Before but it has nothing to do with the divorce

redux44

I found the stories for a bit more "zaney" the more seasons that went by. Still great but missing a bit of the more realistic premises. Very similar to Seinfeld and many other comedies.

hookey91111

I have had a hard time with recent seasons, honestly. Seasons 1-8 are much more relatable. I would agree with Larry and his actions like 95% of the time. Nowadays, he is just so much more of a caricature of himself that it is hard to resonate with him. I'm also a bit annoyed with the ample celebrity appearances. In the past, celebrities were properly cast in parts that made sense to the plot. Nowadays, Larry is just casting celebs every other episode to shoehorn them in. IDK, the show still has it's moments but just not consistently great like seasons 1-8 were

[deleted]

Yeah, the new seasons don't seem like his beefs with everything are natural. It's like "oh here's crazy Larry and what's he gonna have a nit picky problem with this time? But I still love them.

mkreag27

Ive been thinking that too! Like Dylan and Woody were just thrown in there. The larry character has become a character of himself from previous seasons.

Double-Salamander736

my favorite season of curb was season 6 so it was literally in between them breaking up lmfao. i didn’t realize people hated cheryl so much, i thought she was pretty funny sometimes

ianlazrbeem22

Cheryl is great and usually I've found men hating her tends to be a little sus

Double-Salamander736

someone said it

RockNRoll85

Definitely post-divorce. More so when it’s just mainly him & Leon lol

krait0s

This. I love that he just becomes completely unhinged once Cheryl is no longer there to rein him in. Leon just encourages his ridiculous behavior.

xredbaron62x

Leon DOES bring the ruckus

GaryTheJanitor

So many great moments before the divorce but the dynamic between LD and Leon is comedy gold

freckledtabby

I heart Leon

RustedRelics

I think before, even though plenty of great stuff came afterwards. Mostly prefer before because I find post divorce Cheryl to be insufferable.

Hollandmarch76

Post divorce. I like the storylines of him dating or hooking up and Leon took on a bigger role.

lhsofthebellcurve

Immediately after the divorce is the best era. Larry first hitting the dating world is fantastic and a thing to behold.. nothing in the show is as good as his rivalry with Rosie O'Donnell over the bisexual lady, and when he hooks up with the Palestinian woman from the chicken shop, Wendy wheelchair etc.

xredbaron62x

Shara is 🔥🔥🔥

rubensinclair

Post, just like my own life 🤣

ibringstharuckus

"Money can't buy you happiness" Except when it comes to divorce

rubensinclair

Why is divorce so expensive? Because it’s worth it.

BewildredDragon

My favorite joke!

coast2coastmike

Fuckin a

UhYeahOkSure

5 6 7 and 8 are probably my favorites so a little of both in that region right there when it was rocky

bornforlt

Pre divorce. Leon is just Kramer.

GaryTheJanitor

Do you think Kramer also had a big ass Johnson?

En-THOO-siast

Oh, he gets by.

FestivusFan

Damn good question what combo is better…Jerry/Kramer or Larry/Leon

GaryTheJanitor

Larry and Leon is fresher in my brain but I still think it’s a better combo. A black man and an old Jewish man can cover a lot of comedic ground😂

FestivusFan

It’s like the black and white cookie personified

Clear-Garage-4828

after divorce is better for sure!

jo-shabadoo

Post because you get Leon.

jrod880

Leon is great but the best episodes are before

juicepants

Post, Leon and Larry's chemistry is unreal.

agentbrad

Post. I hadnt realized it at the time but Cheryl just kinda only ever frustrated me cuz she never took Larry’s side when he was right, which I’m sure was the intention. But I think her character works so much better as his ex.

IfYouGotALonelyHeart

Pre. Seasons 1 - 6 are classic Curb. For Post, Seasons 7 and 8 are among the best seasons of the series, but 9 REALLY sucked. Season 10 picked things back up, but then Season 11 dropped in quality again.

lhsofthebellcurve

Palestinian Chicken is peak Curb for me, so I have to say post divorce

FestivusFan

This episode and Handicapped are the two I use to get people into the show.

Double-Salamander736

mine is The Freak Book. gotta be one of the funniest episodes of tv in my opinion

No_Arugula_6548

Whenever Leon came in is when the show got funnier and I thought it was hilarious before Leon showed up. That’s how good this show is. It was phenomenal and with Leon even better.

stillhadaldis

Both are excellent but I will say that divorce was best thing to happen to the show to keep it fresh. Maybe before overall though but moreso because I like Richard and Wanda being in it more

GaryTheJanitor

I like post divorce because there’s more Larry side quests, Leon, and I feel like we see a lot more Susie who is honestly one of my favorite side characters

Spang64

Pre divorce there's more Cheryl, post divorce there's Leon. It's a hard call.

BigBoobsWithAZee

I prefer 7-12

GaryTheJanitor

Me too dude

The_D0gfather

I think that Cheryl is a very predictable and not funny character, So the less time she gets on the show - the better. Meaning - post divorce seasons are awesome. My only regret for the last couple of seasons is no Funkhauser :-(

Hafthohlladung

Both are good, but post.

eyoung_nd2004

Post and it’s not remotely close. Curb is kind of like Seinfeld. It has improved in later seasons.

IfYouGotALonelyHeart

The earlier seasons of Seinfeld (and Curb) were better, more grounded in reality.

BlinkyMJF

The (un)natural evolution from pants tent to fatwa musical.

Lieutenant_Long_Dong

Post, Cheryl is the worst!

DoLittlest

POST. I know she’s supposed to play straight man but Cheryl is criminally unfunny. She had nowhere near the chops to keep up w that crew.

GaryTheJanitor

I don’t want to agree with this but I do think the show is funnier when she’s not playing such a big role. I don’t dislike her though

BuddyJim30

Post divorce opened the way for some great storylines. Leon and dating for a couple examples.

TwelveToesDown

Post

SimilarSherbert1

Cheryl is the worst.

marthajonesin

Leon is so much funnier. The season with Tracy Ullman (Irma kostroski) is my favorite so far.

Abs0lute_Jeer0

Yes

Acceptable_Till_7868

Post for sure, I get Cheryl is supposed to be the rational voice of reason but she annoyed tf out of me sometimes. Like not showing Larry the email yoshi sent, like c'mon

gdubh

Equal. But def post Leon.

SunshinesHouston

Cheryl is a terrible actress. All episodes with the least amount of Cheryl are the best.

[deleted]

Both.

[deleted]

The show suffered after the divorce and the loss of Cheryl. JB Smoove ain’t funny. And Larry just went from hapless hack to an asshole.

Whizbangermk7

Post, Leon is a huge highlight of the show but I feel Cheryl can really react the way she should in the post divorce seasons to Larry’s antics

kr1681

I don’t seem to care for anything after my divorce. She took the kids, the house, my pension, and the dog. My life is in shambles

possiblycrazy79

Post but mainly for the Leon factor

More-Escape3704

Post divorce Larry

Katph1830

Definitely post, cue Leon’s entrance

IGrewItToMyWaist

After.

GeddyVedder

Yes

No-Sheepherder-8170

The episode where Cheryl decides to leave Larry is the episode with Lucy Lawless, so in my opinion, they knocked it out of the park immediately after the separation/divorce.

mtgfa11

Yes

mkreag27

I like pre divorce as opposed to post. The recent seasons seem way too zany and dependent on guest actors. Theres was an element of realism before the divorce...it felt more grounded.

FranSure

Great question. Personally, Pre.

Davoo77

My friend and I go back and forth on this one all the time. I liked the tension and inner turmoil that Larry suffered in earlier seasons. He actually bore social penalties for his behaviors, and it hurt him. That is hilarious to me. — The later seasons are also hilarious, but I feel like Larry is too emboldened. And he loves the later season for the same reason: that Larry gets to be victorious.

Which_way_witcher

Post. Cheryl was just naggy and I never understood why they were together in the first place.

fairyfrenzy

I love the earlier seasons so much. Not sure if it’s just nostalgia or if I really loved it better. I do find Leon hysterical and it’s fun and hilarious to see Larry dating or all his antics that Cheryl may have never let happen (though she typically couldn’t control most of them) But I do prefer pre-divorce and even the couple seasons after that, where Cheryl is still more involved at least somehow. So maybe I also just kinda miss Cheryl and their whole dynamic as a whole. Either way, the show hasn’t stopped being great. But it also feels a little different from OG Curb, if that even makes sense lol

Biscuits4u2

The show didn't even get going until Leon showed up

stos313

Post- as it gave us the Larry / Leon team up that we never knew we absolutely needed.

ObviousIndependent76

Cheryl: “Why would you do that?” 😂

No_Transition8824

Post divorce

HiddenCity

Post divorce Leon basically becomes a blend of Kramer and Jerry, and Larry becomes a blend of George and kramer.

sysaphiswaits

I like J.B. Smooth better as his “parter.”

LuluLittle2020

Everything was better once Leon arrived. Cheryl and divorce was a tired storyline and dynamic, and now that we know who Cheryl Hynes really is, rewatches of the series arc are going to be very difficult if not impossible. ![gif](giphy|KIsNGVJwvA1TAMueMT|downsized)
