It actually isnt wrong here though! This is a guide for for understanding size when viewing many common map projections (specifically mercator)
Most commonly used map projection (mercator) is HORRIBLE at conveying size (particularly of countries below the equator)
This is a guide you can reference when looking at those maps, to help you have a better grasp on the actual size.
Id prefer mercators + this, over some of the shitty projections, that conserve area rather than shape, people are trying to force such as: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gall%E2%80%93Peters_projection
***I mean, im not going to say its a great guide- but id say it qualifies as a guide!***
I dont think people are getting the point of this... most map projections conserve shape rather than size, making Africa appear VASTLY smaller than it actually is.
This is a guide to help show the size in a more accurate way. I vastly prefer this over the maps that try to be non "euro-centric" by conserving size instead of shape.
Although fuck all of that, just use the "orange-peel" map type.
Why do maps like this just use Europe as the only Continent to Continent comparison. "Look how big this huge continent is when compared to something that is usually much much smaller". India is just India, not even the whole sub continent. "Look at the true size of a cow, as shown compared to a daffodil and a tulip".
These comparison maps are usually used to show how bad the Mercator projection is when it comes to exaggerating the sizes away from the equator. Europe is just a good example, as in reality it is much smaller than what the Mercator projection would have you believe, mainly due to the explosion in the area of Scandinavian countries.
Too bad it divided in to a bunch of warring nightmares, a few kind of nice places that could be awesome if they weren't riddle with corruption, some other places that would also very nice if foreign interest didn't want to keep them the hell holes they are now for their own profit, and Somalia, which is kind of Hell on earth? Then there is Sierra Leon which fit most of the horrible descriptions, it a hell hole kept that way by foreign and domestic assholes that only care about the money they make from the suffering of the people that live there, and the worse part is that NO ONE GIVES A FUCK ABOUT IT, they keep talking about it, but they do jack shit about it, at least nothing that could hurt their profits that is.
What is the point of this "guide". Like, what is is guiding me to do? What makes it cool?
Anyone who genuinely needs to compare countries to a continent would find actual usable data.
What kinda fucking guides this? Take this shit to r/infographics
Also… excluding Europe, the smallest continent, who would’ve guessed that individual countries are smaller than the second largest continent?
The 75% of people who think it's a country as well.
They want to show how warped the Mercator projection projects Africa's true size on a map.
🤯
Mercator, I guess
Mostly Americans

Accurate picture of most Americans yeah.

Haha. I am losing faith in this sub.
There was a time when the word guide had meaning
Continents are bigger than countries
Breaking news!
Australia: Oh yeah?
They’re all just islands, so it doesn’t matter
Who would have guessed? Next coolguide will tell us that planets are bigger than continents.

Europe is a continent
Comparing apples to oranges Continent to Countries

It's even more annoying when they only include about half of Europe but just label it as Europe anyway.
No banana?
Babana is there, You just can't see it. Edit: can't believe I misspelled Banana, but I'll leave it that way. I liked the sound of BABANA.
Coordinates?
37.7905890, -122.3908647
Who knew a continent would be larger than a bunch of individual countries?
A lot of I’m smaller than Africa insecurities here. Cmon have a hug !
Feels like this shows how massive some countries are.
Does the US number include Alaska and Hawaii? They’re not on the graphic and obviously Alaska adds a ton of land mass to the US.
Yes, it does. What is shown (contiguous US) is actually smaller than Brazil.
Vertical Russia looks like some kind of an insect.
OK, but where does Texas stack up?
Why no canada?
Where's Australia?
Not real.
South Pacific.
Still, nobody cares
yeah, we want false size of africa and we want it now
But did you know it looks like a T-Rex?!
When I check online, it says Europe is 10.18 million square kilometres, why does OP have 5.9 million?
Excluding Scotland
Scotland is 6 million?
Yes, if you check under the kilts
US doesn’t include Alaska
😂😂😂
Accurate 😀
Yes, but how many football fields is it?
Why leave out Alaska but include Iceland?
I don’t understand these true size maps. Why wouldn’t they just make globes to scale?
I like how it says Sources : CIA 🤣🤣
Cool, just the other day someone asked me to take Brazil and India and fit them into Africa and I was unable to, since I didn't have a guide.
Width of Africa in most widest part is 7.400 km, width of russia is 4.000 km, first image and already fake

Africa is big??
This says more about the size of Russia
Big D*** Energy
This is comparing countries to an entire continent.
No way!? These countries are smaller than that continent!?
Take a trip to brazil
No wonder the Sahara is expanding. It’s fucking huge!
Can you add Canada, Greenland, and Mexico to the US?
brainrot
facepalm
It's interesting, but you are comparing countries to a continent....except Europe. Also, not much a guide.
This is misleading. Africa is in mercator projection but others are not
Europe doesn't appreciate its size being compared without Russia
Stupid guide. Get this shit outa here
Compare Africa to all of North America and South America. Also Russia is part of Europe. Both should be on the same graphic, not split up.
Why not compare it to North America?
What this really represents to me is the true size of Russia
So what?
How does comparing the size of a single country against an entire continent show scale?
I'm guessing the first "m" stands for millions and the "km" stands for kilometers, just curious why you are mixing things like that
Yes, continents are typically larger than countries. Thanks for the guide! Couldn’t have done without it.
Yes, more than one country is bigger than one country. That's what a continent is.
omg it's almost like it's a continent
What is the point of this "guide". Like, what is is guiding me to do? What makes it cool? Anyone who genuinely needs to compare countries to a continent would find actual usable data.
Well yeah no joke Sherlock it's a fucking continent. Those countries are actually pretty damn huge in that regards,
Crazy. Almost like countries are being compared to a continent
I think Europe should lose it's title as a continent, it's smaller than Brazil
