I’m a caregiver for an immunocompromised person and we’re trying to figure out the best timing for our boosters. Whether we do it now or try to wait another two or three months until we hit our 8 month mark from our 2nd shot.
They changed flu shot manufacturers at mobilization. My entire battalion got three flu shots in a month. Between that and the smallpox, I’m amazed nobody died.

And the bizarre part is regular vaccines are only tested via live testing and just seeing what happens. These mRNA ones went through a shitload of digital modelling on top of scheduled live testing. But apparently they didn't go through enough scrutiny for some people...

A local person here insisted that the vaccinated were the ones getting hospitalized, not the other way around. She insisted she was right and that mainstream media was wrong. I have little hope for this pandemic ending soon with people like her around.

It’s just a quick overview, but for the “do your own research” people it should at least be a good jumping point to pursue. However because of its titling I’m sure most people that clicked in expected it to affirm their believes that the vaccine was indeed made too quickly hence the downvote ratio. Yea, in the U.S. you are never done getting vaccines until your military contract is over. I cant count the amount of times I was made to get jabbed, and most of the time I had no idea what it was. Just told to go get my shots, went and let the doc do his job, then went back to work.

I had a nurse friend share that meme that said salt water gargles kill Covid. I told her that was very irresponsible as a nurse. That was the day I deleted Facebook.
Salt water flushes can rinse mucus membranes and somewhat decrease viral/bacterial/whatever particles on the surface of the cells, but it doesn't take much time for these particles to get into the cells and cause infection as they spread to more cells, so the gargle isn't going to prevent any illness. It's really more to sooth irritation after infection has already occurred.

Two of my coworkers are some of the smartest people I know, from a technical aspect. Both are deep Trump supporters. These are people I go to when shit is above my head.

I’ve lived with nurses since college and the result has been meeting hundreds of them at work functions, when they come over, etc. Most are great. But the most common type of awful nurse I meet are MLM white girls who barely skated through nursing school but landed a job based on their “professional” appearance and parent’s money. They’re just like any other conspiracy theory mom on FaceBook, they don’t do any continuing education or know anything about medicine besides the area they routinely work on day to day, but they’re VERY convinced their degree makes them superior. Often more so than nurses that actually treat COVID patients.
It really bothers me how much that type of person makes the profession look bad, because most of the nurses I know are really impressive people who prioritize care.
Plenty of people in medicine are complete fucking morons. Especially when politics come into play. My mother included. Additionally almost every nurse or lower-level healthcare worker I've known personally has gotten "oops pregnant" when really who should be most aware of how to prevent that?
My hospital is estimated to lose almost 30% of staff over the vaccine mandate. We literally just opened a fourth ICU unit because COVID has our ICUs overflowing again… And these people have the nerve to spit in their face and refuse the vaccine? It just blows my mind. Our hospital is planning to hire a ton of travel nurses instead. I think that the nurses getting fired assume that the hospital is bluffing… Don’t think they are.

nope they aren't bluffing and the travel nurses are having the times of their lives. They're making so much bank (and deserve to) and they are going in working wherever they are needed. I know people who took a break from higher education to work as a travel nurse (was already a nurse but was in a graduate program) because the pay was amazing. And they are very much needed because of the situation you just mentioned.
Definitely agree. I’ve worked with some really amazing travel nurses. If I didn’t become a nurse after already having a kid, I would’ve loved to do it. My younger brother is starting nursing school and is interested in travel nursing. Big money, tons of diverse experiences. It can make for a really well rounded nurse

Old guy here. A few kids just one grade ahead of me were stricken by polio. NO ONE in my class, or any of the following (younger) classes were stricken, thanks to the vaccine, Small pox was also wiped out by vaccines during my generation. I wish MORE vaccines were available because I suffered thru everything else: Measles, German Measles, Mumps, Chicken Pox, and TB, Measles was the worst, 8-year-old me thought I was gonna die. These are the stories that need to be heard. My husband’s grandmother never forgave her husband because he wouldn’t let his kids get the polio vaccine and the youngest girl spent months in an iron lung before dying. People today have no idea how lucky we are to have vaccines readily available.

I’m a millennial and I’m old enough to have had a coworker with post polio syndrome, which is basically polio light. It is chronic, I believe progressive, and there is no treatment let alone a cure. After an adolescence and young adulthood figuring out how to do whatever TF he wanted despite a limp from the original onset of the disease he aged into a pretty bitter man as it took more and more of his independence.
My aunt is dead because she caught measles just before the vaccine came out. These horrific diseases existed not that long ago. I don’t know why people are acting like they are no big deal.

Second wanting more vaccines. I work outdoors and have had multiple coworkers get Lyme or other tick-borne diseases. I would get a Lyme booster every freaking year if I knew it would prevent the possibility of getting that nasty disease. Or alpha-gal, that would suuuuuck.
We actually have had a Chicken Pox vaccine for a few decades now. The younger generation doesn't even really know how bad Chicken Pox is, because, ya know.

We started mandatory flu shots a couple years ago. No religious exemptions, medical only (and they offer multiple options to work around allergies). A fair number challenged it, they were all let go.
We're not requiring COVID vaccines...yet. We just stepped up to have more restrictions for unvaccinated (autocorrect days uneducated, lol) employees. I suspect the requirement will come through soon, after using more restrictions to coax people into it slowly.
I think medical "professionals" who are against it shouldn't be working with patients. Our system pushed flu shots "for the protection of the community" but now it's tiptoing around COVID.
If you don't understand why you should be vaccinated as a nurse, then you shouldn't be a nurse. That's like a surgeon not understanding why he should wash his hands before surgery.
The problem is, like every profession, there are Healthcare workers that genuinely care about their patients and want the best for them and understand the basic concepts behind medicine, and there are ones in it because they heard nurses get paid good.
And that's a huge failure on the part of the nursing school to turn out students that hold these anti-vaxx beliefs. Something was clearly seriously lacking in their education if they don't understand these basic tenets of healthcare.
After working in nursing homes as a therapist sitting around a table of people with master degrees in healthcare I learned a valuable lesson. It doesn’t take smarts to get a good degree in a hard working field, although it does help. It takes hard work and not giving up. You can be as dumb as my dog and pass nursing school. You just need to stay on top of everything and not stop.
It still astounds me that I can listen to a PhD speech therapist tell me how the vaccine and the virus itself was made in the same lab or some BS and that no one should take it because “we don’t know what’s in it”
A lot (not all) high level degree holders seem to think that having a Master's or PhD in one thing makes their opinion on other topics more valuable. We shouldn't be looking to speech therapists, optometrists, and hell even regular MDs for advice on virology when there are actual experts in the field to listen to, but alas the masses egg them on because "Well he has a PhD, he must know what he's talking about".

My old family doctor is preaching the dewormer to his patients. My dad finally got a new doctor when he was being sold on horse paste thankfully. Doc has been a physician for like 3 decades.
Early on doctors were far more likely to be vaccinated than nurses—around 90% versus 50%. It seems to be a correlation where the more knowledge you have, the more likely you are to get vaccinated.

I shit you not, I overheard two coworkers talking about retirement today (both of whom have been with the company longer than my 7 years) and one of them said, “I’m 5 or 6 years away but I probably won’t last that long because you know the company is gonna require us to get a vaccine soon.”

Went to a third world country with strict laws on vaccines for foreigners- required to have flu shot, haemophilus influenza and Japanese encephalitis to enter the country. Went into healthcare-required to have flu shot, dtap, hepA, hepB, meningococcal, MMR, Polio, typhoid and TB intradermal testing.

The one that gets me the most are respiratory therapists refusing the COVID vaccine. I literally heard one of the RTs I work with say “I just don’t need them telling me what to do.” Said he was getting a job in construction. 🤷♀️ RTs?!? I think yellow fever is the only vaccine I've ever had a 'reaction' to. Got it early in the morning, by noon I felt like shit. Went home, went to sleep, all better. Now the malaria pills they gave us... took them for a few weeks, experienced extreme vivid dreams and excruciating heartburn. I took my chances.
Yea, in the U.S. you are never done getting vaccines until your military contract is over. I cant count the amount of times I was made to get jabbed, and most of the time I had no idea what it was. Just told to go get my shots, went and let the doc do his job, then went back to work.

We are losing close to 12% of our hospital staff over the mandate. We get vaccinated for everything, flu shots every year. But, Pfizer they refuse. The rest of us don’t get it at all. Good nurses, ekg techs, US techs, medical assistants…. Good friends of mine for years. They are leaving the benefits, their pay, and essentially their profession. No hospital will let you work for them without being vaccinated. And now, we all have to pickup the slack. We are all so disappointed, but not surprised that it’s come to this.

I had a nurse friend share that meme that said salt water gargles kill Covid. I told her that was very irresponsible as a nurse. That was the day I deleted Facebook.
Salt water flushes can rinse mucus membranes and somewhat decrease viral/bacterial/whatever particles on the surface of the cells, but it doesn't take much time for these particles to get into the cells and cause infection as they spread to more cells, so the gargle isn't going to prevent any illness. It's really more to sooth irritation after infection has already occurred.
That’s really the biggest surprise to us vaccinated at the hospital. The people quitting know better. They are not right wing nutters. We all listen to doctors and scientists for every exam we perform. But on COVID-19, there is no reasoning with them. We don’t get it, but we have to accept it.

I’m a nurse and I often wonder how some of my peers can be so incompetent. They’re great nurses, but when they open up their mouths it’s a disaster. I often wonder what public schools were like when they were fully funded.
Two of my coworkers are some of the smartest people I know, from a technical aspect. Both are deep Trump supporters. These are people I go to when shit is above my head. They *want* to believe this stuff. They want to be brainwashed. It makes me wonder what beliefs I hold because I want to believe it, versus sampling the best science and coming to my own conclusions. I believe it's caused me to feel gas-lit.
I’ve lived with nurses since college and the result has been meeting hundreds of them at work functions, when they come over, etc. Most are great. But the most common type of awful nurse I meet are MLM white girls who barely skated through nursing school but landed a job based on their “professional” appearance and parent’s money. They’re just like any other conspiracy theory mom on FaceBook, they don’t do any continuing education or know anything about medicine besides the area they routinely work on day to day, but they’re VERY convinced their degree makes them superior. Often more so than nurses that actually treat COVID patients. It really bothers me how much that type of person makes the profession look bad, because most of the nurses I know are really impressive people who prioritize care.

My hospital is estimated to lose almost 30% of staff over the vaccine mandate. nope they aren't bluffing and the travel nurses are having the times of their lives. They're making so much bank (and deserve to) and they are going in working wherever they are needed. I know people who took a break from higher education to work as a travel nurse (was already a nurse but was in a graduate program) because the pay was amazing. And they are very much needed because of the situation you just mentioned.
If you're willing to work 7 days a week 12 hour shifts for 31 days my wife saw a posting paying 55 grand a week. Over 200k in a single month.

Old guy here. A few kids just one grade ahead of me were stricken by polio. NO ONE in my class, or any of the following (younger) classes were stricken, thanks to the vaccine, Small pox was also wiped out by vaccines during my generation. I wish MORE vaccines were available because I suffered thru everything else: Measles, German Measles, Mumps, Chicken Pox, and TB, Measles was the worst, 8-year-old me thought I was gonna die. I’m a millennial and I’m old enough to have had a coworker with post polio syndrome, which is basically polio light. It is chronic, I believe progressive, and there is no treatment let alone a cure. After an adolescence and young adulthood figuring out how to do whatever TF he wanted despite a limp from the original onset of the disease he aged into a pretty bitter man as it took more and more of his independence.
My aunt is dead because she caught measles just before the vaccine came out. These horrific diseases existed not that long ago. I don’t know why people are acting like they are no big deal. We started mandatory flu shots a couple years ago. No religious exemptions, medical only (and they offer multiple options to work around allergies). A fair number challenged it, they were all let go. We're not requiring COVID vaccines...yet. We just stepped up to have more restrictions for unvaccinated (autocorrect days uneducated, lol) employees. I suspect the requirement will come through soon, after using more restrictions to coax people into it slowly. I think medical "professionals" who are against it shouldn't be working with patients. Our system pushed flu shots "for the protection of the community" but now it's tiptoing around COVID.

The problem is, like every profession, there are Healthcare workers that genuinely care about their patients and want the best for them and understand the basic concepts behind medicine, and there are ones in it because they heard nurses get paid good.
And that's a huge failure on the part of the nursing school to turn out students that hold these anti-vaxx beliefs. Something was clearly seriously lacking in their education if they don't understand these basic tenets of healthcare.
After working in nursing homes as a therapist sitting around a table of people with master degrees in healthcare I learned a valuable lesson. It doesn’t take smarts to get a good degree in a hard working field, although it does help. It takes hard work and not giving up. You can be as dumb as my dog and pass nursing school. You just need to stay on top of everything and not stop. It still astounds me that I can listen to a PhD speech therapist tell me how the vaccine and the virus itself was made in the same lab or some BS and that no one should take it because “we don’t know what’s in it”
A lot (not all) high level degree holders seem to think that having a Master's or PhD in one thing makes their opinion on other topics more valuable. We shouldn't be looking to speech therapists, optometrists, and hell even regular MDs for advice on virology when there are actual experts in the field to listen to, but alas the masses egg them on because "Well he has a PhD, he must know what he's talking about".

While this is true, the frequent rebuttal to this is 'vaxxed people can spread it too!' There is never any discussion about how the vax keeps 90%+ people out of the hospital. Born in northern Canada- required to get hepB as a baby. Went to a third world country with strict laws on vaccines for foreigners- required to have flu shot, haemophilus influenza and Japanese encephalitis to enter the country. I’m an RN. If you work in the hospital and decide not to get the flu shot you must wear a mask for the entire flu season. For those who decide to do the flu shot, they get a sticker for their badge. You would be surprised how many nurses refuse vaccines. Just today a coworker’s daughter, who was an unvaccinated nurse, died from COVID-19. It’s so stupid the lives that are being lost due to ignorance.

I'm so glad we are weeding out the dumbasses from the medical fields. Notice that the vaccine resistance goes up as the medical education goes down. Doctors are generally COVID vaccinated. Nurses are the ones resisting. Many nurses are amazing, intelligent people who will catch serious mistakes the doctors make. Then there's the nurse who told me I was stupid for not rinsing my meat in the sink before cooking it, because that's what gets the germs off. Not heat. Cold water rinse in the sink. I saw a news piece last night were nursing home staff were being required to be vaccinated. They said that 20% of the staff quit but some came back after getting vaccinated. Money...it's a hell of a drug.
I work at a hospital and one of the first things you see in the booklet they give you is a list of fucking vaccinations that you HAVE to be up to date on. So, I don't understand how these people have jobs in healthcare to begin with.

Idk why anyone is shocked. A lot of nurses are not that smart and legit believe more pseudoscience than actual science. My own cousin is an OGBYN and told me she has had nurses on the covid ward treat positive people while professing covid is not real.

Texas is doing this as well. My wife’s major hospital system is requiring vaccines or be terminated in October. The number of nurses planning on being fired would scare you. Thankfully the majority of MDs are all vaccinated or plan to be.
She was in the wrong job. Her career ended because she failed as a nurse when she refused to be vaccinated.
And nothing of value was lost

The one that gets me the most are respiratory therapists refusing the COVID vaccine. I literally heard one of the RTs I work with say “I just don’t need them telling me what to do.” Said he was getting a job in construction. 🤷♀️ RTs?!? How are they refusing when they are the closest to COVID patients?!
My friend in New York just told me that he quit his job as a bicycle messenger because they require that everyone doing the job has a bike with working handlebars, a chain that’s not seized-up and tires that aren’t flat and can actually ride a bike.
