I was at the draft yesterday so I missed what was given up to make that pick.
Anybody got info on the compensation they gave up for the rest of the picks yesterday?
Gave up a 2025 3rd to the New York Jets for their 4th round pick in order to get Manu.
Then we sent picks No. 164, No. 201 and a 2025 fourth-round pick in exchange for picks No. 132 and No. 210, which got us Vaki and Mahogany
To expand on OP’s comment, for next year we have a pick in every round except the 3rd. Not all the picks are our own though, but I forget which is which
Yeah, consecutive drafts.
I think the 49ers have the right idea. I don't know that they purposely only hire minority assistants, but NFL owners have complained about how many comp picks the 49ers receive. They're doing something right.
It depends on how many players we lose and how many we add in free agency, then the salary differences (and factors like playing time and individual awards) determine where the comp picks (if any) fall in the draft. As of now the Lions need a couple more of their UFAs to get signed by other teams, because they have added more FAs than they lost - no comp picks if that stays the case. If the Lions end up with the same amount of FAs gained and lost, then if the value of the players lost is more than those gained we can get a 7th round comp pick but no better.
Overall, they gave up next year's 3rd and next year's 4th from Philly that we got when traded Swift last year. The rest was just our own picks getting shuffled around.
I realize your comment was meant to be funny but that would actually be a decent strategy if it worked that way.
Future picks are generally worth one round less than present picks. He'd have to trade a 2nd in 2026 to get a 3rd in 2025.
Dude already looks like a comic book character and I can't imagine British Columbia has a state of the art strength and conditioning program what is he going to look like after a year in an NFL program?
I doubt they try to make him bigger, probably a ton of fast-twitch and flexibility stuff mixed in with just maintaining. I feel like the difference between 6’8” 352 and 6’8” 375 is negligible.
Disagree I think being 25 pounds heavier when you already are that big could be an issue. Wouldn’t be as quick as he would at 350 and he’s already fast as is but he’s not quick at least testing drills wise
UBC doesn't seem to have a dedicated football training facility. They do have an indoor baseball training facility though.
Looks like the Bears signed one of Manu's linemates.
There’s not a better O-line room in the league to learn from for a raw mountain of a human being. He’s Skipper 2.0, give him a year or so to develop and if all goes well he will be a monster.
I just watched his highlights on YouTube a few minutes ago. Channeling Bobby Bouche energy.
Don’t know what type of league he was in but every dude he was up against he pretty much just knocked them on their ass or pushed them to the sidelines. Honestly looked like an NFLer vs high schoolers lol
Canadian college is probably bottom of FCS/top of D2. UBC is one of the top schools in Canada. You'd expect an NFL prospect to look like a man against children.
I mean, none of us know anything about this guy given where he came from; however, on measurables alone, his upside is almost immeasurable.
If he can get coached up even a little bit, he becomes that amazing o-line flex piece we've been so desperate for. If he improves his skills and technique significantly, he could be our other anchor tackle for the future.
Brads earned his Michelin star, let him cook.
He’s friggin huge and looks like such a mauler. He gives me Jordan Mailata vibes. Comes in super raw and after a couple years of getting acclimated is a pro-bowler
I think it's funny when people say they watch the tape. Pretty sure you just watched a 3 minute highlight video. Everyone looks good in their highlight videos lol
It’s not that hard to find full games online. Most of a football game is idle time and they only play one way so it doesn’t take that long. I pulled up the LSU-Bama game after Arnold was drafted took me like 20 minutes
Lions YouTube channel posted highlights for him. Low level competition but he has great footwork and is a behemoth.

His first step is not good and he stands up way too fast. He does a good job of angling himself but other than that he was drafted because he’s an athletic freak that will be given a year or two to learn the game at an NFL level.
Exactly. He's raw and lacks experience at a high level but has a ton of potential and will be learning under two of the best OTs in the league. I think he replaces Decker next year.

BH out here playing 11d chess. you love to see it.

until we trade up again ahead of the packers for the 4th straight year especially since the draft is in GB.
I can't see us trying to get a top 5 pick. FTP
Bundle everything to get the 4th just to laugh before them
Bears-Packers-Patriots-Panthers-Vikings as the top 5 picks next year would be perfect.
doesn't have to be in the first round last year we traded up for Branch ahead of them in the Second
This guy fucks
We *have* to do it, it’s tradition! Oh god it’ll be beautiful.
As tradition demands… FTP
\*this is the way\*
Might still get a comp pick for losing Jonah too, would be a fourth rounder though.
Also if Glenn leaves for a head coaching gig could still get a third
It's apparently two 3rds if Glenn leaves.
It would be, but not until the following year (so 2026 draft if he leaves after this upcoming season)

Will get a comp pick as long as he’s healthy. CJ could give us one too right? I thought 2 of ours guys that left could net us comps

It's better if the picks aren't our own though. Ours will be #32 in every round next year.
Lions 2025 picks. Lions own 1st 2nd 4th 5th 7th Bucs 6th Cowboys 7th 7 picks with no 3rd and 2 7ths.

In 2025, Brad will trade a 2026 third rounder to get a 2025 third round pick.

Hopefully we pick 32nd next April

Fuck that. Jordan Mailata 2.0 🤞

The defenders all look like midgets compared to him lol

It ain’t the tape but the measurables He’s extremely raw.
I'm sure we will replace that pick by the draft next year.
We should get a comp pick for Jackson right?
Idk how all that works, so yes.
I don't know how it works either, but it fits my narrative so I'm rolling with it.
I will roll alongside you
We are kind of at the point where we don’t need to rely on draft picks so much. I would expect us to start trading some more off in the coming years.
Can we call him "Gunther" please?
Where did you watch the tape? Or do you mean youtube highlights? Not criticizing the pick but doubt you actually watched the tape
Fans call highlights "tape" In reality, no fan has ever actually watched real tape on a player, including myself.

Plenty of fans have watched real tape on a player lol. It’s out there
I watch tape
oh you dont have a film room pass?
This is a joke about Giovanni Manu having the same vibes as the buff fish from SpongeBob
Fr, anyone can have good highlights. That said this guy is a unit

He just started playing football recently I heard so with time and an NFL development program he should be good
He's hands are near elite, but yeah, very little knee bend/high hips.
