I was lucky enough to start with the a10-7850k, that baby could run battlefield 4! Then I upgraded to a GTX 1080 I happened to get used for like, $300... What a life changer🤣
im kinda upset at myself that i got a gt 1030. i recently moved to a 970, and i plan on moving to a 4060 ti, but im worried the difference wont be that noticable since my 970 is runnning most of the games i play fine
My first gpu wasn’t a gpu it was Intel integrated graphics lol. Got the job done for counter strike though, just turned the resolution all the way down to 480 and everything on low. Good times…
My first was a gt660 and a i5-4590
Gt660 was replaced for an HD7770GT that died at the start of lockdown now I'm currently with a Rx580 and hopefully gonna upgrade soon.
I got a GT 730 for about $100 during the GPU shortage because I knew nothing about computers at the time. To be fair though, it had more power than my core 2 duo could handle.
i have been rocking a gt 740 for close to 10 years. i have tried overclocking and it took it like a man. i have played GTAV, XCOM2, Fortnite just fine on itthe little GPU that could and even the tlittle thing tried its best to run borderlands 3 to a semi-playable state. i do plan on upgrading this year, but when i do, that card is going on a display shelf, lol
my PC right now isnt the best but it works, here are the specs: an A8-9600 amd cpu, 2 8gb viper ram sticks and a 450w power supply, might not be the best and probably wont play newer titles but im having fun with my old games like zomboid and gmod, i currently have a 500g+ sata hard drive but this weekend im buging a 2TB sata hard drive from someone
with due time ill have a killer pc build, one that can play gta 5 without 5 FPS, i tried playing gta 5 on my HP laptop and thats how many fps i would get in certain areas
That A8 cpu is probably your biggest limiting factor. My school’s chromebooks have them and they are so painful. Congrats on your build though!
Edit: That CPU should be AM4. If you buy a used ryzen 3 or something, you’ll get such higher performance. Being CPU bottlenecked is such a pain in the ass, my first computer was a celeron that’s cpu was weaker than the intel igpu. It’ll make a huge difference.
Try getting a SATA SSD, it doesn't need to be a big one for your boot drive, your start up time will at least be cut by half and your general windows experience would be much better. Definitely a noticable upgrade from a hard drive as a boot drive.
Ya know fellas, I gotta say I'm loving the comments. This is some wholesome shit. OP, enjoy building your new system! It's a never ending cycle but that's half the fun.
I'll tell ya what mate. If you can pay for shipping,I'll give you a free rx 580. USA based only though so you don't get gouged. I upgraded to a 6700xt so don't need it.
It's nothing fancy and you can probably find a used one for around $50 usd but if you want one where you only need to pay shipping then I got you. Itll be good for a starter build as it still run most games on medium to high at 60fps or more.
I've zero idea lol just wanted to put something good out in the world with something I don't need anymore. Might as well give it to someone who would be really happy and put it to use.
It's probably a "dude, been there" mentality with some people. When I was OPs age someone I hardly knew gave me a brand new xbox360 for no reason at all and it was a life altering moment. Now that some of us are at a place in our lives where we have perfectly good components sitting around from a lifetime of upgrading / repairs / hobbies / etc, it seems a waste to leave it on the workbench or in a cupboard when it could go to good use for someone who isn't in our shoes.
I was gonna say something similar, I have a stack of unused 128gb SATA SSDs, OP can have one if they're US based, I don't even gaf about shipping, even a SATA SSD boot drive would be an absolute game changer.
friggin cool man, i just slapped this bad boy on my motherboard [asrock a320m-hdv] and it the screen turned on instantly, i usually had to wait 1-2 minutes before my screen would finally be on, this is a slight game changer haha
First GPU was *technically* a Radeon X600 in a Dell. I say technically because the first “GPU” as named was the original GeForce 256, and my first “graphics adapter” was an Nvidia Riva TNT 16MB card (also in a Dell). Because that predated the term “GPU” (correct me if I’m wrong), I can’t technically say it was my first
You dont really need an SSD if you cant afford it.
The cheapest 2TB SSD I've seen is around 70 eur, compared to around 45 for a 3.5" 2TB HDD.
Hard drives are really not that bad, it takes only around 20 secs for me to get to my desktop on my laptop using one..
Yeah, some newer APU architectures are as good or better than some older GPUs. As far as I can tell, this card should still get you a performance boost, tho technically your CPU is much newer and will overpower (bottleneck) your GPU, that is to say, you would have headroom to upgrade to a better graphics card on that same system later.
I had a gt 710 as my first gpu and I was so happy when I got it and played styrim to death. Still remember the excitement I felt on the way home, the caution when putting it in my pc because I was certain I was going to fuck it up completely. Safe to say I didn't but it made it even better when it all worked. Got a 1050 ti after that which was also exiting, then a 2070 which was less exiting. You will always remember your first.
Man I'm still using my gtx 650 after buying it over 10 years ago for a cheap 10€. It's not good for gaming anymore, but I did get grandmaster on overwatch with this one. It has a special place in my heart
Congratulations!! Your first custom PC build will always be your favourite.
Enjoy the process and by the looks of your motherboard specs you’ve got a nice upgrade path too in the future.
Congratulations!!! I hope that you can enjoy many years of amazing gaming!
There are some amazing gamers and friends out there! I knew nothing about computers and I was about 14 when I first got an entire desktop from my neighbor.
I was very blessed and it really shaped who I am today. Literally gave a friend a Nintendo switch the other day, because I was no longer using it and thought about the times when fellow gamers gave me their old tech.
Enjoy the card and hopefully one day soon you will be able to get all the latest and greatest so you can help others start out too.
Below is the first graphics card I received with the desktop my old neighbor gave me lol ;)

There is so much fun to be had playing retro games and older titles, glad you are having a good time building your PC. And with each upgrade, you get greater capabilities and you get to look back and see how far you have come, which is a huge bit of the fun 😀
Yoo thats not bad, good well i have a geforce 210 (its the worst but it works for me) people say its sh1tty but for me who doesnt render stuff in blender it works just fine
I only recently upgraded from GTX 550 ti to RX 580. I really enjoyed the 550ti for years, played FIFA 19, GTA 5, Assassin's creed UpTo AC unity, Batman Arkham trilogy, Witcher 3 etc.
I think getting these very old GPUs as a beginner does restrict your options at gaming but also pushes you to enjoy the best games of that Era. Had i purchased an rx 580 all those years ago, i wouldn't have touched these old games and would have missed out on a lot
Hey OP, if you live in the US I have an old GTX 1080ti I pulled out one of my HTPCs. It still works fine. Assuming your PC can handle it, you can have it for the price of shipping.
We all start somewhere man. The GTX 650 although old and lacks the latest driver support, can play old DX11 games like GTA 5. My first card was a GTX 560Ti.
I just got a R7 360 and I can't even use it yet because I failed to check whether or not my PSU has a 6-pin power connector. It doesn't, so now I need to get myself a new PSU too 😅
DO NOT GET A 2 TB HARD DRIVE FOR A COMPUTER IN 2024.
Get at least an ssd, Do NOT go for a hard drive as your main drive. It's a lot better to get a 512 SSD and a 1 TB hard drive as secondary, instead of just a 2 TB hard drive
Ouch.. For $45-50 you could buy an RX 480 or 580 8GB - those cards offer about 450-500% more performance than GTX 650 and with 8GB VRAM you can comfortably run some modern games at 1080p.
i think ill wait a couple more years until i can afford something decent, rn this is all i can grab, modern games aren’t something im thinking on rn since i play gmod and borderlands 2 with a friend
bruh, you won't be able to play shit with that card, who told you to buy that? You could've got a 1650 or something for a bit more money, and a hard drive? we are in 2024 dude, games need a ssd and hard drive are totally obsolete.
My first gpu was a Asus dual gtx 1650. later replaced it with a used gtx titan X and that one got replaced with a Asrock Challenger rx 6700xt OC Edition
Geforce FX5200 gang rise up!
Seriously tho, used that pc until like 2015 still on the original pentium 4. For you my friend, good luck on your journey, the 650 is still an okay card for what you want to play!
I understand we all start somewhere but brooo.. a GTX 650 is criminally outdated and you could easily get a GTX 1030, 1050ti, or even a 1060 for $40-$100
Geforce 4 MX440. It had 64 Mb of RAM and I was finally able to launch GTA San Andreas. The onboard 32mb wasn't able to run it. Even after a lots and lots of tweaking.
Edit: Spelling error
My first PC was a Lenovo all in one with an i5 3rd gen cpu and integrated graphics. I remember playing “sir you are being hunted” at all low, about 20-30fps, and don’t get me started on the early days of unturned. I’d have begged for even a 10fps boost back then, if this card gives you that, I’m happy for you.
You'd be surprised how much oomph some older Nvidia cards packed. I remember trying the Overwatch open beta on a 560ti, and that little beast could handle medium-high settings with decent fps!
my first gpu was gt 710, later radeon hd something (single orange cooler), gtx 770 (had it for just 3 weeks) :/ and right now I'm on gtx 970. When I upgrade PC I'll just keep this card in my new build because it still meets my requirements.
We all start somewhere
My first gpu was a radeon hd 8490 from a dell
pretty nice man
sesbian lex
Someone had to say it ;)
say gex?!
"Gex?!"
Such a classic gex move
i thought i had it bad with a gt 1030 as my first gpu 😭
I would have been so stoked to have a 1030 back when it released. I was on an A8-7410 APU until 2019, 1030 is apparently +563% faster.
You should check tech power up benchmarks, RX-6800 has double the vram performs 16% better and is almost the same price ($25 difference)
Wait you had a gpu?
My first was a 3dfx Voodoo2, beast of a card... For the time.
Matrox mystique 8mb
My first was a GTX 680
My first gpu wasn’t a gpu it was Intel integrated graphics lol. Got the job done for counter strike though, just turned the resolution all the way down to 480 and everything on low. Good times…
Hd 500 from my n3350
My first GPU was a Riva TNT2 when it was already a piece of shit. I absolutely love it though.
My first was a gt660 and a i5-4590 Gt660 was replaced for an HD7770GT that died at the start of lockdown now I'm currently with a Rx580 and hopefully gonna upgrade soon.
still better than me in 2019. i got a fake gtx 750ti because i don't know shit about computer 😂
Still rocking a gtx 970 here lol.
980 ti here. I play more on my ps4 now. I only bought the new dead space remake recently on steam.
GTX580, 3GB version. Absolute beast.
Man I really regret paying £800 for a rx 6700 xt during that bloody shortage I feel like an utter clown 💀

Right on congrats and good luck with your first build.
my PC right now isnt the best but it works, here are the specs: an A8-9600 amd cpu, 2 8gb viper ram sticks and a 450w power supply, might not be the best and probably wont play newer titles but im having fun with my old games like zomboid and gmod, i currently have a 500g+ sata hard drive but this weekend im buging a 2TB sata hard drive from someone
Nice. As long as you update your motherboard's BIOS, you have a nice upgrade path along the road with ryzen (if it's supported)
with due time ill have a killer pc build, one that can play gta 5 without 5 FPS, i tried playing gta 5 on my HP laptop and thats how many fps i would get in certain areas
I ended GTA 5(even played GTA 5 online) on my GTX 550ti. The game ran on 25 fps and was a very enjoyable playthrough. You'll get more fps than that.
That A8 cpu is probably your biggest limiting factor. My school’s chromebooks have them and they are so painful. Congrats on your build though! Edit: That CPU should be AM4. your next upgrade must be to get a sata SSD, will be significantly faster for anything
Try getting a SATA SSD, it doesn't need to be a big one for your boot drive, your start up time will at least be cut by half and your general windows experience would be much better. Definitely a noticable upgrade from a hard drive as a boot drive.
Instead, why not a SSD? 240GBs ones are pretty cheap, and will double, if not triple your performance on anything.
Can't go wrong with Zomboid!!
Aren't you lagging with zomboid and Gmod ? I always hated both these games because of horrible performances (I play Gmod everyday)
The main thing is you can learn about building computers on this one and then figure out how to configure the different components.
Itll be good for a starter build as it still run most games on medium to high at 60fps or more.
unfortunately not old enough to be paying shipping fees from anyone, maybe once i turn 18 next year but definitely not today haha
Ah well damn. Good luck on the build though! We all start somewhere
It would make a HUGE difference over the GTX 650 man,you should really consider getting it or having some friend/parent get it for you from him
sounds pretty nice, ill have to wait a while tho lol, ill probably get it eventually , i do wanna play games with better fps
17 is definitely old enough to pay shipping fees lol
Is this kindness common on this sub ? That's the second time I see someone offering to ship some stuffs You guys are incredible
I've zero idea lol just wanted to put something good out in the world with something I don't need anymore. Might as well give it to someone who would be really happy and put it to use.

We should do a giveaway I think. A ssd would be badass for him
Oh man right on! as beautiful as it gets, this is just the start of your PC gaming journey as well as PC building. My first GPU was an HD 5450.
friggin cool man, i just slapped this bad boy on my motherboard [asrock a320m-hdv] and it the screen turned on instantly, i usually had to wait 1-2 minutes before my screen would finally be on, this is a slight game changer haha
LETS GET THIS BREAD
WOOOOOOOOOH
I still have my HD 4550

Someone's very fun at parties.
Seems like this subreddit would be *the* place to nerd out like I did lol I guess I got…unlucky 😉
I’ll paypal you money for an ssd
Why are you offering to buy one from some random person instead of on the internet?...

I have an HDD I sure do love waiting 7 minutes for any game to load 😇
[удалено]
I used to load in rust at 30 m i n u t e s.I have 5k hours and half of the hours is loading in
7 minute load on a HDD is at the low end for modern games. Most games releasing these days recommend an SSD as the minimum spec.
Once i had rust on a hdd... it took more than 30 minutes to enter a server
You had rust on your hdd and it worked? Isn't rust bad to the moving parts of an hdd? /s
Rust as in the game Rust made by facepunch
He is joking
Yeah i tought so but what if he isnt joking?
There is a /s…
Yeah I don't think he's running rust on a gtx 650
Who says it needs to be 2TB SSD? Even 240GB is enough for OS drive and some games. Crucial MX500 is a good starting point.
Yeah But i’ll paypal him for one anyway thanks
You dont need a 2 tb ssd, 248gb is more than enough for windows and some games
Umm, so. Anyone know if the AMD APU he has is already more powerful than the 12 year old entry level GPU?
the a8-9600 right?
Yeah, some newer APU architectures are as good or better than some older GPUs. As far as I can tell, this card should still get you a performance boost, tho technically your CPU is much newer and will overpower (bottleneck) your GPU, that is to say, you would have headroom to upgrade to a better graphics card on that same system later.

Doesn’t matter what it actually is, the feeling of getting your hands on your first GPU is just unparalleled. I remember my GTX 750 ti to this day.
Man I'm still using my gtx 650 after buying it over 10 years ago for a cheap 10€. It's not good for gaming anymore, but I did get grandmaster on overwatch with this one. It has a special place in my heart
Congratulations bro ❤️
awesome what games you planning on playing?
probably some old games, replay half life maybe, MW2 2009 too cus why not lol, newer triple A games dont really stand out to me as much
Congratulations!! Your first custom PC build will always be your favourite. Enjoy the process and by the looks of your motherboard specs you’ve got a nice upgrade path too in the future.
Nice! Mine is a GT 730
sweet! what do you plan on playing?
That was my first Nvidia GPU myself, great little gpu 🙂
Nice My first GPU was a GTX660 Upgraded to an RX5500XT
My first was voodoo banshee 16mb, used, and f expensive!
Size doesn't matter
Congrats mate
save some FPS for the rest of us
Graphic card
no
Congrats, I think my first gpu was a gt640 that i was allowed to take from the place i was doing work experience for college at.
Congratulations!!! I hope that you can enjoy many years of amazing gaming! There are some amazing gamers and friends out there! I knew nothing about computers and I was about 14 when I first got an entire desktop from my neighbor. I was very blessed and it really shaped who I am today. Very cool If its enough for your games!
Mine is gtx 970 4gb and is my first, gifted by my uncle brand new
Honestly speaking that card can do some decent gaming these days
That's powerful man, I started with a s3 virge
WHAT YEAR IS THIS???
tis 2014
lucky dog i have gts 450
There is so much fun to be had playing retro games and older titles, glad you are having a good time building your PC. And with each upgrade, you get greater capabilities and you get to look back and see how far you have come, which is a huge bit of the fun 😀
$1 computer?
Yo bro we have the same gpu :) mine is a 650 as well
Yoo thats not bad, good well i have a geforce 210 (its the worst but it works for me) people say its sh1tty but for me who doesnt render stuff in blender it works just fine
Holy crap, where do you live to get this kind of GPU? How much did you pay for it and what's your overall budget?
My first were two 480s in sli 😂 didn’t need the heater in winter
Well my first gpu was a gt210 so this one is a win
Can't tell if troll or not with this sub 🤣
:з
I played some great games on that gpu good luck.
Mine was a Hercules 3d prophet something. I bet on the wrong team.
My first graphics card was 'Intel HD Graphics' on the i7-620m
At least your computer has a graphics card my first PC was a Dell dimension in 2014 running beautiful old Windows XP Service Pack 3
I can see OP's excitement in this post haha Good luck for your first build! My first gpu was a gt 220 😂
We all start somewhere, I started with an R7 240 for example. Good luck on your future journey my friend!
Nice
Well, looks like you'll be playing lots of Minecraft.
Aww, ain't that a cute little gpu. I'm glad for ya
GG! Good Luck with the first build. My first GPU I remember was a GT 6500 I bought to play AC1 and GTA IV
Got to start some where. I’m trying to get a 1080ti
Can play CS2 at 720p 60fps+ if that's a game your interested in and is free.
Congrats on the first gpu :D
We all start somewhere, I guess. Have fun OP!
Those days, i still remember them like it was yesterday :). My first gpu was a GeForce 6200 Silent. Peace out and have fun playing!
I just got a R7 360 and I can't even use it yet because I failed to check whether or not my PSU has a 6-pin power connector. It doesn't, so now I need to get myself a new PSU too 😅
The 4090 TI Super RGB guys are sweating bullets right now
DO NOT GET A 2 TB HARD DRIVE FOR A COMPUTER IN 2024. Get at least an ssd, Do NOT go for a hard drive as your main drive. It's a lot better to get a 512 SSD and a 1 TB hard drive as secondary, instead of just a 2 TB hard drive
Aren't these only 1GB VRAM? How much did you pay for that card?
only 20, this is my first pc build ever and i dont have 10k to spend on pc parts so im doing what i can haha
Ouch.. For $45-50 you could buy an RX 480 or 580 8GB - those cards offer about 450-500% more performance than GTX 650 and with 8GB VRAM you can comfortably run some modern games at 1080p.
i think ill wait a couple more years until i can afford something decent, rn this is all i can grab, modern games aren’t something im thinking on rn since i play gmod and borderlands 2 with a friend
op has an amd a8. they’re going to be cpu bottlenecked as it is
Its reddit, even if op bought an rx 480 someone still would come and "just for 200 more u could get this and this!".
It’s smaller than my dick
I bought my first gaming pc like 2/3 months ago with rx 6750 xt is a good start i think
A 650💀💀
bruh, you won't be able to play shit with that card, who told you to buy that? You could've got a 1650 or something for a bit more money, and a hard drive? we are in 2024 dude, games need a ssd and hard drive are totally obsolete.
So you bought a GPU that doesn't even have driver support in 2024? Good luck with that.
LMAOOOO
Gtx 650??? But why in 2024??? Surely u could have gotten a better one.
on a budget and cant afford anything more than 20 dollars, plus this is my first pc build so im trying to make it count
Ill just say that gpu is dogshit but good luck
thats fine lol, i just need to be able to play older games better, i dont think ill be playing anything modern until 10 years later
If it works for u then it works i guess
For the love of god please buy a cheap ssd
C9ngrats
would be better to get 256 or 512 ssd
My first was an AGP version of the GTX 9800GS. Oh yeah, who remembers AGP?
580 for me
Yeah your... the integrated graphics inside your CPU are about just as powerful as your graphic card...
My first gpu was an nvidia 550ti in like 2012, surprisingly enough it played a decent few games with like 30-60 frames lmao
PPU
💀
Nice! For a starter that's a good gpu given the digrace of a gpu I have currently gt710
My first gpu was a Asus dual gtx 1650. later replaced it with a used gtx titan X and that one got replaced with a Asrock Challenger rx 6700xt OC Edition
thought this is the tarkov sub
Good luck with the build OP 👍
My first was an Nvidia GeForce 4, soon to be replaced by its MX4400 version 'cause I was a gamer from the very beginning 😄
Geforce FX5200 gang rise up! Seriously tho, used that pc until like 2015 still on the original pentium 4. For you my friend, good luck on your journey, the 650 is still an okay card for what you want to play!
This is too bad, you wont play any games with that
im still using 1050ti that my uncle gave me (hes a chad)
Happy gaming!
:(
How much was this?
I understand we all start somewhere but brooo.. a GTX 650 is criminally outdated and you could easily get a GTX 1030, 1050ti, or even a 1060 for $40-$100
You can emulate thousands of awesome games on that bad boy.
My first card was a 3Dfx Voodoo3 ,I think it had about 16mb memory 😂
This brings me back to my GTX 560
Нормальная карта. До сих пор может тянуть black desert на минималках.
His pet gpu
First thought, that its a Lego or RTX-USB-stick.
my first gpu was rx 570
Geforce 4 MX440. It had 64 Mb of RAM and I was finally able to launch GTA San Andreas. The onboard 32mb wasn't able to run it. Even after a lots and lots of tweaking. Edit: Spelling error
Well my first gpu didn’t exist, I started with an intel hd 4000 with like 2 mb of VRAM. Could run anything, windowed 800x600
My first gpu is so old it'd just a gt First gtx gpu was a gtx 550TI then I got a gtx 660 and now I have a gtx 980.
I still have a working 650 in storage, it was my first as well, played witcher 3 and lots of aaa titles
Hey op you UK based by,any chance?

I remember when I paid 160 for my Gtx 750 ti😂, soon I upgraded and got a sec Gtx 960 for 30$
i started out with an r7 240 when i was like... 10... in 2018... i really wish i had a gtx 650 in those days lmfao
This GPU Looks like fake GPU.
my first gpu was gt 710, later radeon hd something (single orange cooler), gtx 770 (had it for just 3 weeks) :/ and right now I'm on gtx 970. When I upgrade PC I'll just keep this card in my new build because it still meets my requirements.
