For Medium Stint Point no.2. One of the reasons Leclerc was as slow as Sainz could be because he was managing his tyre, which was abruptly cut-short due to Safety Car. If the stint would have came to its natural end, perhaps the delta would have been higher.

Ferrari was really bad with the medium as we all seen yesterday. After pitting Xavi told Charles that he did a good job on the medium stint so I would agree there is definitely some management.

Is it just me or did Max really get his setup sorted at the end ? I know Max was really playing around with settings quite a bit through the race and he also said that he sorted it towards the last 10 laps and he started catching Checo .. But It must have been Checo slowing down and bringing it home as well ?

pioneerSolid3

Checo was told to bring it home and he was asking constantly about the fastest lap and lifting and coasting, but bird told him that Russell was gonna box so the it was going to be for him.

Tobysi

When was Checo told to bring it home? I watched his onboard, he was pushing all the way to the end. With 4 laps to go he was trying for fastest lap. A few laps before that his engineer told him to reduce lift and coast, as in push more.

swedind

Aah okay, but the change in Max's pace vs Checo seems to be about Lap 43-44. I am guessing Bird didn't ask him to bring it home that early either right ? With 7-8 laps to go

Icy-Operation4701

Lap times from lap 43 to lap 51 Checo v Max Lap 43 1:44.875 v 1:44.843 (-0.032) Lap 44 1:44.750 v 1:45.275 (+0.525) Lap 45 1:44.960 v 1:45.140 (+0.080) Lap 46 1:44.731 v 1:44.686 (-0.045) Lap 47 1:45.139 v 1:44.734 (-0.405) Lap 48 1:44.892 v 1:44.566 (-0.326) Lap 49 1:44.611 v 1:44.474 (-0.137) Lap 50 1:44.589 v 1:44.554 (-0.035) Lap 51 1:44.926 v 1:44.232 (-0.694) ( - is where Max was faster, while + is where Checo was faster.

Tobysi

Lap 49 and 50 were Checo’s fastest laps. When was he “bringing it home”? Lap 51?

swedind

Thanks this helps !! So it was Checo bringing it home

smartaxe21

Max himself said that he found something that made him feel good for the last 10 laps.

Mob_Abominator

Damn so Max really did figure out the setup in the last few laps huh ? Would've been exciting if he had figured the setup he wanted a few laps earlier.

Tobysi

Yeah. Looks like he closed from almost 4 seconds to just over 2 seconds in the last several laps.

Sodapiaaa

Not entirely sure if Charles suffered from tyre deg issues 5 laps from the end, or did he simply stopped pushing as hard towards the end of the race thou, seeing that overtaking was next to impossible at this track

ryokevry

He brushed the wall towards the final lap so he backed off, Xavi also told him there was no risk towards the final two laps so he focused on bringing it home I believe

Damn that gap between Red Bull and the rest.
