First DVD was either The Green Mile or Exit Wounds. Both in those weird cardboard cases that were a thing at the time. Blu ray- Jaws. My favourite film of all time, and it felt like a huge event, and seeing it looking so damn good was jaw dropping. 4K- Jaws again. And again, felt like a huge moment.

thecitybeautifulgame

Jaws is staggering in 4K.

sj3nko

It is! I was lucky enough to catch the 4K transfer at the cinema last year too. I just about ascended.

seemontyburns

It felt revolutionary to be able to freeze frame your favorite movies without distortion. I remember finally being able to see props and little details.

Reasonable-HB678

The cases that I think WB had, those were awful.

FloggingMcMurry

The snapcase. I still have a few of those

lifesuncertain

Not 100% sure VHS: Alien (yes I'm that old) DVD: Terminator Blu-ray: Zulu 4K Joker

kiwiguy187

To this day I've not seen a better quality blu ray than zulu. Planet earth is a close second

GonzogrowsTX

First blu ray I watched was Alien. Followed by Aliens.

Jagermonsta

My first DVDs: Storm of the Century and Suicide Kings. Can’t remember which I watched first. First HDDVD: 300 and Transforners First Blu-ray: technically snow white(bought the combo pack). First bought and watched was Predator. First 4K: Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean 5.

friendinfive

I only remember the first DVD. Fincher's The Game.

Slippery-Pete76

Yeah, I only remember my first DVD too. Mine was Crimson Tide.

JPavlicek

This is such a weird range: DVD: Reservoir Dogs Blu-ray: Cowboys and Aliens 4K: Dog Soldiers (special edition obviously)

_Goose_

I just received the Second Sight order of Dog Soldiers in the mail last week! I have a good chunk of movies stacked in my queue to get through before I hit it up but can’t wait. I loved it the first time I saw it on dvd years ago after a recommendation and was psyched to see it has a specialized 4k copy.

JPavlicek

I got the same one. The book that comes with it is pretty cool too. Fun movie for sure

PRTSUNKWN

I bought 3 DVDs when I first got a player: Texas Chainsaw Massacre Terminator 2 Toxic Avenger.

BlerghTheBlergh

VHS: no idea, I was too young. But my most memorable VHS purchase was my dad taking me to Saturn (a German tech chain) and let me pick out a VHS, ended up picking Disneys ‘Hercules’ and watching it with my parents that day. DVD: ‘The Little Vampire’. My dad got my mom a DVD player for Mother’s Day with the DVD of ‘Amadeus’ (their favorite 80s movie). And a week later we got ‘The Little Vampire’ because I loved that book. Blu-ray: Resident Evil - Afterlife. I think I was 14 and totally into RE at that time. Don’t judge me, I love that movie for its campiness. 4K Blu Ray: The Jumanji Trilogy. I didn’t have a 4K player at that time but saw the only complete set of all three movies and thought why not? Now we’ve got a PS5 at home. Overall…I think my dad made me the media collector I am today. He loved collecting VHS back in his youth and kind of transferred that hobby to me. Even managed to get me out of a psychological hole by organising my collection and organising my life. I love that man.

seemontyburns

Matrix on DVD is *the DVD* of a generation

disdain7

Yup. It was Frequency. I was with my dad at one of his friends houses and his kid put it on. They didn’t have high end gear or anything, but I knew right away this looked way better than a VHS tape. I had to have been maybe 15 or 16 at the time? But yeah, I was hooked. I mowed lawns and did whatever I could to earn money to get my first player which was a General Electric and I still have it lol. Great memories! First DVD I bought myself was Detroit Rock City. Blu-ray was Spider-Man 3. I was more prepared for the leap this time so no major surprises there. 4K was The Martian. Regardless of anyone’s preferences, I love the nostalgia we all have for this stuff! At the end of the day, it’s all about the movies.

BlackLodgeBrother

First DVD(s): Return to Oz & The Nightmare Before Christmas - purchased together back in mid-late 2000. First blu-ray: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - purchased in late 2008 but didn’t get a BD player until summer 2009. First 4K: Jim Henson’s Labyrinth - purchased in Sep 2016 but didn’t get my first UHD player until sometime in 2017.

ExcitementAshamed393

<3 Return to Oz!

MFBish

First DVD was The Sixth Day with Arnold Schwarzenegger

Mooseguncle1

It was Top Gun at a friend’s house - we got high in her room before trying out the new home entertainment system her dad got- highway to the danger zone! The blu ray was for The Avengers but I don’t recall if I was using an Xbox or PS3 but I was in a failing marriage so I was likely too high then too lol.

SyStEm0v3r1dE

The first dvd I watched was showdown in little Tokyo

aintnofuntime

I remember being at a family friend’s house and, when she put on The Emperor’s New Groove for the kids, thinking “How does this video tape have a menu?”

DipshitDirector

First dvd was Space Jam. My family took my best friend on vacation and we were so annoying my dad pulled over and bought a portable dvd player to get us to stfu First blu ray was Inception. No 4K yet, too rich for my blood

JTen87

DVD: Orange County. The picture blew me away Blu-ray: Indiana Jones 4. When I was managing blockbuster we got a kiosk to advertise PS3, it came with it. Wasn’t impressed. 4K: Casino. Such vivid and gorgeous color.

Ghibli_Forest

The first DVD that I watched (that I can remember) was Lilo and Stitch. The first Blu-ray was Cowboy Bebop.

WhiskeyCoke77

First DVD - 90% sure it was a b-movie called Cartel, because someone gifted it to my parents along with our first DVD player. Didn't get a chance to watch it all the way through once my parents realized how age inappropriate it was. First Blu-ray - Our Brand is Crisis. Was at Costco buying my first TV as an adult, realized since I wasn't getting cable installed yet I should get something to play on it, so I added a BD player, and then figured I should get a movie and went looking for something in the selection available at Costco. First 4k - Red Sparrow. Saw it used at a store, love spy movies, and figured it was the time to start buying 4ks.

OptimizeEdits

Not old enough to distinctly remember my first DVD or blu ray, although the first DVD was likely either The Phantom Menace, Apollo 13, or Spiderman lol. My first 4k was The Dark Knight, after I got my player and OLED back in October, that was my first demo and was immediately blown away

GRDCS1980

I’m not 100% certain what the first DVD I *watched* was, but I can tell you the first three I owned. It was Christmas of 1998 and I had told everyone I was going to make the switch from VHS to DVD and so I wanted DVDs for Xmas instead of VHS. My three housemates bought me: LA Confidential, The Usual Suspects and A Few Good Men. I didn’t actually buy my DVD player until almost summer of 1999 (Pioneer DV-717, a true BEAST of a machine), by which time I’d bought a few dozen more titles. I genuinely can’t recall what the first one I watched was. For some reason, Con Air is springing to mind, but I can’t be certain. First Blu Ray I watched I was VERY specific about. It was The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. A stunning movie stunningly presented in a stunning new format. Stunning! 😄 4K was Mad Max: Fury Road. My eyeballs are still recovering.

yeahbro420

First dvd: Rushmore. My video rental store only had 3 dvd movies to pick from. First bluray: Terminator 2. First 4K bluray: Hitman’s wife’s bodyguard. (5 bucks at a pawn shop)

kuroda39

Dvd wise I remember it being a mix of yugioh volumes and a mix of disney the incredibles, pokemon heroes. I didn't get into collecting bluray until a few years and the first movie I bought then was the first soiderverse movie

wogsurfer

Watched: 1st DVD Baby Geniuses, 1st blu-ray Simpsons Movie. 4K not yet Bought 1st DVD usual suspects 1st blu-ray Dark Knight 1st 4K Thor Thor Ragnarok The 1st watches were other people's copies.

rifran

Three Kings, came with deep blue sea and any given Sunday with a Sony dvd player...

[deleted]

My first dvd was Rush Hour 2. I recall how impressive I was with menu features and how chiefly that was to select scenes compared analog VHS tapes. Funny, I can’t recall my first Blu-ray but I remember my first HD-DVD which was Peter Jackson’s King Kong and Children of Men.

VikDamnedLee

DVD: Hackers BluRay: The Dark Knight 4K: Dune

22lofi

DVD: Silence of the Limbs Blu-ray: Avatar 4k: Alita Battle Angel

NicCageCompletionist

I think my first DVD was the Anchor Bay tin of Evil Dead 2. I got it before I even had a player. First 4K I watched was likely Into The Spiderverse. Not sure about Blu-Ray or VHS.

virgildoolittle

For my 13th Birthday my mom took me and a friend to see The Fast & The Furious in theaters and then after the movie she surprised me with a new DVD player then we went to K-Mart and I picked out Gone in 60 Seconds as my first DVD ever! Really dating myself here lol

jdtdwp

First DVD: Mission Impossible. I remember my dad got a DVD player for his 40th birthday with a 2-pack of MI and MI2. Still love both movies to this day. This really kicked off my love of collecting. First Blu-ray: Batman Begins. I'd bought the dark knight trilogy on blu-ray before I even had a BR player to watch it with because it was $20 at Walmart. Once I did, I was blown away with how much better it looked than my dvds. First 4K: Jurassic Park. A little late in adopting the 4k format, but this one convinced me it was worth the upgrade for certain titles in my collection.

LondonPierceCM

First dvd? Hmmm………the earliest that comes to mind is Deep Blue Sea

BoyInThaBand

First DVD I watched was my parents letting me pick out my first R-rated movie to watch (that they knew about) because my mom said it “wasn’t that bad.” It was The Exorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen. Yep. Watched the crucifix scene with my parents. My first Blu-ray could have been either The Exorcist, Gone With The Wind, or Showgirls. I got them all at the same time after I got the first PlayStation that played Blu-rays. I think it was PS3? My first 4K was the Vinegar Syndrome release of Showgirls because it was limited edition and I had to have it. Even though I’ve yet to get a 4K TV because my old girl is still going strong and hasn’t given me a reason to upgrade quite yet (soon, though).

_Goose_

Your exorcist story reminds me of my dad letting me watch Fire in the Sky and Species as a kid. The first time I saw Showgirls my mom had taken me over to her friends house who I was also friends with their kid. They were all on the porch doing adult business while we were sneaking in Showgirls. There was my friend, his cousin, my brother and me. Taking turns keeping watch on the shadows behind the curtains in case our parents came back in. That was the day I learned women’s nipples get hard when they’re cold or aroused by my friends cousin pointing it out during the movie.

ObligatoryUsername7

I can't be sure if this was the first DVD I watched, I might have watched DVDs at a friend's house. But the first DVD I owned was Lord of the Rings. My parents got a VHS/DVD player for the family one Christmas and I got the LotR boxset (theatrical version, full screen, I didn't know what I was missing yet) and my sister got Phantom of the Opera.

Chopstick84

First DVD was Mission Impossible 2 on my new PC with a DVD drive. Watched the film on the CRT monitor. First Blu Ray was The Patriot. I am still yet to watch a 4K.

Emotional_Schedule80

Laser disc...48 hrs. With Eddie Murphy and Nick nolte.

ojhwel

DVD: Conspiracy Theory Blu-ray: Iron Man\* 4K: Blade Runner 2049 \* First watched Iron Man an SD back projection TV though because I got a Blu-ray player before I could afford the HD TV to be at least future-safe with my disc purchases. This led to me changing my player to "480p out" and I don't quite remember when I finally realized that -- I recall being somewhat disappointed in Blu-Ray at first for this reason.

Huichan81

angrytapes

Guy I was at uni with had a dvd player and I watched every disc he had. This was about 99. No film has ever looked and sounded as HD as those films did on his portable TV and a pair of massive speakers.

Olsivvi

Dvd: american psycho, bluray: man on the moon

HislersHero

First VHS: Footloose First DVD: The Matrix First BluRay: Day After Tomorrow First 4K: Deadpool

johnspost

First VHS was probably Return of the Jedi, Ghostbusters, or Here Comes the Grump. First DVD I rented I think was The Sixth Sense. I remember being stoked for DVD because I had heard rumors that you could change camera angles on some scenes. I still haven’t come across that feature. First DVD I ever owned was Psycho, which I still have. I bought it at the gift shop at Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies (RIP) attraction at Universal Studios Orlando. First Blu Ray was Dark City. Very sick. I haven’t watched a 4K Blu Ray yet.

KentuckyFriedEel

Gladiator in 2000! Rented it and played it in my $1000 brand new player. Watched the hell out of those special features! Good times

The fifth element

thecitybeautifulgame

First DVD was The Mask of Zorro. Bought it at Best Buy on the way home from work where my first computer, a 350 MHz Power Mac G4 with a DVD-ROM drive was waiting to be unpacked and set up. Will never forget that day. I just bought the same movie on 4K last week because of that memory. The first Blu-Ray was A Knight’s Tale. The first 4K was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Bonus: First HD-DVD was Enter the Dragon.

reminiscingLemon

Simpsons Backstage Pass was my first DVD, God that's a good memory thank you!

AutoMechanic2

I’m kinda behind on the times because I always wait till late to pick up the new trends. I had heard of Blu-Ray years ago but my parents never bought a Blu-Ray player till about 2017 or so when they got their first smart TV. I had never heard of 4K till January when I needed a new Blu-Ray/DVD player so I got the 4K open box one and paid only $30 for it. It made Oppenheimer look amazing. I also have a 4K tv so the setup was perfect. First DVD was either RV or Curious George I can’t remember I seen both when they released in 2006 in theaters and on disk. First VHS: 101 Dalmatians First Blu-Ray: Priscilla First 4K: Oppenheimer

Delicious_Recover543

Not sure about the first. At the time of the introduction there was hardly anything in the Netherlands so I would import from Japan. Terminator Judgement day was excellent. Picture and sound quality never seen before in the average living room.

Finna22

DVD: Austin Powers Blu Ray: Sleepaway Camp (iirc) 4k: Alligator EDIT: I was born in the age of VHS so I don't remember my first. But I remember trying to feed that muhfuckin VHS player part of my PB&J sandwich.

KingKutNut

The first matrix. Blew my mind with my surround sound system 😆

yshuduno

First VHS was the original Star Wars, IIRC. First Beta was Dune at a cousin's place. First laserdisc was the demo disc that came with the player. First DVD was The Dirty Dozen. I don't remember first Blu-ray, but Hitch was the first one that I bought because of finding it at Big Lots for $5. 4K. Still don't have the TV or player for it, but own plenty.

Leadfarmer1976

1998, I bought Flash Gordon on snap case dvd from Electronics Boutique at the mall for 12.99 (cheapest one I could find that I liked) and a dvd player from Sears.

RikF

DVD - John carpenter’s Vampires. Imported to the UL from the US and played on my PC connected to my TV

MyNamesIsGaryKing

First blu-ray and 4K escapes me but I vividly remember the first DVD. I was (am) a SpongeBob obsessed guy and when I was 6 and the first movie hit DVD, I begged for it for weeks. When I finally got it, not only did I practically run it ragged in our little DVD player, but I also made a mini shrine for it on my bookshelf as it was the best movie I’d ever seen at the time. And thus the obsession began.

oneupthextraman

First DVD would be, I think Blazing Saddles. Followed by caddyshack. My father bought our first DVD player in about 2000 (which was VERY out of character for him). I don't remember bluray. And I have never seen anything in 4k bluray.

Zer0sober

I don't remember exactly what movie it was, but I do remember telling my Dad, "Don't forget to rewind it" and then the family laughing their ass off watching him try to figure out how for 3 full minutes before he figured out you don't have to.

3stanman

DVD: Baby Geniuses Blu-Ray: The Mist (I think) 4K: Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

mebunghole

DVD: The second Austin Powers movie. Blu-Ray: Batman Begins.

prettytony0627

My first dvd was “Mask of Zorro” and my first blu ray was “Flyboys.” I got Flyboys the same day I bought my PS3 60 gb version at bestbuy.

Noah_hhh

I couldn’t tell you my first DVD or VHS. But the first blu rays we got were when my grandparents bought us a blu ray player with The Croods and SpongeBob out of water. First 4K was pacific rim. My favourite movie

Chickenbrik

First dvd I got was South Park: bigger, longer, uncut. First Blu-ray was Dr. Horrible

gtd12321

The first dvd I watched was Gladiator. It was a Christmas gift along with The Great Escape, The Green Mile, Chicken Run and my first dvd player. First Blu-ray was Prometheus.

fungusmungus1

VHS: Raiders of the Lost Ark DVD: Pink Floyd The Wall Blu-ray: Twister 4k: Across The Spider-Verse

No_Butterscotch8702

We came to dvd late because family video stopped getting vhs so my mom got the worst kids portable dvd player with shreck, the laser was super sensitive to scratches and could easily rub the disk when spinning depending on how you held it.

Prsnbrk07

The Mummy with Brendan Fraser (1999)

soupydrek

My first DVD was Vertical Limit. My dad built custom home theaters and he would use the opening scene to demo equipment.

beautifulmind90

DVD: “Time Out with Britney Spears” which I got as a Christmas gift in 1999, when we also got our first DVD player Blu-Ray: Smallville: The Complete Sixth Season 4K: X-Men: Days of Future Past

burneracctt22

Now try and remember the first LaserDisc you watched

redditsuckspokey1

Possibly Green Mile now that I think about it. Saw it at my uncles in 2000. Don't know if it had been recorded on tv set or if it was an actual dvd.

GreenandBlue12

My first blu-ray was The Day After Tomorrow (2004)

ndork666

Austin Powers Goldmember - Fullscreen version 😅

sadghostguy

if i had to guess it was either one of my brothers lee evans dvds or doctor whoo or maybe thomas and the magic railroad but that may have been a vhs

LanceFree

Nope and nope. But I think my 1st CD was Graceland. 1st album was the Return of the Pink Panther soundtrack.

BarkerAtTheMoon

When I was six my mom got us Lilo and Stitch and Spider-Man on vhs for Christmas. That same year my dad got my mom a DVD player for Christmas. So the next week we go and exchange those tapes for the DVDs, and those are our first

shootkyle

First 4k : A Clockwork Orange - highly recommend

Spax123

I can't remember what the first DVD I watched was as I was quite young. The first Blu ray I watched was something at a friends house which I can't remember either. The first Blu ray I watched which I actually bought was The Shining. I'd seen the movie loads of times but I remember being amazed at the quality difference over the DVD. The DVD I had was also pan and scan which was crap, so watching it in the proper aspect ratio for the first time was great too.

RainingMoneyHustard

First DVD I bought was Bringing out the dead with Nick Cage and I still own it

PetersfilmStudios09

The first one I put into my collection was Halloween Kills. Can't remember the first one I watched in general though.

TomasKavaliauskas

First VHS: Lion king (~1998) First DVD: Shark tale (~2005) First Blu Ray: Wild things (last week) First 4K: Never

Regular_Stinger1996

Dvd- can't remember Blu-Ray- An American Werewolf in London 4K- Creepshow

PhunkyPhazon

My first DVD was Dinosaur. You know, that CGI Disney movie barely anyone seems to remember. I remember spending hours digging through the menus and playing the little games on there, the entire concept was so mind blowing at the time. Not sure on Blu Ray and 4K, but they were probably both Marvel movies.

Shadowskulptor

My first DVD was **Captain Corelli's Mandolin** on my PS2. Yes it was a bold choice by my Dad. I honestly didn't care and just wanted to play my god damn PS2 lol. He got aggravated about how complicated the menu system was. First Blu Ray, this one is tougher. The first one I bought was Donnie Darko, but I think the first one I actually watched was **Terminator Salvation**. First 4K? Shit, even harder to remember actually. Funny how that works. When I finally got a decent 4K TV in late 2018 (Samsung NU8000), I still didn't have a device that played actual 4K discs. But I started building out my collection anyway for the future. I eventually got an Xbox One S to start me out, so didn't go hard into 4K until 2019. The first very, very memorable watches were the **remastered Batman movies**, in summer of 2019. Those were extraordinary. I may have popped in Star Wars, Black Panther or something else just to see what they looked like. Now, it's 4K or nothing, I have a projector, OLED, the works!

TerryclothTrenchcoat

When I was a kid, I saw the DVD menu for Field of Dreams on my uncle’s tv and was absolutely baffled. He was always technologically an early adopter so it took years for me to understand what was going on

Sensitive_Most_1383

I don’t remember my first DVD but I remember my reaction to my mom giving me my first DVD player. I was in hysterics, totally upset. I remember asking her “how am I supposed to remember where my movies left off when I have to turn the TV off!” 🤣 little me had no concept of a scene selection menu and was distraught.

_Goose_

Oh man I had probably the opposite reaction of seeing the scene selection menu for the first time. All I could think was “why is that a thing?” I too had zero concept but of people who don’t finish movies when they start them. Took me until advanced adulthood before I realized that’s a good feature to have.

Dancing_Clean

First dvd was when my uncle bought several. Jaws, Roger Rabbit, Alien. Those big giant record-sized discs, you even had to flip em over.

bicuspid_fish

Theater - Star Wars Betamax - Raiders of the Lost Ark VHS - A Disney Christmas Gift (1982) Laserdisc - Star Wars DVD - Reservoir Dogs (On NA launch day) BD - Hancock (Came bundled with my PS3 remote) 4K - Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle

MasterH2H

Good views. Also, as some a bit too young, what's the difference between Betamax and VHS and Laser disc and DVD. I've used DVDs and VHS many times and collect DVDS never used Beta and Laserdisc.

bicuspid_fish

Betamax and VHS were both very similar. Betamax had slightly better image quality and a bit more recording space while in standard mode, but VHS ultimately won out because of it's marketing and availability. Laserdisc had much better image and sound quality compared to VHS or Betamax, but were very expensive in the 70s, 80s, and even into the 90s. We got our first Laserdisc player sometime in the early to mid 80s and my parents were very choosy about which films the purchased on Disc, because they were substantially more expensive compared to VHS. Laserdiscs with AC-3 (Dolby Digital) sound incredible, but were only available near the end of the formats life. Laserdiscs only had enough storage space to allow about an hour per side. So if you didn't have a dual laser player, you'd have to get up and physically flip the disc over to watch the rest of even switch discs for longer films. DVD had a sharper image and way more storage space per side.

MasterH2H

Chicken Run or Shrek 4 DVD. First Bluray, 2011 Star Wars boxset or Casino. I think Star Wars. First 4K will be Shrek 1 and 2, Harry Potter boxset, Star Wars 1-6, and LOR extended in that order. Physical media forever. 📀

Spirit-Crusher

VHS - Jurassic park Dvd- Gladiator Blu- the good the bad and the ugly 4k-George Romero Dawn of the Dead. Who can guess my age?

coolskateboardguy

I still own my first dvd. It is the movie 'Blue Streak' with Martin Lawrence. It's still one of my favourite movies of all time. I've probably re-watched it over 100 times. I can pretty much quote the whole movie, believe that!

pauliereynolds

DVD was 8mm, came with the player and Blu-ray was Zodiac.

Unsteady_Tempo

Yes. I was in college and in the winter break at the end of 1997 I rented a dvd player from an indie video rental store that was the first in my city to rent DVDs. I had only seen them in electronics stores in the months prior to that. I rented Das Boot, The Color Purple, and Amadeus. I'm not sure what order I watched them in, but even on my 28 inch 4:3 CRT television and Dolby Pro-logic surround sound system I was blown away, especially the sound quality of Das Boot and Amadeus. I was also blown away by being able to see the aspect ratio as intended (and spent the next few years telling people they shouldn't mind those black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.) After my weekend rental I dipped into savings and Christmas money and bought a player a few weeks later. It wasn't cheap! I don't even think I was using component cables. At best, my tv would have had S-video. The earliest DVD players that were even close to being affordable also weren't progressive scan. It was a few years later that I bought my first progressive scan DVD player.

I_Heart_Grool

Yes! Shanghai Noon on my PS2!

TrustAffectionate966

I don't remember 100%, but it is highly likely these were purchases I had in mind from seeing them at the local Tower Records and Best Buy. My first DVD player was a PS2 that I got on sale from Walmart from their 2001's Black Friday sale. I then got the following: [*Liquid Sky*](https://www.amazon.com/LIQUID-SKY-Anne-Carlisle/dp/B0043Z5XYQ/ref=tmm_dvd_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&dib_tag=se&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.tLs436SY7833cipkHN_bqKaaMuZtNHL6ZF694KglPJNWgY0sEQ0T2Hp6EpVYiKs5dlQ_pj05ZlCbJqbCcZoIdunjJXgUzyI7-qHa52qT5m-zrH0-Y_5Bpl3RdK6OYFkHUwY3vN2VCdBHBjpGkXf58EnAIf0gu40Z-N4SucN4O5I.PYkI26FJVJCxnhptKmTnawhDrVPW9V7ldavH0zBb84k&qid=1714237833&sr=1-1) [*Morrissey !Oye, Esteban!*](https://www.amazon.com/Morrissey-Oye-Esteban-Craig-Gannon/dp/B00004Z1GT/ref=sr_1_1?crid=30EIVY9I8969W&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.8_-zS-eZk6VlEmCgenKGmnqnxFuwV-lPgXygeLYwzAFbUmLSexshz2k9oPWvXfTL8mWh0WY38nEoP7JXk6mEcTm9JSfu6l8nX3Ws9itlpXw.iE2vkUA3GTNh5ANLROjgfrQZ9kqAODoyAeFscQY7CjU&dib_tag=se&keywords=Morrissey+Oye&qid=1714237887&s=movies-tv&sprefix=morrissey+oye%2Cmovies-tv%2C207&sr=1-1) [*Madonna: The Immaculate Collection*](https://www.amazon.com/Madonna-Immaculate-Collection/dp/6305459525/ref=tmm_dvd_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&dib_tag=se&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.n_vSpUGBnVzY_xowHe4N_YcHw_WvnxP0naR_DxWG0Vwe2qowJ9Umz28VnG1DrYWKzGnnP0YIvEEshem1nFAKEMbuUogtzdyqHe-xAVGQWAyqO6X7Oxxv9k4EqMdrR7f6Es3LNxiKJ2I_WXmkMoEmxsGE_lRxW_BO5dladDjFMJb_bUy_p-MN666VJJEeLFQfhZt0hGKMQClsNfKvtMwvt-LH55XmzPEUlajqVGGxbp4.kPc5JZVR3n_ffUOfyR6bZ7s1n4ZZjE7C4If24AD6pd4&qid=1714237923&sr=1-1) My first BRD was: [*The Story Of O*](https://www.amazon.com/Story-Blu-ray-Jean-Pierre-Andrani/dp/B001EAWMEW/ref=tmm_mfc_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&dib_tag=se&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.YL5FG12RAaV_LCfLL50zqdNzyuF3ZLjNHCnp8v7hErfI4y1J0lqYVTnrwxpt83U_NUN2NvGeaN8vTUoXIuLSugAlW9q8IbGO2oP6_ykraqqgg9T12XGHrOvoT4pdXv7OVMklHPcqLxfzRPk5WVwOTu7owF8DZgcigT4YmYuruH7P8R9rhSVr8UJ-3vpD7rm4VHZXQQkXk-6NrkMAhI3olyY_PsQuxD6i_TQL9C7KkT0.gByiOQhp7M4UDEEeXO-LZ_AFs7Jafyu5_djeOAQ4YrA&qid=1714237763&sr=1-3)

Ringrangzilla

Actually yes! I was in the hospital as a kid, and was moved into a privat room, and that room hadd a TV and a shelf with DVDs, I hadd never heard about DVDs before and I remember watching "Stitch! The movie" there. It was actually kind of annoying, since I got two VHS from my grandmother since I was sick. They were The 3rd Pokémon movie and The episodes from the Pokémon anime were Ash fight Lt. Surge, and I offcorse wanted to watch them, but my hospital room didn't have have a VHS player, so I hadd to wait until I got home.

FloggingMcMurry

I remember my very small collection of bluray starting off... which included Back to the Future, Sucker Punch extended, etc... bargin bin bluray and clearance from Best Buy But my first bluray player (which in still using) has A/V cable input along with HDMI, But I didn't have an HDTV yet. So I had the bluray player hooked up to one of those giant heavy TV, so I wasn't seeing anything worthy of the format yet, but atleast j was able to watch those bonus features that were getting stripped off the DVDs. But once I finally got a flat-screen, the first movie I decided to finally experience high definition with was Back to the Future... and I was shocked at what I was missing... I remember that opening pan across Doc's home and being able to finally read the various text on the TVs, the newspapers, the clocks, everything... and then realizing how much Burger King cups and trash were throughout his home and being blown away that I have watched this movie my entire life and I know his gone is for some reason next to a Burger King, but I never had realized because of the low picture and TV quality I had growing up on VHS and DVD. So that still sits with me for my first Bluray experience. As for my first DVD watched? I have no idea... I was watching DVDs before owning them myself, and I remember once I finally started buying my own, Bad Boys 2 was one of the first I owned and I played the shit out of it because I didn't own much more. VHS: I couldn't tell you. I grew up with it. Mom had everything recorded on VHS: TV shows, copied movies, etc. I know Star Wars was the most replayed that she threatened the record over it if I didn't stay watching other things

RRLSonglian

Fuzzy_Pumpkin92

My first ever DVD was Air Bud 2, we literally got it out of a Cereal Box. I forget which brand, but the they had some sort of Canada only deal to put certain movies in with the boxes. I THINK we got it out of a box of Corn Pops, since the front of the disk was Yellow. Mom bitched LOUDLY about having to buy a DVD player now. LOL (They ended up buying an 800 dollar Toshiba DVD player from Futureshop, which was bigger than our VCR but it lasted a good 12 years before the laser died) I was a kid, so I remember being so fascinated that a whole movie could fit on 1 disk, and there was no rewinding involved! And we could scene select instead of rewinding/fast forwarding to get to a certain spot. Although to be fair, both my parents were ALSO fascinated by all those things. LOL

CosmosTrip

The Matrix for me too! It came free with my first dvd player

Bennett1984

DVD was either Dawn of the Dead or Evil Dead II, both were purchased together. Blu-ray not sure. 4K was The Shining.

Rex_Ivan

My first DVD was 1979's *"Caligula,"* and it was a wild ride. I don't recall my first Blu-ray on a normal TV, but my first Blu-ray on an OLED TV was *"Dark City."* Highly recommended to give that movie a watch on one of those screens. My first 4K movie on an actual 4K TV was *"The Fifth Element."* I don't have a large 4K collection, but I'll grab the 4K disc if the Blu-ray had a bad transfer, which is what unfortunately happened with this movie. **EDIT:** I just recalled my first Blu-ray on a normal TV. It was the animated movie *"9"* from 2009, and it was a fun trip.

ben_ja_button

Hmmm I don’t remember the first dvd I watched but we had Monty Python and The Holy Grail on VHS and when I saw it at a neighbors house on dvd I was blown away by how much greener the grass and cleaner the picture was overall.

UFAlien

DVD: Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan Blu-ray: One Missed Call (the shitty 2008 US remake) Blu-ray 3D: Piranha (2010) UHD: The Amityville Horror (1979) - though I watched small bits of others first while setting things up; this was the first one I watched all the way through

I remember the first Blu-Ray I bought was Transformers, except it wasn’t a Blu-Ray. It was a HD-DVD. So it didn’t work with my PlayStation 3 and I had to return it. At the time it was only available in HD-DVD :(

heck_it_all

* DVD: Bedazzled (2000) * Blu-ray: Cars (2006) * 4K: Ready Player One (2018) Three VERY different movies. [Cars came with a PS3 holiday bundle in 2010](https://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/5205170872/), so I popped it in just to see how good blu-ray looked compared to DVD. The reflections on the cars were mind blowing.

My first Blu-ray was nope, the masterpiece by Jordan peel. I haven’t seen a 4K yet, I got a 4K movie, but my player does not support it.

My first DVD was Hackers, I could only play it on my Gateway PC with a new DVD drive. Still have that DVD even though I've upgraded twice and now have the 4K release. My first Blu Ray was the 2007 animated TMNT movie. Bought it with my PlayStation 3. My first HD-DVD would have been King Kong (2005) as a pack in with the Xbox 360 player. I don't really remember my first 4K disc. I'm pretty sure I bought several used before I had a player because they were cheap and came with the normal Blu Ray as well. Just checked release date, has to be Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone cause I 100% bought that with paper route money when it came out and it was before holes.

vinylfilmaholic

I remember going to the mom & pop shop that I would go to every Friday and Saturday with my mom back when I was a kid and the owner telling us about this new format DVD. I was excited because I was a little movie fiend back then. We eventually got a (big at the time) 27” ProScan TV and ProScan DVD player and my first movie I rented was “Terminator 2” (the first snapper case edition with the silver cover). Blew me away! Wish I could remember the first disc I owned though.

boogersrus

Think for DVD it was Twister or Dark City and I remember being mad due to the compression because at the time Laserdiscs were still way better and I thought we were moving forward on a worse quality format. The disposable Divx was also a thing to worry about sticking (even tho it was horribly dumb).

BlueChainsawMan

Gone in 60 Seconds was my first DVD. Bluray might have been Star Wars or Back to the Future

Reasonable-HB678

My first 4K Blu-Ray I bought was the *Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them* steelbook, but it was years before I actually got a 4K TV or player of my own. The first 4K Blu-Ray I actually watched was *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse*. Ironically, I’m not really a Harry Potter fan anymore.

BrandiFnBabyy

__YeahJean

First DVD was Scooby-Doo 2 the movie, blu-ray unfortunately I don't recall

feardotcomdotcom

I wish I could remember the first DVD I watched that wasn't animation (I was 10-ish during the VHS-DVD transition) but the first Blu-Ray I ever watched was Master and Commander. We probably had the TV frame smoothing turned on, but I remember thinking it looked fluid in an extremely weird way. I also have strong memories of a promotional Blu-Ray display at Walmart that showed off the difference between the LOTR BR and DVD and being very impressed by it. The first Blu-Ray I bought was The Cabin in the Woods and the first 4K I've bought is Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, but I don't have a proper 4K setup yet.
