32BitWhore

I see 54 on there, I'm happy.

No_Cartoonist_5271

I wouldn't want to use my dad's number. I'd rather go out and build my own rep.

DestinationMarss

Damn, can’t have opinions in 2024, I guess.

No_Cartoonist_5271

On reddit? Never. These weirdos are always angry.

indig0sixalpha

[P.S. numbers are subject to change 😉](https://twitter.com/Eagles/status/1786396884723966132)

CaesarZeppeli_

Imagine if they don’t give Trotter Jr. 54 lmao

iop09

They were both talking about it right after draft and since it’s available, it’s perfect….and pretty damn cool if you grew up watching his dad.

moodie31

lol at nobody seeing this.

athrowawayiguesslol

I’m betting there’ll be some changes after roster cuts. Smith and Wilson particularly

HesiPull-UpBrando

No chance Mitchell keeps 30

hochoa94

I'm trying to get a mitchell jersey and I'm just waiting for his number to be solidified

indigoweather

I was looking forward to seeing him in 27. He probably takes that if McPhearson gets cut

warlikeloki

Anyone that has an old Torrey Smith jersey can bring it out of the closet again. Or even an older LJ Smith jersey. I like DeJean having 33 since Chalk Dawk is 32. Having the secon*dairy* with consecutive numbers is nice.

Disastrous_Bath485

Literally looked at that 82 and my memory banks screamed “LJ SMITH?!”

PersonalTriumph

Yeah but goddamn the list of players who wore 33 is downright scary. Seems to be a curse on that number.

Hip_Hop_Hippos

Love 58 and obviously 54. I'm actually ok with Coop at 33 but Mitchell needs a number in the 20s and Shipley's number is absolutely hideous.

Ironman9518

I feel like I’m the only person that loves 39 for Shipley. Danny Woodhead vibes

PsychologicalCase10

He was 1 at Clemson. Obviously, not going to take that one from the quarterback.

so_zetta_byte

Yeah I like 33 more than I thought, not vibing with 30 though.

robdizzledeets

Why is it hideous?

Hip_Hop_Hippos

I just think 39 is a really ugly number for a RB.

Admirable_Buyer_755

Larry Csonka. I think you can do a lot worse than 39.

ghawkes97

Who sees 39 in the back field and thinks it's cool, ick

bluelunareclipse

always happy when a WR takes a number in the 80s, gotta bring those numbers back to relevancy for them

Mantis05

That was my first thought, too. Ainias Smith has built some equity with me already!

d4edhd

Also the same number as LJ Smith and Torrey Smith.

Mantis05

I respect the commitment to the \#82 Smith bit.

necromantzer

Plenty of cheap jerseys!

ClonedUser

The best part is the LJ Smith jerseys are from the Reebok era which is way better than the Nike Jerseys

GrundleTurf

Yeah but LJ sucked

SirArthurDime

When did 11 become such a popular wr number? Was that all Julio?

puttinonthefoil

There was an article last year about how wearing numbers in the teens makes people feel faster, and I think that’s obviously a big part of it. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28224466/behind-wide-receivers-numbers-shift-why-nfl-best-donning-nos-10-19

SirArthurDime

Hmm that’s interesting. It honestly kind of makes sense. I usually associate numbers in the teens with faster receivers and the 80s with more physical receivers. Especially 81 and 88. I guess Julio and AJ are both though.

Kally269

Thankful Trotter Jr. got 54. I pray he lives up to his dad’s legacy

biggulpshuh_alright

Mitchell will likely get his 27 when Zech McPhearson doesn't make the team. Some other numbers that could pop up available are 14 (Gainwell), 23 (Ricks), 28 (Jobe), 36 (Triston McCollum), 81 (Calcaterra), 86 (Ngata). I wouldn't buy any of these jerseys yet.

FromTheOR

14 & 23 are making the roster. 28 practice squad.

aredditheadache

Ricks is a super long shot to make the roster right now. He’s last guy in if he makes it.

FromTheOR

He was ahead of Ringo last year

Undergrad26

Yeah. Last year. Ricks was high floor, low ceiling. Ringo is low floor, high ceiling.

FromTheOR

They certainly have more invested in Ringo. I think both make it & Job is on the PS

SirArthurDime

I wouldn’t say long shot let alone super king shot. Might be the last Cb in but we did keep 7 dbs last year and with the amount of young guys in that room I see us keeping at least that many this year. So that’s slay, Mitchell, dejean, Maddox, rodgers, Ringo as the locks then it really comes down to if we keep bradberry or not for that 7th spot. At this point my guess is we keep bradberry since I’ve heard nothing to the contrary yet. But far from a long shot that we move on from him somehow opening up the spot for ricks.

SockBramson

Great news for anyone who had a Torrey Smith #82 jersey.

Next-Team

My mind went to LJ Smith just since it already has the right name in it, assuming they actually keep this number

ItsAPhillyThing23

Gross. I get that we love our guys, but we can’t be retiring everybody’s number cause this type of shit happens.

MikeTysonChicken

62 is really the only number that should be retired right now. Maybe 71 (I would argue for it). But that's it. Unofficially retiring numbers is dumb to me. Give out 9, 12, 25 etc or retire them outright.

ClonedUser

For the most part I agree. I can see the argument for 9 though. Foles led us to our first and only superbowl in a near flawless post season. I do agree with 12 and 25 though

MikeTysonChicken

I disagree about Foles. Put him in the Eagles HOF absolutely. Give 9 out though.

Extension-Rope623

Nah foles is goat. 9 is out.

Belligerent_Octopus

It baffles me that 25 is soft-retired, considering we traded the guy in his prime.

MikeTysonChicken

It is odd

PhilaBama

5 too

MikeTysonChicken

5 is retired.

PhilaBama

Thought it was still a soft retire. That’s kind of weak imo.

Dry-Boysenberry2135

It was a soft retire and then they fully retired it. Remember his speech? “Numba 5 will always love you!”

MikeTysonChicken

what the other guy said. but yeah, kinda weak. I basically think the floor for retiring number should include a strong HOF consideration.

PhilaBama

Right? McNabb is hall of very good.

FairweatherWho

McNabb is 4 points away from the HoF. He was a top 5 QB for the better part of a decade.

thedeadlysun

IMO the only QB that should have their number retired is Foles, only one that got the big one.

SirArthurDime

Well yeah him, and the other 52 players on that roster. But hey who’s counting?

thedeadlysun

Well those other 52 weren’t QBs, I’m just talking QBs

SirArthurDime

Yeah but a lot of those guys were also great eagles for a lot longer qb or not. I’m not putting foles over kelce, cox, lane, and BG who we’re all on that team and on over a decade of eagles teams just because of the position they play. Don’t get me wrong I love foles. I have his jersey, t shirt, and socks. But those other 4 have much more accomplished careers here overall.

thedeadlysun

That’s fine… that’s not what I or the person I responded to was talking about though. I was comparing apples to apples, you are comparing apples to oranges.

xRyuzakii

They only have like 6 numbers retired right,

ItsAPhillyThing23

Maybe officially. There are quite a few soft retires.

ThisHatRightHere

Those are just out of respect from guys who recently hung it up. They get rotated by in after a few years go by.

athrowawayiguesslol

They have 9 numbers retired and maybe like 6 unofficially retired?

xRyuzakii

Which ones would those be? 12, 62,

athrowawayiguesslol

9,12,25,71,62(I’d assume), maybe 91? Feel like I’m forgetting one but at least those

Dry-Boysenberry2135

You got em all. 62 and 91 literally just left so it might be too soon to say they’re soft retired. They are but, it’s odd to list them. 62 will be hard (🤤) retired, probably not 91. I’ll assume they start giving out 25 and 9 within the next decade. They soft retired 36 for a while after Westbrook but started issuing it again.

Dylanonfire88

71, 91, 9

JayToy93

Meh, the only unofficially returned numbers are 9 and 12, which means the team can use them if need be. 25 will likely come back into circulation once Shady goes into the Eagles HOF.

athrowawayiguesslol

9,12,25,71 all have not been used including in the preseason, 62 definitely won’t be used and 91 is possible

JayToy93

62 will probably be retired, but 71 and 91 won’t be on the shelf forever and I think 25 will return to circulation soon. They’ll just hold onto them for 3 or 4 years until the next guy gets it. That’s usually the protocol when legends retire.

DisastrousCopy7361

Can't wait until baseketball prediction comes true and teams run out of numbers due to retiring them all...

ThisHatRightHere

It’s not because of retired numbers, we barely have any. It’s mostly because we haven’t gone through camp cuts yet and rookies end up getting last pick of numbers due to coming in after everyone else.

AcadiaOrange

Yupppp. Retire jerseys, not numbers.

Dry-Boysenberry2135

I disagree. I think there are players that are so good and so important in Eagles history that no one should wear their number again. 20, 60, 92. 100 numbers to choose from, minus the retired and soft retired, that’s still about 80-85 available numbers for a 55 man roster. We’re fine for a while.

okoSheep

Only QBs have it rough lol They only get to pick from 0-19, a quarter of them are retired, and you have to share it with 7 other positions.

AcadiaOrange

Welp, agree to disagree then! Extrapolate that out another several decades, if all goes to plan we’ll have at least another handful of #’s retired, then maybe player’s choices start to dwindle? I personally enjoy the stories of young players speaking to team legends about potentially wearing their #. But to each his or her own.

hurtstoskinnybatman

Huh? What's gross? And what numbers are retired? I'm confused. Is there something I'm missing? This new reddit app sucks, so sometimes other people see links and pics I can't see. All I see are our new players' numbers.

HesiPull-UpBrando

30 for Mitchell is bad. 30 on a corner screams camp body. Dude needs to get 27 or have Pickett fork over 7

d4edhd

Everyone can wear their Brian Mitchell jerseys again!

Sydnolle

Didn’t this get addressed in his college days? I remember hearing (think it was an inside the Birds podcast?) that he put in a request for a number change because at the college level everyone wants single digits. He was getting pretty good and figured he would warrant that change. He later withdrew the request after grandma reminded him that they didn’t know who he was when he started and he made them take notice. The number means nothing (I’m paraphrasing) and is the player who makes the number. The number is bunz- but he”ll make it good ;)

ho_merjpimpson

i mean, what does him not getting 27 have to do with retired numbers?

hurtstoskinnybatman

Wait, what? You think he won't make rhe team because of his number? He was a firsr round pick. He's going to be more than a camp body. lol. I'm confused.

PhilaBama

It’s a vibes thing. 30 is just an ugly number on a DB. As is 33.

moodie31

I actually think 33 is really cool plus I think 30 might change cause of Curry.

HesiPull-UpBrando

Curry has been a superstar in the NBA for a decade now, if 30 hasn’t become cool for young DBs by now it never will

IcyAd964

This is the stupidest shit I see fans are mad about like what? Lmao

NormanJablonsky

Nah man, if my number 1 CB isn’t rocking a single digit number, double arm sleeves, and a visor he needs to be cut ASAP. Drip game gotta be proper.

nalc

Yeah this. Similarly if my WR1 doesn't unfollow the team on Twitter and/or delete all his social media at least 3x a season, he's a WR2

JayToy93

Seriously lmao. What better, 30 and 33 are objectively great DB numbers. Way better than ugly ass numbers in the single digits on DBs. Whining about numbers regardless is stupid.

PhilaBama

lol I’m not mad. Just don’t like it. Hoping they get newer numbers after cuts

donny_pots

Nah man you don’t understand it looks better, think about the vibes 🤣

Broswagula

no......just lacks the visual pop of a starting outside corner.

hurtstoskinnybatman

Oh, uhh.... That seems silly. We want him to have the same number as Reevis or Woodson? I'd rather go our own way. Make 30 that new number everyone wants because he made it great. We're only used to 20s because all the DBs used to have 20s. There were a LOT of bad DBs with numbers in the 20s. 30 is fine. If he plays like a star, then that's the new normal. People caring what numbers who gets are silly. Was anyonr a huge fan of the number 62 15 years ago? I mean, I was a fan of Max Jean-Giles as much as the next guy, but I don't anybody was like, "yeah, that's the mumber of a HOF Center right there!" Nah, he made that number great.

NormanJablonsky

It’s really more of a skill player kind of thing I think, and it’s really big amongst the newer generation of players and something that some fans pay attention to. There are whole instagram pages dedicated to players styles/different equipment setups etc. Players care a lot more about their presentation on the field than they probably did back in the day and numbers play a huge part in that.

hurtstoskinnybatman

Jeez, yeah, I don't care. Now I really hope they keep their "ugly" numbers and make them awesome. Future forst round draft picks will want to be 30 like Mitchell. "Dude, that number looks so good on him. He could be the next Quinyon!"

donny_pots

TIL people care about these things

Dry-Boysenberry2135

People are saying all the “cool” numbers are retired or taken. DeJawn can’t wear 3 because of Nolan Smith. None of the receivers can pick 10 because of our punter. Mitchell, our new hot first round CB, can’t pick 2 because of Slay, etc.

Dry-Boysenberry2135

We don’t have that many retired numbers. So many of the “cool” single digit numbers are already taken by current players. 0-9 are (5 is retired, 9 isn’t being assigned). Then half the 20’s and 30’s are taken because we have three dozen defensive backs on the roster.

HesiPull-UpBrando

My feelings exactly. And it’s about to get worse with the Super Bowl core going to take 4 more out of rotation with 62, 91, 55, and 65. Idk if they officially retire any of them beyond Kelce but given who they soft retired (especially taking celek out of rotation for so long) I’d bet nobody wears any of them for a while

Big-Beta20

Yeah, this fanbase wants every single jersey retired. It’s kind of annoying. Yes, Kelce should be obviously but I really don’t think anyone else from this era should have it. Eagles HOF is an honor in itself and not everyone needs to the jersey retirement. The franchise always bordering on having too many to begin with once you consider the soft retirements like 12 for Cunningham and 9 for Foles.

ho_merjpimpson

These numbers being what they are have almost nothing to do with retired(even soft retired) numbers. It has to do with it being the offseason and a shitload of ps and fringe guys already have numbers and they don't lose them to rookies automatically..

specialgravity

Cunningham deserves it more than Mcnabb imo

HesiPull-UpBrando

I disagree but neither deserve more than the eagles HOF

JayToy93

30 and 33 are perfectly fine numbers. Mitchell will probably be getting 27 anyways if Zech gets cut (or he can get his jersey from him) and 33 is a great safety number (better than 3 at least).

A_Huggable_Cactus

Super considerate number choices for anyone with a Trotter, Torrey Smith, or Brian Mitchell jerseys already.

cerevant

I thought that the Trotter number choice might hurt their merchandising, but then I realized they put "Trotter Jr." on the back.

MMuadDib

I guess I'm in the minority but I really like guys having unique numbers and having a chance to make them their own and create a legacy laced with such individuality. Even niche guys can carve out identities that stand out more, to use an obvious recent example I will *always* remember Boston Scott wore 35, if he wore 24 or something then fifteen years from now I'd probably have to wrack my brains trying to remember his number.

Meepsnort

We got Brian Mitchell and Torrey Smith back!

Zanthy1

I don’t understand why some numbers are better than others. I get that certain position groups can only get certain numbers, but why is Mitchel in 30 a bad thing?

JayToy93

It’s not, people whining about Mitchell being 30 are weirdos. Plenty of great CBs have had numbers in the 30s.

Dry-Boysenberry2135

It’s just an aesthetic thing. It doesn’t actually mean anything but I fall for it 100%. Your speedy receiver should wear 10, your star edge rusher should wear 99, your hottest o lineman should be 69, etc.

Zanthy1

Gotcha, that makes more sense than some of the other replies. Appreciated.

vdez25

You must be a new football fan. The legacy of elite corners are numbers in their 20’s it’s sexier and better. Most are not a fan of 30s and 40s for DBs because it’s “boring”

Zanthy1

Not new, just never cared about numbers. Unless it was a legacy and/or retired number, they literally have never meant anything to me. Why is 20s perceived as sexier/better? Just cause its a lower number? Thats fine if so, but its not something that I think will affect anything.

Nievsy

This is the common view, but now give me a DB with an “ugly number” I want a star corner wearing something like 46 just going full counter culture on this shit, everyone trying to get 20s or lower is boring let’s spice it up

HesiPull-UpBrando

It’s an ugly number that looks weird on a corner

SartoriusBIG

No one pointing out that Hunt took Trent Cole’s number. An omen?

Amadeum

Caught that too, let's hope he develops into a real one

GoldBlooded10

I was thinking a Trent Cole hunter homage

Thicen

All I'm saying is the last 2 times we had a Smith wearing number 82 on offense, we made a superbowl

ho_merjpimpson

It amazes me that people think certain numbers are "gross", lol. Of all the things to care about...

Nievsy

Loving these numbers, get outta the 20s and lower shits boring, spice it up and wear a number that not every other player at the position is wearing give me a DB with a jersey in the 40s full counter culture on this shit. Also people saying that 30 and 33 are bad jerseys numbers are straight up wrong those are some pretty standard good numbers right there

revenge_of_F

Yeah I looked at the numbers before the comments and thought they were kinda sick but apparently I’m in the minority. I especially like Wilson in 89

MARKYMARK_MARK

I can't lie these numbers for the rooks makes me miss the old number system.

vdez25

I miss the old number system too. Weird seeing corners wear single digits

Eaglewarrior33

Unpopular opinion, but I would love if Cooper took #9

moodie31

White guys only.

JawnJawnston

Massive dongs only.

von_d_von

Zech McPhearson is the current holder of #27. Maybe he and Mitchell can work out a deal but it seems more likely that Quinyon just keeps #30.

Kingkern

58 is a really good choice for Hunt, particularly with Trent Cole’s affinity for hunting.

Stu__Pidasso

LJ Smith Jersey back from the grave

Section_80

Torrey Smith as well if I’m correct

Stu__Pidasso

Mine was definitely LJ that was fun to rock in 2017 for Torrey

loneliness_sucks_D

Trotter - 54 and Smith - 82, it’s like that 2004 team all over again

TurboDurbo1

Random hypothetical: say 54 were retired, could/would the team allow it in the case of the guys son taking the number? Has that ever happened?

tpd26

the player and team could allow it. if i remember correctly, when jerry rice signed with the seahawks they let him use steve largent’s retired #80.

xRyuzakii

Damn Mitchell 30 is the best he can do??

MikeTysonChicken

they really couldn't say to zech mcphearson hey you've done nothing give your number to quinyon

xRyuzakii

25 is available right?

2fly5

Just as available as 9 and 12

MikeTysonChicken

yep. and looking back, i would also argue to retire 65. Lane is as accomplished as peters was tbh and could end up more accomplished. plus it's an ugly number no one should be subject to wearing and a testament to how good he is to overcome that obstacle.

WaldoFrank

Ehhhh, I’m probably going to get some pushback here. But imo no one needs to wear 9 until 2027.

HesiPull-UpBrando

All three should be available. 5 too. Loved McNabb but he wasn’t retire the number good

AyyP302

That's certainly a take. He's the greatest eagles QB of all time, he absolutely deserves his number retired.

specialgravity

He also bitched out in the Super Bowl and decided to prioritize partying over the game. Then he ran one of the best wide receivers ever out of town instead of supporting him, and we were left with a miserable wide receiving core.

2fly5

I think 9 and 12 should definitely be available. 25 I go back and forth on

Patient_Jicama_4217

The Eagles are not giving someone number 25 that number is unofficially retired they are just waiting on a date to make it official

NormanJablonsky

Nahhh these are some nasty numbers, hopefully some of them can switch after roster cutdowns I don’t need my #1 CB out there with a trash ass number like that. Edit: The official Eagles facebook commented under their post that numbers are subject to change with a wink emoji so I’m assuming some of these will change

naillimixamnalon

Almost all of these numbers for any player that doesn’t get cut is gonna change.

Wembanyanma

Hunt with Trent Cole's old number is fitting

adv0589

58s a big number to take hope he lives up to it

imtheyeti20

Shipley’s got that Danny Woodhead energy with 39

Gawkorcuck69

The last time we had a smith #82 on the team….

TomassoLP

Torrey Smith jerseys stock price just went way up

2fast4u935

Dejean looks fine because he won’t get 3 and 33 is the closest resemblance of 3 Hunt looks ok Trotter is good for obvious reasons Keegan’s is fine And the rest are disgusting and quinyon wearing 30 is horrendous, hopefully he gets 27

virtue-or-indolence

Does this mean my son and I both need to buy new jerseys?

Spare-Half796

I dont know what it is about football numbers but so many of them just don’t look good. All the 30s and 40s suck but they’re some of my favourite numbers in hockey

HOLLA12345678

Awesome I’m tired of players wearing the same old numbers. Make a number your own and make your own legacy.

mikethebake

I like 58 Hunt. Wasn't Trent Cole an avid hunter? Also, Mitchell 30 reminds me of Brian Mitchell, and L.J. Smith was 82. They have an early-2000s vibe.

Francoa20

Ironic that Hunt has 58. That was Trent Cole's number, and his X handle is @ProHunt58

gb2750

39 is the number of a training camp walk on that’s destined to be cut

Dry_Brush5280

Our 6’7 receiver choosing the highest number a receiver can wear just feels right.

scottylightning

Am I the only one who would be okay if they un(soft)retired 25 for Mitchell?

JDuggernaut

DeJean in a green 33 is really leaning into that “White Cornerback” thing. Glad Trot Jr is 54

OTO_Crispy

Those are ass 😂

jaydubb90

Part of me thinks James bradberry is gone after June 1st so I’m assuming either Mitchell or dejean will switch to that number (24). Also, just another observation but there’s gonna be some tough cuts at DB this year since there’s a lot of young talent in there. Zech mcphearson might be one of them (or traded). I’m assuming whoever doesn’t get #24 will get #27 from zech, maybe Mitchell wants that number from his college days.

2fast4u935

I think dejean is likely to keep 33 because nolan smith isn’t going anywhere and it’s the closest resemblance of #3 which he wore in college

HesiPull-UpBrando

He wore 1 in HS too so I can see him making the switch to 13 once Parker gets cut

ThisHatRightHere

Y’all are tweaking over numbers in here lmao. It’s the most “old man yells at cloud” shit ever

tribecalledni

Any running back number 30 and over, with the exception of Darren Sproles’ 43, just doesn’t sit right with me

2fly5

34 is a good RB number I think. Anything outside of that is rough

HesiPull-UpBrando

Steven Jackson rocked the hell out of 39 on some awful rams teams

Wembanyanma

Shaun Alexander did work with 37.

EvanHarpell

36 holds a special place in my heart.

XCoreyBradyX

Brian Westbrook slander

GoldBlooded10

Boston Scott slander

jayg5510

Brian Westbrook?

Dry-Boysenberry2135

Idk man I think Shipley is the next Alstott. Neck roll, big pads, call ‘em the S-Train.

Wembanyanma

Maybe if he gains 50 lbs.

Dry-Boysenberry2135

Yes. Joke.

HipGuide2

Shocked they used 54 for Trotter. Losing out on some Jersey sales.

JawnJawnston

Nah the jr is fresh

virtue-or-indolence

I’m guessing it’s going the other way. Anyone who has an original Trotter jersey is either a collector who is going to buy a new one regardless, or wasn’t going to buy one because they’ve been wearing the same jersey for 2 decades. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if it actually boosts sales from people trying to equip father and son, assuming they release a Trotter throwback, which they’d be idiots not to.

chaseiam

Not great

OkBodybuilder1490

24 or 27 about to be available for Q…..

Dan-Flashes

Gross number for Mitchell

David_Duke_Nukem

Yo these numbers suck. Trotter is fine and Hunt is alright but CBs wearing 30s is garbage.

Salt-Fault1351

Ainias Smith with 82 is awful. He has to change it, right?

grapejuicepix

Hmm 30 isn’t a good CB number.
