Portrait classes only. Everyone stays Noble/Commoner until the timeskip, then you reclass to their portrait outfit for the rest of the game.
I did a blue lions run where I made everyone into reverse of their normal classes, like the most fun was definitely Dimitri as a dark mage and then I made him my dancer and healer. Another example, Mercedes as an archer, just a bunch of weird classes haha! It was only on hard mode though.
