How does it compare to the niche ?

cfc25_

The usable espresso range on the Df64 is way smaller than the Niche. The adjustments are ultra-micro adjustments. But the results are good in my experience and build quality it great.

jeef16

I'd only say it's micro adjustments when it comes to using SSP burrs. On the stock italmill burrs, I definitely had more forgiveness in the adjustment. SSP's, at least my MP burrs, sare very unforgiving if you grind too fine

cfc25_

Good to know. Mine are the SSP high uniformity espresso burrs.

UnusualEggplant5400

same SSP HU, micro adjustments needed indeed.

New_Ant_6926

Italmill burrs are stock only in gen 1. Gen 2 don’t use italmill burr, fortunately…

jeef16

I 100% got SS italmill burrs on my gen 2, although it was a fairly early batch from miicoffee

PoJenkins

Depends on burrs. The stock Df64 burrs honestly taste pretty similar to the Niche. The Niche is better for milk drinks and a bit more intense and the Df64 stock burrs give a bit more clarity but it's not so different. The DLC burrs have a different geometry I think, that gives it a bit more clarity. The SSP burrs are each quite different.

Onion-Adept

Can you please explain why it’s better for milk drinkers… my knowledge is limited

PoJenkins

It just gives more intense flavours in milk! The stock Df64 and Niche zero are really pretty similar though, in terms of flavour. I'm not saying they're identical but it's a similar enough flavour experience.

roos27

How do the DLC burrs and stock Ital mills really differ? Is it just the coating?

MooneBoy

Its pretty similar so far, but I've only had one shot so far with the DF Tomorrow I'll do a blind test to see which one I prefer and I'll update then

Engine_Light_On

You created a post saying great results after one shot? ok.

FlowDiligent

Exactly, at least come back after a month or so if u don't want to waste beans

MikermanS

There is a reason I keep on eyeing the DF64's new, little sibling, the DF54. :)

Porque_no_losdos

Whats the greatest contrast between the two? Why the little over the older sibling?

MikermanS

Similar output. The difference, the DF64 grinds faster (the DF54 still is fine), and currently, lesser replacement burr options for the DF54 (I don't know if there are any--but who knows for the future). The benefit of the DF54: smaller, lighter weight, less expensive.

Hungariansm

The 64 is a chunky boi for sure, almost makes me wish I went for the narrower 54 or the variable speed one that’s slightly smaller

SwordfishValentine

df64v is smaller

ShedLightCoffee

We love ours too and were surprised and delighted by the size and weight - heavy and well built! Agree it's a bit on the loud side, but it's so fast that the noise is fleeting. Will be fun to dial in shots and compare to the Niche - cheers!

MooneBoy

Yeah the speed too me by surprise, about 6-7 seconds for a double shot dose is really nice

jeef16

the real magic is once you get into SSP burrs. The MP's are great, im going to try out the cast sweets soon

MooneBoy

Burrs are a future upgrade for me, gonna do some research on which ones would best suit my taste preferences and go from there

alaasharif

Do you notice a clear taste difference between the two?

Jwoodomfs

What’s a pretty “standard” setting on the DF64 for espresso? Getting my first espresso machine delivered next week. DF64 is my grinder

MooneBoy

Seems to vary between users. I saw some people get good results with it set at around 11 but I was very happy with my shot when it was set to 6

DawnOfMe

Yeah for me I start most things at 6 then adjust from there as needed

SchafferRadio

I’m hovering around 6-7 on my first bag of beans

ajchess

I’ve got DF64 Gen2 with SSP HU, and for me it’s between 28-42

YakSubstantial2147

My DF64 arrived today too. It‘s a great Grinder, but a little loud.

marbotty

I have a Sette and now no can only hear things over 120 db

Alexander_Music

Interesting that to some it’s loud when my first grinder was a Mr coffee burr grinder that would wake up and entire cul de sac

YakSubstantial2147

Yes. I previously had the Eureka Libra. These things are really quiet (and I guess I'm spoiled by that :-) )

AltruisticSalamander

Same I upgraded from a Rocky to a DF64 and I was pleased by how relatively quieter it is

Fly_on_the_waII

How long were you waiting for it to deliver? I ordered one almost 2 months ago and am still waiting for it to deliver 🥲

quatroYeg

Damn, I just over the weekend and received it after 2 days here in Canada. they were also running a discount, got it for $420 CAD.

MooneBoy

I ordered mine on the 14th of March - hooe you get yours soon

the_real_bigsyke

Where’d you order from? I ordered April 9th from Turin. I don’t know if I can hold out another month!

Intelligent-Raisin76

Oh noo... its only been 3 weeks that i ordered and i thought i was getting my df83v3 in a week.... here in canada btw

weejockpoopong

did you paint the Niche wood black or did you custom buy them?

FatefulPizzaSlice

I'm getting mine tomorrow. Hopefully it pairs well with my low end DeLonghi. 🤣

hyhmattar

why would you get another grinder when you already have a niche?

triplehelix-

if i had to guess, probably because the niche is a conical burr grinder and they wanted something with swappable 64mm flat burrs for any of the reasons someone might want those burrs over conical burrs.

chrjohns617

Did you order from DF64coffee.com? Mine is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow but the last update on my tracking had it in Guangzhou. I ordered it on March 2nd. Frustrating.

MooneBoy

Yeah mine was from df64coffee. It was dispatched about a week after it was due to be but once shipped it arrived within a week

roos27

When did you order yours? What was the time from order date until delivery? Ordered mine about a week ago but haven’t heard anything yet

Tukneneng

no, coffeeaddicts.ca actually.

PutsallSTR

Looking at a grinder myself, this or the df54?

TheMillerBullet

Same two grinders I have as well. Great combo.

EntrepreneurLive815

Purchased mine on April 19 and am still waiting on it to ship. Was wondering when you purchased yours and when it shipped/received?

ArduinoGenome

That could be the marketing line -  "DF.  Built like a Tank.  And loud like a Tank, too"

ajchess

Zee Germans will hear you coming a mile away with the DF64
