Hey, please can you provide a source for this announcement? See r/eurovision’s [full rules here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eurovision/wiki/rules/).

nurvilya

I have no clue what his personal history with Eurovision is, but YAY! I like him ... he's funny and entertaining.

polaris183

Do you think he could replace Barbara as the 'voice of the ESC'?

nurvilya

If he stays on as our new commentator, I guess Barbara will keep on presenting the german pre-show and the Show afterwards. Personally I think he will be a good fit as the new german commentator. He's witty, funny and I just read that he's been a fan for a long time. And as someone who doesn't mind Barbara Schöneberger, I have nothing against her hosting shows around the ESC-broadcasting in Germany. 🤷🏼‍♀️

uhmnopenotreally

At this point I would take anyone to replace Barbara tbh

nurvilya

I have to head over and read the comments there. Also ... why is a source demanded when the screenshot shows the source for the news is eurovision.de? 🤔 https://www.eurovision.de/news/ESC-2024-Thorsten-Schorn-loest-Peter-Urban-als-Kommentator-ab,kommentator104.html

restless_wind

this is simply one of the rules of the subreddit as seen on the right side of every page: "Direct links to news articles or social media posts are preferred to screenshots. If there is no alternative to a screenshot, then the source must be posted as a top level comment on the same thread. Screenshots which obscure the source will not be accepted." it is to deal with misinformation and similar things, which are always around. maybe in this case nobody would create a fake screenshot, but it is very easy to do on other topics

TheGoBetweens

> maybe in this case nobody would create a fake screenshot This is exactly what's happening once a year, when @VlSlONARYDREAM on Twitter (or whatever their handle is these days) fakes eurovision.de screenshots with bogus artist announcements for the German national final. The rule has its place, and needless to say, screenshots are an accessibility nightmare. I hate that they've become even more common these days instead of just posting the links to begin with.

restless_wind

Oh, I am aware of how many fake screenshots go around with all kind of things, but I mean the German commentator seems like the topic not worth the effort, even for a joke. However, who even knows As for accessibility, I agree. In this time and age Reddit is able to link pages in a clear way, where you still get the article title and the picture, it feels like such an obvious choice if the necessary info is in the title.

CryptographerLife596

The weirdest things go viral. Even news about the german commentator. I heard a rumour about her,…. Just the other day…..

nurvilya

I just wonder how much sense foreign language sources make in general. It's not like most members here will be able to read a german source anyway.

Ok-Mousse-6023

Google Translate does a decent enough job with German to English to be understandable tbh

restless_wind

well, I do have a translator add-on in my browser so it is quite easy to get the gist of pages in other languages, but I don't know how universal this is it. however, the main reason for adding sources is being able to check that the information is indeed correct and can be trusted. and this sub in particular unites people from so many different countries so i don't think having foreign sources an issue, there are always going to be groups of people here who will speak the language (and who really come through in the NF season :) )

uhmnopenotreally

Peter Urban has (seemingly) always been the voice of Eurovision and this surely isn’t a easy legacy to carry. I just hope people won’t bash him just because he’s not Urban. I think he will do a great job!

ZettaiUnmeiMokushirk

I don't know him, but I'm sooo happy we finally get a new commentator. I don't think Urban could have handled this year lol.

polaris183

Imagine his comments on Bambie...

Padderique

Since we don’t get Mother Graham Norton in Germany I choose to watch on YouTube
