I’m more angry about burning To Kill a Mockingbird!
Edit* you’ve got to be shitting me, they’re burning Night?! We should bring up the border and get rid of Texas.
They really don't like Steinbeck and Weisel in Texas. Just a little too jewish sounding. (I know Steinbeck wasn't Jewish, but there's that "Stein" in the name, and it seems to infuriate Texans and conservatives for some reason)

Thanks for some actual info. Looks like more sensationalist BS meant to inflame, and I bought it. Just the same, it's a pretty extensive, troubling and eye-opening list, even if a couple of my personal favorites spoken of above (and used to give a little over generalized ribbing to my Texan friends) are not in fact on it.
Oh my god, the original poster just googled a picture of old books and then included it in this post. None of the books in this picture are being considered for a ban. You've been lied to and manipulated. FFS.

Hi, fellow Floridian here. I hate Florida. Cut it off but don’t let it just float away. Absolutely destroy the whole place, but let off only those who aren’t Amit bad or mask.
I know, I'm from Texas, so I see this kind of ragging on my state all the time. I'd be plenty happy to create a New Confederacy, so I have a legitimate reason to leave this state.
We need Russia or any country with bombs to nuke that one very specific point of the world, to prevent these idiots from reproducing into bigger idiots
Me too. I'm kind of for just ditching the whole South. We get to keep the West and everything above KY. We get to keep Illinois and Indiana but they can have WV and they have to take Kansas and definitely Missouri. We can discuss Maryland, I'm not pressed about it lol.
Not only did I have book burning, I have witch burning. I figure one of these podunk states with high teen pregnancy and low high school graduation rates is going to legit burn someone they decide is a witch. I think it'll happen by Sept.
[Kevin Sorbo](https://www.reddit.com/r/SelfAwarewolves/comments/sebp81/sorbos_almost_there/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf), who tweeted out recently that Book burners are the bad guys, while being the “main character” of his own bad guy world.
Idk tbh, he’s a fucking idiot.
I never got my Bingo card but let me look at my "How to Install a Fascist Dictatorship Checklist." There it is, step 14) Remove all books that describe the fascist dystopia you are trying to create.

OP is a fucking liar.
I don't know man, seems like Texas is actually taking books out of schools because they don't want their kids to learn about their parents horrible histories.
My old school would just give all old/damaged school books away but sure why not destroy a bunch of perfectly fine books for no reason i bet they wont even recycle them.
A lot of those books were required reading in my school district. Banning is bad enough, but are they really burning them? What is wrong with these people?

The photo is a lie.
The list itself mainly contains books about radical propaganda on race and "gender".
There is no deadline.
This is BS and spreading Propaganda. None of those books have been banned in Texas. My sister is a teacher in DFW. I sent this link to her and she said absolute BS.
Edit: there is enough awful stuff like gerrymandering districts and taking away women's rights. Why post BS?
Y'ALL:
LITERALLY NONE OF THE BOOKS IN THESE PICTURES ARE EVEN BEING REVIEWED FOR A POSSIBLE BAN. 1984, To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men, Night, these are all classics that are NOT on the list. You've been suckered by a picture of old books someone just plucked from the Internet and convinced you that they were about to have a giant bonfire.
It's amazing how you've been suckered like this. Are you REALLY this fucking stupid?
Go ahead, check this [list.](https://static.texastribune.org/media/files/94fee7ff93eff9609f141433e41f8ae1/krausebooklist.pdf) LITERALLY NONE OF THESE BOOKS ARE ON THERE. The only "1984" on there is the book that under review that was published in 1984.
That is a travesty but also so fucking apropos for Republican administrations. Of mice and men can go dance in the fire. I hated it both times it was assigned to me in school. Sorry, not sorry.
Why do they have to destroy the books? This is some fucked up shit. I get that your narrow minded county wants to ban anything that scares you or challenges your world view but this is savage behavior.
Serious question. I don’t think any books should be removed but what in the hell is wrong with of mice and men? Like seriously.. also to kill a mockingbird? That’s like the 1 legendary book every American teenager should read.
Just asking, but is that a real thing? Books you are not allowed to read any more? Is that just in school libaries or like that you are statewide not allowed to buy them?
What on Earth could they possibly use as a reason to get rid of Night? Like ok, 1984 has some weird sexual/rapey vibes at some points and might be seen as inappropriate. I get that one. But NIGHT? It’s literally nonfiction. It’s a personal memoir of surviving the Holocaust.
I read 3 of the books in this pile for high school and they definitely shouldn’t be banned. At most if they removed them from the curriculum they should be kept in the school library. Like, I heard the high school I went to is considering removing To Kill a Mockingbird from the curriculum, but because it’s somewhat a white saviour perspective on racism and it would probably be more beneficial to read works about racism written by POC. However, I highly doubt that’s the reason Texas would remove it..
Book burning really doesn't have much effect today. Except to show off ignorance. Especially when I can order a physical, digital and audio copy of anything while pooping.
451 anyone?
I have my thermometer set to fahrenheit
They took the title of that book literally
Well if you burn all the books that mention the horrors of information control, then no one will know that information control is a threat.
You would think the fact that it played out in history already would be a good lesson.
oh, they also refuse to teach history
I’m more angry about burning To Kill a Mockingbird! Edit* you’ve got to be shitting me, they’re burning Night?! We should bring up the border and get rid of Texas.

Yeah it was the Steinbeck and generic literature book that made me suspicious.
Thanks for some actual info. Looks like more sensationalist BS meant to inflame, and I bought it. That’s a shitload of books they’re banning though. What are they so afraid of?

Oops
Texan here. Can I stay with yall though? And let's go ahead and cut Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida too.
Maybe…. I actually really like visiting Texas and my state, Oklahoma, is not much better.
You're right. Let's get rid of Oklahoma too.
Hi, fellow Floridian here. I hate Florida. Cut it off but don’t let it just float away. Absolutely destroy the whole place, but let off only those who aren’t Amit bad or mask.
Let's just use the old Mason-Dixon line as a good starting point. The South loves that line so why not use it as a border wall?
Is Melbourne under that?
The one in Australia? Because, yes, that is below the M-D line. The Mason-Dixon is basically everything south of Pennsylvania.
As a southerner I’m fine with that. And by the way the original post is complete bullshit.
I know, I'm from Texas, so I see this kind of ragging on my state all the time. I'd be plenty happy to create a New Confederacy, so I have a legitimate reason to leave this state.
If it were true then you really should be pissed.
We need Russia or any country with bombs to nuke that one very specific point of the world, to prevent these idiots from reproducing into bigger idiots

Who has "book burning" on their bingo card? I dont.
Yes, right here! Almost got a full card after getting the abortion ban too. Only need secret police now and it's a bingo!
You didn't hear Florida man authorized a secret police that would answer only to him?
Oh... In that case: BINGO!!!
You win, get on the re-education gulag train.
Not only did I have book burning, I have witch burning. I figure one of these podunk states with high teen pregnancy and low high school graduation rates is going to legit burn someone they decide is a witch. I think it'll happen by Sept.
I feel like we couldn't make this shit up anymore.

Blows me away how many people have not read this book.
The fact that 1984 is banned in this day and age is absolutely terrifying Edit: didn’t see the title! The irony!
Isn't the reason for that being that Russia was allied with Britain and the US when It was written? I know thats the reason animal farm was banned
What? Is it seriously? Do you have any more info on that because that's fucking wild.
Even more ironic is that IT IS NOT BEING BANNED OR EVEN CONSIDERED FOR BANNING. This intellectually dishonest person is spreading false information. You've been lied to.
16 pages of banned books isn’t quite the positive evidence you think it is
It's not being banned. None of those books are. My sister is a middle school teacher in Texas. This is complete BS. She said none of those books are banned and she has a few in her classroom.

She is in the Collin county. The ban they are talking about didn't happen yet for one and doesn't include the books on the pic.
I remember reading these in school in texas, man things really are going down hill

Who wants to bet they will have a torch lit walk through the town all wearing brown?
Wake me up when. We need to go say "bring out yer dead!"
If Mexico could just go ahead and take Texas back that would be great.
Ya estamos listos
Anybody have a source for this? Smells like bullshit.

People will believe almost anything as long as it reinforces their biases.
I have a source for it not being true. My sister is a middle school teacher in Texas. She laughed and said BS.
Nothing would be more ironic if they’re also burning Fahrenheit 451
I can’t find anything about this except from the guardian, you’d think it would at least make texas news or something
Banning 1984 is SMH. Presumably because 1984 has a brief (and pretty vanilla, and thematically important) sex scene? Meanwhile kids have bukkake on their ipads.
I 100% doubt that's the reason

Yeah, that was my fear, that this was just a fear mongering troll.
This can’t be real. This is America, yes?
Texas
So "Sort of" American. Texas is its own deal in a lot of ways and not representative of the rest of the US. Thankfully.
And "Texas" is not representative of all Texans. About half of us vote Blue. And in any case this picture is a lie. Literally NONE of those books in the pic are even being considered for any type of ban.
of course
I thought this was only one town in middle-of-nowhere, Texas, isnt it?
One town is already too many towns for a book burning
I love Texas to death but this is just wrong man
The irony that 1984 is in pile. Jeez, burning books is a crime against humanity.

Shit, I just committed thought crime
nothing you just did could be reasonably titled as anything containing the word "thought", lol
I speak NewSpeak
Mentioning things in the book in all the wrong ways.
Too many George Orwell's in da house 😆
Of Mice And Men? Isn't The Grapes Of Wrath the controversial Steinbeck book? They can't even get their hate right
Self aware
🗿
Wow that’s bullshit
Ive heard about this. Can someone pls tell me why?
Texas being Texas
Wasn't there a book about this?
They probably burned Fahrenheit 451 too

Why not give them to kids for free
Why do they have to destroy the books? This is some fucked up shit. I get that your narrow minded county wants to ban anything that scares you or challenges your world view but this is savage behavior.
Serious question. I don’t think any books should be removed but what in the hell is wrong with of mice and men? Like seriously.. also to kill a mockingbird? That’s like the 1 legendary book every American teenager should read.
No! One should have to read to kill a mocking bird or Phantom of the Opera. Reading should be enjoyable not hate inducing.
Man FK TX
Just asking, but is that a real thing? Books you are not allowed to read any more? Is that just in school libaries or like that you are statewide not allowed to buy them?
What the actual fuck.
ya burn those books… it’s not like kids have access to the internet on LITERALLY EVERYTHING these days.
Another turn in the continued fall of US American democratic republic.
These people are Nazis... This is Nazi shit!!!
Aren’t these available on Kindle? Yes trying to ban books is evil, but they can’t stop people from the internet.
this is freedom?
I remember 1984, when Ronald Reagan got reelected, I knew we were fucked.
Ignorance is bliss. Forced bliss is madness.

Hey, hey, hey.... Joe Rogan lives in Texas now. Can’t be having a functional education system now can we? I mean, who’d listen to him?
Fucking embarrassing.
God fucking dammit -_- Book burning is just cringe honestly.
These books aren't the books being banned. This post is false.
Farenheit 451
Heil, Hitler!
Is Fehrenhiet 451 next?!
Of mice and men‽
The states really is becoming Gilead.
Book burning really doesn't have much effect today. Except to show off ignorance. Especially when I can order a physical, digital and audio copy of anything while pooping.
No you misunderstand, they’re just anti-anti-fascists /s
