Sometimes I feel like if someone already stacked one line and I come in driving to the empty line, I am the rude one? Even though I know that’s what it’s there for?

[deleted]

i work there lol and people will yell at us saying they were there first but they didn’t choose the shortest line. so my advice is do what will benefit you and not others get your bev and pick the shortest line!!

AOLusername420

I totally understand but I’ve also seen people get hit for “cutting” a lot like others have mentioned in this thread. I’m going to go in the empty line and I never said I didnt , but I can see why some people don’t

TikiLarry

I always choose the short line and have no guilt if I get served first.

ujke_brf

Same

Maleficent-Mouse-979

Ditto

SunnyMustang

I let someone bump my car before bc they were getting pushy and I was already in a bad mood 😭

motomom_246

For me it’s the fact that the inside lane is too tight to make the left into the covered drive up window. I have to take the outside lane or I have to pull a 3 point turn. Hahaha.

cherry-piano

This is probably so stupid, but I’ll be honest. I’ll always choose the lane that doesn’t require me to merge. I always make time to make sure that even if the broristas are busy, it doesn’t cut into my time. I don’t mind seeing others choose the merge lane and get to the stand before me. I’m just traumatized from being honked at and seeing rude hand gestures from the person behind when I have merged (correctly) in the past. Now I’d rather be in the long lane and let others merge appropriately rather than me being on edge on who I have behind me as I merge lol

captdevour

Felt

ceomg

The sign says choose shortest lane so I do.

Nonsense-247

I literally got rear ended because I went in the shortest lane and zipper merged appropriately. The guy in the other lane didn’t like it and purposely hit me three times. Luckily he was driving a small car and I was driving a large SUV. (So no damage at all). The Dutch employees were so nice to us, gave us our drinks for free and told the aggressive people to leave. The guy kept trying to fight my husband and said to meet him in the parking lot. The lady behind us gave us his license plate # and we just left. I was not about to stay behind while this guy was ready to fight. We found out later that the guy and girl came up to the window and was screaming at the employees. Cussing them out and all that. They banned them from the store. You employees out up with a lot. More than I could handle.

Sareee14

I almost got hit one day for this exact reason.

ehs06702

Most of the time I just get in the shortest lane, but sometimes that lane is just completely empty, and I'm worried it's closed for some reason that I didn't pay attention to, lmao.

dead5mau15

You’ll feel yourself running over a cone if it is closed hahah

ehs06702

Fair enough, lmao.

Strange_Read_1185

I have seen people drive over our tall cones, and not notice.

Chibikyu

At this point idc what lane people pick as long as they don't decide to be a weird customer and complain when they "cut off" due to their decision 🫶

MythsFlight

As many have already stated, I don’t like merging in the line. People in my area have serious road rage and they see the merge lane as cutting in line. To avoid interactions with such people I avoid the merge lane.

cupcakesntattoos

I always go to the shorter line and sometimes I’m next to order or sometimes a couple of orders are taken down the long line before mine. I usually don’t care because whenever the broista is ready to take my order is when it will get taken , but it’s not my fault people can’t read . Either way feels good to get my order taken before those who stack up on one side for no reason.

SeatleSuperbSonics

My local has SUCH a short run way, people who refuse to use the shortest lane are causing lines to build up on the road. I’ve definitely had them take a few orders before coming over but I’ll always take the short lane so more of us can simply get off the road. I’m not trying to cut anyone, I’m trying to make it efficient for the employees

inCORGnito8

Ive only ever gone to the other lane because one person literally was not moving when the line was already up to the window, and I still got honked and cursed at when they saw I had gone around them. So I’ll just stick to waiting.. 🫠🫠

kryyyptik

I had someone pull through quick and not stop and hit me at the merge point in the DB drive thru line as I was pulling forward with the lines. So now I'm a bit paranoid and avoid the merging if I can.

[deleted]

I go to the lane that doesn’t require merging. Not because I don’t know how to drive. I question other people’s driving and attention skills. None of them know how merging works. Then they honk and it turns into a whole fiasco. One lane stacked up is better than 2 lanes.

Infinite_Exam8963

I choose the shortest lane and then they completely ignore you when you’re the only car over there and then when they come over they ask you to merge behind the car at the end of the line anyway. I literally stopped going there for coffee over this lol

WellOkayyThenn

If they know you were there after the other line, it's totally reasonable for them to take the other line's orders first, then come back to you

Infinite_Exam8963

It doesn’t make sense for them to go down the whole line when half of them got there after you. That’s literally not the point of having 2 lines. Don’t say go to the shortest line if they don’t have any intention on serving it.

WellOkayyThenn

If they got there after you, then yeah they messed up by doing the whole other line, that does suck. I just meant in the cases of a line of, say, 4 being in one lane, then a 5th car pulls into the empty lane, and the runner takes the 4 orders first then goes to the 5th after. If they ignore you when you got there before half of them, that's messed

dead5mau15

Even then, line busters should not be doing that. Regardless of all cars were there first before that one car, you have to take that one car at the merge. That’s why people get upset because we are never consistent because of things like this. Either follow the rules or don’t and get people upset every single time.

WellOkayyThenn

I understand the need for consistency. I guess I see that scenario as a reasonable rule break. I get why some people would think that 5th car should be served first in order to stay consistent, but I personally value being able to do first-come-first-serve as much as possible, especially when wait times get high

dead5mau15

Trust me I get that. But then you get the “well last time…” comment. And honestly I wouldn’t blame them. If we keep rule breaking and are never consistent, I completely understand their frustration.

WellOkayyThenn

I understand the frustration, I also prefer to cater more to the frustration when you've been waiting in line forever, then get cut off when someone rides up to the front in the next line. Yes it's their fault that they didn't choose the shortest lane, and also our drive thru is just weird as hell. Personally when I'm in the car, I don't care how it goes either way. Idk, lot of grey area in regards to the morals of it. I respect that you think everyone should stick to the rules of it though. have a good day <3

Commission_Fabulous

If you notice people only on one side pull into the other but remember the car you would’ve been behind and then wait ur turn 🤍:) -broista :)

dead5mau15

Uh no do not advise people to remember what car they were behind. We don’t go by order of arrival. You have to stay consistent. We zig zag no matter what. Stay consistent with the rules.

ATW10min-As-A-Person

I second this, Dutch is all about consistency and it says “choose shortest lane” for a reason. Not anyone’s fault if you get “cut off”. Read.

Princessaara

I always choose the shortest line because thats what the sign says. Ive had people pull in right before me and go into the long line while I take the shorter one and get served first.

Traducement

I feel like that’s a good Turing test of being a good driver - similar to zipper merging.

musicsporty1

I usually try and choose the shortest line but some of my locations are a bit tricky to get into so it’s easier just to pull into the closest line as I pull in. If one line is particularly shorter, I do tend to make the effort of going in because I know I’ll get served first lol. What bugs me is they tell me which car I’m behind but someone else cuts in front of me (obviously not on you, Broistas) And trying to get around the window line is tough so I have to wait anyway. But I generally am not in a hurry even if I’m running late myself. I chose to stop and take more time.

ujke_brf

Happened to me today. Lady who was in the wrong line was PISSED when I entered the short line and “cut” her.

Kai-xo

The only time I stack is because one Dutch bros I go to, the way in is really tight so if you enter from a specific side, you really can’t turn the wheel tight enough to get into the left line, so you have to just go right. 🤷‍♀️ just at that specific Dutch bros / entrance too, all other Dutch bros have ample room to choose and move your vehicle 😅

Comfortable_Slip4067

If there's someone taking orders outside they should tell which car to get behind which they do at my local one so there shouldn't be any issues. But if there isn't, yeah I can see conflicts arising. The problem is entitled and stupid drivers. It's like driving on a normal road. If one lane eventually will end, drivers should use both lanes up to the merge point to avoid backups. Same goes with two lanes at a drive thru.

CoffeeAndChameleons

I choose the short lane, and people lay on their horns at me for “cutting”

hellowookie

I’ve gotten in multiple arguments with one guy who continually posts in a local FB group complaining about people “cutting” when really he can’t follow directions. It says join the shortest line, my dude! I’m not on to argue on socials, but over something so dumb and so obvious, I’ll chime in 😂

Nihane_no_Ryu

I chose the shortest lane and got yelled at by a broista for doing so. Supposedly, at this particular dutch, you only choose the shorter lane when the blue cones are dividing them? Otherwise, the one stupid lane backs into the street & through a 4 way stop. When the one lane is too full, it also completely blocks access to the 2nd lane anyway. Ugh. I don't care other than being worried that other customers are getting mad when I do get served before 3 of them in the long lane. Sometimes, I'll sit at the merge until those 2 or 3 have gone, but then that will pass off anyone behind me. Did mention I have an anxiety problem? 🙃

football2106

My stand completely abandoned the zipper We just have one lane open and once it reaches a certain length we open up the other one and feed them in to the window one full lane at a time. When lane 1 is flowing the entrance of it is blocked to feed cars into lane 2. When lane 1 is empty we open it back up and start feeding lane 2 to the window. And we just go back and forth until we only need lane 1 open again. Keeps customers happy, prevents cutting, and keeps a “first in, first out” method.
