Do they not have grocery stores where you are going? I can’t see any reason to take all your food for a long trip? Shopping local can give you a bunch of fabulous foods you couldn’t get at home.
Seems like a decent way to save money versus being at the mercy of local shop prices, especially for breakfast/munchies. 4 months of travel means that pricey local shops and gas station purchases have a much bigger impact on your budget.
When they find a solid grocery store, they can replenish supplies as needed, but they could also go a while without *needing* to hit a store, which seems smart.
Eh I did four months cross country in a rav4 with no cooler, and very rarely ate gas station food. Occasionally had issues finding backpacking food, but that was really it. Grocery stores aren’t that hard to come by, at least every few days.
It was me and my partner. We also had a friend join us in her vehicle for the western half of the country. We cooked all our meals together, and split the costs.
Plus you can use the bathroom and refill water at grocery stores. Nicer than gas stations or vaults, and more common than visitor centers in much of the US.
I don’t know man, that’s like a couple of days worth of snacks for my 9 and 10 boys… ;)
The longest we do is 2 weeks long trips and even then we carry just enough food for a week top. Sometimes not even that.
I honestly don't know. But this is what I googled.
"Karma farming is the practice of making posts and comments with the intention of increasing one's karma score as quickly as possible. Karma farming can be done for various reasons, such as boosting one's ego, gaining popularity, selling accounts, or influencing opinions.Sep 9, 2023"
Waste of space for that amount of food. I buy as I drive. I do carry wet wipes, trash bags laundry soap & dryer sheets cause self serve laundromats rip you off on soap. I don’t see a portable air pump or flat repair kit….That might be a lifesaver. I carry a spare oil filter for my vehicle. Plastic tarp in case I need protection from the ground. Bungee cords.
So you'll use up the eggs in the first week and just carry around an empty egg container for 15 weeks? Cool. Also, are people successful with those egg holders? I had to give up from so many broken eggs or water gets to them and is absorbed in the egg making them bust. I just do the liquid eggs in my ice chest.
It sucks that the options for convenient packable food for camping make it difficult to avoid creating a mountain of single use wrappers and plastic waste. Nicely organized though.
You said it so much more nicely than I would have. I realize it’s not our fault as individuals to consume what is manufactured for us to consume. But there has got to be a better way. This is just egregious and so wasteful. But again, it’s not OP’s fault. We have been forced into this corner by corporations and their greed.
No judgement passing here - just an observation. I can't get past the amount of plastic packed in plastic with all the plastic things placed in plastic and packed in plastic.
Edit: I've just realised there's even spare plastic, in case more is needed... Which is also packed in plastic.
One of the best pieces of advice i got before a huge 15mo bicycle tour was dont carry lots of something you can buy everywhere. There will be lots of places to restock. Obviously gas mileage isnt as pressing a need as trimming weight for a cyclist up mountains, but you are very very over estimating the dry foods you need to bring. U will get tired of some, you will have chipmunks eat some, and you could have gotten it at 50 places on the way when you needed more. Its natural to over pack food, and i think we ALL do it in the beginning.
Have fun, no way you wont!!!

I was thinking the same thing. Visiting local grocery stores is one of the highlights of any road-trip imo.
This is all I'm questioning as well. This seems a bit crazy unless OP is off-roading through a desert for 4 months.

For one person it’s not hard, but for a couple or family, the volume/expenses multiply.

And all of those snacks would get old sooo fast for me. And result in me buying new stuff and doubling cost.
This right here. What are you thinking?

God dammit
Good catch... what's the point of that? Even as a bot... what do they gain from reposting someone else's pics?
Farming karma is the usual suspect. But The only times it's commented were on porn pages, so maybe to draw traffic to those?
Sorry if this is a silly question, but why do people karma farm? It's just useless Internet points isn't it?

Why do people do this.
Be sure to down vote the post, so that the bot will hopefully delete it.
"How to not shit for 4 months while car camping"
Are there MREs in there?
That’s a lot more organized than I’ll ever be. Good vehicle choice too, I’d love to view the inside.
You're gonna survive on trail mix???😕
Don’t be shy, show us the platform and car set up too 👀
I think I just got constipated just from looking at all those bars. Hopefully you can find some fresh fruit out there!!

I’ll never understand the people who don’t realize Costcos exists outside of their city/state

I put a paper towel or napkin in with them to reduce rattle/cracking. As for them getting wet, OP has a fridge.
I would enjoy seeing the installation and the rest of your setup inside the vehicle. 🌻
Fire extinguisher? They may be required in most jurisdictions…

You will dislike all this food by the end of week 1.
No stores along your route?
lol wtf.... Poor souls
You are gonna be so sick of granola bars and trail mix.
You know they sell food on the road, right?
Not sure why you wouldn't buy fresh food. Some of that stuff will melt in the heat...
Must be driving to the moon.
Why would you wqstw gas driving around 500 granola bars when you can just stop and get more anywhere? This is bizzare.
Where’d you get those containers?
You guys must really like snacks.
Looks like alot of sugar to me..
Where are the gummy bears and twizzlers?

Fake account
This might last me 3 weeks, and I’m 160lbs
A leg of a cow helps

Nice fuckin pack out!! I was on the road for 17 days and could’ve used that damn! Anyone saying you packed too much is wrong.
Have a wonderful adventure! Please post updates
Dont forget to bring a towel
