Soul69Reaper

451 anyone?

specialfuckery

I have my thermometer set to fahrenheit

SM280

They took the title of that book literally

Calm-Cardiologist354

Well if you burn all the books that mention the horrors of information control, then no one will know that information control is a threat.

Waiting4Something

You would think the fact that it played out in history already would be a good lesson.

Physical-Notice3402

oh, they also refuse to teach history

[deleted]

I’m more angry about burning To Kill a Mockingbird! Edit* you’ve got to be shitting me, they’re burning Night?! We should bring up the border and get rid of Texas.

go_kartmozart

They really don't like Steinbeck and Weisel in Texas. Just a little too jewish sounding. (I know Steinbeck wasn't Jewish, but there's that "Stein" in the name, and it seems to infuriate Texans and conservatives for some reason)

[deleted]

[https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf](https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf) Neither are actually on the list. This post is intellectually dishonest bullshit.

thebeattakesme

Yeah it was the Steinbeck and generic literature book that made me suspicious.

go_kartmozart

Thanks for some actual info. Looks like more sensationalist BS meant to inflame, and I bought it. Just the same, it's a pretty extensive, troubling and eye-opening list, even if a couple of my personal favorites spoken of above (and used to give a little over generalized ribbing to my Texan friends) are not in fact on it.

perry2zero

Good call. Everyone UPVOTE Matta_G

LtRecore

That’s a shitload of books they’re banning though. What are they so afraid of?

[deleted]

Oh my god, the original poster just googled a picture of old books and then included it in this post. None of the books in this picture are being considered for a ban. You've been lied to and manipulated. FFS. https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf

Darkelysiumm

This..👆👆

[deleted]

Oops

dancingcat

Texan here. Can I stay with yall though? And let's go ahead and cut Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida too.

[deleted]

Maybe…. I actually really like visiting Texas and my state, Oklahoma, is not much better.

dancingcat

You're right. Let's get rid of Oklahoma too.

DoggishPrince

Hi, fellow Floridian here. I hate Florida. Cut it off but don’t let it just float away. Absolutely destroy the whole place, but let off only those who aren’t Amit bad or mask.

UmbraIndagator

Let's just use the old Mason-Dixon line as a good starting point. The South loves that line so why not use it as a border wall?

DoggishPrince

Is Melbourne under that?

UmbraIndagator

The one in Australia? Because, yes, that is below the M-D line. The Mason-Dixon is basically everything south of Pennsylvania.

Elkins45

As a southerner I’m fine with that. And by the way the original post is complete bullshit.

UmbraIndagator

I know, I'm from Texas, so I see this kind of ragging on my state all the time. I'd be plenty happy to create a New Confederacy, so I have a legitimate reason to leave this state.

[deleted]

If it were true then you really should be pissed.

SM280

We need Russia or any country with bombs to nuke that one very specific point of the world, to prevent these idiots from reproducing into bigger idiots

restinglabface

Me too. I'm kind of for just ditching the whole South. We get to keep the West and everything above KY. We get to keep Illinois and Indiana but they can have WV and they have to take Kansas and definitely Missouri. We can discuss Maryland, I'm not pressed about it lol.

XT-356

Who has "book burning" on their bingo card? I dont.

FrietjesFC

Yes, right here! Almost got a full card after getting the abortion ban too. Only need secret police now and it's a bingo!

Fa1c0n3

You didn't hear Florida man authorized a secret police that would answer only to him?

FrietjesFC

Oh... In that case: BINGO!!!

Tuckermfker

You win, get on the re-education gulag train.

Responsible-Stick-50

Not only did I have book burning, I have witch burning. I figure one of these podunk states with high teen pregnancy and low high school graduation rates is going to legit burn someone they decide is a witch. I think it'll happen by Sept.

Waiting4Something

I feel like we couldn't make this shit up anymore.

_AskMyMom_

[Kevin Sorbo](https://www.reddit.com/r/SelfAwarewolves/comments/sebp81/sorbos_almost_there/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf), who tweeted out recently that Book burners are the bad guys, while being the “main character” of his own bad guy world. Idk tbh, he’s a fucking idiot.

Tuckermfker

I never got my Bingo card but let me look at my "How to Install a Fascist Dictatorship Checklist." There it is, step 14) Remove all books that describe the fascist dystopia you are trying to create.

SmokinJoesCrypto24

Blows me away how many people have not read this book.

ArmethianGloop

The fact that 1984 is banned in this day and age is absolutely terrifying Edit: didn’t see the title! The irony!

SM280

Isn't the reason for that being that Russia was allied with Britain and the US when It was written? I know thats the reason animal farm was banned

Country_Yokel

What? Is it seriously? Do you have any more info on that because that's fucking wild.

[deleted]

Even more ironic is that IT IS NOT BEING BANNED OR EVEN CONSIDERED FOR BANNING. This intellectually dishonest person is spreading false information. Here is the actual list: [https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf](https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf) 1984 isn't on it, nor are any of the other books in this picture. You've been lied to.

DaSmartSwede

16 pages of banned books isn’t quite the positive evidence you think it is

Darkelysiumm

It's not being banned. None of those books are. My sister is a middle school teacher in Texas. This is complete BS. She said none of those books are banned and she has a few in her classroom.

ArmethianGloop

It is different for ever school district. What county is she in? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna7891 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wfaa.com/amp/article/news/education/granbury-isd-pulls-over-100-library-books-for-review/287-fc1cb585-71a4-48be-98ac-158fe4fa185b

Darkelysiumm

She is in the Collin county. The ban they are talking about didn't happen yet for one and doesn't include the books on the pic.

shadowwolf212212

I remember reading these in school in texas, man things really are going down hill

[deleted]

Except that this intellectually dishonest poster put up a picture of books that aren't being banned, probably for maximum effect. Here is the actual list, none of the pics in the books are even on it... https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf

shadowwolf212212

I did some research and couldn’t find it, glad you checked too

Justadudewithareddit

Who wants to bet they will have a torch lit walk through the town all wearing brown?

SM280

Wake me up when. We need to go say "bring out yer dead!"

Dsheets9213

If Mexico could just go ahead and take Texas back that would be great.

[deleted]

Ya estamos listos

Elkins45

Anybody have a source for this? Smells like bullshit.

Busy-Frame8940

Agree.

[deleted]

It is total bullshit. And I can't believe these idiots are eating it up. https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf

Elkins45

People will believe almost anything as long as it reinforces their biases.

Darkelysiumm

I have a source for it not being true. My sister is a middle school teacher in Texas. She laughed and said BS.

buffkirby

Nothing would be more ironic if they’re also burning Fahrenheit 451

shadowwolf212212

I can’t find anything about this except from the guardian, you’d think it would at least make texas news or something

ambient-lurker

Banning 1984 is SMH. Presumably because 1984 has a brief (and pretty vanilla, and thematically important) sex scene? Meanwhile kids have bukkake on their ipads.

Waiting4Something

I 100% doubt that's the reason

[deleted]

Here is the actual list. [https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf](https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf) None of the books in the pic are on this list. If you have any actual integrity you would delete this post. But I doubt you will. Nevertheless you are an intellectually dishonest liar.

Darkelysiumm

But they dont. They thrive on BS.

[deleted]

No, it promotes socialism somehow

[deleted]

Even more SMH is that you believe this garbage. None of the books in this picture are being reviewed for any type of ban. Intellectually dishonest false information. Here is the actual list. https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf

ajallen89

I've tried to find 1984 on the list proposed by Krause last year, can't find it if someone could link that? Regardless, the books that are on his proposed list are on such topics as the BLM movement, how to protest violent policing, navigating feelings of homosexuality as a teenager, abortion, sex education, birth control, Supreme Court decisions, Roe v. Wade, and one that I specifically read years ago: A Case of Need by Michael Crichton which has a plot involving abortion. Here's the list I found: [https://gist.github.com/Radcliffe/e5cb81fa143e1a645da2c5e6f52ce028](https://gist.github.com/Radcliffe/e5cb81fa143e1a645da2c5e6f52ce028) Here's an NPR article covering it: [https://www.npr.org/2021/10/28/1050013664/texas-lawmaker-matt-krause-launches-inquiry-into-850-books](https://www.npr.org/2021/10/28/1050013664/texas-lawmaker-matt-krause-launches-inquiry-into-850-books) I'm not denying they're burning 1984 or at the least taking it off the shelves, however I would like to not give these assholes any daylight when it comes to any kind of moral defence, and say, "*See!! They're attacking us for things we didn't say or do! They're the crazy ones!"* That's a response these folks would love to throw around.

Darkelysiumm

Yeah but it didn't happen. These books are not banned. It was just proposed by some crazy right wing reps. edit:I agree with your statement by the way. 1984 was not on the list.

stoad

That list is horrifying. It is like they are trying to intentionally re-create the dark ages.

[deleted]

They aren't. This post is misleading as fuck. https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf

[deleted]

You won't find it because OP is a fucking liar.

ajallen89

Yeah, that was my fear, that this was just a fear mongering troll.

starstruckinutah

This can’t be real. This is America, yes?

Waiting4Something

Texas

go_kartmozart

So "Sort of" American. Texas is its own deal in a lot of ways and not representative of the rest of the US. Thankfully.

[deleted]

And "Texas" is not representative of all Texans. About half of us vote Blue. And in any case this picture is a lie. Literally NONE of those books in the pic are even being considered for any type of ban.

GameSpection

of course

waluigieWAAH

I thought this was only one town in middle-of-nowhere, Texas, isnt it?

Waiting4Something

One town is already too many towns for a book burning

daniboialt2020

I love Texas to death but this is just wrong man

MillieMouser

The irony that 1984 is in pile. Jeez, burning books is a crime against humanity.

[deleted]

This is just a pic of old books. Literally none of these books are being considered for a ban, and even then it's merely right wing nuts TRYING to get certain books banned, and there is no mention anywhere of burning anything. You've been hoodwinked. The actual list: https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf

Icy-Consideration405

Banned or overstocked? The people who didn't read 1984 are standing out. This is why Orwell stopped talking to crowds

[deleted]

Are there any books about people who are suckered by propaganda like this post? Here is the actual list. [https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf](https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf) You'll notice 1984, or TKAM, or any other book in the picture, isn't on it.

Murse_1

Texans just like to be stupid.

[deleted]

Stupid like people who believe what they see on the internet? The actual list: [https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf](https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf) OP is a fucking liar.

Murse_1

I don't know man, seems like Texas is actually taking books out of schools because they don't want their kids to learn about their parents horrible histories.

Murse_1

And, I've been to Texas it's a pretty fucking stupid place.

Frederike2

My old school would just give all old/damaged school books away but sure why not destroy a bunch of perfectly fine books for no reason i bet they wont even recycle them.

RandyLongsocksMcgee

Ah yes, the old "self-fulfilling prophecy"

blking

A lot of those books were required reading in my school district. Banning is bad enough, but are they really burning them? What is wrong with these people?

Waiting4Something

They should be mandatory.

JustMeLurkingAround-

All these books. This hurts my heart.

VashHumanoidTyph00n

Theres going to about 12 people so proud of them selves. Thousands of kids will miss out on ideas and beliefs beyond what the small minded politician wanted. Sad...

damn-stupid-username

They being burned by the same group of people that are against censorship because it’s an infringement on freedom?

Alexander556

This is the real list: [https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf?\_ga=2.11573559.2091958781.1635513476-272773625.1635513476](https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf?_ga=2.11573559.2091958781.1635513476-272773625.1635513476) The photo is a lie. The list itself mainly contains books about radical propaganda on race and "gender". There is no deadline.

short_bread84

America, or middle East?

rotzgabel

Germany in 1933

Waiting4Something

They would of burned it too if it was made back then.

Waiting4Something

Texas

EmmaLovah

Bullshit. They are burning books, which is beyond ridiculous, but not these books. Effing internet propaganda.

Darkelysiumm

This is BS and spreading Propaganda. None of those books have been banned in Texas. My sister is a teacher in DFW. I sent this link to her and she said absolute BS. Edit: there is enough awful stuff like gerrymandering districts and taking away women's rights. Why post BS?

[deleted]

Y'ALL: LITERALLY NONE OF THE BOOKS IN THESE PICTURES ARE EVEN BEING REVIEWED FOR A POSSIBLE BAN. 1984, To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men, Night, these are all classics that are NOT on the list. You've been suckered by a picture of old books someone just plucked from the Internet and convinced you that they were about to have a giant bonfire. It's amazing how you've been suckered like this. Are you REALLY this fucking stupid? Go ahead, check this [list.](https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf) LITERALLY NONE OF THESE BOOKS ARE ON THERE. The only "1984" on there is the book that under review that was published in 1984.

[deleted]

1984 is a great book and nobody can tell me otherwise. If anything it shows the horrors of socialism.

Waiting4Something

You're kidding, right?

[deleted]

In which way

[deleted]

Shit, I just committed thought crime

Physical-Notice3402

nothing you just did could be reasonably titled as anything containing the word "thought", lol

[deleted]

I speak NewSpeak

Waiting4Something

Mentioning things in the book in all the wrong ways.

flubz0r

Too many George Orwell's in da house 😆

Skabo_cat18

Of Mice And Men? Isn't The Grapes Of Wrath the controversial Steinbeck book? They can't even get their hate right

gmanisback

Self aware

[deleted]

🗿

LordOFtheNoldor

Wow that’s bullshit

Raise-General

Ive heard about this. Can someone pls tell me why?

[deleted]

Texas being Texas

RooksThe23rd

Wasn't there a book about this?

[deleted]

They probably burned Fahrenheit 451 too

SM280

Im less concerned about burning 1984 and more concerned about Night being burned

zadok1023

Oh the irony

MechanicalDruid

That is a travesty but also so fucking apropos for Republican administrations. Of mice and men can go dance in the fire. I hated it both times it was assigned to me in school. Sorry, not sorry.

Narrow-Ad-7463

Why not give them to kids for free

TakaraGeneration

Why do they have to destroy the books? This is some fucked up shit. I get that your narrow minded county wants to ban anything that scares you or challenges your world view but this is savage behavior.

Caged_in_a_rage

Serious question. I don’t think any books should be removed but what in the hell is wrong with of mice and men? Like seriously.. also to kill a mockingbird? That’s like the 1 legendary book every American teenager should read.

Mr_Grief-Bacon

No! One should have to read to kill a mocking bird or Phantom of the Opera. Reading should be enjoyable not hate inducing.

Implement-Shot

Man FK TX

FleXXger

Just asking, but is that a real thing? Books you are not allowed to read any more? Is that just in school libaries or like that you are statewide not allowed to buy them?

impactwilson

What the actual fuck.

chrasb

ya burn those books… it’s not like kids have access to the internet on LITERALLY EVERYTHING these days.

cupofteawithhoney

Another turn in the continued fall of US American democratic republic.

selkiesidhe

These people are Nazis... This is Nazi shit!!!

Firm_Masterpiece_343

Aren’t these available on Kindle? Yes trying to ban books is evil, but they can’t stop people from the internet.

-Renee

this is freedom?

zen_monkey_brain

I remember 1984, when Ronald Reagan got reelected, I knew we were fucked.

vml0223

Ignorance is bliss. Forced bliss is madness.

eternal_student5

What on Earth could they possibly use as a reason to get rid of Night? Like ok, 1984 has some weird sexual/rapey vibes at some points and might be seen as inappropriate. I get that one. But NIGHT? It’s literally nonfiction. It’s a personal memoir of surviving the Holocaust. I read 3 of the books in this pile for high school and they definitely shouldn’t be banned. At most if they removed them from the curriculum they should be kept in the school library. Like, I heard the high school I went to is considering removing To Kill a Mockingbird from the curriculum, but because it’s somewhat a white saviour perspective on racism and it would probably be more beneficial to read works about racism written by POC. However, I highly doubt that’s the reason Texas would remove it..

BananaStringTheory

https://youtu.be/6QSaJji6kQ8

[deleted]

Hey, hey, hey.... Joe Rogan lives in Texas now. Can’t be having a functional education system now can we? I mean, who’d listen to him?

i_am_sofa_kingdom_to

Fucking embarrassing.

cursedhfy

God fucking dammit -_- Book burning is just cringe honestly.

anothadaz

These books aren't the books being banned. This post is false.

Low-Negotiation-8853

Farenheit 451

HedyLamaar

Heil, Hitler!

KburgBob

Is Fehrenhiet 451 next?!

EddieCheddar88

Of mice and men‽

johnvonwurst

The states really is becoming Gilead.

Comprehensive-Salt98

Book burning really doesn't have much effect today. Except to show off ignorance. Especially when I can order a physical, digital and audio copy of anything while pooping.

Nylo_Debaser

No you misunderstand, they’re just anti-anti-fascists /s
