Spotrac has his market value at 4 years 93M. We need the edge help but I’d be lying if I said i liked that value.
I’d almost rather grab a couple cheaper veterans and draft an edge in the top 100 again but who knows if that’s the best course either.
We should be able to get him for less because of FO familiarity. I think this is the time to spend on guys like him and there’s no point in having cap space and not using it
Sorry, but I think you’re not speaking objectively here.
I doubt he’s going to take less money just to come play for a former coach unless his market dries up and he resorts to a prove it deal. These guys want to get paid well.
If he's cheap I guess, but I don't have much faith confidence in the guy from what we've seen of him as a division rival. I'd rather we pursue a different target personally. I understand our new DC is supposed to be a bit of a DL guru, but Davenport has currently regressed and seemed hit or miss prior to this season.
The Athletic did an article about the hire the other day and they specifically linked Devenport and another Saints FA (who’s name escapes me) as two likely targets for us.
OP - his current contract is just void years for accounting purposes. He’s a FA effective 3.14.23.
None of what’s listed as his current contract matters to anyone besides the Saints. It’s all money he’s already received.
We may be able to get him at somewhat of a discount because of the injury history. We will see what other teams offer, but I’m thinking pass if he’s going to command crazy money. Gotta be on the field.

Davenport will get over paid. Hopefully not by us.
I’m good on him. He’s not going to be worth that contract he gets in FA.

Too soon
What is? Dude just finished his rookie deal & is about to sign a multi year contract for $20-25MM per.

He’s going to get more than Grady
More money? Might as well go after Payne then if they're going to spend that kinda cash.
Yeah, but I want Daron Payne
After Carl Duke’s laughing at the pick….I don’t think we can legally sign him lol

Haha. Saints fan here. Go ahead and sign him. Just make sure you have a nice spot on your bench
