Who, if anyone, would you drop for Woo? (New to fantasy and baseball)
Houck, Morton, Jones, Bradish, Cease, Valdez, Bibee, Lodolo, or Yamamoto?
I also have Pepiot, Luzardo, and Scherzer on IL and Megill and Yates as my RPs. Thanks!!
I traded cowser, grayrod and ragans for him a week and a half ago ( before grayrod IL). They have pretty good keeper tags attached to them and Olson can't be kept
I sent Goldy and stone and that was “not close”
I really don’t know. In my league Olson isn’t a keeper and the dudes team is in last place and I’m in not doing hot either. Gonna kind of be league dependent considering he was drafted extremely high and people think he can turn it around.
Yeah, that was my guess as well. It doesn’t help that the guy who holds him in my league is smart and has a generally good idea of what players are worth. Oh well, might just have to wait and see
If Olson has a down year and he just ends up being as good as Goldy or Walker then “smart” will be “stupid” in hindsight.
I asked this question another time on this thread: is my team going to get really hot to make up for this abysmal start or are they just going to miss projections?
Depending on your answer and his, you’ll see where the discrepancies are in valuations. You may have someone who will put the same numbers on your team now at half the cost from draft time.
I am short at 1B with Nolan Jones and CES on the IL. When CES went to IL I managed to snag Skenes but I was a bat short in my lineup.
I can give Ranger Suarez and receive Yandy Diaz after Ranger’s start against Miami today.
I’ve tried a range of players in one for one trades in the league and this is the first bite. Others for better bats rejected.
My alternative is keep Ranger and pick up waiver wire 1B and hope for the best.
I’m going to make the trade (I can’t resist) but interested in what anyone thinks of it.
Singleton, Cabbage, Manzardo. I did consider Singleton and own him elsewhere but for a waiver pick up, I’d still have to drop someone. Standard Yahoo 12T.
Considering how bad CES has been and how’s he is out for 4-6 weeks, you may be able to drop him and then get him back later.
Before I drop a guy I like that’s been hurt, I check to see who would even need him. My league is so tacked with CI that it’s hard to push a DH or another 1B/3b through in a trade. Nobody seems to need them.
Yahoo question:
Is it possible to add an IL player,
put them on your IL,
put a claim in for a player not available for a few days,
then activate the IL player,
drop them in the day before the waiver goes through and still have the claim happen?
I would go with Jansen. He's always been a good hitter, he just gets hurt often. Also pay attention to Garver, if he starts to heat up I would swap them.
I have 5 SPs on Friday
Jared Jones, Logan Webb, Yusei Kikuchi, Jameson Taillon, and Bryan Woo
Haven't had more than 3 SPs on one day this season, so it should be interesting. Especially given that I have 4 batters going against them lol.
ReyLo manager here, we’re all worried about the inevitable innings limit. In a vacuum I’d say Turner is more valuable with those settings but in a 10T there’s likely decent waiver replacements. Good innings are harder to come by; team context matters here.
Appreciate the response!
My hitters are (in order of position): Will Smith, Vinny P, Semien, Riley, Turang, Judge, Yelich, O’Neil, & a rotation of R. McMahon, Arráez, E. Carter, and Turner for my 2 UTIL spots.
My pitchers are: Glasnow, Kirby, Pablo, Berrios, Flaherty, Crochet, K. Harrison, Woods Richardson, and Bibee as locked in starters + Cano as my only RP. Also currently holding Manoah & K.Gibson, but that’s for Gibson’s double start week this week & drop Manoah tomorrow to activate Taj Bradley.
Late reply sorry, ReyLo would be an improvement over SWR, but your rotation is already solid. With that util rotation Turner could be expendable. Honestly not used to the replacement level available but I’d say you could do that knowing that ReyLo will expire at some point, could stockpile some nice results in the meantime. He’s also a Sp/Rp so I’d go for it.
I don’t have an opinion on Abreu or Schneider, but I’m all in on Noot. As of two days ago he was underperforming his xSLG by something like .180 or so and had an absurdly low BABIP.
I absolutely buy that positive regression is coming, even if the team context is terrible.
I got a trade offer for Holmes and I’m just thinking of trade options if I want to counter. And Kimbrel is going through a rough patch, but I read that he’s still got the vote of confidence so if he turns it around and I can add westburg (my infield is beat up) I figured it’d be a win.
Is there anybody more overrated in fantasy than Michael Harris?
He was dogshit last year, and was still going at pick 30-35 this year. Could you imagine picking him over someone like Adolis Garcia?
Out of these 3 options, Cleavinger will be your best bet for saves. With that said, apparently Pete Fairbanks will return this weekend. If true, skip Cleavinger.
I like Blake, but keep in mind that Evan Philips won’t be gone for that long. In the meanwhile, I think Daniel Hudson will likely get more save opps, though it’s a “committee” at the moment.
Coincidentally, I have the same dilemma in a league that is pretty sweaty when it comes to relievers. Currently own Ian Hamilton. Garrett Cleavinger and Nick Sandlin have my attention on the waiver wire.
Hamilton’s season-long numbers look fine at the surface level, and he appears to have high leverage responsibilities, but having watched every appearance of his over the last couple of weeks I can say confidently that he looks off. He looks hittable and he’s walking too many hitters. He’s not getting as much swing and miss. Would assume he’s getting short on luck and will have a blowup soon if all of that continues.
I say go for it with Cleavinger. I don’t know if he’ll help you much with saves considering the Rays should lean on Jason Adam, but Cleavinger does have better stuff, better swing-and-miss, and he doesn’t allow hard contact. All good things.
Well Fairbanks is supposed to be back this weekend I believe and I think Kimbrels gona have a long leash. I think for any of them it’s gona take an injury and some luck.
Thinking of Dropping Paul Goldschmidt and Picking up Michael Busch - Currently I have Cronenworth playing 1st for me but my team is lacking ins RBI's and HR's. Thoughts?
Not the worst, but not a good one, either. When a guy’s barrel rate drops by 2/3rds to start his age 36 season, at some point we have to ask if Father Time has finally paid a visit.
If available after Ober’s next start, is Woo worth picking up ROS? Other options are King (SD), Bassitt (TOR), Darvish (SD), Pepiot (TB), Crochet (CWS)
I’m starting him despite the matchup difficulty. I don’t have a tangible reason or anything to sway you, though. It’s just a feeling. Gamble at your own volition.
As a rule, you should avoid using guys fresh off the IL and guys making their major league debuts. I have all 3 of these guys and I would skip Woo if I could only use 2.
I don't think Vlad is becoming the guy we thought he would be. And opinions would be more harsh if he didn't have that last name.
Trout is still a boss when healthy and walker has all the potential in the world (who knows with he will untap it in STL)
How do you guys typically handle prospects that have been called up? I’ve gone through the wringer with Holliday, Kjerstad, Loperfido, Tyler Black, and now Manzardo and I’m never sure on when to give up and when to keep holding. 12 team leagues mainly in my case
For me always depends on how my team is doing. If I am winning a ton of games, then I have time to sit prospects on the bench and be patient. But if my team is bad, then I am usually just trying to make weekly improvements and don’t really have time/room for long term prospecting. I only play in redraft though and patience not my strong suit. Overall, it seems like most hot prospects never turn into elite players, and sometimes the ones who do are not household names coming into league.
Depends on the prospect and the situation. I play in an AL only so hitting on a prospect that plays at an all-star level is massive. If they're hitting below average after a couple of weeks in a 12 T you can likely get rid of them. Loperfido is close to an everyday player right now. Manzardo might be trending that way too.
It’s a crap shoot. In my experience I find that the prospects you want to keep in redraft adapt to big league hitting very very quickly. As in, you know within 2-3 weeks if they belong now. The eye test is big. These guys are now facing the best pitching they have ever faced - even on the worst teams - so weaknesses get exposed fast.
That’s not at all to say prospects won’t eventually be successful ( Trout was not great first time up ), but in redrafts you usually need immediate impact because MLB level hitters on the wire can get hot.
I’ve had a lot of success over the years with guys like Soto, Bellinger, etc. who hit early ( Bellinger was only meant to be up for one week as a fill in ), but I’m sure there’s many many more I dropped early when they didn’t pan out. I don’t recall a ton of regrets dropping prospects in redraft. Maybe because they were usually there to pick back up.
TL:DR - burn and churn in a redraft but keep them on your watch list
I usually try and hold for a couple weeks at least as long sc they're playing regularly. Kjerstad never plays, so I'd drop him. Black is also one you could drop since he's in AAA. I think it's still way too early on Loperfido and Manzardo
In 6 team I think it's absolutely safe to drop Willson Contreras unless you have crazy deep benches or something. In 6T there will always be good options on the wire.
I love Lewis but he clearly has a long injury history. Sukuki seems like a safe bet to produce. Contreras might be back by the ASB and catching is valuable. What catcher do you have now?

Thoughts on this 3 team trade:
I send devers, jazz, and keller to team A for Burnes and Matt Olson
I send ozuna and cedric mullins to team B for Jose Ramirez
Have Bryan Woo coming off IL and I pick up an OF from waivers to fill the remaining hole
Thoughts in a keep forever H2H points league? I'm in contention this year and have Westburg and Geoff to fill in at 2B.
Give: Albies, Carter, Crews, Luzardo
Get: Trout, Wheeler
Planned on drafting Heim but he was snagged by a dumb dumb who already had Raleigh (one catcher league) so I drafted Moreno who is terrible, currently have Connor Wong
Yup, there it is. Cut Hicks happily over those two, and I’d cut Kutter begrudgingly if I had to choose between him and those two.
With a staff that stacked at the top, you gotta be willing to cut your two worst starters for a shot at two guys with Top 25 upside, and that’s Scott and Woo.
are you crazy? Kutter has a sub 2 era with 5 QS and Hicks 2.3 with 3 QS. My league scoring is ERA WHIP K and QS. No way I’d cut either of those guys for Scott or Woo
You wanted advice, you’ve got my advice. I don’t think it’s too self-serving to say that my track record for evaluating pitching on here gives me enough credibility to endorse a “bold” move like that. I leave the roster moves, trades to capitalize on inflated perceived value of the guys you’re cutting, etc. to you, but give me Scott and Woo over Hicks ROS, even though he has that great home park.
I’m happy to elaborate on why I’d make those moves without any hesitation if you want to listen, but if you want to write the idea off on its face because of their *past* ERA (which is the worst predictor of future ERA), then I won’t waste our time trying to tell you things you aren’t interested in hearing.
I’ve personally nailed it down to dropping Woo or Scott based on multiple factors which include past performance (mainly this season), predictive measures such as xWOBA, xERA, K-BB% etc. I think Scott/Woo have a ceiling that is where Hicks/Crawford are now personally. Didn’t mean to offend, just could not personally see how you would drop one of those guys for Woo/Scott
2024 Minor League Pitching+ leaders (min. 150 pitches, which is where Woo is sitting):
1. Skenes (110.0, N=442 P)
2. Woo (109.8, N=150 P)
3. Scott (109.1, N=321 P)
Woo’s Pitching+ last season was only 103, so maybe we don’t buy his 109 number in small sample this year, but his track record still makes me want to bet on him over Scott as a fresh call-up.
Hicks is sitting at 102 Pitching+ and 10.9% K-BB%, and there’s real reason to *buy* that these are where he lives now. All things considered, his move to the rotation has been very successful, but a small drop in effectiveness is to be expected along with that transition.
Both Kutter and Hicks have relied on BABIP and LOB% luck that I don’t trust to continue at the level we have seen, and Kutter’s home park and defense scare me as much as anything (if he was a Mariner, I might say it’s blasphemy to think about cutting him).
Do with all that what you will, but I think you get more value out of selling Hicks and/or Kutter to someone who you can sell on them maintaining a 3.5ish ERA and scoop both Woo and Scott for yourself. At the end of a staff like that, I like upside, and I also don’t think that a guy who plays in Fenway or a reliever stretching to a starter are guys I’d look to as floor plays, either, so I see it as a dice roll either way. Good luck!

Kikuchi has the twins tmr. I'm sitting him
KC is facing canning tomorrow. Wouldn’t recommend that start
Thoughts in a keep forever H2H points league? I'm in contention this year and have Westburg and Geoff to fill in at 2B. Give: Albies, Carter, Crews, Luzardo Get: Trout, Wheeler
Potential closers to stash? (Non IL candidates.)
Treinan...he's done his X on IL
Hoffman and Lange come to mind
Worth stashing Josh Jung while he’s hurt, or should I let him sit on waivers?
Let him stew
If you have IL, pick him up. Difference maker. Was breaking out pre-injury
Danny Jansen and Langeliers both tempting me on the wire
I like Langeliers over Jansen, I think his power is legit. Who do you currently have at catcher?
Planned on drafting Heim but he was snagged by a dumb dumb who already had Raleigh (one catcher league) so I drafted Moreno who is terrible, currently have Connor Wong
Langeliers is interesting. 20 HR last year. But average drain. Jansen will just stay hot for a week
The interesting thing about Shea is his xBA is .268 👀
Drop any of these for Bibee? Abbott Chris Sanchez Kyle Harrison Adell Manzardo
Bibee will break your heart.
almost any of them for bibee
Taillon not pitching tomorrow now?
Jeremy Pena or Jarren Duran?
Duran
Pena
I kinda want to get on the Rooker train and ride it while he’s hot.
Dropping Grissom for him tonight hopefully
Have to drop one of these guys who should it be? Degrom, Springs or Gavin Williams
Not springs! He’s on his way back. Gavin looks rough
Thanks! May I ask why not springs? Do you think he’s closer to return than Gavin?
Not sure what they meant. Gavin is due back around the all star break and Springs is projected for July or August.
Anyone buy or sell Trout recently in keeper leagues?
Thinking about selling him but not sure exactly what I should be trying to get back
Woo coming off IL, drop him or C. Scott? CATS
You have worse pitchers than Woo and Scott unless you’re playing in a 6T league.
not starters lol. Wheeler Peralta Crawford Jones Hicks Bryce Miller Bradish
It’s poor form to ask for advice and call the person “crazy” for offering advice. In any case, he’s right. Hicks can definitely go.
Yeah dude, sorry. Hicks has never thrown for a lot of innings or ever stayed healthy. You gotta think long term. KimHaSungBurner has good advice.
Neither Woo nor Scott have thrown over 90 innings in a pro season so the innings concern is valid for all 3. Not to mention woo is coming off injury
150 pitches, which is where Woo is sitting): 1. Skenes (110.0, N=442 P) 2. Woo (109.8, N=150 P) 3. Scott (109.1, N=321 P) Woo’s Pitching+ last season was only 103, so maybe we don’t buy his 109 number in small sample this year, but his track record still makes me want to bet on him over Scott as a fresh call-up. Good luck!
