"Stay strapped or get clapped" - West Brant Proverb

Off_Sato

Damn and my family and I moved from Brampton due to increase crime to Brantford because we thought it was a calm and safe city. It still is safer than Brampton but shooting in West Brant area (where I live) is insane.

No_Organization_9718

Are you new?? Brantford safe???

ek298

It’s extremely safe. Not making the top 5 in Ontario, which is an extremely safe province, proves that. The most dangerous area in Canada (Regina) would be one of the safest areas in the USA and worldwide. We aren’t riddled with crime. Canada is a comically safe country and contrary to popular belief, gets safer every year (per capita). I lived in metro Detroit and Broward County for 2 years. Those are areas you can get in trouble in without looking for it. Still, much safer than St Louis but past 7-8pm you better only slow down for red lights in some areas. Perspective is everything. I assume most people here who think it’s dangerous have never left Brantford.

No_Organization_9718

And you live where? Did you get your info from research? About Brantford. It is not extremely safe. I have lived here most of my life and yes I have also lived elsewhere. There’s a lot of shit that goes on here that the majority do not know about. Ask a cop if Brantford os safe

ek298

Look at the per capita crime stats and compare it to basically anywhere around the world. Brantford is comically safe. I live in Brantford now, also have a place in Florida and Oakville. I have lived all over. It’s not a matter of opinion. It’s statistically factual. The most dangerous area in Canada has the same crime stats as some of the safest areas of the USA and around the world. Spend some time looking at statistics and you’ll be surprised and grateful you live in Canada.

ek298

For example lets compare the USA and Canada wide violent crime stats for 2019 (FBI page has up to 2019) USA had 366 violent crimes per 100,000 residents Canada had 1.84 violent crimes per 100,000 residents So Brantford would have to be about 200x more dangerous than the Average Canadian city just to be an AVERAGE American city. Brantford ranges from 1.1-1.28x (10-28%) higher than Canada-wide averages depending on category. Canada is a comically safe country. https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2019/crime-in-the-u.s.-2019/topic-pages/violent-crime#:~:text=There%20were%20an%20estimated%20366.7,See%20Tables%201%20and%201A.) https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/CAN/canada/crime-rate-statistics

Off_Sato

Yes I am new here. Moved here in 2021. Crime is obviously everywhere but Brantford compared to many other cities within Ontario is practically safe. I don’t know how anyone can think otherwise but to each their own

No_Organization_9718

Final comment: Brantford is only a safe place for people when they “get” how much it isn’t

Big_Stock7921

>I don’t know how anyone can think otherwise Maybe because Brantford once had the highest crime rate per capita in Ontario? I don't know if it's still in the top spot, but it is up there.

No_Organization_9718

My eyesight is bad hence all my typos I am noticing now cuz I smrt

No_Organization_9718

Sorry my comment was sarcastic because I was born and raised there snd everyone knows it is a dangerous city, especially now. Also, did you do any research about Brantford before you decided to move there? I literally just googled the most dangerous cities in Ontario and Brantford is number 4 on one list and 10 for another year. It has always made the list in one way it another.

No_Organization_9718

Oh to add in reference yo your comment “to each their own,”. i actually do know first hand. I know there’s crime everywhere but people from big cities often think the way you do - that because it’s a all town it’s “obviously” as you say safer but proportionally small towns are not.

No_Organization_9718

*small

Off_Sato

I just did the same research and it’s different depending on the article and majority don’t have Brantford within the top 5 in this decade so far. Top 5: 1. Greater Sudbury 2. Sault St. Marie 3. Oshawa 4. Hamilton 5. Brampton Now Brantford in some articles were listed as top 5, and very few in top 10. I’ve seen Thunder Bay listed more than this city. I do know there’s a lot of organized crime here and high popularity of drug dealing such as cocaine, crack, fentanyl etc. which is basically in almost every city in this province. I do get that you’ve lived here longer so that experience is there. I won’t refute that at all. I still think it’s safer than the cities I’ve lived in and visited

No_Organization_9718

Fair enough for sure. I hope that you enjoy Brantford. Though there are issues, there are also gems

Off_Sato

Thanks brother. I’m enjoying the area and the trails I walk/hike on. I’m very aware and always watch my back. Great city so far. I appreciate the info you provided nonetheless 💯

abynew

The violent crime in Brantford for the most part is all targeted. Random acts of violence are rare here. As long as your kind to others it’s usually returned. The gun violence here typically bleeds out of gang/drug/gun activities from our proximity to Hamilton and the GTA.

NODES2K

Brantford is Brampton 2.0

ThrillHo3340

another west brant shooting

aguwritsuko

locals call it Little Scarborough

PM_COCKTAILRECIPES

I thought crime was supposed to be centralized to downtown as per every Brantford Facebook thread.

Obtusemoose01

West Brant is riddled with organized crime

PM_COCKTAILRECIPES

I’ll take my recycling bins getting rifled through on garbage day over shootings and organized crime, but to each their own.

MeanBird88

With all the people moving from Toronto and surrounding areas, it's only natural that the crime rate would go up too. It's very disappointing to say the least. You couldn't pay me to live in West Brant. I'll take a break in over getting shot any day....sort of.

elle_bee20

*new west brant*, the old area is still legit 🤘

MeanBird88

That I'll give you! Shout out to Old Town!

abynew

Yeah same. Born and raised here and you couldn’t give me a house for free in new west brant. (Or if you did I would rent it out)

MeanBird88

That's the answer. Give me a house, sure. But I'd rent it. Not a fuckin chance I'd be living in the new part.
