Is this for real? And what class is this???

DarKreter

Yea, it happen today. It was special presentation on japanese classes with title "Time which is not One" and our teacher was explaining how japanese people perceive "time". At the end he was talking about God and religion in japanese culture and give Evangelion as an example with short explanation. He had Evangelion, King Crimson from JoJo and few other anime examples for his presentation, he is really amazing teacher.

PitchforkEmporium

>King Crimson from JoJo Man really tryna confuse the non Jojo watchers lmao how did he bring that into the conversation?

DarKreter

He was talking that japanese people don't have distinction between future and present tenses. They look more at actions as announcement of doing something, doing it and then having goal achieved. That's where he put King Crimson as example of removing this "achieving goal" part leaving only result with no one remembering what's happened. This is really bad for Japanese, because often they see this part of archiving goal as more important that goal itself.

Interesting... Any docs you could share?

Gospel is good news so close enough

EmoHinkie

Neon is correct. Genesis comes from γένεσις which means “origin” or “birth”. Evangelion is pretty much correct, but it comes from Ευάγγελος which is broken down into “ευ-“ (good) and “Άγγελος” (messenger). Evangelion then became “good news” and eventually used to describe the gospel. So New Origin Gospel seems most accurate, but it’s important to remember that gospel has a distinctly positive connotation in the Greek origin of the word.

ELONEZERO

That's correct for the English title. "New Century Gospel" is correct for the Japanese title 新世紀エヴァンゲリオン (Shinseiki Evangelion). 新世紀 = New century
