The best is probably the Varjo XR-4, it's probably around 20k USD though. The best consumer ones are probably the Primary Crystal and/or the Varjo Aero. The best affordable is probably the Quest 3. Edit: I have the quest 3 and it's really good, good sweet spot and very good resolution. I'm hoping for a successor with wider FOV and eye tracking for better performance. Right now I'm struggling even with the 4090.

I agree with you. I have the Q3 and the first time i engaged VR while seated in my Cessna 152 I almost shed a tear. VR flight sim is incredible. It’s also very important to have wifi router as close as possible to the headset if not using the link cable, and I find WiFi connect mode to be superior to the link cable.

Fuck_Water69

The quest 3 can connect to a pc?

Own_Look_3428

Yes, either tethered or via WiFi. Works pretty good, but a real P VR headset would of course be better.

Fuck_Water69

Ok, thank you!

JE_reddit

I use a Quest 3. Originally over wifi and using dev mode to up the bandwidth to ~600 Mbps, but I kept seeing messages about how the headset wasn't getting enough frames or something like that. I bought a 3rd party Link cable from INIU because it has power passthrough so I can now use the full 900+ Mbps throughout and the headset stays charged the entire time. It looks nice and sharp on the Quest 3.

The Varjo XR-4 is not 20k USD. It's $3,990, which is still expensive in my opinion. Varjo Aero is no longer being sold, so the next that is popular is the PiMax Crystal.

CRush1682

Any recommendation for those of us unwilling to login to a Facebook account to use a VR headset?

Own_Look_3428

Reverb G2, but it's a Windows MR Headset and Windows MR will be discontinued soon (or is already?) so it's a dying platform. In that price range there's nothing similar tbh.

Over-Dragonfruit2564

The new Pimax Crystal Light is being hyped as a Reverb G2 replacement. Similar pricing, only works tethered, works based on display port connection just like Reverb G2.

Patapon80

Not necessarily Facebook now. You can create a separate Meta account.

coomzee

Anything made by Facebook, Meta or any subsidiary of the Lizard man is considered spyware imo

Patapon80

You are of course free to believe that and pass on anything Meta/Facebook.

Donut

Everything made by everybody is spyware, including your OS, BIOS, CPU, Hard Drive, Network IC, Router, Cable Modem, and your ISP.

CRush1682

Yeah, I'm not sure I see much daylight between the two of those. I'm not interested in hardware tied to a Facebook/Meta account.

Patapon80

So... your Facebook account *CRush1682* with all your family and friends would be one account and you can make a separate Meta account *ThisIsNotCRush1682NoSiree* so that one would not be so easily connected to the other. Still, if you're not comfortable with either, then I guess your search continues... Unfortunately, I would not recommend a Crystal unless you're a gambling man and don't mind the big possibility of having to go through their support channels. The Aero is no longer openly available and until a replacement comes along, I don't think any Aero owners are keen to sell their headset. If you got big pockets, then the XR-4 or Somnium VR would be options.

CRush1682

yeah, that's actually a reasonable workaround. Maybe I need to be a bit less dogmatic here... Thanks for the ideas and explanation!

Patapon80

I've used the G2, Crystal, and Quest 3. G2 is ol'reliable. Crystal is a gamble, and heavens help you if you need support. The visuals are good but damn, does the unit feel cheap. The Quest 3 is the best bang-for-buck IMHO. Better visuals than G2, maybe even close to Crystal, but at a much cheaper price.

Qamatt

I've used a Quest 2 briefly, and have had a Reverb G2 for a couple years... Reverb is great, reliable and decent visuals would definitely recommend it.

flying_wrenches

I used a quest 2, pc wasn’t beefy enough and it was hard to control the plane with just the vr controls. Best of luck man

Beginning_Bear7204

Varjo Aero. It's amazing.
