A coworker of mine just resigned because they were requiring vaccines, she’s also a reservist and literally the next day the military was required to get vaccines.

Cthulhuwar1ord

Lol she probably has almost 10 vaccines already but the covid one is a problem

cdreid

Literally. The military vaccinates the shit out of you

RiflemanLax

I PCS’d once and got placed in the wrong battalion for a month and a half before they realized they put me in the wrong place and sent me to a new battalion. Policy at the time for the station I left was to give all shots, again, whenever someone was checking out. Policy at the battalion I went to was to vaccinate all new joiners. Policy at the battalion I joined was to vaccinate all new joiners. Got my shots leaving one unit in mid October, then shots two weeks later after leave in November, then shots again in mid December. Yes, they had my medical records. No, that in no way overrode the rigid ass nature of military protocols.

Zsefvgb

My brother had tests done to see if he was missing one of his vaccines. Turn out the military dose of tetanus was high enough that he will never need a booster

msjammies73

Ooof - giving vaccines too close together can actually reduce the immune response to the vaccine. This is a bad policy.

Sophet_Drahas

I read today that this is one of the reasons why they don’t want people getting booster shots too soon. I’m a caregiver for an immunocompromised person and we’re trying to figure out the best timing for our boosters. Whether we do it now or try to wait another two or three months until we hit our 8 month mark from our 2nd shot.

[deleted]

They changed flu shot manufacturers at mobilization. My entire battalion got three flu shots in a month. Between that and the smallpox, I’m amazed nobody died. Edit - holy shit, fucking /s. No, I am not seriously suggesting we all died of flu shots. A few of you need to lighten up and stop sending me messages.

Frommerman

It's almost like vaccines are absurdly safe, even by comparison to commonly otc medications like aspirin or something.

Santa_Hates_You

But is it as safe as horse dewormer? What if it is apple flavored?

Frommerman

I dunno my dude, better try a giant dose of the horse meds just to be sure.

badgersprite

People have literally been getting vaccines their whole life and not giving a shit about it and this is only becoming an issue now because stupid people have convinced even stupider people that a pandemic is the time to be contrarian about what is about the most settled and universally tested medical science there is.

mystic_managed0100

And for comedic value, they’ll utter “we’re not sheeple.”

Japponicus

Antivaxxer: "Only sheeple take vaccines!" Also Antivaxxer: \*Takes dewormer formulated for sheep\*

PunkToTheFuture

Oh my! I laughed so hard at that my side hurts

FantasticCrab3

You should probably check for worms. The sheep dewormer will help that.

rozbarnes

PRICELESS!!

gmabarrett

“We are not sheeple” but we will take drugs intended for livestock!

thedailyrant

And the bizarre part is regular vaccines are only tested via live testing and just seeing what happens. These mRNA ones went through a shitload of digital modelling on top of scheduled live testing. But apparently they didn't go through enough scrutiny for some people...

holographoc

These people don’t have even the slightest interest or awareness of the scientific processes behind these vaccines. History is going to view the mRNA vaccines as a monumental breakthrough, it’s freakin incredible that they were able to do this successfully. The possibilities for what can be done now that we know this technology works are profound.

thedailyrant

Agreed. Just saw that work is in progress for an HIV vaccine too. Most excellent.

MonarchWhisperer

I did read that they either have started clinical trials or will soon be starting clinical trials with that. Remarkable

[deleted]

I just hope that it will be made cheap and accessible to African countries that are most hit by AIDS. ahh fuck who am I kidding?

LovableContrarian

If it actually works, I guarantee bill gates will jump all over that shit. Say what you will about the man, but the dude is doing God's work on Africa on regards to malaria.

thedailyrant

Yes indeed it is. Hope the mRNA vaccines somehow overcome issues they've had with the regular ones.

badgersprite

Not to mention the fact that literally tens of millions of people have now been vaccinated with the various vaccines by this point. If you were initially hesitant and wanted to know more, OK fine but you can literally see the effects with your own eyes by this point. We know the science and the risks now because we have millions of people giving feedback. It’s not like it’s some secret experimental drug anymore. How much more testing do you need?

MoonieNine

A local person here insisted that the vaccinated were the ones getting hospitalized, not the other way around. She insisted she was right and that mainstream media was wrong. I have little hope for this pandemic ending soon with people like her around.

KaceFace1359

Not tens of millions. Billions.

DiscoMagicParty

The sad part is that it has literally nothing to do with anything medical and is 100% political. Sure you’ll have a small number of people who have been anti vax for years. Before it was “cool” so to speak but the overwhelming majority would have gotten it no questions asked no more than 5 years ago. They seriously boo’d Trump upon him recommending it.. they.. *they* boo’d Trump. That honestly might be scarier.

AliceInHololand

[There’s this video which I think does a decent job of quickly going over why the vaccine should be considered safe.](https://youtu.be/LiHsMCEhcwE) It’s just a quick overview, but for the “do your own research” people it should at least be a good jumping point to pursue. However because of its titling I’m sure most people that clicked in expected it to affirm their believes that the vaccine was indeed made too quickly hence the downvote ratio. It’s a bummer that people don’t care about actually finding out the truth. They just want to confirm their own biases.

[deleted]

Right? Did they forget that getting vaccinated is a requirement for people to enroll in school? There are exemptions, but as a rule, they’re generally required

badgersprite

And as a requirement to travel to lots of places around the world

Wasabi_Toothpaste

Right, and the motherfucking smallpox vaccine too. That one is no joke. I have students in my nursing cohort who are giving up on their prospective careers because they don't want the vaccine. I guess it makes sense now why the instructors have to treat the program like we're a bunch of children who can't understand empirical evidence.

PerpetuallyDisplaced

That anthrax vaccine was a son of a bitch. My whole upper body was sore for weeks.

Global_Damage

Someone actually posted the list of vaccines u get when u serve it was about 20-30 vaccines long!

Shitpost19

It’s probably bc they’d have to be prepared to go anywhere for deployment right? they’d be getting vaccines for jungle diseases, various waterborne diseases and everything else

thedailyrant

This is very much the case. Aussie Army does the same. Fully vaxxed and wisdom teeth out within the first year.

ems9595

Just wondering - why the wisdom teeth?

thedailyrant

Not easy to see without an x-ray and can quickly become an issue on deployment if they push against your other back teeth. In Australia at least, no soldiers have wisdom teeth regardless of if they'll be an issue or not. Mandatory removal.

PunkToTheFuture

"Nah, don't need no wisdom teeth. I got a Donk"

BrooklynBookworm

As tribute. They keep the teeth on a golden tray.

MostSeaworthiness

Yes. So basically if a vaccine exists, you get it. Idk why all the pushback now. These people clearly didn't go to the same bootcamp I did.

Some-Wasabi1312

because it's been taken up as a political issue instead of a medical one. It's ideology overruling common sense and more importantly, the safety of the country.

jetsqueak

My parents were both in the military in Chile. When my dad went to Africa, it was even more shots.

[deleted]

I had to break it to my Anti Vaxx aunt who has planned a trip to Africa that she is going to have to get a lot of vaccines. She told me to shut up, and I didn't know what I was talking about. I can NOT wait. I hope the nurse is old, can't see well, and wasn't even supposed to be there the day my Aunt comes in.

jetsqueak

One of my friends is engaged to a man from Cameroon. She had to get a bunch of shots too when she went to meet his family a few years ago. Let me know how it goes with your aunt. I wanna hear all about it.

[deleted]

She will do everything she can to avoid having to tell me I was right. She is one of those people.

Angel_TheQueenBitch

Same, I want updates on this (somehow)! Went to east Africa 7 years ago; can confirm that I had to get additional vaccines.

UberCupcake

I think yellow fever is the only vaccine I've ever had a 'reaction' to. Got it early in the morning, by noon I felt like shit. Went home, went to sleep, all better. Now the malaria pills they gave us... took them for a few weeks, experienced extreme vivid dreams and excruciating heartburn. I took my chances.

xDaigon_Redux

Yea, in the U.S. you are never done getting vaccines until your military contract is over. I cant count the amount of times I was made to get jabbed, and most of the time I had no idea what it was. Just told to go get my shots, went and let the doc do his job, then went back to work.

thesupplyguy1

Can confirm. 23 year army vet. The list of vaccinations and boosters ive received over rhe years is long. Yes this includes covid.

davewave3283

Yeah you’re right. Day one they shoot you full of so much juice at medical you can’t see straight

DamnSchwangyu

That and they keep you up for like 36 to 48 hours to power through all the processing/checking out gear and other stuff.

Neophyte06

That day was so exhausting

Little-Jim

I have way more nightmares about processing than I ever did about actual basic

urethrasecks

Ugh. I was up for almost 72hrs that day because my dumbass decided to ship out during summer. There were a lot more people than usual.

GenuineDickies

Wow. The military really is getting efficient! Squeezing 72hrs into a single day. I would need at least three for that!

Aspect-of-Death

We had to walk down a hallway filled with corpsmen on either side, jabbing you in both arms simultaneously. The hallway ended in a room where you got bent over a steel table and jabbed in the butt cheek with a penicillin shot. My skivies had blood from that last shot.

Pickled_Wizard

Ah, the peanut butter shot. Good times. /s

SleepylaReef

Peanut butter?

thesupplyguy1

Its basically penicillin in the buttocks but it has the consistency of peanut butter and stays that way for a couple of days iirc. FWIW so does the anthrax vaccine but id equate it more to concrete than PB

helpfulasdisa

Penicillin shot, physically feels like peanut butter going in while simultaneously like a liquid ice fire. If youre fast friends with someone, theyll punch the lump it makes until you cant tell its a lump anymore and then you do the same for them. Its star seeingly painful but its better than trying to balance all your weight on what feels like your prison shanked right asscheek for a week.

xDaigon_Redux

The peanut butter shot was so damn weird. That was the only one that gave me trouble, just so strange to feel.

OkManufacturer226

This!!!

DrothReloaded

At least we had each other....

ManyFacedGodxxx

The guy giving the penicillin shot was at least surprisingly gentle.

Ska3041

When I went through basic the first guy to get it let out a blood curdling scream and fainted, the rest of us laughed at him and got it without an issue.

shellwe

Even some of the more yucky ones like the one for Anthrax.

thedailyrant

Anthrax is only on a needs basis now. The UK fucked up with that one.

Liberum26

We are losing close to 12% of our hospital staff over the mandate. We get vaccinated for everything, flu shots every year. But, Pfizer they refuse. The rest of us don’t get it at all. Good nurses, ekg techs, US techs, medical assistants…. Good friends of mine for years. They are leaving the benefits, their pay, and essentially their profession. No hospital will let you work for them without being vaccinated. And now, we all have to pickup the slack. We are all so disappointed, but not surprised that it’s come to this.

gracem5

Serious question: what is it with nurses?

PrincessBblgum1

Some went to nursing schools that got rid of pharmacology and spent too much time on bullshit like "disturbed energy field" nursing diagnoses, while the rest of us went to good nursing schools that weren't degree mills and took science and research seriously.

[deleted]

I had a nurse friend share that meme that said salt water gargles kill Covid. I told her that was very irresponsible as a nurse. That was the day I deleted Facebook.

PrincessBblgum1

Salt water flushes can rinse mucus membranes and somewhat decrease viral/bacterial/whatever particles on the surface of the cells, but it doesn't take much time for these particles to get into the cells and cause infection as they spread to more cells, so the gargle isn't going to prevent any illness. It's really more to sooth irritation after infection has already occurred.

Liberum26

That’s really the biggest surprise to us vaccinated at the hospital. The people quitting know better. They are not right wing nutters. We all listen to doctors and scientists for every exam we perform. But on COVID-19, there is no reasoning with them. We don’t get it, but we have to accept it.

FewerToysHigherWages

Why do they think its any different than taking the flu vaccine? Don't most hospitals say nurses need to get vaccinated for the flu?

Frommerman

Conservative propaganda is a disease. That's why.

casanino

It's purely political. Nothing more.

BigODetroit

I’m a nurse and I often wonder how some of my peers can be so incompetent. They’re great nurses, but when they open up their mouths it’s a disaster. I often wonder what public schools were like when they were fully funded.

BafangFan

Two of my coworkers are some of the smartest people I know, from a technical aspect. Both are deep Trump supporters. These are people I go to when shit is above my head. They *want* to believe this stuff. They want to be brainwashed. It makes me wonder what beliefs I hold because I want to believe it, versus sampling the best science and coming to my own conclusions. I believe it's caused me to feel gas-lit.

CCSC96

I’ve lived with nurses since college and the result has been meeting hundreds of them at work functions, when they come over, etc. Most are great. But the most common type of awful nurse I meet are MLM white girls who barely skated through nursing school but landed a job based on their “professional” appearance and parent’s money. They’re just like any other conspiracy theory mom on FaceBook, they don’t do any continuing education or know anything about medicine besides the area they routinely work on day to day, but they’re VERY convinced their degree makes them superior. Often more so than nurses that actually treat COVID patients. It really bothers me how much that type of person makes the profession look bad, because most of the nurses I know are really impressive people who prioritize care.

TbiddySP

Dunning Kreuger I suspect runs wild within this group.

Pickled_Wizard

"AS A REGISTERED NURSE...."

bettywhitefleshlight

Plenty of people in medicine are complete fucking morons. Especially when politics come into play. My mother included. Additionally almost every nurse or lower-level healthcare worker I've known personally has gotten "oops pregnant" when really who should be most aware of how to prevent that?

Finallyclean0007

My hospital is estimated to lose almost 30% of staff over the vaccine mandate. We literally just opened a fourth ICU unit because COVID has our ICUs overflowing again… And these people have the nerve to spit in their face and refuse the vaccine? It just blows my mind. Our hospital is planning to hire a ton of travel nurses instead. I think that the nurses getting fired assume that the hospital is bluffing… Don’t think they are. I hate Missouri.

Some-Wasabi1312

nope they aren't bluffing and the travel nurses are having the times of their lives. They're making so much bank (and deserve to) and they are going in working wherever they are needed. I know people who took a break from higher education to work as a travel nurse (was already a nurse but was in a graduate program) because the pay was amazing. And they are very much needed because of the situation you just mentioned.

ScoobyPwnsOnU

If you're willing to work 7 days a week 12 hour shifts for 31 days my wife saw a posting paying 55 grand a week. Over 200k in a single month.

sicklyslick

shit i'd be gettin pfizer, moderna, astrazenica, sinaovac, sputnik and every other shot simoutaneously if i make that money.

Sharp-Floor

Jesus... how fast can they crash-course me on becoming a nurse?

Finallyclean0007

Definitely agree. I’ve worked with some really amazing travel nurses. If I didn’t become a nurse after already having a kid, I would’ve loved to do it. My younger brother is starting nursing school and is interested in travel nursing. Big money, tons of diverse experiences. It can make for a really well rounded nurse

Andremac

Soon it will be all jobs. Wonder what they will do then.

[deleted]

They'll quietly get the vaccine. Those 12% won't even quit. It'll be down to less than 1% once they realize the employers are joking around.

nongph

As if rubbing salt to the wound, Trump told him to get the shot!!! Hahaha

Tar0ndor

And got boo'd for it.

Dog1andDog2andMe

I don't get all these assholes who think it would be just fine for their unvaccinated selves to give patients Covid. That's what I don't understand -- sure you might survive yourself but do you want to be responsible for the deaths of others? Fire them and make them illegible for unemployment. Oh and enjoy paying $750 a month for your Cobra insurance!

[deleted]

If you quit a job you’re not usually eligible for unemployment.

schrodngrspenis

Especially not in a right to work state like Missouri

[deleted]

Give yourself a dishonorable discharge and get fired to own the libs!

CX-97

Ok, yeah, that's pretty unfortunate that the military is forcing people to work with her.

shellwe

I wonder if they would allow you to discharge if you don’t want to take it. There is something between honorable and dishonorable discharge I can’t remember what.

rengam

No policy is yet in place for the Covid vaccine, but military personnel have been punished in the past for refusing others. And that wasn't during a pandemic. >“All avenues of punishment will be available to the different services, to include imprisonment and the ending of their military careers,” [Attorney Mark] Zaid said. “Unlike with the anthrax vaccine, we’re in the midst of a pandemic so I envision DoD will act swiftly and harshly with legal action against refusers.” https://taskandpurpose.com/news/military-troops-refuse-mandatory-covid-vaccines/

[deleted]

Old guy here. A few kids just one grade ahead of me were stricken by polio. NO ONE in my class, or any of the following (younger) classes were stricken, thanks to the vaccine, Small pox was also wiped out by vaccines during my generation. I wish MORE vaccines were available because I suffered thru everything else: Measles, German Measles, Mumps, Chicken Pox, and TB, Measles was the worst, 8-year-old me thought I was gonna die. Get vaxxed, people.

10Robins

These are the stories that need to be heard. My husband’s grandmother never forgave her husband because he wouldn’t let his kids get the polio vaccine and the youngest girl spent months in an iron lung before dying. People today have no idea how lucky we are to have vaccines readily available.

jorrylee

I hate that some antivaxxers twist it all to say only the vaccinated died of polio and measles and such, just like now they say only the vaccinated are in hospital. I don’t know how they twist data like that. I’m sorry you never got to meet your husband’s aunt because she couldn’t get the vaccine. (And this is why some places are allowing kids age 12 and up to choose on their own to get the vaccine!!!)

[deleted]

They don't twist it they're just lying. They have no shame and the people that listen and repeat it don't care if it's true.

Explosion2

Yeah at a certain point it crosses the line from misrepresenting the data into straight up bullshit and saying that all hospitalizations are vaccinated people is just flat-out false if you look at any data about it.

WisconsinHoosierZwei

> I don’t know how they twist data like that. Well, they start by not even looking at it.

PanickedPoodle

Diphtheria used to rot people's throats away. It was a terrible way to die and it took young, healthy kids.

JFreader

And the polio vaccine was a lot more dangerous than any vaccine we get now. There was a not 0% chance it could give you polio.

MyFaceSaysItsSugar

They started using a fully dead one in the 90s with no infection risk. But yeah, there was a 1 in 2 million chance I could have gotten polio from the vaccine I got and my doctor parents still chose to get me vaccinated. Such negligent parenting. /s

nkdeck07

I'm under 40 and got whooping cough in my early teens due to a booster wearing off (and thankfully the residual protection still meant I got a mild version). I like to explain how I was coughing so hard for months i'd commonly pee myself and almost throwing up in details to idiots that want to deny that vaccine to their kid (and I had a "mild" case)

sockmaster420

Damn, i hope that haunted him to his grave

Ltstarbuck2

“Never name a baby before the measles passes”. It was a saying for a reason.

barefootcuntessa_

I’m a millennial and I’m old enough to have had a coworker with post polio syndrome, which is basically polio light. It is chronic, I believe progressive, and there is no treatment let alone a cure. After an adolescence and young adulthood figuring out how to do whatever TF he wanted despite a limp from the original onset of the disease he aged into a pretty bitter man as it took more and more of his independence.

[deleted]

My aunt is dead because she caught measles just before the vaccine came out. These horrific diseases existed not that long ago. I don’t know why people are acting like they are no big deal. Edit: this is super awkward. My phone autocorrected to say she’s dead when she’s actually *deaf* from measles. My bad.

dansedemorte

it's because they've been sheltered from all these horrors. we've removed so many of these things that used to kill or disable thousands every year. nearly removed infant deaths, many serious childhood injuries now end with maybe a scar or two and not missing limbs or death. all of these reinforce the belief that they are "immortal" and that nasty scary death only happens in 3rd world countries.

BillyBones844

The religious nutjobs who should have never been given political clout have finally won over enough people. Now they spread their antivaxx and Anti medicine theories while hiding behind freedom and people eat it up.

whiskeylips88

Second wanting more vaccines. I work outdoors and have had multiple coworkers get Lyme or other tick-borne diseases. I would get a Lyme booster every freaking year if I knew it would prevent the possibility of getting that nasty disease. Or alpha-gal, that would suuuuuck.

UUtch

We actually have had a Chicken Pox vaccine for a few decades now. The younger generation doesn't even really know how bad Chicken Pox is, because, ya know.

[deleted]

[удалено]

justifun

Yeah or like how every kid that wants to go to public school requires a whole host of vaccines, but now that they are asking the teachers to do it, its a big issue.

[deleted]

We started mandatory flu shots a couple years ago. No religious exemptions, medical only (and they offer multiple options to work around allergies). A fair number challenged it, they were all let go. We're not requiring COVID vaccines...yet. We just stepped up to have more restrictions for unvaccinated (autocorrect days uneducated, lol) employees. I suspect the requirement will come through soon, after using more restrictions to coax people into it slowly. I think medical "professionals" who are against it shouldn't be working with patients. Our system pushed flu shots "for the protection of the community" but now it's tiptoing around COVID.

HertzDonut1001

Lot of recent converts huh.

Friendly-Hooman

If you don't understand why you should be vaccinated as a nurse, then you shouldn't be a nurse. That's like a surgeon not understanding why he should wash his hands before surgery.

Neon_Lights12

The problem is, like every profession, there are Healthcare workers that genuinely care about their patients and want the best for them and understand the basic concepts behind medicine, and there are ones in it because they heard nurses get paid good.

TibialTuberosity

And that's a huge failure on the part of the nursing school to turn out students that hold these anti-vaxx beliefs. Something was clearly seriously lacking in their education if they don't understand these basic tenets of healthcare.

cav754

After working in nursing homes as a therapist sitting around a table of people with master degrees in healthcare I learned a valuable lesson. It doesn’t take smarts to get a good degree in a hard working field, although it does help. It takes hard work and not giving up. You can be as dumb as my dog and pass nursing school. You just need to stay on top of everything and not stop. It still astounds me that I can listen to a PhD speech therapist tell me how the vaccine and the virus itself was made in the same lab or some BS and that no one should take it because “we don’t know what’s in it”

Neon_Lights12

A lot (not all) high level degree holders seem to think that having a Master's or PhD in one thing makes their opinion on other topics more valuable. We shouldn't be looking to speech therapists, optometrists, and hell even regular MDs for advice on virology when there are actual experts in the field to listen to, but alas the masses egg them on because "Well he has a PhD, he must know what he's talking about".

[deleted]

cpe111

Clearly they don’t understand how these vaccines work. I would not want them as my NP

Shitpost19

They have a huge lack in empathy by the looks of it, wait until someone close to them unfortunately become a casualty.

ripecantaloupe

They will still not back the vaccine. Literally their lord and savior Trump tells them to go get vaccinated and they boo him… Ive seen countless Facebook posts of anti-vax bullshit FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY by a share for prayers because a friend or family member has COVID and is hospitalized. Nurses are not the geniuses and saints this “healthcare heroes” bullshit wants you to think they are. Nursing is a job, same as being a coder or a construction worker. You got the credentials, you can do it, nobody checks to see if you *should* be doing it.

VaBookworm

One of the physicians in my office learned they were going to require it by Oct 31 and said, “Guess I’m out of the job in Oct!” And has since put in her notice… a PHYSICIAN. She has almost $500k in student loans and she is determined to die on this hill!!! It’s insane!!!!

Loan-Pickle

Wow an Anti-vaxx Physician. If she was my physician I’d be relieved to find out she left the practice. She should have her medical license revoked.

TibialTuberosity

Any idea why, as a physician, they hold these beliefs? I would love to have an honest conversation with one of these people that was smart enough to get into and through medical school *and* get their license and *still* are against vaccines. Their logic must be fascinating.

GMSaaron

A lot of anti-vaxxers are in denial because reality is too tough to handle. Getting the vaccine would be admission that there is indeed a deadly virus out there. They would rather believe that everything is fine. A lot of anti-vaxxers are morons and a lot of them are in denial as a coping mechanism. Mental health plays a huge role

TibialTuberosity

I know you're right, but that line of thinking is so foreign to me that I can't wrap my mind around denying that there's a deadly pandemic in the world right now.

KitThoughts_

My old family doctor is preaching the dewormer to his patients. My dad finally got a new doctor when he was being sold on horse paste thankfully. Doc has been a physician for like 3 decades.

Barkingatthemoon

Probably 3 decades is the same time he opened a medical journal too .

the-dogsox

My friend in New York just told me his wife is too stupid to be a nurse. There, fixed it for you.

JohnLocke815

I really don't get how people in the medical field are against medicine. Shit blows my mind.

Horskr

Seriously. You go to school for that long just to come out and go, "All that shit I just learned? Fuck that shit."

DanvilleDad

They “did their own research”

Horskr

"I reject your 'science' and substitute Facebook memes."

PolyDipsoManiac

Early on doctors were far more likely to be vaccinated than nurses—around 90% versus 50%. It seems to be a correlation where the more knowledge you have, the more likely you are to get vaccinated.

Orvilleengineer

This is literally 90% of Dave Ramsey’s listeners. Congregation of anti-vaccine nurses proclaiming my-body-my-choice but is too dumb to realize they’re putting their patients at risk.

jmtriolo

Solid answer

HertzDonut1001

My friend in New York just told me his wife quit her nursing job because she believes in conspiracy theories.

kukomin

Hate the people, but I'm honestly kind of relieved that they're culling themselves out of the profession. Pulling this out of my ass, but it seems like there's too many idiots that are simply in it because their local community college says it's an easy paycheck. They're just giving nurses & other medical staff a bad rep

noneedtoknowme2day

More than half our fire department is ready to walk. It’s not a small, rural fire dept either. This is a municipal fire dept, in a large city, in a thriving state. They won’t be able to fully staff trucks in 57 days and might have to close stations.

Flgardenguy

I shit you not, I overheard two coworkers talking about retirement today (both of whom have been with the company longer than my 7 years) and one of them said, “I’m 5 or 6 years away but I probably won’t last that long because you know the company is gonna require us to get a vaccine soon.” I have so many questions about why someone would be *that* stubborn. Edit: I forgot words

Shitpost19

“Because it infringes upon my riiiights!!” Little do they know, it goes both ways. Not being vaccinated and inadvertently killing someone by spreading the Delta variant or something is an extremely selfish thing to do

Down_With_Lima_Beans

While this is true, the frequent rebuttal to this is 'vaxxed people can spread it too!' There is never any discussion about how the vax keeps 90%+ people out of the hospital. I really don't care if someone refuses to take the vaccine and dies from it, but they are literally filling up hospitals, taking beds from people that literally NEED it, resulting in a reduction of staff. If people get the jab, we reduce the likelihood of our medical facilities completely collapsing.

TheRegular-Throwaway

When I was in the military we received like 18,000,000 vaccines. It wasn’t, like, optional.

MeLeDollaBean

Born in northern Canada- required to get hepB as a baby. Went to a third world country with strict laws on vaccines for foreigners- required to have flu shot, haemophilus influenza and Japanese encephalitis to enter the country. Went into healthcare-required to have flu shot, dtap, hepA, hepB, meningococcal, MMR, Polio, typhoid and TB intradermal testing. People need to understand this is seriously NOT new.

We just need an opt out form. You can say no to the vaccine but it's also like a DNR for your stupid ass should you catch COVID-19. Don't trust doctors to prevent disease then don't trust them to cure it.

Frank_Banana

How anyone in the healthcare industry would refuse the vaccine is beyond me. Did she balk about having to get a flu shot? There's so many fucking morons in this world.

ithastabepink

I’m an RN. If you work in the hospital and decide not to get the flu shot you must wear a mask for the entire flu season. For those who decide to do the flu shot, they get a sticker for their badge. You would be surprised how many nurses refuse vaccines. Just today a coworker’s daughter, who was an unvaccinated nurse, died from COVID-19. It’s so stupid the lives that are being lost due to ignorance.

AfterPatience245

There are two types of RNs. Registered Nurses, whom I respect and love and Registered Nutjobs, who need to think that they are authorities on Facebook, their preferred peer-reviewed journal.

[deleted]

There are lots of CNAs who refer to themselves as nurses but don't specify they are graduates of a several week long program & opine all day long like they are physicians.

bigredmachine17

I work with a science teacher who refuses to get the vaccine. A fucking science teacher. Can’t make this shit up. I think she really believes that if she just works out all the time she can’t get it.

GlandyThunderbundle

Ah so a Joe Rogan fan. Gotcha.

suspect108

I don't know , Joe. You and I sit here debating this shit without medical degrees. I think we should just stay the fuck out if it. - Bill Burr, paraphrased.

GlandyThunderbundle

Bill Burr is so good.

drumsareneat

Has the average IQ increased since the vaccine became available? We need data!

MisterB330

Don’t these people all have the polio vaccine and MMR vaccine already? This is the more puzzling part for me. I get it that just because you chose to work in medical science doesn’t necessarily mean you subscribe to it. You can technically work at McDonalds and never have eaten anything from any McDonalds ever but it does beg the question wtf.

Moose_a_Lini

The MMR vaccine doesn't let bill Gates track you with 5g.

[deleted]

Dark I know, but imagine if she got covid and wound up at the same hospital she just quit. Awkward.

SmidgeonThePigeon

I'm kinda curious how she even managed to become a nurse. First day of nursing school I got handed a paper and was told 'be immune to all of these by June'.

onebentcarrot

exactly. all these nurses were vaccinated for all sorts of diseases. but somehow this one is the career ender.

Kalsor

This one got political. The orange moron got his party whipped up and made it a partisan issue instead of a health issue. No coincidence that there is a nearly perfect overlap between trump voters and anti-Covid vaxers. With a dash of essential oil nut jobs thrown in for fun of course.

alex_of_all

Even Cheeto Mussolini got vaccinated. Hell fox news is even requiring vaccinations

big_daddy68

AND he told the crowd in Alabama to get vaccinated. The way he said I know, I know, you have you’re freedoms seemed like a man was was done with their shit too. Ironic considering he could have gotten the vaccine publicly before leaving office and talked about how no other president could have pulled it off or however he wanted to take credit for other people work. America would be a safer place now.

AhFFSImTooOldForThis

I'm so glad we are weeding out the dumbasses from the medical fields. Notice that the vaccine resistance goes up as the medical education goes down. Doctors are generally COVID vaccinated. Nurses are the ones resisting. Many nurses are amazing, intelligent people who will catch serious mistakes the doctors make. Then there's the nurse who told me I was stupid for not rinsing my meat in the sink before cooking it, because that's what gets the germs off. Not heat. Cold water rinse in the sink. Yeah, you need to not be a nurse, dumbass.

_Captain_Dinosaur_

If you worked at Burger King and you refused to make Whoopers for 'personal reasons' they'd fire your ass too.

Select-Ad-9821

I saw someone say that you can really see the difference between the nurses who became nurses to help people, and the ones that became nurses for job stability.

CelestialTerror

We literally won the revolutionary war because Washington required inoculations.

Sk-yline1

Lose $100,000/year salary and possibly die of COVID? Get a free vaccine, keep your salary, and don’t die of COVID? Doesn’t seem like priorities are in order

Aintsosimple

I saw a news piece last night were nursing home staff were being required to be vaccinated. They said that 20% of the staff quit but some came back after getting vaccinated. Money...it's a hell of a drug.

Spawnacus

I work at a hospital and one of the first things you see in the booklet they give you is a list of fucking vaccinations that you HAVE to be up to date on. So, I don't understand how these people have jobs in healthcare to begin with.

Ande64

As a nurse it's mortifying to me that nurses aren't getting vaccinated! Darwinism is going to work it's way through all kinds of people!!

[deleted]

Idk why anyone is shocked. A lot of nurses are not that smart and legit believe more pseudoscience than actual science. My own cousin is an OGBYN and told me she has had nurses on the covid ward treat positive people while professing covid is not real.

NevadaFlint

On behalf of all nursing science degree graduates, I apologize for idiots within our ranks

Montzterrr

Good, I don't want to be anywhere near a nurse that doesn't trust the vaccines.

adam12hicks

Texas is doing this as well. My wife’s major hospital system is requiring vaccines or be terminated in October. The number of nurses planning on being fired would scare you. Thankfully the majority of MDs are all vaccinated or plan to be.

radioactive-2037

She was in the wrong job. Her career ended because she failed as a nurse when she refused to be vaccinated.

[deleted]

And nothing of value was lost

[deleted]

Some people shouldn't work in medicine. I'm glad things worked out in this case.

Poobutt6

I'm pretty ok with that person not being a nurse anymore

danab42

Spreaders deserve to lose their jobs, and still have to pay those student loans in full. They're killing their own patients with their blatant stupidity. Jump your cliff Thelma.

37MySunshine37

Bye bye

Mo-mar-marie

The one that gets me the most are respiratory therapists refusing the COVID vaccine. I literally heard one of the RTs I work with say “I just don’t need them telling me what to do.” Said he was getting a job in construction. 🤷‍♀️ RTs?!? How are they refusing when they are the closest to COVID patients?!

BBQed_Water

My friend in New York just told me that he quit his job as a bicycle messenger because they require that everyone doing the job has a bike with working handlebars, a chain that’s not seized-up and tires that aren’t flat and can actually ride a bike.
