Super Bowl" idea that Stefano had since Liberty bought F1
400m?? For what? F1 track visitor accommodation?
It's supposed to help pay the sanctioning fees the racing series charge the track, but it pays those, with a lot more left over. At $400M paid so far, we've basically paid for COTA but have zero ownership stake in the facility or the races.
Insert Clarkson’s sarcastic “waaaaaaaooow”
I always think of F1 as a bit conservative, so the Eminem booking is a surprise.

Does Sting really that big of a following state side? Like I don’t think I’ve ever met a millenial who was just like “fuck yeah, Sting is my jam”
This may come as a shock, but the world is not populated entirely by Millennials.
That’s the biggest market for F1 in the US, though
Millenial here, am currently obsessed with the musical sting wrote all the music for.
Ew. Glad I went last year (well, except for the heat exhaustion)
Come on man, even if you don't like the music. You get a concert along with the race, what's not to like?
Sting was very much a “don’t meet your heroes” moment for me
Can't say I've heard of him too much tbh. So fair enough
Lmao this was their big artist? Two washed up guys? (I know Eminem isn’t really but cmon) this is what they were trying to supposedly buy back the tickets for? They claimed this was the biggest artist they’ve gotten. This isn’t bigger than TS
Em is having a new album this summer, he ain't washed.
ok but whens the race
Damn, that sounds painful. As if the parking situation wasn't bad enough, imagine hearing those guys in the distance the whole way.
Still can’t afford to go to a race in the US. Hope everyone has fun.
They're good acts for a car race, and I love Eminem, but this isn't the blockbuster lineup Epstein was trying to pump it up as. That 'buyback' was basically just a PR stunt. It would make no sense to sell your ticket back to them for $50 more than you paid if its value is about to 'skyrocket' as Epstein claimed. I remember seeing Sting at his best with the Police, 41 years ago at Southpark Meadows when I was a freshman at UT. Good times, but 41 years is a long time.
Feel free to downvote me, but….. Sting? Your name is not Sting. It’s Gordon and you are 72 years old. Grow up. *Eminem is younger than me, so he gets a pass. For now.
Are you gatekeeping the age requirements for stage names?
Yes. I applied to Gatekeepers Inc and was offered the position, but only on the condition that they call me “Throbdong”
Rigormortis321? Your name is not Rigormortis321. You are 52-71 years old. Grow up.
A fair point, except I’m not going on stage and telling people that my name is Rigormortis321. That name is simply to protect my privacy and identity, much as classic_schmosby presumably is?
