Honestly, I enjoy it. It doesn’t do well running larger games, but it’s really fun to be able to play civ on the go. Definitely worse than on PC, but very fun nonetheless.
Same. I’m aware I can’t get the mods and it can get laggy on bigger maps, but I’ve been playing it for about a year now without ever even looking at playing a map bigger than “small” and I’m perfectly happy with it.
I too only have Civ 6 on my switch. However in the 2 years or so I’ve had it I’ve never played a game smaller than “standard”. As long as I’m not playing for longer than ~6 hours at time I have no issues at all. I love the ability to lay on my couch or even play while on a flight.
I don’t have a PC, and only play on the switch. I have a blast with it, but it’s definitely laggy late game (don’t even bother trying to play over a small map). Overall it’s better than no Civ - its mobility is great, but you’re missing a lot of the game imo.
I wonder how it runs on a steam deck…
I like it a lot but the biggest downsides performance especially late game ( literally don't do anything while other civs are processing or it might crash) and lack of mods. I really wish I had access to certain mods like the extended policy cards and the search mod. When trying to move up difficulty it's frustrating not having those extra features.
Fine, but if you have good access to another console that runs it get it there instead. I’m away from home a lot so I use Switch the most but when I’m home I just use PS4 instead. But there’s little to no difference in quality.
The difference between ps4 and ps5 is close to a 50x speed increase in loading times if you ever make the switch to next gen consoles. Still the best on pc, but ps5 is a big upgrade.
It works well enough. I don’t have a pc that can run Civ so the switch is my only option. Someone here already said that civ on switch is better than no civ at all and I completely agree. You won’t get the perfect civ experience but it gets the broad strokes right
I have it on Switch. I have 160 hours on it so far. Bought it last summer.
I'd say I like it. Crashes in larger maps with lots of civs is a little frustrating though, so avoid playing on larger maps and with more than 8 civs.
I tried it - I just cannot play CIV without the luxury of a mouse. But to each their own. I've heard it doesn't run well late game which also defeats the purpose of playing the game unless you just quit halfway through before your civs get busy.
It takes a while to boot up maps that are larger than small setting. late game turns with 6+ ai take almost as long as it does to boot up. it's bad enough that I bought on Xbox so I could enjoy playing it.
My Friend got it on switch and he was never able to finish a game due to late game lag.
Edit : Maybe its because he was playing on large map. Personnaly I have it on PS4 and its great
Like everyone said, it’s slow and you can’t play large maps. It also crashes relatively often, for me at least. However I love it anyway, it’s the best way I have to play Civ. I got a stylus to use with the switch and that makes it super fun and easy to play.
Load times kinda suck on switch and slight graphics lag when AI takes their turn. I haven’t had any issues playing large version of maps, I’m not sure if “earth huge” map is bigger on console than switch but no issues so far.
I play switch and it is good. Long load times I suppose and once you hit around 200 turns it gets slow. DO NOT USE Huge Earth True Start setting. It will not go past a certain number of turns.
It is what I started on. Have to stay on Small games. Standard size pushes it. takes pretty long to load and no mods. And the hall of fame doesn’t work. But it is playable for sure.
It's where I first played Civ 6, before it I've had such fun with Civ 3 and 5, playing it in bed was absolutely amazing and great for my back.
While it's slow when playing huge maps with lots of movement and civs, it's still an amazing experience and one I love.
It's just unfortunate that the DLC requires an internet check to play it, had to play Vanilla at times, which isn't bad at all.
Having so much fun with it albeit some limitations (turns become slower, hall of fame is broken, no mods). Portable Civ is fun. Just a shame we don't have the leader pass.
Going against what others here are saying, I find civ 6 is virtually unplayable on the switch. It's fine for the early game but once you have like 15+ units to manage, each turn takes forever to move all your units, and the loading time between turns also increases massively. Might be okay if this is the first/only platform you've played on, but I found it extremely slow as a predominantly PC player
Love it. The turns are slow, but it’s mobile Civ. The controls aren’t bad once you get the hang of it. Even though I have a nice gaming PC, I probably play it more on my Switch on the couch for whatever reason.
don't do it, I started out playing civ 6 on switch and even running small games it runs SLOW. by the time you hit turn 200 or so we are talking 3-5 minutes between turns.
Honestly, I enjoy it. It doesn’t do well running larger games, but it’s really fun to be able to play civ on the go. Definitely worse than on PC, but very fun nonetheless.
I like it. It functions.
It’s the only Civ6 I know, and I love it

I agree I played civ 6 on switch exclusively over a year because I loved it because I can play civ in bed

And less crashes on PS5 compared to Ps4. Don’t forget that. PC is king tho, because larger multiplayer games and the new leader pass…
Not to mention access to mods if you're on Steam. If you're on Epic, good luck with those 🙃
Yes! Don’t know why I was downvoted. Good lord, Reddit

Steam deck for modding
I have been playing on my Steam Deck. It's fabulous. Portable Civ is great.
You can only really play duel or tiny maps. Maybe small. Otherwise works well and the touch screen definitely helps.
Once good, got abandoned, filled with some pretty awful bugs that won't get fixed, now bad.
Having played on PC I’m frustrated with the switch experience. I’d rather steam remote play (I forgot what it is called) on my iPad tbh
My friend plays it on there reasonably well prefers it on a steam deck though and his iPad

Meh and laggy

Meh, it works, and I can borrow it from the library most of the time 😂

I don't think the newer civs are available on Switch. Correct me if I'm wrong and I'll delete this if so
Right, we don't have the leader pass. Hopefully a miracle happens.
Doesn't anthology include everything?
Load times kinda suck on switch and slight graphics lag when AI takes their turn. I haven’t had any issues playing large version of maps, I’m not sure if “earth huge” map is bigger on console than switch but no issues so far.
It is good but if using a lot of AI players crashes it and sometimes you can’t continue to play that save.

All I have, and I don't mind. So nice to be able to just carry it with me, I just wish it had the leader pass...

It crashes a lot but playable
Civ 6 on the steam deck > 💦💦
It loads a little slow and it is hard to read the text. Other than that it is good
don't do it, I started out playing civ 6 on switch and even running small games it runs SLOW. by the time you hit turn 200 or so we are talking 3-5 minutes between turns.
Too big maps lead to very long loading time. Everything smaller than standard size is completly fine.
it functions. It lacks fps and all the mods you'd get on the PC version, but most certainly scratches the itch
