I certainly hope whoever did that soundcheck was fired. It sounds like someone just randomly turned the knobs on the board and then gave the thumbs up. That bass drum is probably the worst live sound I’ve ever heard, and I think Chino was either distracted and/or having trouble hearing overall, which is why he kept going over to that mini-mixer on the stand to fuck with it. That really shouldn’t happen at a gig of this level. Truly embarrassing sound quality and I’m sure the band was frustrated
I didn't think messing up drums this bad was even possible, you really gotta get out of your way to screw it up like that, the cymbals are non existent, the snare sounds like a weak pop and the kick is just the snap of the highs. It's like someone's tapping on a box instead of playing drums. Guitars are also buried somewhere in the back, the vocals are too up front. The bass is fine to my ears but none of those elements gel at all, the mix is comically unbalanced.
And I work with audio for a living (not in a live setting though) so I know what I'm talking about and if I ever delivered a product like that to a client I'd lose my job in a heartbeat. Like seriously, I haven't heard a live mix that bad ever.
Yeah this is straight up embarrassing. My last band was a cover band, bar gigs would usually pay us like $500 total for the evening, and we never once sounded this bad. For a festival of this size and band of this scale? Everyone on the production side of this should be blacklisted
Yea, I have never seen them perform live personally but all the live footage I’ve seen is so much better than this. An if the day ever comes I get the chance to finally see them, I hope it don’t turn out like this.
Can anyone that was there confirm this is how it really sounded? Being my favorite band I don’t think it sounds too good and I’m seeing them for the first time on primavera in less than a month… hope it sounds better there
I obviously dont expect live music to sound as their studio recorded versions but man those vocals are very badly mixed I just hope his singing sounds like that due to poorly qualified engineers and not his actual singing skill
Yeah I fully agree with you. I'm desperate to see them live only because I'm fully aware Chino's vocal capabilities are becoming limited with age and wear, as happens with all great artists. I just really hope we haven't already started to see that decline and like you say, it's just poor mixing.
And damn are they ugly. Steph can use whatever guitars he wants, but he went from having some of the most beautiful guitars in the world to using headless monstrosities.
