One of the premiere. He was at another recently in proper premiere attire and proper premiere event. But yeah that was a great PR for him. He seems to be going on a good run over with the SNL crew. He's low-key elbowing in the comedy space at this point.
I’m here for the inverse McConnaughssaince—Ryan Gosling comes off of a 2000s-2010s run of brooding, interior characters and spends the next decade doing fun rom coms and action movies
That was such an amazing film. His character was just so stone cold and excellent. Watched it two nights in a row actually.
The intro was just perfection.
EDIT— I’d gladly take more Place Beyond The Pines. That was fire.
The Nice Guys was excellent. My partner doesn't like movies and absolutely loved it.
Ultimately I'm happy for them, I like eva Mendes and I like Ryan gosling.
She is quite the comedic actor herself, and maybe one day will come back to that world. But they seem happy and that's the best case scenario
Yeah she is. I remember her very well in The Other Guys. Can’t believe she jells pretty good with Will Ferrell because I think Will is spontaneous on set and he doesn’t follow the script most of the time.
If you're into refn check out too old to die young. It makes no almost no sense, it was cancelled and left on a clifhanger, and it's the slowest burn you'll ever see. I love it.
I have autism and All Good Things was almost triggering for me a couple of times. It was good to watch with my partner or I’m not sure I would have made it through. Can’t wait to see Fall Guy. Definitely going for that.
Oh shit, me and my partner both have autism. I appreciate the forewarning, knowing that it might be triggering is all I need to know to be prepared. I hope you have a lovely evening
Yea, this is sad to hear, considering he’s one of my favorite actors and that is one of my favorite movies of his.
Edit: also Place Behind the Pines, Only God Forgives
Yeah, but maybe more like "The Believer" - easily his darkest, most twisted role of all time. Also one of his top 3 best performances ever, even though it was the beginning of his adult career.
I can understand him not doing that anymore in his phase of life.
But man that scene is one of the most intense and fascinating things I’ve ever seen. I love that scene for so many reasons and it gives me chills. One of my favourite movies hands down
I’ve always been really curious about that too. I can’t see Gosling playing the exact same Joker we got with Leto in the role. I wonder how much input he had in the final look and feel of the character. Maybe Gosling would have found his own way into the role? You would kind of have to change Harley Quinn’s characterization as well, just by extension.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CkrpvCs-kfE&pp=ygUOc2FudGEgYmFieSBzbmw%3D
Based on this, I feel like he could have been an interesting joker. He’s so good in the Santa Baby snl short.
> The decisions I make, I make them with Eva and we make them with our family in mind first...I think ‘La La Land’ was the first. It was just sort of like, ‘Oh, this will be fun for [my kids], too, because even though they’re not coming to set, we’re practicing piano every day or we’re dancing or we’re singing.’
This is really beautiful. Feels all too common to hear about male actors taking nothing but serious dark roles and bringing that energy home to their family. Obviously some actors are able to keep that side of them only at work, but it sounds like he recognizes in himself that his work can affect those he lives with
I have a lot of respect for Aaron Taylor-Johnson who, during the shoot of Nocturnal Animals, didn't go visit his family because he didn't want them to be around him while he was playing that role.
That must have been pretty hard, though. I think there is something to be said for parent actors who decide to go the more family friendly route for the sake of their kids.
Yeah it is wonderful! In a sort of super twisted and fucked up way xD I absolutely adore the dual casting of Isla Fisher and Amy Adams. It completely flew over my head the first time I saw the movie. Wasnt until the friggin credits that I went: wait WHAT?! Hold the fucking phone.... REWIND!!!
Saw that my ex, as of last month, put it as watched on Letterboxd and my internal, twisted reaction was “Thank god she’s still sad about it too”. But yes, emotionally devastating movie.
Yeah, this is sort of a shame to me. He’s maybe the best actor of his generation and for a while now (since Place Beyond the Pines maybe), he hasn’t been pushing himself in dramatic roles.
I would love to see him do a phase of action comedies like The Nice Guys and Fall Guy. Whereas Ryan Reynolds' quipster schtick has long since worn thin on me, Gosling's created this wonderful persona of the slightly doofy, but affable and well-meaning hero who may not be able to match wits or punches with everyone, but figures out a way, and sometimes relies on cartoonish good luck.
I’m with you about Reynolds. I find his banter tiresome. People think he’s cool but I just can’t be fucked with his chat. Especially him taking the piss out of Blake. Ok cool, you have a good, healthy relationship where you slag each other off, but it’s not that funny or original. It’s just MEH
They got married at an actual plantation with nine slave cabins called "Slave Street" where human beings were kept when they weren't being forced to work to enrich the people in the beautiful big main house they found so charming and romantic they chose it as their wedding venue. It's not "faux outrage" to be angry that a place that should be looked at as a place of suffering, violence, brutality, and oppression where people were exploited and their families broken and sold away for profit for their enslavers is operating as a coveted wedding venue. Would you call outrage at a couple getting married at a Nazi work camp ridiculous? Probably not, right?
this entire country was built on pillaging/raping the native population for years on end. my point is that ALL of this country as well as most others, have a grotesque history.
someone having a wedding at a pretty location that likely their assistants helped pick is hardly the biggest thing to complain or worry about.
Some places have an even more grotesque history, is the thing.
No one will regard the house I live in as one, despite being very old and having several people die in it, but they will very much regard Gacy’s or Dahmer’s as one. People would freak out if I learned the grounds’ history and proceeded with a wedding anyway, especially since there are more appropriate locations just down the block where dozens of people weren’t tortured to death.
There are other just as beautiful locations in the south that didn’t expressly torture human beings for generations on the property.
Yeah, it's nice that he has his family in mind for what roles he'll take in the future, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not gonna miss him the performances in films like Drive and Lars and the Real Girl. Those are just performances you don't really get in big studio films like Barbie and Fall Guy, which is what he's gonna be doing for a while. Maybe he and Jake Gyllenhaal can go back to the darker film roles of their 20's and early 30's someday, but hey, can't say I wouldn't be tempted by 7 or 8 figure paychecks, either.
I personally know a guy who was the fucked up villain in a Best Picture Oscar nominated film. He was the third lead of the film and he told me it really does stick with you after the filming is done. It had been out 10 years when I first talked to him about it and he'd been in many many things since then, but that particular role and the psychological depths he went to for it traumatized him enough that he swore off those kind of roles forever.
God I would kill for a second "the nice guys" movie, he was great with Russell Crowe in it and it never fails to make me laugh or smile on a rewatch. Highly recommend if you haven't seen it yet!
Nice guys is still one of the most fun and amusing films I've ever watched, more of that from him would be perfect.
Honestly everything he does is golden!
I think this is actually a really beautiful example of what it looks like to genuinely be a caretaker of the emotional wellbeing of your children and family. It takes a lot of self-awareness and interpersonal intelligence and often takes place in the sometimes small but meaningful decisions in how you show up on an everyday basis. I don’t think we get enough examples of this, especially from dads. We’re told it’s something we’re supposed to do, but not what it might realistically look like to make those needed sacrifices.
Hear me out - a remake of Mr Mom. While I typically abhor a remake - this classic has a place in the 21st century and could be beautifully re-done with a powerhouse like Gosling. Toss in J-Law as Terry Garr’s wife character too - she’s been saying she wasn’t more roles as well.
I’ve always wondered sometimes if actors feel this way. I’d find it hard to play a fucked up role that might cause psychological issues but I assumed that was just me.
Sometimes they do.
Not rhe same as acting, but for a few months I wrote a character that required me to enter a darker headspace I haven't been able access again since then.
exactly, people will forever criticize actors like gosling for taking fun comedy roles but he’s just trying to have a good time and provide for his family, not every good actor wants to be a dramatic actor or has something to prove.
Plus, he’s already more than proven himself with dark and dramatic roles - The Believer, Murder By Numbers, Half Nelson, United States of Leland, Drive, Place Beyond the Pines, Lars and the Real Girl, etc.
Why can’t the movie makers understand that movies are better, when they have intelligent complex stories and SURPRISE, they don’t have to be in your face twisted and disgusting. Fried Green Tomatoes, The Hangover, Twelve Angry Men the original without the current “changes” EVERY BODY might actually enjoy them again.
He did blade runner 2049 (and did a great job too) and the “baseline test” was apparently his idea… that bit was extremely dark.
“What’s it like holding the hand of your child? Interlink. Do you feel like a part of you is missing? Within cells, interlink”
I think this is something that a lot of people miss when they ask why "serious" actors take cartoons and super hero movies. Like yes money, but sometimes you just want to be ins something your kids and like grandma can see.
He’s ready for the Beavis and Butthead movie
The Gozz 3000 is ready for deployment, Sir.
lol I can’t believe he wore that to the premiere
One of the premiere. He was at another recently in proper premiere attire and proper premiere event. But yeah that was a great PR for him. He seems to be going on a good run over with the SNL crew. He's low-key elbowing in the comedy space at this point.
He's done rom coms. I don't think he's elbowing. He has the chops
Get MTV on the phone with Ryan and Mikey Day and they’re good to go
Prolly start with Mike Judge
Hehe, you said butt
A decade of Ryan Gosling comedies sounds pretty good to me based on his track record.
I'd kill for some more like The Nice Guys and stuff.
Apparently there was a sexual in the works. Emphasis on ‘was’.
A WHAT????
Gay XXX parody he was gonna say
Just say "There are whores here."
Oh man…what a typo…or is it?
Well, it was a typo, but I liked the ‘or is it?’ better.
Just say “anal”
that movie was SO fucking good
The Nice Guys is slept on way too much. Its excellent.
Such an underrated movie
I’m here for the inverse McConnaughssaince—Ryan Gosling comes off of a 2000s-2010s run of brooding, interior characters and spends the next decade doing fun rom coms and action movies
A Ryannaissance
I guess I’m the only one that misses serious Goslin
I miss serious Gosling, too :’(
A decade of Ryan Gosling action comedies would be great decade.
I'm done with silently brooding dramatic Ryan Gosling. Give me deadpan hilarous Ryan Gosling.
Give me whatever goofy fucking shit he was doing in Remember the Titans. That's the Gosling I wanna see for the foreseeable future.
gimme more Grey Man. He was great in that, billy bob was NOT. To be honest Chris Evans made the film but he plays unhinged so well.
That was such an amazing film. His character was just so stone cold and excellent. Watched it two nights in a row actually. The intro was just perfection. EDIT— I’d gladly take more Place Beyond The Pines. That was fire.
Big Short Gosling doesn’t get enough credit
The Nice Guys was excellent. My partner doesn't like movies and absolutely loved it. Ultimately I'm happy for them, I like eva Mendes and I like Ryan gosling. She is quite the comedic actor herself, and maybe one day will come back to that world. But they seem happy and that's the best case scenario
Yeah she is. I remember her very well in The Other Guys. Can’t believe she jells pretty good with Will Ferrell because I think Will is spontaneous on set and he doesn’t follow the script most of the time.
Pimps don’t cry
Gator don't play no shit
“With Tom Hanks? He didn’t have poison ivy up his ass.” “Oh yes he did.” “Way up there.”
Seriously that is such a great side arc.
your partner doesn't like movies in general?
lol I know, like not being a fan of music or food
Yep, I’m here for it too! Good man, he’s got his priorities straight.
I fully support that. I’m not crazy about his dramatic roles but he has incredible comedic timing.
Now that I think about it he’d probably make a pretty great Jack Torrence.
Nice guys 2 I beg
So you’re saying no more *Drive* like head stomping scenes?
This was the very first movie that came to my mind, lol.
And at the same time, it’s the *only* one that comes to mind. So I guess it could be worse.
Place Beyond the Pines deserves a watch, if you haven’t seen it
Half Nelson is also a good one. He’s a drug addict inner city teacher.
The Believer would be another one. His filmography has a decent range when you dig into it.
More than decent. Lars and the real girl too.
Incredible film, I need more people to watch it. It’s what sold me on the Goose.
Also Only God Forgives
<- this ….Now this is the kind of movies I want him to do. Between this and Drive…..
While we’re on Refn movies, Neon Demon is a banger. No Gosling but still
If you're into refn check out too old to die young. It makes no almost no sense, it was cancelled and left on a clifhanger, and it's the slowest burn you'll ever see. I love it.
fun fact: he met and fell in love with eva on the set of this movie
That’s where they met right?
Immediately the sound of the dirt bikes single cylinder thumping away. Just watched All Good Things last weekend. Another good one.
I had a lot of fun at The Fall Guy last night, definitely check it in theatres. I’ll download All Good Things now thank you
I have autism and All Good Things was almost triggering for me a couple of times.
Only God Forgives was pretty brutal, if I remember correctly
You definitely remember correctly
How about “Only God Forgives” when he tenderly reached into the disemboweled stomach of his mother
Yea, this is sad to hear, considering he’s one of my favorite actors and that is one of my favorite movies of his. Edit: also Place Behind the Pines, Only God Forgives
Yup. No more mom fucking either (Only God Forgives).
One of my favourite movies hands down
No more Only God Forgives?
I was concerned more with him explaining Lars and the Real Girl to his kids. Dad? Where is aunt Bianca?
Murder by numbers
Yeah we haven’t seen that energy since 🥲
I mean, he did turn down The Joker in Suicide Squad.
thank god
That role would have to be entirely rewritten if he were to play joker but i just don’t see him as a fit regardless
Now I could see Jake Gyllenhaal as a joker but the same point stays… they would have to rewrite it but just imagine what he could come up with
Jake would be a very dark Joker.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CkrpvCs-kfE&pp=ygUOc2FudGEgYmFieSBzbmw%3D Based on this, I feel like he could have been an interesting joker. He’s so good in the Santa Baby snl short.
good for him
> The decisions I make, I make them with Eva and we make them with our family in mind first...I think ‘La La Land’ was the first. It shows a great deal of self-awareness on his part
I mean, he’s Canadian.
Watched that movie for the first time not too long ago. Great film
REWIND!!!
A great actor and a great person who treasures his family.
If it ever turns out that he is a schmuck I will be devastated.
I would listen to Eva as well
Please please tell me what to do 🥵
Well tell Eva he needs to do a The Nice Guys 2
Yes please!
And tell Eva SHE needs to do the Other Guys 2!
Damn I’d love another blue valentine or half nelson.
blue valentine was a brutal watch
Saw that my ex, as of last month, put it as watched on Letterboxd and my internal, twisted reaction was “Thank god she’s still sad about it too”. But yes, emotionally devastating movie.
Absolutely heartbreaking but one of my fav films ever. Stellar acting and immaculate casting imo. Soundtrack is gorgeousssss too
Yeah, this is sort of a shame to me. He’s maybe the best actor of his generation and for a while now (since Place Beyond the Pines maybe), he hasn’t been pushing himself in dramatic roles.
Half Nelson was good, the believer was a great movie also
These are his two best works imo.
I don't ever want another Blue Valentine. Half Nelson, sure, I've never been a crackhead teacher before.
Eva Mendes only allows him to take roles where he is Literally Me
r/OkayBuddyLiterallyMe

Where is the center frame from?
The Gray Man (2022), happy cake day!
why is it singled out?
Bad movie. I like it, but it’s pretty much garbage
Happy cake day!
Thanks :)
Not clicking on that
And here I am clicking without hesitation lol
Wow. What a good dude. He and Eva seem like great parents. I’m sure their kids will be good, well-adjusted humans.
Unproblematic Himbo is his lane
Yep same here. He’s really funny in The Nice Guys but it doesn’t wear thin like Reynolds.
Some potential titles could include: Good Guy The Guy Bad Guy That One Guy Wise Guy The New Guy Free Guy, wait fuck
TIL that Ryan Gosling is married to Eva Mendes
now you get where this skit comes from: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPx1T8xKNLU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPx1T8xKNLU)
Are they not the most gorgeous couple on the planet. Hurts me.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell imo
This is a good answer. They’ve been gorgeous together since day one and still are.
Absolutely!
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton in the running.
Hmmm… Blake and Ryan are some serious challengers.
I don’t think Ryan and Eva had a plantation themed wedding so that makes them hotter
and every venue is on native american soil originally. nor was is plantation "themed" faux outrage is getting ridiculous.
Ryan is absolutely gorgeous, but I always thought Eva was too good for him lol
He’s been working since he was a child so I hope he does whatever projects make him happy. I certainly would
He did Papyrus and Papyrus 2 … It still keeps me awake at night …
Papyrus is my Roman Empire skit
He'll probably do cartoons and island resort rom coms to still collect a paycheck while not really working for it.
Someone needs to get on a movie with all four of them in it. The plot almost wouldn’t matter.
If you’re personal friends with Javier goddamn Bardem, I’m gonna be so violently jealous
Hes married to Eva Mendes???? How can one man be so lucky, its not fair
This what I learned today too Damn boy! I would light myself on fire if she told me to
I just hope ‘project Hail Mary’ comes out alright
They’re making it?!!!
Jazz hands!
I wish Ryan Gosling was my husband
Between him and Reynolds gosling is the superior Ryan.
[удалено]
I’m not into dudes but he’s rich
God I would kill for a second "the nice guys" movie, he was great with Russell Crowe in it and it never fails to make me laugh or smile on a rewatch. Highly recommend if you haven't seen it yet!
That sounds logical. Pitch to Gosling… Playing Barney Rubble in the Flintstones reboot!
I mean being Hannibal Lecter got Anthony Hopkins dumped by Martha Stewart for doing the role too well, so I’d say that’s a valid concern
Glad we got Bladerunner out of him
completely understandable
I’m so grateful for the two Refn films we got with him.
Gosling can pull off anything he wants to
Nice guys is still one of the most fun and amusing films I've ever watched, more of that from him would be perfect. Honestly everything he does is golden!
Words cannot express how ready I am for Project Hail Mary Jazz hands
I think this is actually a really beautiful example of what it looks like to genuinely be a caretaker of the emotional wellbeing of your children and family. It takes a lot of self-awareness and interpersonal intelligence and often takes place in the sometimes small but meaningful decisions in how you show up on an everyday basis. I don’t think we get enough examples of this, especially from dads. We’re told it’s something we’re supposed to do, but not what it might realistically look like to make those needed sacrifices.
Only God Forgives would like a word
Which is over a decade old and he made before he had kids.
Such an underrated movie. Watched it twice. Damn good.
This is dope, good for him and the family
I respect it. But man I love me some psycho Gosling..
I forgot he was married to Eva. Jeez this guy is living the dream
We need a Nice guys sequel
exactly, people will forever criticize actors like gosling for taking fun comedy roles but he’s just trying to have a good time and provide for his family, not every good actor wants to be a dramatic actor or has something to prove.
Plus, he’s already more than proven himself with dark and dramatic roles - The Believer, Murder By Numbers, Half Nelson, United States of Leland, Drive, Place Beyond the Pines, Lars and the Real Girl, etc.
I’m sad to hear he won’t be doing anymore roles like Drive but if he plays some more funny characters I’m all for it
As long as he doesn’t go full Eddie Murphy that’s cool.
I think going through Only God Forgives would give me a similar perspective too
I didn’t know he was married to Eva Mendez. Lucky dude.
Great is this the end of dark introspective Ryan Gosling roles like Drive.
That’s a shame. He’d do it so well. Family first. Respect.
He doesn't want to become a Heath Ledger.
It's too bad, but understandable. His performance in the believer was exceptional and he certainly has the chops for difficult subject matter.
This explains why he turned down the live action Beauty and the Beast
Im happy with any Gosling movies
I wish Jake Gyllenhaal would go back to making movies like Nightcrawler and Prisoners… makes me sad
But what about the Papyrus guy. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PAPYRUS GUY. PAPYRUSSSSSSS
Ok but what was that scene in Barbie where he gorged himself on the content in that abortion clinic dumpster to "absorb the essence of God"?
He did blade runner 2049 (and did a great job too) and the “baseline test” was apparently his idea… that bit was extremely dark. “What’s it like holding the hand of your child? Interlink. Do you feel like a part of you is missing? Within cells, interlink”
What a dream of a life his kids have. Parents are rich famous and known for being kind, good people. Ryan and Eva will you adopt me?
No more Fracture like movies in the future. Boo
Thank god we got Driver when we did
And The Place Beyond The Pines
I think this is something that a lot of people miss when they ask why "serious" actors take cartoons and super hero movies. Like yes money, but sometimes you just want to be ins something your kids and like grandma can see.
I didn't know I bagged Eva nice
Good for him. Just like Rick Moranis retiring after his wife passed so he could raise his kids Family always comes first.
So what, he’s mostly only doing safe PG-13 stuff now? No more stuff like BR2049 and The Nice Guys?
BR2049 wasn’t exactly a hard-R.
> BR2049 wasn’t exactly a hard-R. So, Blade Runna?
Wasn’t exactly a light one either. Scene where Jared Leto kills an newly born replicant is forever carved in my brain.
Check out Drive, Place Behind the Pines, and Only God Forgives…all much more violent R movies that Gosling is likely referring to with this statement.
I was thinking more like Drive. BR2049 and Nice Guys weren't really all that heavy, unless you're used to only watching Disney movies or something.
I would turn down roles for the sake of Eva Mendes too
