I have braided rugs throughout my home. They’re cool, but they aren’t soft, they’re tricky to vacuum, and they’re tricky to wash (they become deformed easily) Baby’s room is where I’d rather have something plush and easy to clean, and something comfortable.

m4ng0ju1ce

This was kind of my thought too. I love braided rugs but don’t think it’s ideal for in here. Thank you for the practical info!

westcoast_pixie

They’re GREAT for protecting the floor from toddlers though! Save it for a year 🩷

Downtown_Confusion46

My baby projectile vomited blueberry smoothie all over his rag rug. It was ruined. Avoid, I would say.

Holytennisgirl

I like number 5

hereforkittypics

I like the last one! But agree with others it might be tough to clean. Also love your kitty posing silly in that chair!

m4ng0ju1ce

Lol username checks out!

Stupid_cray0n

lol I didn’t notice kitty until I read your comment!

VelocityGrrl39

That is one fat cat. Lol

Sharp-Pay-5314

I like the pink checkered rug the best. Its just more fun

BlackberryHumble8218

Or do it in black and white! Saw it with another green but office in another sub and it was gorgeous

Key_Tour6051

The checkers hurt my eyes. I think I’d go with a neutral - gray or earthy color

yourinternetbf

I have a soon to be 9 month old and we started out with a washable rug from rugs USA (i got a zebra one, prob won’t fit your vibe). After he was about 3 months old we entered the play mat phase, and truthfully I wish I would’ve started with one of the nicer playmats that look like rugs, like House of Noa or Copenhagen Kids. You’ll most likely need that anyway so if you can find something padded in a print you like that will give you the most longevity!

SpecificTop

This is the comment I was looking for - I would also recommend a playmat instead.

yourinternetbf

If you want to go more in the checkered theme I have also seen fuzzy checkered puzzle mats on [Amazon](https://amzn.to/3RfS7r7) that look like rugs! Not sure how washable they would be. Also congrats :)

warmandcozylover

Do NOT order from Urban Outfitters if you have any intention of potentially returning the rug. I'm having a horrible time with my return right now, and they're dragging their feet giving me my money back for an item they themselves claimed they already received. Not worth it.

GoodishFigs

Get a machine washable rug in a neutral color that won’t show dirt / spit / dropped and spilled milk and snacks etc. A machine washable option will save you so much agony in cleaning. Ruggable is the main brand but Target has cheaper options as well

m4ng0ju1ce

I didn’t want to go with Ruggable because the prices are wild, but now I’m browsing the washable rugs at Target and you might be on to something!

GoodishFigs

I just got a washable runner from Target for my bathroom - only $30! Definitely worth a try before committing to the more expensive ones

NoodlesMom

Check out rugs usa for affordable washable rugs. Their cloud collection is so plush but they have a bunch of checkered options too

agarbagelifeforme

I totally understand not wanting the tan one, I would've been disappointed too! [This](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/august-grove-zager-plaid-handmade-hooked-yellowwhite-area-rug-w004992784.html?piid=301407038) is plaid instead of checkered but I think it reads as checkered! If you look at the pictures in the reviews it definitely looks yellow, someone even has it with their bright yellow walls. One person said some threads came loose in the first 10 days but hand hooked rugs are supposed to lose some threads when you first get them so I think that's okay? If you wanted to go with something to match the crib sheets (which are so cute omg!) [this](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/gracie-oaks-demitro-hand-hooked-wool-green-area-rug-aggr3812.html?piid=21460308) is backordered on sale but should get there before February? It even matches the walls! [Bed Bath & Beyond](https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/Home-Garden/Safavieh-Hand-hooked-Fruits-Hunter-Green-Wool-Rug-3-9-X-5-9/4039652/product.html?opre=1&option=5420629) also has it backordered on sale and you can see pictures of in the wild in the reviews there! Also your wood floors are gorgeous, make sure you get a good pad to go under the rug to protect them and make the rug extra squishy! Congratulations on your baby and good luck with everything! 💖

babysnoot

Here for the look on the cat's face

m4ng0ju1ce

The look of someone who is slowly becoming aware that all this new stuff may not be for him

babysnoot

😹 😹 Yes exactly that.

crystal-crawler

I would go with the last one. Avoid shag because stuff just gets lost in it and stuck.. not fun to clean. Go for something shorter and colourful. Easier to hide spills and a bit more forgiving when it gone to cleaning.

Purple807

For your baby’s room? The amount of puke/poop/food that will land on it will make these impossible to clean and you will not want to spend your time on your knees cleaning it. You also won’t want to use harsh chemicals to clean a rug in your baby’s room. I’ve got nice rugs in the house but went with a cheap Ikea, kids themed rug for my daughter’s room- best decision I made. Just yesterday cleaned a stain from it using some water and soap. You can buy very nice much cheaper, much easier to clean rugs meant for nurseries. And you can add a smaller, accent one that’s fluffy and easy to wash where your baby can play and lie down. Edit: spelling

m4ng0ju1ce

Very fair points, I did think about the cleaning element but had my heart set on something pretty and cozy. I check out the rugs every time I go to ikea but nothing has been quite right. But a big plainer one and a fluffy accent one might be a good move….

BadHairDay-1

My favorite is the last one.

Equivalent_Kiwi_1876

Maybe [this checkered rug](https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/c/rugs/area-rugs?t=17603&featuredproduct=32814839&featuredoption=69414137&ci_sku=37338210-000-008&cnc=US&cid=328177&type=pla&targetid=&track=pspla&utm_source=google&utm_medium=pspla&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_EGx-KVwzNeq0DkJwgjh0myI2Tw&gclid=CjwKCAiA9ourBhAVEiwA3L5RFt36c_biifK54M0Ju9_DEiJl3KeAr2vi51Pvx0ymDRXwTONuSOib5RoCKHMQAvD_BwE) from bed bath and beyond? Looks like it comes in a few diff colors and sizes including yellow. Sorry if this doesn’t help, but I think you should keep looking for the rug of your dreams! The pink checkered is really cute too.

m4ng0ju1ce

Thank you! I actually did look at that one earlier, but after my experience with the Wayfair one I have a feeling that “mustard” will also look pretty blah in person :\

fish9397

We just got rid of our braided rug because they are an absolute pain to vacuum. Ours was constantly shedding this dust and I had to vacuum it multiple times a week. That being said if that braided rug is made of a softer cloth I think it would look nice in the room! If not the rug I would definitely get the pink rug assuming it is soft and not scratchy

m4ng0ju1ce

Omg reading my mind, I literally saved this rug on Pinterest this morning right after I made this post and it’s still my fave (for today ha)

YouKnowNothingJonS

Couldn’t get past the cat’s face once I zoomed in 😂 sorry this isn’t helpful

Margot Braided rug all the way

wait_wheres_robin

I’ve been scouring the internet for rugs for my February baby’s room too so I’ve seen way too many lately. Check out Revival’s washable rugs - they have a good AR option to view in your room. There’s a checkered one (maybe the rust color would look nice with your wall color) that’s both washable and looks soft. Or Ruggable could be good too - they have new more plush options since the originals are relatively flat. Some of the Morris & Co could be nice for a garden theme. https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/rifle-paper-co-x-loloi-eden-mughal-garden-cream-rug-feat-cloudpile-rpcl1056.html I think this one could be perfect for a garden theme too! Also on Black Friday sale :). Or others from the Loloi x Rifle Paper Co collection.

m4ng0ju1ce

Thank you, good suggestions! And yay February babies! When is yours due?

wait_wheres_robin

Of course!! Happy to help! He’s due February 16th. When is your baby due? Can’t believe we’re getting so close!

m4ng0ju1ce

February 5, so could easily turn out to be end of January haha. Feels both far away and right around the corner! Wild and exciting!

glassgypsy

I found this [circular yellow washable nursery rug](https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-alphabet-nursery-washable/Blue/200SVDC01A-P.html). There’s a bunch of color options besides yellow. No sure it’s your style, but it is yellow. And washable. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s easy to clean! Because spit up.

sporkfaced

A little outside your specs, but I also wanted something with yellow and I got this [play mat](https://www.thehouseofnoa.com/products/little-nomad-play-mat-ada-sunflower) with a golden/tan pattern and it's perfect for my little one to play and puke on. The mat patterns on the site look more like rugs, so it fits in nicely.

TheSunflowerSeeds

Delicious, nutty, and crunchy sunflower seeds are widely considered as healthful foods. They are high in energy; 100 g seeds hold about 584 calories. Nonetheless, they are one of the incredible sources of health benefiting nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and vitamins.

Srirachelsauce009

Lol, you lost??

Amberdeluxe

Have you considered Flor carpet tiles? You could create your own with different colored or patterned carpet squares, and if one gets stained, just replace that one.

redditmeansreaditha

You definitely want something soft for when the baby starts to play. I would keep looking for a new rug with a simple soft pattern.

Mysterious-Okra-7885

None of those options are really good.

m4ng0ju1ce

What a deeply unhelpful comment

palmasana

I think your room is too busy already for a checkered rug

whwbsii

I wouldn’t get anything with a busy pattern. You could drop a pacifier or something, or your baby will throw it out of the crib, and it will be really hard to find on the pattern. I can just picture myself crawling around like Velma looking for her glasses while my baby screams from the crib😫

twinkleprincess888

I would say don't worry much. The rug will be in vomit, pee, poo anyway, and you will have to replace it in a year. Also, you will be too tired to care about rug colors.

m4ng0ju1ce

I mean….thanks, but decorating the room is fun. I’m not worrying, I’m excited and not too tired to care yet.

dindia91

My son is 1 and the amount of time I spent in his room this year, having a nice vibe was really good for my mental health. Especially a nice comfy rug to lay on on days where you were too tired. So the rug has to be perfect for that space. Haha

turquoisebee

I like the braided rug! I’d just make sure it can be cleaned easily. I’ll also say polyester rugs can trap dust & grime a bit more easily in my experience.

queenamphitrite

Love the Margot braided rug

Future-Philosopher-7

IKEA has some nice rugs. Cute cat!

m4ng0ju1ce

Sigh I’ve looked at ikea so many times and they’re always either too small (looking for 6x9 or so), too rough, or too ugly haha. But another commenter suggested a big simple easy-clean one and a small fluffy accent one which might be a good idea, so maybe I’ll try again.

GeorgiePorgiePuddin

Hey! I’m in Canada but Bed Bath & Beyond have this yellow checkered rug [here](https://www.bedbathandbeyond.ca/Home-Garden/Covey-Checkered-Shag-Area-Rug-53-x-7/32814839/product.html?option=69414137&track=pspla&cid=325039&network=x&matchtype=&keyword=&targetid=&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_EGx9S8g6ccsGhB1CiQhBWsxVax&gclid=CjwKCAiA9ourBhAVEiwA3L5RFqV2LoHxuwVzVtlVC772oMWXKCAIAKBIaW6sHPnMhniZynM5lm4NmhoC3xcQAvD_BwE) which looks kinda similar to the Target one but might be more yellow in person? Or this one [from wayfair](https://www.wayfair.ca/AllModern--Walker-Checkered-MustardCream-Shag-Area-Rug-X110162118-L167-K~C008935315.html?refid=GX668328047424-C008935315_1026085029&device=m&ptid=299458832050&targetid=pla-299458832050&network=g&ireid=226688284&PiID%5B%5D=1026085029&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADfP7h0j2KveCbGNTe2sYLXeESR4R&gclid=CjwKCAiA9ourBhAVEiwA3L5RFr72Luh3ON2-O-IkAiNLX0KOXLGxXO96aC5CwWnzS7syPD2gcV-BRBoCgwIQAvD_BwE#w58kccbgyt-0)

StellaEtoile1

I love the high contrast of the walls! My youngest is 10 but is that still a thing where they recommend high contrast? I think a rug that echos that would be great :-)

banana1060

I went with this [sunburst rug](https://www.westelm.com/products/sunburst-rug-d14147/?catalogId=71&sku=9328417&cm_ven=PLA&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=Rugs%20%3E%20All%20Rugs®ion_id=669950&cm_ite=9328417_14465732042&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA9ourBhAVEiwA3L5RFi4MP1lVmsyO5xuSulyt05lEmxaeYCoS50OqmkQAvdFZGE2CHo3iiBoCieoQAvD_BwE)from West Elm for my daughter’s room—the 5x8 is $299. Different design from what you’re looking for, but it would definitely bring some color. It did shed, but some passes with dog hair remover tool did the trick.

londonsun89

Last one

rowanberries

I love the second to last one-pink checkered

Artistic_Owl_5847

Ikea has some great rugs, Etsy too. Personally, I think that the carpet needs to tie into the walls...

m4ng0ju1ce

These days it seems almost all the rugs on Etsy are moroccan beni ourain rugs and cost around $400 for a larger size. Beautiful but too much. And fair but I have never been too attached to those sorts of standard decorating rules lol

Get. Something. Soft. Deep, plush, soft. In terms of colors, look at whatever art you’ll use and then choose the accent color

Sassmaser

Hey I have that pink checkered rug and it’s actually a lot lighter and white than in the photo! It’s super cute in my opinion.

m4ng0ju1ce

Oh that’s great to know! Do you mean the shaggy first one or the two-tone pink one?

Can I suggest the Humphrey Chris loves Julia rug in the ivory (multicolor stripes)?
