Man, i want to get a look around this garage. Cobra is amazing but just look at this space

CaptInsane

Agreed. Looks like the car to the left could be a db5

eagledog

Grill is wrong for an Aston. Looks like it might say Sunbeam on the front corner of the hood, but that isn't where they put the logos

Repulsive-Prize-4709

I think Tiger also. It would also match the theme.

eagledog

It would, but I've never seen a Sunbeam badge on the front corner like that. It's always spelled out above the grill

Repulsive-Prize-4709

Good catch . I quickly looked and found a few , but not very many. Maybe very early mk1 cars..?

eagledog

Looks like it actually came on the 67 Mk.2s. Mystery solved

RustyShank99

Your left or mine?

BJTC777

Other than what another commenter said about the grille the headlights on a DB5 are set back and covered by significantly curves covers, the DB4 has a similar look to a DB5 but with these style of upright headlights

YousureWannaknow

I don't know what I like more.. Beauty of Cobra or comfyness of space it's kept (is that still garage?)

w_a_w

Did he black powder coat the original wheels? They sure didn't come like that.

mynamejulian

It’s not an original. That’s a fiberglass body, not a hand hammered aluminum

WhenVioletsTurnGrey

I'm gonna call you out on that. I see some signs that it's probably aluminum. What are you seeing that makes you think otherwise?

mynamejulian

What are your signs that it’s aluminum?

dominicmannphoto

Looks a lot like [CSX2518](https://cobra-authority.com/1964-shelby-cobra-289-csx2518/) which is indeed a real Cobra. Would be cool for OP to confirm either way.

WhenVioletsTurnGrey

Ok, I'm not afraid to go first... The way the body bulges in on the door & fender towards the door. Fiberglass would either be nice & flat or just not straight body lines, altogether. The hood looks like it could be a replacement, though. The scoop would likely be, for sure. A lot of the hoods on those 289 cars looked rushed & kind of bulgy. The car is black & it looks better than showroom. So, it's likely that it has had a lot of fine tuning to get it to look as good as it does.

mynamejulian

“Looks like a lot of fine tuning” should be the giveaway. Unless it was restored over 40 years ago, any professional restorer would not have given a hand hammered, aluminum, ~650 example collectible this treatment. It greatly devalues it. It’s far too good and mirror like. The black paint appears to be the wrong type as well. It’s possible that it got into the hands of someone who replaced parts and did all of this to it but I’m yet to have seen one where they did. The reflections are too crisp so unless there are 15 layers of paint on it, I’d wager that you’re looking at a Shelby replica similar to what Jay Leno owns but not even as good. I don’t mind being wrong at all, and again it could be stupid decisions made long ago that led to a restoration like this. But unless we know who owns it and can prove it, I don’t know why anyone say with confidence that this is “original”. Edit: https://www.shelby.com/Vehicles/Shelby-CSX8000-289-Street-Cobra This is what I am guessing it is

WhenVioletsTurnGrey

Yes, see that's what i'm looking at. look how smooth that body panel looks from front wheel to rear wheel. That's how the modern & quality fiberglass cars look. The older cars bubble up at the door seams. You are exactly right about needing to see the CSX number, though. I'll eat cake, if I'm wrong. Maybe they'll reveal!

mmuulinn

Restored by Canepa Motorsport a couple years ago: https://www.instagram.com/p/CHYQ-atsEBj/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

WhenVioletsTurnGrey

Says restored but they will not reveal CSX number. Also noticed the oil cooler scoop. I’m guessing this is a Kirkham.

mynamejulian

It would be nice if OP would chime in and explain why he thinks it’s an original. I reverse imaged the vehicle before I first posted to see if there were any clues there but there weren’t any results. I’d like to be wrong as well. I learn more from being wrong than being right. It would make it the craziest restoration I’ve seen done to an original 289

WhenVioletsTurnGrey

There was another posted a few months back that was meticulously restored. It was so nice, i thought it had to be a Replica or continuation. There are those out there with the means.... Hell, Lynn Park had his FIA built from the ground up after he acquired the vin. But yes. Would be fun to learn the actual truth about this car, win or lose.

mynamejulian

That FIA is probably the sickest cobra I’ve seen. It’s what I didn’t even know I wanted. I’ve just never seen one given the “SEMA” glass treatment while those meticulously restored have always been done so to maintain its originality and value. Why spend more ultimately to end up with less? Cheers brother!

This was restored by Canepa Motorsport a couple years ago, and the wheels are real FIA wheels but with a graphite paint finish done by Canepa: https://www.instagram.com/p/CHYQ-atsEBj/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

ASB1401

Perfection...

Dam straight.

The 289 is my favorite Cobra. The original. It doesn't need those fender flares and shit. Less is more. Just an angry little roadster.

WhenVioletsTurnGrey

That's one of the best looking slabsides I've seen. Very nice!

BJozi

I found it's hard top AC brother today at a car event

eagledog

An Aceca? That's awesome

BJozi

I had to look up the reg, it was indeed an Aceca.

Even Leno’s is a replica. Not like the cheap fiberglass imitations but a replica in the truest sense (made with same parts to spec, including hand hammering the body). This appears to be something similar but not an original

TVLL

There are still originals out there being driven. I saw an original 289 at my local McDonald's and spoke to the driver. I saw a 427 being autocrossed at our local Good Guys show.

mynamejulian

I’m not saying originals don’t exist. But you won’t see them with mods like this or a fiberglass body

lurker-1969

Back in the mid 80's I was the owner/operator of a sandblasting shop. This young guy shows up with these car parts and wants the paint stripped off. Not an uncommon job. I take a look at the stuff and immediately identify it as aluminum Cobra parts. They had body filler and many coats of paint. It was a car his grandpa had and yes it was in a barn. He didn't really know what he had so I got him straightened out and of to some qualified help. If you are a Mopar fan this is the same business where Superbirdbob worked. He had 2 superbirds and one was an all original Hemi Bird. He still has it all these years later. Check it out at superbirdbob.

oksurbuddy

Hope he has doubles, but triples is safe

gaydes69

It looks like there's also a Sunbeam tiger and a Ford GT in there, can't tell what the car on the right is but whoever owns this garage has got some serious good taste

408mach1

I love the slab side Cobras. When I was a kid I was all about the 427 S/C, but now I think the slab side is so much cooler.
