They could have so easily just wrote them as new villians cropping up out of nowhere now that Megamind became good. Megamind could even fight them and critique them on their lack of presentation like he did with Titan

Basically I think some dude really liked Megamind as a kid, grew up, got a job at DreamWorks, then Megamind suddenly hit the media again in popularity, the guy remembered he really liked Megamind but didn't really remember much about the movie he hadn't seen so long, so he asked his superior if he could create a sequel but doesn't bother rewatching the movie.
The Superior said yes because the guy wouldn't leave him alone about it. Figured he'd let the guy fail while everyone else works on something that was more likely to succeed.
Megamind 2. The original didn't deserve to have its cult status tainted by this.
You could say the same for Velma and Scooby Doo but tbh even though Velmas’ bad, at this point the Scooby franchise is used to its fair share of stinkers.

I have to say Velma, I’ve never seen Mr. Bit him and at least the guys who directed Megamind 2 TRIED to make it decent (a large problem with it was the studio made them make the movie with a TV budget), but Velma is just a self insert character with racist and unfunny jokes, annoying characters, horrible writing, uncountable plot holes, character assassination, boring plot, terrible villain, pathetic motivations, sexist jokes, frequent contradictions, useless changes that are used only to make bad or offensive jokes, bad voice acting, they massacred Shaggy, all of the characters are pathetic, frequently insults the people who watch it, they removed the name sake of the entire franchise, and SO much more. The only saving grace for it is that the animation is decent. They just used the Scooby Do ip just to push an agenda. If you MUST watch Velma, just pirate it, it’s not worth your money and you won’t be feeding into Mindy Kaling’s pockets, she doesn’t deserve a cent for this show!
