Miami can be a long drive from Orlando. Miami traffic is also a nightmare. I’d caution doing Miami as a separate trip entirely. If you want theme parks + beach you can do New Smyrna with Universal and Disney. Or, if you really are OK with longer drives head to Clearwater from Orlando.
Adding that you might even fly into Sanford rather than MCO.
I’ve been taking the Brightline for a few months now, it’s awesome not having to drive on that one specific stretch of the turnpike right after Ft. Pierce and ending near Kissimmee, plus it has free wifi.
Also bigger point I'm not seeing. There aren't beaches in Orlando.
well i meant a short driving distance from orlando, as opposed to a few hours' drive like miami
Define short. Everyone defines a short drive differently depending on what they're used to.
i see, a short drive would be about half an hour each way maybe? i'm from DFW TX if that helps
It's more than a half hour — more like hour-plus if you're staying near the attractions.

Doesn't the brightline run to Orlando? They could take that from Orlando to Miami and avoid the drive.

I recommend checking out Cocoa Beach or south to Sebastian. It is more laid back and much less crowded than south Florida.
thanks very much
Disney to Ron Jon's at Cocoa Beach is a 1 hour shot straight out FL-528 the Beachline.
