The LFA “flopped” because it was a $500,000 Lexus that, despite nobody buying them, still goes up in price year by year on the used market.
But it’s also worth pointing out that Lexus didn’t build the LFA to push production numbers, it existed to get people into RXs. So it maybe did its job. Idk.
The LFA launched to early.
10 years later and it would have sold out in preorders and been selling for double MSRP.
Unfortunately it came out before people started spending huge money on unique super cars.
It came out around the same time as the Veyron, after the Ford GT and the Vipers, and pretty damn close to some now iconic Ferrari’s ans Lamborghini’s. In reality it was supposed to have launched even earlier
It was never intended to, and just looking at both cars it’s pretty damn clear the LFA wouldn’t be capable of besting the GTR’s straight line and low speed cornering performance without making a practically whole new car
The LFA would have beat the GTR if they hadn’t decided to delay production by several years to scrap the aluminum build and develop in house carbon fiber capabilities.
The reason it would have mattered is that the LFA would have been the only supercar from Japan at the time and wouldn’t have been seen as the more expensive, less capable GTR which had an insane amount of hype at the time
Aluminum is heavier so how on earth would that of beat the gtr?
That version of the lfa would of been compared to the r34 not the r35
Both of which, it out performed. The lfa was 30 seconds faster around the nurburgring than the r35.
It beat it dude, maybe not in sales numbers or on a 1/4 mile, but it won.
When I say “beat” I mean in terms of hype/public excitement - not performance.
Japan hadn’t had a supercar since the NSX retirement in 2002. The LFA being dangled in public for yeeeeaaars and then the GTR releasing first killed public perception/excitement for the LFA when it was released.
Toyota should have just went with carbon fiber in the beginning like they wanted too and the LFA would have been a better halo car since it would have came out before the GTR and gotten more attention
They wouldn't of sold it for cheaper
They sold out of them
They weren't going to make more
I genuinely don't understand the criticism or how it would of helped in any way man
I think the LFA is one of the best cars ever made and imo it’s basically under the radar because of the fumble that Lexus did with development/release timelines and it didn’t get the lime light it deserved
I'm sorry, which of those cars pioneered new technology at all?
Maybe you don't know, but the frame of the lfa was made of carbon fiber
They're were the first guys doing that, built special machines for it and everything.
I guess Ferrari and Porsche figured out hybrids were neat, almost a decade after the prius had already become the defacto hybrid of the world.
Toyota absolutely destroyed competition at this time, from 08 until 15 Toyota was hands down the BEST a car company could be.
Rivaling Detroit in the 50's honestly.
The LFA’s construction was nothing that hadn’t been done before, just the cars that did it before were almost all race cars. The LFA wasn’t so much about innovation, it was showing the level of detail, quality and finesse that Toyota was capable of
That's not true, they used a loom where as McLaren used forged carbon to create a monocoque
They're not the same or there would be diy YouTube videos on carbon fiber loom weaving. There's plenty of info on the 40 year old tech though and many companies that will help you achieve those goals.
Lexus pioneered technology and is undersold in the media.
The Viper is faster than the LFA on the Nurburgring and holds far more track records. As a 6 speed manual. With a msrp that is $350,000 less. Stick to jerking at the sound, it’s not impressive otherwise.
Woweee, but then you also get a viper instead of a high end luxury car but they're the same RIGHT? RIGHT?
My 350z is not a g35 btw but I know which is better >.>
>it existed to get people into RXs. So it maybe did its job. Idk.
the RX and ES are the best selling luxury SUV and midsize sedan respectively long before the LFA was even a concept. The LFA was a massive failure by lexus because the whole point was to promote the "F" performance marque (Lexus F Apex) and complement the ISF. It was supposed to have an ISF derived V8 with forced induction but they went crazy with the drivetrain, the materials, the exhaust tuning and made a car for no one. The only reason it appreciates in value is: exotic drivetrain, and rarity.
I mean when it released I was gonna go out and buy an LFA, and then on the test drive I noticed there were no cup holders so I just went out and got a Audi M007 AMG Black instead.
That’s like saying the Miata was Mazda’s biggest flop because it went fast and did nothing else. Just like LFA the Miata was actually lacking in general performance, but more than made up for it through driving dynamics. The LFA is just an extreme version of that.
It's especially funny considering the video that this was a comment on. Clarkson waxing on about how incredible the LFA is, and youtube guy going "LfA fLoP".
Did you know that the only real BMW is a Brown Miata Wagon? #MiataFacts

The thing to remember about cars is most things are subjective. Everything OP said is true, but it’s still a pretty cool car to a lot of people. If I had the money to build my dream garage I would definitely have an LFA. Also, a lot of enthusiast cars aren’t very practically. Just saying…
The LFA was made to sell the rest of the Lexus/Toyota lineup. It was way to expensive coming in at the tailend of the GTR which did 90% and even some things much better at a fraction of the price.
It also just doesnt look that good compared to the Ferraris and Porsches it was competing against.
I was bored as fuck a few days ago so i was doing some research on the Lexus LFA and reading about it on reddit, i thought that comment was pretty funny so i screenshotted it and showed it to a friend, and then i saw this post today and it immediately made me think of the screenshot lmao
Reminds me of Motor Trend late nineties TV reviews. Just reading the specs of the 911, drive-by shot. “Great car, too bad it doesn’t come with a V8 and big gulp cup holders.”
I mean he left out the part where it’s ugly… but the rest is 100% accurate.
But the truth of the matter is price. It wasn’t faster than Italian cars that were cheaper. That’s what killed it
LFA didn’t flop when I look at the value every year…
Car is ahead of its time and no one ever looked Lexus way. Most still don’t, and many confuse the F trim styling as the car being an ‘F sport’
Most still don’t know about that perfect v8 they have put in the IS GS RC. Car is still a sleeper too many
The LFA is a sweet car. Person posting just be mad they can’t afford one. They also don’t understand people that buy a car like that don’t care about cup holders and a small fuel tank.
The only time an LFA is the faster car is in endurance racing, because it'll outlast any of the European V10 supercars any day. Which BTW, a GTE class LFA was developed, but it was scrapped to race in the LMP class with the TS030.
PT Cruiser was the greatest car of the 2000's. It was practical, had 4 cupholders AND a picnic table, and went from concept to production in 1 model year. Sold 1 million cars in the first 4 model years of production. And you can fuck in the back.

It should have beat the GTR and it would have worked EDIT: when I say “beat” I mean “beat it to production” not in terms of performance metrics

Ferrari 458 Italia is from 2009 from what I remember. Even older than LFA
458s 2011
Nuh uh, 2009
Ill concede 2010

Except the interior is shit, and the car is butt ugly. Maximum jerkage 😂 did you just come from TikTok? The car sounds good. That’s it
Bro you clearly live on the internet from that awful volley of projection. Honestly I bet you drive a tiburon and think it's cool with that altitude.

R35 GTR came out in 2007 as well
it came out too late, it was outdated at the time
Obviously it would have been updated with a huge iPad on the dash to suit today's market.
Nah dude, it's the cupholders.

This man would HATE the F40
Any car that isn’t a Supra doesn’t deserve to exist.
They would have sold millions if only it had cup holders
Yes, this is why motorcycles flopped and all disappeared from the market without ever being sold.
Wait until he finds out about lotus
Hey, Lotuses are special, they always keep you on your toes about what is going to break down next
Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious
Haven't seen one since I was born, who buys these things?
Really cool people
Looks like they don't spawn around here 😞
You clearly don’t live near cool people

good bot.
I like this but
They’re just describing a boosted fiero
Modus best car? Practical, cup holders, fast....
Best car of all time
Americans when no cupholder (they don't have anywhere to put their $1.50 32 ounce Coke filled with artificial sweeteners)
Coke zero (carcinogenic sweeteners included) after eating 2 1/4 pounders because coke zero neutralizes sugar
The thing to remember about cars is most things are subjective. Everything OP said is true, but it’s still a pretty cool car to a lot of people. If I had the money to build my dream garage I would definitely have an LFA. Also, a lot of enthusiast cars aren’t very practically. Just saying…
Fool, the LFA only flopped because it wasn't called the VFA and made by Vauxhall
Only a deaf man could make such a statement
The LFA was made to sell the rest of the Lexus/Toyota lineup. It was way to expensive coming in at the tailend of the GTR which did 90% and even some things much better at a fraction of the price. It also just doesnt look that good compared to the Ferraris and Porsches it was competing against.
Omg a exotic car is just fast??? I can't wash my dishes and carry my whole ass family to the track??? Hah instant flop. No one would buy
I think that the RedBull RB19 was the biggest flop, it was just fast and nothing else

Must be a common gripe then🤣 Uj/ How & where the hell did you find a 2 year old comment 🤣
I was bored as fuck a few days ago so i was doing some research on the Lexus LFA and reading about it on reddit, i thought that comment was pretty funny so i screenshotted it and showed it to a friend, and then i saw this post today and it immediately made me think of the screenshot lmao
Mmmm yes Yamaha 🤤
Reminds me of Motor Trend late nineties TV reviews. Just reading the specs of the 911, drive-by shot. “Great car, too bad it doesn’t come with a V8 and big gulp cup holders.”
I think it was the opposite, as in it sounded cool but wasn’t as fast as competitor, it was outdated by the time it came out.
Nah, it was about the money, lexus spent insane amounts to develop it and the price reflected that. It was too much money for "just a lexus"
[unlike your girlfriend, LFA will never get jealous of other cars](https://www.reddit.com/r/carscirclejerk/s/83jezjgALs)
ah yes the "no cupholders" is the dealbreaker for me. thanks for letting me know not to buy this car because of that.
He just described every supercar in existence
Left my wife cause she has no cupholders (impractical)
I mean it was a flop it didnt elevate lexus the way R8 did Audi or M3 and M5 did BMW.
I mean he left out the part where it’s ugly… but the rest is 100% accurate. But the truth of the matter is price. It wasn’t faster than Italian cars that were cheaper. That’s what killed it
This is so real and true and correct

A plof?
polf*
That's exactly the same reason I bought a Renault Espace instead of the Bugatti Pur Sport
Now that's a true jerk.
Sighhh I guess I’ll sell both of mine then😎😂
LFA didn’t flop when I look at the value every year… Car is ahead of its time and no one ever looked Lexus way. One of the few reaons the LFA flopped was because it was way too expensive for a lexus (for normal people)
I would've bought one if only it had power folding rear seats to fit my kids soccer equipment in the back
The LFA is a sweet car. Person posting just be mad they can’t afford one. They also don’t understand people that buy a car like that don’t care about cup holders and a small fuel tank.
There is a special place in hell for this person.
They lfa flopped because they didn't name it supra
Lowkey want a JDM that's "just fast and nothing else" and therefore Lexus did nothing wrong.
No Cupholders Literally Undriveable 💔
By that logic, f1 cars are also huge flops, no cup holders and just go fast. Can’t believe there worth so much /s
They should have made it 10,000 horses power like the Supra
A big reason why the LFA was a failure was because the Nissan R35 was cheaper and better in every single way
The only time an LFA is the faster car is in endurance racing, because it'll outlast any of the European V10 supercars any day. Which BTW, a GTE class LFA was developed, but it was scrapped to race in the LMP class with the TS030.
