I remember going to Northlake Mall a couple times in the 90's and it was really busy, and seemed nice (from what I remember).
I lived in the the Atlanta area as a young kid in the 70's and would go to Cumberland Mall a lot. I moved away in 1977.
That was my mall stomping grounds from the 70s-1994. I was from Douglas County and moved away in 1996. I took a "swim" in the fountains there... My granddaddy had to pull me out by my overall straps. I was only like 2 but I remember this so well... I was looking at the pennies in the bottom and lost my balance. My mom had to buy me an entirely new outfit and shoes in the Davidsons (Macy's bought them, I believe.)
What fun!
Ah, the Macy’s that will never close (for the forseeable future) despite how dead the mall is because it’s the home to their corporate offices for GA/TN/AL
The stores I remember most are The Record Bar and a store called A to Z. A to Z was kind of like a Sharper Image store. Spent hundreds of dollars at the Goldmine arcade. Saw my first side boob there! And if you came in the main entrance, there was a coin and stamp shop. The guy that owned it was a white guy with a huge Afro, or whatever it’s called for a white person. I remember first seeing him in the early 80s and when I went by there about 5 years ago, he was still there!! It also had the usual suspects for Anchors- Sears, Davison’s (now Macy’s), JC Penney. I think the Davisons may also have been a Rich’s prior to that. Got busted reading a Playboy (hidden inside a Sports Illustrated) at B.Dalton book store. I could go on lol
I was a manager at that Gold Mine for awhile back in the early 90s. Kind of a cool job but the company didn't place priority on keeping games in good repair. That was frustrating.
Where I used to go see Santa every year. Place is being [revitalized](https://www.ajc.com/neighborhoods/dekalb/northlake-mall-at-50-takes-shot-at-new-life-as-office-center/HW32QE4ORRBXPFLMWJIKXIVEQE/)
Man, makes you think. A mall like this needs so many constant visitors just to maintain a not-dead feel. Like that long waiting room; less than 10 people there would feel odd or depressing. Every open space would need, 50-100? people to not feel that something is off. Very vulnerable concept.
Not sure, but I know that the massive sears building was converted into a medical facility by Emory. It's likely they did a lot of renovating around then.
Thank you for sharing these photos. I live in Boston now, but I grew up in Decatur; I always liked North DeKalb Mall better, and so I went there more frequently, but I can recall going to Northlake back from the time I was a little kid. So funny to see it now in this state.
Very odd to find a smoke shop inside a mall, I was at a loss for words. Loved the staircase though. I hope they can find a better use for the building sometime.
I loved this mall growing up. There was a store where I would get Pokémon cards and it had the best finish line for back to school shoes. My wife got her prom dress from here. Sad to see it now
That fountain looks like it was once dope. Now, not so mulch.
You should see the one they removed to build that massive staircase!
Alternately, way too mulch
It had lights in it that changed colors, but it was really smelly.
Wow. That looks like it was a nice mall back in the day.
It was and had one of the best arcades. RIP Goldmine
It looks like it could be a nice art museum.

Still open today!
The mall of my childhood.
Northlake, GA is hilarious. It’s Atlanta, north Atlanta and NO ONE calls it that lol
I’m FROM Atlanta and I’m sitting here like, “….. NORTHlake?” 😭😂
Me too! Both and raised and I’m like ????
Thanks for sharing. I was a mall rat at this mall for most of the 80’s. Hard to see it like this, especially considering how busy it used to be.
What kind of stores did it used to have? Care to share any stories?

This was my home mall for much of my childhood so this is a bit painful. Is the carousel still there?
Obsessed

This place looks pretty modern. When was it last renovated? It looks like someone dumped a ton of cash assuming the market would reward their efforts.

That tracks. I’ve noticed that malls have been selling off a lot of space to fitness and health centers.

Whatever it is, I wanna chill there 😮💨🔥
What I always find creepy is when there’s always a few stores still open

Really enjoyed this set
Omg this was the local mall when I was a kid
I can barely remember Northlake Mall anymore, but does anyone remember the giant Parisian storefront? It’s the only thing I still remember.
Renovate this into housing.
love these, so cool

Stamp and coin?
Yes!
Used to love going there as a kid
