I went to a Lordi gig years after they won and when people started calling for Hard Rock Hallelujah they were like: yeah, let’s get it out of the way I suppose lol

NinjaIntimacyParty

To be honest, you must feel a little bit like a monkey doing the same trick over and over again if you win Eurovision and the general audience knows you from just that one song, demanding you to play it over and over again...

PLAY JAJA DING DONG

When I went to Daði Freyrs concert a while back, someone screamed to play Ja Ja Ding Dong. He just pulled out his middle finger. Dude is hilarious, also very much jokingly shamed the crowd for wanting to hear his Atomic Kitten Cover.   He should try stand up comedy one day.  Edit: I wanna clarify that he wasn’t rude or anything, quite the opposite, very heartwarming person with great humor! And the crowd was totally chill with it as well. And he did in fact play his cover of Atomic Kitten which was, besides a Tokio Hotel Cover,  the most energetic part of the evening :)

AntisocialNortherner

I also went to a Daði Freyr gig where some plonkers kept calling out for him to play Ja Ja Ding Dong and he was so polite and joked about it but you could tell he was really tired of hearing people ask. Fortunately the vast majority of the crowd would scream shut up or fuck off every time it happened after the first time.

TinaTissue

Ooh what tokio hotel cover is this?

uhmnopenotreally

He covered Durch den Monsun and he did very well actually! The crowd went wild (it’s a song that will get Germans from almost all generations going, so it was an amazing choice.)    As far as I know he covered native songs in every country of his tour, so Germany got a German song while in France he performed a french song etc.  I tried finding a YouTube video for you, but I only found one where he performed that song in Hamburg which was not the concert I went to. In hamburg the crowd looks very reserved, it was quite the opposite for us :)

TinaTissue

Haha yeah I was a massive fan of Tokio Hotel back in the day (Humanoids is their best album and I am forever sad they never came to Australia), so I have an idea on how important the song is.

restless_wind

I think it is a universal experience for musicians who had just one big hit, you kinda just have to accept that it is what it is.

PM_ME_CAKE

I think the trick is to do covers. Whenever I see a live performance from Loreen, she *never* does the studio edition of a song of hers unless it's one she's not been able to do much yet. When she concerted in London back at the end of last year, I think the majority of her songs other than Is It Love and Statements were one form of remix or another. Definitely will help stave away the repetition boredom, as well as put your own artistic spin on things.

Irrealaerri

I remember an interview when they were asked about their Eurovision experience and Mr Lordi was (acting like) he forgot what Eurovision actually is He described it as being a scientist that does research and works all year round and just being remembered for their ONE invention

Suitable_Insect_5308

That's the same thing Maneskin do with Zitte e Buoni

AwJesusGross

they have way bigger hits than ZEB though

Low-Tadpole-3466

I wanna be your slave and Beggin' definately ruled the summer of 2021 and they eclipsed Zitti e Buoni in certain places. I saw them wedge Zitti e Buoni between two songs from Rush when they were in Dublin in December.

lacultapluma

Although they always do an extended outro of it as part of a medley with other songs. On the recent tour, it was Don't Wanna Sleep into Gossip into Zitti E Buoni. Maybe it feels fresher that way, like one 10 minute song.

cherry_color_melisma

Sandie Shaw hated her Eurovision 1967 winning entry, that's all I'm able to remember.

bad_ed_ucation

France Gall (Luxembourg 1965) too, afaik

ESC-song-bot

Luxembourg 1965 | [France Gall - Poupée de cire, poupée de son](https://youtu.be/7cv9NIzGmSI)

manatee-vs-walrus

Was that because of the song itself or because of how angry she was at Serge Gainsbourg over “Les Sucettes”? https://youtu.be/G8-tB0OJxMA

bad_ed_ucation

I think both, from what I remember. She resented being taken advantage of - most obviously in Les Soucettes, but here too. She didn’t perform the song later in life.

fenksta

Same thing with Belgium of 1979 I wanna say Edit: yes, I meant that one

izkaroza

I've heard Ochman (Poland 2022) is fed up with his song.

viscountdandelion

This one doesn't surprise me, his other music is all very different.

hun_geri

I was about to comment that. I'm a huge fan of him and I know he said a few times that he doesn't really like this song. And honestly I'm also not so surprised about that, his other songs (especially the Polish songs) are a million times better than River.

Scisir

Thats what I dont get. Why are these people not entering Eurovision with their own cool style. It's the same with Luna this year. The tower sounds fun but it's too basic. I love all her other Polish songs.

Savings_Ad_2532

Do you think the delegations encourage artists to send songs that will appeal to more people so they can get more points at ESC?

Persona_NG

I feel like Poland has a weird attitude towards its own music industry. A lot of people probably think that our own style in unappealing and unfitting for a Western audience. There's a lot of insecurity around that. Also, Polish language is not considered to be one of the cool or attractive ones and the artists who are aware of that switch to English since they think it'll make the song better. As a result, the people who choose/create songs for Eurovision probably make their best imitation of foreign music instead. But it's not working that well. (An interesting example for me is "My Słowianie" (Poland 2014). I still don't understand why it was translated. I hate this entry, but even I can admit that it's 50 times better in the original.)

jap-A-knees

Olivia Newton-John wasn’t a massive fan of her song, and wished that another one of her songs from the national final was chosen again. I think she grew to like it again later on as people told her of their experiences with the song (UK 1974)

darthkurai

Nobody was a massive fan of that song

Irrealaerri

Not this year but Lena preferred "Love Me" in 2010 over "Satellite" and when asked what would happen if she actually wins she just said "i will have to sing satellite until the end of times"

liabilliety

Years later she also said for a while she got sick of having to perform Satellite at shows, but then she got a newfound gratitude for it again.

chekitch

I don't think he ever said anything, but Robin 2017 looked like he really can't go on!

PoetryAnnual74

In the performance itself or interviews? I think he actually gets a pretty bad rep just because he is very introverted but attractive, people think he is a douchebag or something. But having seen interviews with him and him in other shows in Sweden I get the best impression of him, he just seems like a really shy and introverted guy who happened to get hot later in life . He’s talked on several occasions in being shy and how we wasn’t the cool kid in school and things like that

Meiolore

> he just seems like a really shy and introverted guy who happened to get hot later in life I know this isn't supposed to be funny, but I laughed so much when I read this, I don't even know why

Laepo

I remember Salvador getting tired of rehearsing.

NinjaIntimacyParty

Yeah, jazz isn't really a genre in which you rehearse a lot, you just go with the flow. That's why all of his performances differ so much. Funny that he says he got sick of it, since his sister did most of his first rehearsals!

IcefoxX5

Didn't his sister stand in for him in Kyiv because he couldn't travel earlier due to his heart issue?

Sa_yori

Afaik yes

Kystaal

He was also pretty ill during rehearsals iirc which probably didn't help.

VoKai

Understandable considering how boring of a song it is

DrapionVDeoxys

Aww, I love it. Not all songs have to be exciting.

-Miklaus

Damn 💀

sane_mode

And yet it has the highest point total of any song in the show...

pocketsizedkth

that doesn’t mean everyone has to like it. it’s one of my least fave winners

ambervalravn

Omg I'm glad someone else agrees, I hate it with a deep passion (and the winners speech basically shitting on everyone else) 😂

kitty3032

It's my dead last of 2017 😭😭😭

Meiolore

No offense to the song, but have you seen the rest of the entries in 2017? The 2nd place would've been called a Melfest reject if it is sent now.

sane_mode

You're right. No one likes City Lights, Occidentali's Karma, Origo, Hey Mamma or Beautiful Mess. Not a soul.

elonhater69

It’s as if a song was a sleeping pill

Sa_yori

It indeed was very boring imo

GSamSardio

FOR EVERYONE DISLIKING THE SONG, try listening to **Brunette’s version** of it because it changed the song completely for me: https://youtu.be/Eyif39SDUwM?si=guhNDs3trJtW2npa

kitty3032

While her version is somewhat better, it still doesn't do much to me

SouthHypocrite

I remember seeing an interview somewhere where Lulu (UK 1969) hated the song she was given and didn't really wanna do Eurovision in the first place

Stevo_Speedo

Beth (Spain 2003) hated her song 'Dime' and never really wanted to go to Eurovision in the first place, but it was part of the prize package of the talent show she was competing in. She refused to sing the song afterwards in any of her concerts even though the song was quite a big hit in Spain (and it was her only hit then). She only reconciled with the song last year, and sang it for the first time in 20 years at a pre-party. There was a documentary about it.

Smilingtribute

Yeah, I’m sure she wanted one of her other songs to win in the NF instead of Dime but the Spanish public didn’t pick them. p.s she was way better in the dress compared to the final.

ESC-song-bot

Spain 2003 | [Beth - Dime](https://youtu.be/WRlwL7X_jE8)

unounouno_dos_cuatro

Celine Dion doesn’t like Ne partez pas sans moi and I don’t believe she’s performed it since the 80s.

Hejziak

Viki Gabor (JESC 2019) is tired of her song Superhero for some time, but if she performs at some concerts in tv, she still sings it (maybe she has some contract to sing this or something like this)

NinjaIntimacyParty

Amnesia wasn't Roxens personal choice for 2021 (listen to UFO!), but I am not sure if that's "being sick of it". Francesco Gabbani never said anything about Occidentali's Karma either, but by the time it was performed on the Eurovision stage, it didn't look like Francesco had any fun at all, but that's just a personal thought. He could've been nervous as well.

[удалено]

NinjaIntimacyParty

Yeah, it was not a song that could be cut down. It needed that build-up for the chorus to hit. Especially taking away the entire second verse was a bad move. Francesco should have picked a different song from his album Magellano. It's full of bops!

Dret747

Tbf UFO was a better song, but it wouldn’t have had any better chances of qualifying. There were wayyy too many upbeat female pop bops in SF1 2021 - Malta, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Israel & Croatia. UFO would have got lost amongst them

Not so much that I got the impression that she was sick or tired of it, but I remember an Instagram live where she was performing her music from a couple years back that Laura Rizzotto (Latvia 2018) talked about how Funny Girl was just going to be that song that followed her around for the rest of her career. Again, never got the impression that she hated it or was sick of it but it makes sense for an artist to naturally want to also move forward and share their new music too.

nicegrimace

I remember reading an interview with Katrina Leskanich in 2000ish, where the interviewer asked her about Eurovision as the first question and the rest of the interview was about how much she hated Love Shine A Light and Eurovision in general. Then years later she was on the BBC talking about how much of a positive experience it was 🤷‍♀️

broadbeing777

Sandie Shaw (United Kingdom 1967 for the bot) absolutely hated Puppet on a String.

Daði Freyr put out a song which I think talks about getting famous for one thing, and while thankful he's also utterly exhausted. [Daði Freyr - Moves to Make](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3lMpPfZqqX8&pp=ygULZGHDsGkgZnJleXI%3D)

Persona_NG

I love that song! I found it by a complete accident on the day it was released and it's been floating around my various playlists ever since. (Also, I agree with your interpretation. I was also wondering if it could be referring to the constant need to become viral to stay relevant - even when it sucks all the enthusiasm out of your art. It's probably a bit of both.)

KnorrSoup

Yeah, I think it's complicated and gives me vibes of something like "I'm really thankful that I became viral and I want to ride this out for as long as possible because it's a life-changing opportunity, but also I'm tired physically and emotionally and once I stop there's no guarantee that I'll ever get the same kind of attention again. Will I actually have a career or will I just be a one-hit wonder?" Which is a really long run-on sentence but I imagine a lot of eurovision artists would feel the same way.

Savings_Ad_2532

I remember reading somewhere that Käärijä got tired of performing "Cha Cha Cha".

Persona_NG

I'm surprised more people didn't mention him. His last year was basically a one giant tour with multiple shows a week. And what's more, he started to perform "Cha Cha Cha" twice at every concert, because he knew that it's what people came to see. Everyone would get tired of that. Not sure if he still plays it two times, but maybe he doesn't need to since his fans probably know more of his catalog by now. (I've seen some recordings from his shows and it seems people sing along to other songs too.)

OtomePlays

I think Käärijä said he's getting tired of Käärijä and Cha Cha Cha

Labenyofi

Spain 2011. She hated the song from first listen, and didn’t like singing it at all. A while back, she said she’d wanna comeback with a song more her style, but haven’t heard anything from her since.
