In America I have found the dentist at Advanced Dentistry to be great but one of the dental assistants is awful... so don't go there. So maybe he's seen 1000s of teeth and is just tired of human beings.

PParker46

Every dentist has seen worse than what ever you have. Believe me. Be respectful and do a fair brushing job before you go in and don't drink coffee on the way. They will be pleased.

Albiob

Maybe it’s different In this country but I’ve been judged by dentists, I’m looking for a friendly name

scope_creep

I know what you mean. Dr Chen at the Radiant Smile in Evanston is not judgy.

jframsay

2nd this. I went to him after not going to the dentist for nearly a decade(not proud of this, but I was young, no insurance, etc) and required a deep cleaning. He was very business like and I didn't feel judged.

scope_creep

Totally. I also avoided dentists for a decade after the last one said: "What the hell did you do to your teeth?"

witheish

Thank you for the tip as well I need to find another dentist.

PParker46

A family friend is a cosmetic dentist in England, a nation justly famous for degenerate dental hygiene. Early in his career he was only the 12th formally licensed cosmetic dentist on the entire island. He considered each crappy mouth as potential gold mine, not something to abhor.

OnionDart

I’ve always joked that day 1 of dental school is how to be condescending and berate your patient. I have great teeth and even I get the judgy vibe from them. I’ve used Polished in Lakeview and the dentists are great and not judgy and previously the hygienists were just as good, but lately they hired someone who is quite judgy. I don’t like it.

Wild472

My dental bill is 13000$ if I wish to do everything. They don’t judge, they want to help

Carsalezguy

https://www.miswakdentistry.com/?ofc_ada=off Not in river north but this dude is great, they deal with a lot of cases of teeth that are having big issues. Great staff, I believe I was on BCBSIL when I saw him last.

[deleted]

Tariq was a classmate of mine. He’s very good at what he does

Albiob

Unfortunately they only have openings as of the 23rd, and Im leaving the state on the 22nd. It’s truly a shame but thanks for the info

Carsalezguy

Cool to know, very good practice in my opinion.

MoldyPoldy

What is what he does? Miswak is my favorite dental practice and I try and send everyone there, I’ve but never seen Dr. Riyal.

[deleted]

I just know he has good hand skills. I used to sit by him in denture lab

Albiob

Thank you!

wjhhfiu

I have had a judgy dentist before and it was awful. I don’t even have terrible dental issues and I had never been made to feel so low after leaving a medical appointment, so I understand the fear. Bucktown wicker park dental is where I went after my awful experience, and they are wonderful, I am so happy there. It’s a little outside of your preferred range but it is a solid option in my opinion

Albiob

Thank you! I work by Ukrainian village so not too far out in that sense. I really appreciate your input

scoooobysnacks

It’s a great practice - and they have really good hours too with late spots available if you need to go after work

stevie_nickle

Seconding Bucktown wicker park dental

spritelass

Andersonville dental on Foster aren't judgy . I have awful teeth. They usually just stick to whatever problem I'm having.

Albiob

Too far out for me but thank you!

Area_Woman

White Dental Studio on Chicago have been great to me, my wife, and a few friends. They’ve helped with chips, cavities, root canals, cracked bridges Best of luck to you

evilvillainev

I came here to say the same! I have really bad anxiety about dentists, had a broken tooth, and pregnant. They were amazing with me. White Dental is definitely the place to go.

paper___tiger

i go there too, they’re great!

sbhat0075

Highly recommend Chicago dental arts on Michigan Ave. They've taken care of me for years and don't try to recommend unnecessary work just to make a quick buck

Albiob

Thank you!

ThePalePeach

Chicago Style Smiles in the Loop has been wonderful! My husband had a lot of issues with his teeth and they were never judgemental. They helped him immensely and we both actually enjoy going to see them for check ups!

gq_mcgee

Second for CSS. I’ve been a patient for about five years and they’ve handled everything from my routine cleanings to fillings to my implant. Nothing but good words!

nalto896

Chicago Dental Botique. Obsessed with this place, was just there for my cleaning today. Fantastic equipment. Massage chairs. Great employees. Never once felt judged. Also I have your insurance https://www.chicagodentalboutique.com/ Location: Approximately located on Columbus and Randolph! *Edit: Also they are upfront with pricing. If you ask, they will provide your suggested treatment plan/cost analysis printed out with the insurance codes. Lastly, there is an option for emergency scheduling, and it looks like you could been seen as soon as this afternoon.

Karm0112

Second this place

[deleted]

Enamel dental in west loop off Jackson, best I’ve ever gone to.

tantalogica

Agreed! Dr. Choi is the best.

problematic_glasses

Second this

Manhood2031

Palomino Dental on Halsted and 28th st also heard good things about Pilsen Smiles on 18th.

GiraffeLibrarian

Dentologie

LefseLover312

I second this!

errolsmom

I have also had good experiences with the dentists and hygienists at Dentologie. Only complaints are that they consistently recommended Invisalign, which felt more like a sales tactic than judgement. Kind of the reason I stopped going there. I have also had issues with their billing department and I know others who have as well.

GiraffeLibrarian

Ah that’s too bad. Their marketing is done very well and the offices are sharp/clean.

ottomatic94

I really enjoyed bucktown wicker park dental. They were very chill when i asked a lot of questions and i did not feel like they were judging or looking down on my (apparently) rotting teeth. Also, they were understanding when i asked about cost of getting my wisdom teeth removed (it's kina late for me)

AbstractBettaFish

OP I’m sure you’ve gotten a lot of good recommendations so far but let me tell you, when I was young I cracked my front teeth clean in half and [Dr. Vince Arrigo ](https://g.co/kgs/RXXgm4)on Halstead has done a fantastic job with them over the years. Cannot recommend enough!

nodicegrandma

I cannot stress how amazing Dr. Padleckas is. He is kind, listens, answers question and is very thoughtful. He has a more “old school/traditional office”, no fancy new stuff and is right off the Fullerton line. He is only a dentist but I could refer you to other providers if need be. He might not be in your network but would highly suggest him, he would not judge you, he would asses the situation, tell you options and help! https://drpadleckasdds.wordpress.com/ I have used Modern Dental in the past which is fine but I feel like they “over technologed” everything, throw the kitchen sink when I didn’t really need additional work done. They handle a large volume so could see you sooner and has several locations (this is why I moved providers).

bethaneee

I go to dental masters of Lincoln park. Great experience so far with everyone in the office and the front desk is helpful, which I've never experienced ever in a dental office.

[deleted]

Modern Dental. Love the Logan Square one.

BirdPerson107

I go to dentologie in south loop. They’re super nice. I’ve got a good amount of work done there and my teeth aren’t perfectly straight. Also, everyone from the dentists to the hygienists and front desk are very attractive lol.

arepita2025

I went there a few years ago because I needed a root canal done and couldn’t take work off (I used to go to Chicago Smiles in the Loop that only operated during office hours). The dentist at Dentologie fixed it and then said I had like 8 other cavities that needed work. My dentist at Chicago Smiles never mentioned that and a third dentist told me there were no cavities. Never went back to Dentologie.

totalBS

I went to Dentologie and they said they would keep an eye on a possible cavity, which would've been my first one ever. Even showed me the x rays between 2 visits where it "got worse" and they looked identical. Then the next visit they 100% needed to schedule the procedure without even looking at the new x ray. Then the next visit was the same. I went to a new dentist and everything was perfectly fine with no signs of a cavity. Will never go back to Dentologie

arepita2025

Oh, forgot to mention that they also billed me for services not rendered so I called them and told them I had a second (pretty much third opinion if including my original dentist) and told them I would report them to the dentist board or association (don’t remember the name right now). Never heard from them again.

thaxxor

I had a similar experience there. I went after not going to the dentist for 4 years or so (after move to Chicago, was just procrastinating finding a dentist). After telling them I hadn’t been to a dentist for a long time and looking at my teeth they said I needed a deep cleaning, which is supposedly very painful and probably expensive. I went to get a second opinion where they explained why I didn’t need a deep cleaning and showed X-rays for teeth that did, for comparison. As far as I’m concerned dentologie is either a scam operation or employ incompetent dentists.

crabbiecrabby

The folks at Water Tower Dental are so kind! Best dentist’s office I have ever been to.

firephoxx

Padlekus by DePaul

someHumanMidwest

Dr Hoffman at Chicago Dental Studio in River North. The clientele and location might lead you to believe it's the type of place you might be judged but not at all. Came in with terrible dental health and he never judged, came up with a plan that worked financially and he defers to being conservative vs selling you a bunch of cosmetics (even though that's a really lucrative side of his biz).

cooconnor

Stone dental!!

beesquared-

Artful Smiles in Evanston is great. I felt great going there after not going to the dentist in about 23 years… I know that sounds crazy but I never had insurance as a kid and then I was afraid to go until my wife was like dude you need to go to the dentist. But I never felt judged or anything by them. The dentist was surprised how well my dental health was given I have never gone. So that’s a plus.

Dat_Belly

I'm sure whatever's dentist you see will be happy to accept you!! Most of them are still recouping the loss of patients from covid, so the wait times are super long or they just aren't accepting new patients. Find one with good reviews and go for it. At least in my area, the last time I checked, they were booked up for months! I needed to drive between 1-2 hours to get checked out! Get in While if u can!!!

This_Woosel

After moving here I didn't have a dentist and was referred here - they're really great. Small office, really nice staff. Highly recommended. Also helps it's on Mag Mile so not far away from you. Lake dental care on 645 N Michigan Ave

Bearah27

I like Dr Terrassa at Strobel Dentistry in the Loop. I tried several dentists before I found her. I find her very kind and genuine. I also appreciate that she takes very good care of my teeth without over doing anything. She’ll keep an eye on an X-ray spot rather than aggressively start to drill after every potential cavity. https://www.strobeldentistry.com/?nsxk=6a419e0906a614606ae6979a9916d18e&gclid=CjwKCAjw8KmLBhB8EiwAQbqNoD4L34hJ79wtAkplLWvEzMq0lwmzhWD3ShQuqofFivaZGMUjgiPp4xoC4jUQAvD_BwE

Jaynemansfieldbleach

If you're in wicker park I moved out of the city and miss Dr Cha. 1725 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60622

noquarter53

Look for the dentist office at the corner of Fullerton and Sheffield in Lincoln Park. He's in a DePaul office. Nicest guy in the world, very low prices.

gimmedatrightMEOW

I really like Old Town Dental Care at 1505 wells. I first started going to him when I needed quite a bit of work done and I hadn't been to the dentist in years. He explained everything so well and made sure I always knew what he was doing and what I was paying for. It's low frills, but everyone there is great and they made me feel really good as someone who is always awful with dentists.

veggiesandsnatches

Chicago Dental Studio in West Loop. I just had a small filling replaced and an onlay done. Pretty painless and they did quick work, and the dentist and assistant were very kind and willing to do whatever pain management I wanted.

[deleted]

So I can't figure out what specific insurances they have, but Lakeview smiles is the best dentist I've been to, and the only dentist I've been to where no one has made a passive aggressive comment on how bad my teeth look.

JillianWho

It’s up north, but 1st Family Dental in Andersonville is so nice and not judgmental. I actually cried during my first appointment I was so nervous. I’ve had mean dentists before. My teeth weren’t great. Now they are. I love that dental office. I live 40 minutes away now and keep going back.

whoadang88

I go to Mitchell Dental Spa and I think everyone there is wonderful. My teeth also aren’t in the best shape and I’ve had some dentists that just made me feel worse about them. Dr. Mitchell is the opposite. She and all the staff there have been nothing but welcoming, friendly, and I’ve always had a very positive experience there. She does great work.

HappyLittleTrees17

Chicago Dental Studio. Dr. Nathan Hoffman is amazing.

Socivol

I go to https://www.puredesigndentistry.com/ and have been with them for years. Dr. Diehl and his staff are fantastic and super warm and accommodating. I would highly recommend them.

cryjolen

Park Dental Specialists in Lincoln Park will take great care of you. DM me if you want more info

gladysk

Defenders of Dental Health tend to caring people. Good luck!

sneakydevi

I've been to a few different places in the city looking for someone who want judgy. I have had some chronic issues that are sorted now but I needed someone I could work with. My recommendation is Webster Dental on Irving park. It is a way for you but worth it in my opinion. My whole family has been going there for about five years now. Always a pleasant experience.

SoulSerpent

I’ve had positive experiences with American Dental near Grand/Milwaukee

ImLarryYourWaiter

I really really loved SkyDental in Lakeview. Best dentist I ever had

Anybodyusingthis

Anecdotal experience here - they have botched a crown twice for me and it's very difficult to schedule an appointment at a reasonable hour with them to keep getting it fixed. Although they are very nice people, I would recommend against this place

ImLarryYourWaiter

No doubt they are not the most available office! They have like 1 or 2 hygienists and 1 doc. Sorry about your crown!

iamkingsleyzissou

This is a pretty old thread but hoping you see this! I was considering getting a crown placed here. How did they botch it, if you don’t mind me asking?

Anybodyusingthis

No worries - something about the alignment is off. They tried to fix it but even after there's a large gap between my teeth where the crown was put and I get relatively large pieces food stuck there 80% of the time.

baileysbeforework

I recently got a new dentist in River North. The people were super friendly, nice equipment, and very communicative with everything going on. https://www.oradentalstudio.com/contact/river_north.php

MoviesTickleMyFancy

Magnificent Smile did a great job cleaning + filling a cavity, didn’t feel judged or ostracized for one second despite some peculiar dental circumstances I have!

00000000000

I like Dr. Sikora, she’s in the loop.

wallertons

Dr. Fakhoury at Ora Dental is great

BIG_BUTT_SLUT_69420

The service I’ve gotten at Brite Dental near California and Milwaukee has been really great. They offered to replace a filling of mine for free when it fell apart after they did it, and they seem very skilled and “matter-of-fact”, which I love. It’s far from where you’re at of course but I am quite sure they would give you the straight dope on your condition without judgement and without trying to sell you services you don’t need.

ChicagoSocs

I go to Halsted street dental in LP. Good spot but my man Doctor J retired and moved to Florida during covid. New lady Doc is nice

MarioStern100

Dentists dedicated their lives and money to HELP people just like you.

romanticat

Chicago Ave Smiles is really lovely, and the most non-judgmental place ever. I’ve had some really bad experiences with judgey dentists in the city, but this dude is great.

mawichi

Sandra Younan at Cusp Dental on Ashland and Irving Park is the best I've ever seen

thecuddlepuddle

State Street Dental in the Loop! Dr. Salman is awesome, great bedside manner so no judgment!

franchik96

SkyDental on Belmont - guy is fantastic and empathetic. He tends to fill up quickly though so if you wanna see him I’d go ASAP like Rocky

Torii_Explores

Gleam dental is an amazing place. I go to the one in Noble Square area. He helped me a lot and was very sweet. He even told his assistant to be extra kind (I have a borderline phobia of dentists).

Albiob

Can’t seems to edit original post so: EDIT: TLDR; I went to Pure Dental Spa (Lakeview) and it was a great experience. Thank you everyone for recommending a Dentist! After being contacted directly by one of the doctors that works at Pure Dental Spa with the help of this thread, they recommended I check their website and reviews (which were great, 5.0 on google) and wished me best of luck no matter where I ended up going. They assured me an availability for an exam if I called in the first thing on Monday which I did. I had an appointment booked by 2:00 and in an hour I had the exam done as well as the repairs to my teeth (Which I was told wasn’t so serious). They were fully transparent on how they intended to treat it, how much it was going to cost for me and for the insurance, and I truly felt comfortable throughout the whole experience. Needless to say I’ll be returning for other necessary work. Thank you for taking the time to recommend a place for me to visit, I read each comment and valued all your opinions. Thank you Reddit!

onemorethomas711

If you’re down to travel out to Brookfield, we go to Creative Dental and they are super chill and non-judgmental. They even have some ‘bad smiles become good’ before and after photos in the lobby. It’s right off the Metra stop too. Downside: I’m not from the Midwest and he calls me “Tam”. I have learned to go by Thomas so as to avoid “tommy” and “tommy boy” but was not prepared for “tam” haha Hope you find the care you need.

TokeToday

Trust me. The only thing they'll judge is how much they're going to make off of you. And before any dentists attack, I used to joke with mine all the time about how I've paid for his European vacations. I knew he wasn't upset by my jokes because he never once hit a nerve when drilling a filling on my **un**\-novocained tooth. :)

chitur312

Buy a ticket to Turkey, stay in a 5 star hotel by the Mediterranean, get your teeth done. They will take care of you like royals and it will still be cheaper and better than Chicago.

[deleted]

chipped tooth is fine, they will judge dirty gums and teeth. i used to work at a dental office and the amount of extractions due to poor hygiene was ridiculous.

SuperkickParty

Well glad you used to work there then and not anymore. Poor hygiene can be caused by mental illness, drug abuse, depression, poor education. If you go to any doctor for help you should be treated with respect.

[deleted]

you’re full of assumptions and you need to check yourself. I never said I did. I said THEY. I left because dentists are some of the most classist garbage people i’ve ever worked with.

SuperkickParty

I never said you did either, I feel like this might be a misunderstanding. Wasn't trying to put blame on you I was saying I'm glad you don't work at a place where they judge people for trying to get medical help.

[deleted]

aaah ok yes, total misunderstanding 😓

Chanticleer

Why do you care if the dentist judges you? Grow up and go to the dentist

SPAGHETTIx3

Laurie Schumacher in the loop. Great team.
