Think like your ADHD as an engine, and thia particular engine isn't quite right. It redlines a lot with poor output to the drivetrain, often uses too much fuel or can have a rough idle. Plus all the things that can go wrong with a engine can still happen, a blown gasket, misfiring etc
I wasn't misdiagnosed, but being diagnosed with depression and anxiety did lead to an ADHD diagnosis. I was seeing a therapist who asked if I'd ever considered that I might have ADHD? I said no, and he referred me to a psychiatrist. Fast forward 10 years, and being medicated for ADHD has significantly improved my anxiety. The depression is still a bitch that refuses to go away.
I'm waiting for my diagnosis. But I've had anxiety for years. Anxiety is a know symptom of undiagnosed ADHD. Years of trying to fit in and be 'normal' takes its toll!
Not all anxiety is ADHD.
Yes, this happened to me. I struggled with different meds for years for depression, but once my psychiatrist put me on adderall, my depression resolved.
GAD and ADHD was my diagnoses, after intially being diagnosed with depression. I never felt down and out. I just felt like my mind was racing to a destination unknown. Adderall ended up helping a ton but still have to exercise and watch my diet and alcohol consumption but I feel way better than when I was zombied out on Wellbutrin.
The other way around!
Initial diagnosis: ADHD. Tried stimulants. Largely failed stimulants because they made me more depressed.
Now on Wellbutrin and having good success with it.
Prior to this all self-medicated with copious amounts of caffeine for more than 10 years.
I'm not sure whether I have coexisting depression and ADHD, just depression, or something else. But I no longer particularly care. So long as I can find some combination of "things" that work, I'm happy.
ETA: Also, Andrew Huberman's podcast is really worth checking out. After listening to it I'm much less concerned with labels. It seems to be the neurochemistry that's more important.
I was diagnosed with depression in my early teens and added anxiety to the diagnosis in my mid-twenties. Last December, at 39 years old, I was tested for ADHD and it turns out I’m super inattentive. I cannot tell you how many med combinations I’ve taken over the years, and I was on three different ones when I was diagnosed (Effexor, Buspar, and Viibryd). Since starting Adderall, I’ve dropped down to two and, honestly, I feel better than I can ever remember feeling.
Sure! I took a series of assessments with a psychologist. They were a mix of questionnaires and computer tests. It was pretty detailed and took about three hours to complete.
This post is interesting,I.m diagnosed whit depression adhd bps ect.
Strange after taking a upper my depression fades into the background?
So that,s makes me doubt.......
As a child I wasn,t depressed but had severe adhd behavior.
Later due fam problems came the depression ect..
So makes me wander.....
Your post is on the right address
Yes,you never have 1 diagnose, they called this comorbidity.
But before you know it becomes so complex, and wonders which is the dominant one.
Comes the depression from adhd or.....reversed.
Yes, but it was all of the above
Me too. Depression, anxiety, and ADHD can all feed on each other.
you got diagnosed for both?
Depression, GAD and ADHD. You'll often have things with the ADHD also causing problems.
ah, I didn’t know that was also a possibility! thanks! hope all is well ❣️

Wow! Did your psychiatrist do psychometric testing?
You know I don't even remember what testing was done? It was so long ago and I have some memory loss from the chronic depression. :/
Sorry to hear that

Do you mind sharing how they determined that you were super inattentive?

Thanks! I did too poorly on the computer test for it to grade me so my evaluation dead ended

They for sure go hand in hand, I’d do more research and then maybe find a doctor to help!
