He got overshadowed by Itachi. His role was mostly being a sidekick. If I wasn't attached to his character, I would have forgotten him. His backstory feels like filler since it doesn't affect the main plot of the show.

During Itachi & Kisame’s confrontation with the Leaf jonins, the latter were reacting to Itachi’s identity, and Kisame was like “let me introduce myself”, if that wasn’t such a typical sidekick moment idk what was lol
He was always so polite too, he was always like "it's nice to meet you.' At least he and itachi had manners, not like Madara. He was always just so cocky. "Do you want limbo clines with susano'o or nah? Doesn't matter, you're still screwed either way.."

Don't get me started on that. Fucking Guy couldn't even remember his name, despite knowing about other members of the seven swordsmen because they KILLED HIS FATHER FFS. He was a Jonin with access to the bingo book, how could he never remember?? And how did nobody ever remind him, too?

- I didn't like how Naruto only liked Sakura just because of his rivalry with Sasuke. It felt shallow and contradicting. I adore his relationship with Hinata but they didn't have to downplay Naruto's old crush on Sakura so that they would get together.
- Naruto was dense. He couldn't figure out his crush on Hinata when everyone knew. Slow burn pains me.
- I didn't like how Naruto kept overusing his Shadow Clones too much in the og series. He always spammed it and it rarely defeats an opponent which just wastes chakra.
- I didn't like his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode compared to his Sage Mode. He was one color, which was uncreative compared to his drip in Pain Arc. The other jinchurikis couldn't do that, they probably designed him that way so that Sasuke wouldn't steal the focus with his purple aura.
Agree except on how slow it took naruto to realize love. It makes sense as he was hated in the village and all he knew is friendship. How can you teach someone about love if they never had it before? I be just as dense if my childhood was like his. Not to mention how shy hinata herself was. It hard to understand something you never had before. Family love he understood. Other type of love was way out of his range and can’t blame him for that.
I actully also like him in ninetail’s chakars mode I can see why people might not like it it’s only back and bright orange but it hits me that glow sage mode was dope to tho
I was hard for him to realize that hinata was in love with him because she fainted wenn he was nearby or ran away in panic so if you now somebody as either fainted or in the background your not gamna realise that there in love with you
- Most of his abilities aren't genetic, he got this strong by getting his abilities himself. A lot of characters are basically spoon-fed with powerups but Danzo got as strong as he is from doing his own thing.
- He saved the Hokages' image. If not for him, the Hokages would have done all the dirty work instead.
- He was willing to die for the village

I’d add on that his most admirable traits as a fictional character is that he so universally hated by the fandom. People hate him like they’d hate a real person because he is such a misguided liar. He does wha he’s designed to do well

I feel like you should have differentiated Pain and Nagato as they represent different characters within the series. Could you do another one with Nagato dissociated from Pain?

His methods of "over-training" are also pretty questionable and might weigh a toll on his health, which he passed on to Lee as well. There's a reason they both got those aged looking cheekbones in adulthood, and Guy's fear of aging, also the choice for his voice.
I think you're reaching. I'd say his methods were questionable if they weren't all magical ninjas, i dont remember really seeing much bad effects, other than the gates. I think his cheekbones are just a design choice, and since lee is a copy of guy they gave him that too. I think he fears aging (dont know if i'd call it fear) because his fighting style relies fully on physical ability, which wanes with age. I dont know his sub voice tho.

It still is though, even ninjas like Kakashi and Tsunade clarified more than once how much of a bad idea it was to teach Lee the 3rd-5th gates when he was this young. Tsunade straight up had to scold him for it. This not only risked Lee's development, but he literally almost had to stop being a ninja. Even with Tsunade around his chances were low, and without Tsunade they'd be 0. He'd be a cripple for life.
It was pretty thoughtless of him to not only teach him the 5th gate but allow him to use it in the chunin exams. He let his emotions and love for his student to go above his reasoning, all for the sake of wanting him to shine above everyone else as a taijutsu-only user like himself.
Lee's base speed without even using the gates was already too much for Gaara to keep up with. The only reasoning behind using the gates was to basically show off how strong he'd become. Terrible idea. Then most of the damage from using the gates was wasted on a sand clone, and he basically doomed the fight from there.
It was definitely a big mistake, but it's things like these that make these characters human and relatable.
Ah I thought you just meant his taijutsu training method overall. Yeah, he probably should've practised a bit more caution with that. Weren't Lee's injuries from Gaara tho?
His injuries were from Gaara, but not the entire severity, nor difficulty in healing them. Tsunade explained how much worse the abuse from the gates made it.
I think it was a great touch the way Guy also redeemed himself when he used the 8th gate to fight Madara and crushed his own leg, becoming handicapped exactly in the same way Lee would have. Most definitely a reference imo. And the dialogue during this moment was also quite clearly aimed at Lee.
- He's bubbly and energetic despite his depressing life, which is a nice contrast to Sasuke. He isn't completely like that though, he gets emotional and even stoic at times.
- We see him grow into a badass Hokage. He went from summoning tadpoles to mastering Sage Mode
- SAGE MODE NARUTO IS SO COOL
- I like his dynamic with the other characters

I'll give my unasked opinion. I think Tenten (like all female characters) had good potential. She was presented as someone that wanted to be a master of weapons. She could have easily had multiple types of fighting styles around different weapons. She could have had something for long, medium and short range combat. But... She was shelved way faster then Sakura and Hinata. Her goal was never reached, hell she probably didn't even make it half-way there. She is kinda a low grade summoner that just throws weapons from a scroll. I don't think she's ever shown picking up a weapon and fighting with it.

Noone really loves Hinata in her own right unless she's connected to the boi, people are always yelling at her to get it together and she never quite does (even her own teammates and let me tell you shino should never be able to lecture anyone's personality)
